Its not that you are disliked, its that Chinese Foreign Policy at this point in history is a bit hands off. You are far away, but you have ports facing us which permit us to have our informant network there so that we can learn about others. They aren't there to spy on just you. Mostly to keep tabs on the entire continent, you are just the lucky country that gets to play host to a mass of chinese immigrants.

I don't think it's lucky, California's just the easiest port to get to from Shanghai or Tianjin.

Lucky in the form that, the immigrants come to you instead of Texas or Superior.

Once again, California's a lot easier to get to than Texas or Superior. You get to California, you're right there. To get to Texas or Superior, you have to either go overland by train, which costs money, or go around Cape Horn, which is a lot longer. Really, California's just the simplest choice.

Also, Texas has a population of a few million, but there are only 199,491 votes cast in the election? That's one hell of a voting system.

it's efficient in keeping the immigrants out of the polls, and the slaves, and the women, and the women who dress up like cowboys... if it means Frost get's a second term, he gets the second term, yay!

I'm picking up on those europeans trying to cut me out of my wealth. There were tributaries from the Philippines three times during Ming Dynasty. Pretty much every country has paid tribute to China at some point in time. Just trying to continue the tradition. I'm also trying to drum up some kind of diplomacy correspondence for China. Gonna quickly run out of political intrigue at this rate.

Sure. A few people in the Philippines gave you some money a few times, that totally means we own the South China Sea!

That'll make for excellent diplomacy. At least I'm an ocean away from it.

Not saying we own it, we are saying that they pay us tribute so we don't have to own it. Then again, it is also tradition to pay tribute to the Emperor before opening diplomatic channels, hence why countries like The Netherlands, Great Britain, and Portugal paid tribute to the Qing Dynasty in the OTL.

If I come across you, which I plan on sending a force around the cape of south africa to do so, I'll pay your dynasty in cannonballs and bullets, the traditional southern hospitality will serve you well!

Texas needs some colonies, and I hear Hainan is nice this time of year for a military invasion... also I could tour with some troops up and down the great wall ,spreading the joys of obesity, southern redneckedness, and cowboys to the little chinese children!

I have a strange feeling if you landed on Hainan Island, you'd likely find a Chinese Army nearby. Then likely what there is of a Chinese Navy outclassing whatever navy you sent across the globe, then there will be the masses of wood and sail ships following the modern navy. China has defended itself from round eyes plenty of times.
