Roses' tone was conciliatory and it was clear that she empathized with his deep desire to know more about himself. So much of the Meta-human community was unknown, not only to Meta-humans themselves but also the scientists and leaders. She found it was more common that most hero's didn't know their origin story or never came to fully understand it. Most people blundered into ancient unknowable power hidden on the verges of our reality and were forever changed by the experience. But how many of them could understand what happened to them in the first place? How much of the Meta-gene was unreadable due to sempiternal genetic coding?

"But this is the exact place for your to answer those questions," NUMB chimed in "We have some of the best facilities in the world for Meta-human research and put our members first. If you stick with us we will help you find out where you came from."

Calamity's tone and face turned less confident as NUMB spoke. Every Knight had a reason they stayed and felt like they needed to do what they did. Few of them did it because they cared about the average citizen or helping mankind. Calamity could guess at the reason NUMB stayed and had hints of the horrible reasons why the Tryptich saved the world. Her own reasons weren't noble either but she tried to think of all the good they did. Their motives may not be pure, but their actions were just. That had to count for something, Calamity hoped.

Andrew Marks

Andrew Marks had his seeing eye snake look directly at Calamity and he sulked his head when told that they still didn't know who or what he was. Which was of course troubling for the young man, but he knew the older woman empathized with him. It didn't help, however, that he was an orphan, never knowing who his parents were or what happened to them. Great. the serpentine teenager thought bittler, as even his boa constrictor looked away, Still in the dark as ever. Wish I could learn about my parents. That would definitely help.

Andrew/Rango looked at NUMB when he spoke and nodded. "Thank you." he spoke with a small smile, "Sssso when am I gonna get sssstarted on my work? You sssaid sssomething about acting as a mole for you guys against the Mayor causse you think he's a... What did you say? An Annunaki?"

Alice had, at one point, been fairly good at monetising her powers and had a more-than-healthy nest egg to fall back on. More than anyone profiling on current earnings would suspect.

"I need to talk." She said without explaining who she was, "Want to pick somewhere deserted where you can appear wearing a mask?"

She hadn't put any serious effort into figuring out who Octavian was. Alice assumed that, sooner or later, he would decide he trusted her and then she would know. Until then, she could wait.

Octavian took a few seconds, but he realized who was talking soon after hearing. Well, he thought, took her long enough.

"Let's see.." He started thinking of places they could meet. There was the sewer, although that probably wouldn't be the best place for a chat. Alleys had some possible problems, same with rooftops. "How about the docks?" He asked.

That entire area was usually vacant, especially the warehouse side. The only time he'd ever seen people there they were workers. "Warehouses over there?" He suggested. He didn't trust Alice yet, although she didn't look like a tattletale to him. But people could change in an instant given the chance.

"Down by the docks it is. I should be fairly easy to spot as I will be the only one who isn't a stevedore or a salty sea dog." Alice replied, "Although I must admit there aren't too many of that second group. Life just isn't as colourful as it is in novels. I'll take the subway. See you soon."

Alice drove, but her car would probably stand out a bit and she didn't particularly want to have to explain to the insurance company just why she had parked it in the docklands. Just under a hour later she arrived at the meeting place, walked out into the open and stood there where she was easily visible. This time she hadn't come in uniform, instead she had pulled on a pair of jeans and a thick tan duffle coat. She was, potentially, the kind of person who would attract muggers, although she exuded a confidence that would give most criminals pause (especially as she was acting a little suspiciously as well).

Octavian hung up and began dressing himself. He put on a black t-shirt and a pair of jeans. He put all of his equipment into a duffel and walked to the door. He was going to take a taxi about halfway there, then he'd find a place to change outfits. Probably an alley.

The ride there took a bit of time, Octavian was relatively quiet. He'd been staring out of the window the entire time. He noticed how run down some of the buildings were on this side of New York, some looked pretty sketchy. The cab stopped, and as Octavian stepped it he paid the driver. He looked around, not seeing anywhere he could change. Sighing, he started walking. Maybe the warehouses would be empty, or at least somewhere around them would.

He arrived by the docks, walking by some sketchy workers and some people. He turned into an alley between two buildings, changing once he was sure nobody was around. He around for a little bit, sticking to the shadows as he went. It took him a little while to find Alice, although it wasn't spotting her that was difficult.

He walked to the edge of the building, giving a sharp whistle in her direction.

Alice registered the whistle, looking up at Octavian although she didn't immediately acknowledge that she had noted he was there. Instead she glanced around, making sure she was alone. When she was satisfied she rose from the ground in a rush, slowing as she approached Octavian before setting down gently in front of him, "Its good to see you again Loxley." she said. Her expression was dead-pan. Anyone not listening closely might have missed her joke... "You know I promised not to use my powers after the mess I made of things as the Watcher?" she continued, though she continued too quickly for Octavian to have a chance to respond. Presumably it had been a rhetorical question, "But I did when I was with you and I enjoyed it and I think I made a difference. I think maybe if I keep my identity hidden this time..."

She paused, looking suddenly abashed, "Sorry... am I being boring?" she asked, "I don't really know you, but there isn't anyone else who knows what I can do."

Octavian folded his arms, leaning against the wall as she talked. He wasn't very popular, and certainly didn't have too many friends who needed his advice or help, so this was kind of a first for him. He opened his mouth to speak when she asked the rhetorical question, but stopped once he realized what it was, for that reason and the fact that he was cut off.

Octavian shook his head when she thought she was being boring, "No, not boring at all." He glanced across the street where nothing in particular was happening, "So you're thinking about being a hero again?" He asked.

New York City
NYC City Hall
The Mayor's Office
The Scarlet Baroness

Antonia immediately ended the charade when the mayor saw through it, instead showing her fangs and hissing angrily at him. She could tell that she didn't like him rightaway. He was one of the kind you should be very suspicious off in all situations unless you held all the cards. Besides, apart from his eyes which were revealing his actual person, he just looked so ordinary. Like any random old man she could meet in a park. He reminded her off Haegler, back in 1942 in Prague. Haegler's eyes had been quite similar back then. When she met Haegler in the asylum, she had noticed that his eyes were completely lifeless, only his overall facial expression giving a hint on his emotions. And Haegler had captured her back in 1938. She would never forget. And she had always prepared to evade capture another time. If this man was planning something then he should better be damn sure it worked out else she would make sure he'd lick her boots in less than a week.

"Chhhhhhhhhh, shut your mouth! Children nowadays simply don't have manners anymore. Parents have become weak due to all the pleasantries they're provided with in their lives."

She didn't sit down. Too much did she fear the chair to be a trap. Atleast she got a chance to look at the door opener without raising suspicion. She had already smelled him and felt the presence of something living in that corner. Hell, this man would have sent shivers down the spine of many but not her. In life she had dealt with worse. She only asked herself why he had his eye sewn shut. But the mayor took priority. He was much more dangerous.

"Oh nonono, you are the one luring me here, I want an explanation first. Let's start with something basic. I didn't tell you my name. Where did you get it?"

Europe
Iceland
Snaefellsjoekull National Park
SS Abteilung für Paranormales

"Sir, sensors have picked up the signatures of an unknown spacecraft near our orbit! Recommended course of action?"

, the officer who had run all the way to give this highly important message to Untersturmführer Maier panted. Although he was a little tired by the running, he looked like he was eager and capable of running all the way back again. Maier, on the other hand took his time, watching how the submarine named U-4871Tiefenschlag left the subterranean base and quickly sunk into the sea, hiding itself from his view. It's destination? The port of Lüderitz in Namibia.

Now the sudden disappearance of an UFO surprised Maier. He hadn't expected all early warning systems to fail so miserably and let something get this close. But atleast this UFO could be a masssive opportunity. But also a massive danger. One never knew who was aboard these and how easy they were to handle. The SS had brought down several already but had always managed to overpower the eventual resistance. A few of the downed UFOs had also fallen into the hands of governments around the world, a development that the SS hadn't been too happy about. But what was done couldn't be reverted. Now there was again such an UFO and he had the chance to down it. He would have to anyways if he didn't want to risk the detection of the sprawling moon base. Or as a preventative strike against the aliens. Who knew, maybe they were reading a weapon in this very moment?

"Activate OX-5 and take it down. I want the other SS bases notified of this and constant scans of the UFO to be transferred directly to me as well as other base commanders. All combat units are to be readied for eventual immediate action. Now go!"

When the officer ran away, Maier stared up into the sky as if he could see the UFO with his bare eyes. Behind him, 2 large metal panels with naturl environment all over them slid to the side, revealing a deep hole. A humming noise came out of it. The Tractor Beam was working. Let's hope it successfully brings the UFO down.

Mayors Office
“We have an impressive surveillance system that is not restricted by state border, the walls of homes of the barriers of the human mind,” he said. He put a strong emphasis on the word “we” making it clear he was not a mere lone agent. “There are no secrets that can remain hidden from us if we put our attention to uncovering them.”

He picks up a pair of glasses as he looks at a piece of paper in front of him. “Like how you and your group of brown shirts are interested in purchasing South Brother Island. A tactical move, relocating some of your more dangerous elements away from the docks or the well patrolled Staten Island I imagine? Or are you bringing in new soldiers from abroad?”

The man in the corner didn’t say a word and focused himself intently on the young vampire his one good eye staying vigilant.

“I guess your plan was to come in here and use your mesmerization powers to control some weak-willed bureaucrats into giving you the deed? What were your plans when the wildlife commission's found out? Or when the zoning board figured out their was unregistered construction? We have set up this and all other bureaucratic systems specifically to reveal irregular behavior. But we are willing to give you the island in exchange for certain favors.”

Space and then Mill Neck

OX-5 was a remarkable piece of technology and while it did it’s job it received quite the hardship in return. As waves of gravity and magnetic energy were used to rearrange the pull of earth on the UFO it retaliated with a trio of powerful weapons. The SS’s space radars detected the singular shape break into five distinct pieces. The largest of the pieces began quickly rising away from earth like a balloon moving closer to the moon and making a path to become stuck in it’s orbit. Three small pieces of the ship began rocketing towards the Iceland base and the source of the tractor beam. While a final medium sized piece started falling downward towards earth with a projected crash landing somewhere in the northeastern United States.

The three projectiles shifted mid-flight as they absorbed data from their surroundings and adapted. What finally impacted was a trio of missile-like weapons, each took the form of a black liquid spear moving several dozen times the speed of sound and ignoring atmospheric breakup. Where they fell they released blinding waves of light and solar radiation enough to fry delicate sensors, radars and exposed electronics while also poisoning most kinds of biological material.

The medium sized object landed hard on long island New York only a few minutes later. It crashed in the quiet suburb of Mill Neck just outside of the Oyster Bay area. The impact produced a minor earthquake throughout the region, released a cloud of radioactive dust the equivalent of a kiloton nuclear device and send large chunks of earth and street flying. Forty people died instantly and another eighty were critically injured.

Finally, blob of black metallic looking liquid began to bubble and steam in the glowing crater it had created.

Knights Fortress

Calamity opened her mouth to speak to Andrew when a crackle of static interrupted her. She put a hand to here ear, and a look of fear came over her face. “There’s been a situation. We need to go. Now. Andrew grab NUMB.” She reached out placing a hand on his canister.

At the time I believed I was doing the right thing, I wasn't acting like a criminal, skulking in the shadows. I was wrong though. The only way to know you are actually doing this for others rather than yourself is if you don't get anything from being a hero."

There was another long pause before she asked, "Do you think I should go back?" it seemed Alice wasn't completely immune to self-doubt.

Octavian scratched at the back of his head. "Well, it's your choice.." He began, thinking of what else to say. "I mean, you're a cop, right? So what's the difference? You know, aside from the whole non-vigilante thing.." He winced, a thought coming to his head. What if it happened again? The losing control thing that happened to her. She seemed to have enough self control, but being a vigilante had its difficulties. "I'd say go for it. And.."

He reached up to take his mask off, but paused halfway through. No, he'd need to keep that surprise for later. He put has hands back down at his side. "Nevermind.." He muttered, a smirk crossing his face.

As both Johanna and Carly had been waiting, they both received a call.
After a few minutes of reporting, Carly stood up, making Johanna raise an eyebrow.

"Hm?" She inquired, raising her head a little bit.

"As the report goes, we have a UFO on our hands. Now crashed, but they want us to investigate.
You're the only one that can go, I'll keep in touch with you.
It fell around Long Island, when I get more details I'll keep you up to speed. Get going." And so, Johanna did, but as she was about to head out the door, Carly grabbed the Knight's arm.

"Yes?" The latter responded. "What is it? Anything else? You know a knight must never be late." To that, Carly chuckled lightly and shoved a small device in her hand.

"It's... Some kind of a shield that covers your body against anything that would stick to you. Poison, radiation and the like. Made by Heamet, it'll protect you for a whole day against those things.
It's one of the last ones we have, so take good care of it. I don't want you dying because of some unknown particle. Since we don't have enough intel, I want you to be prepared." Gulping a bit, Carly let her go and smiled gently. "Be safe out there Jo. And come back soon."

The knight smiled in return and took up her sword while tucking the device under her clothes, then waved before exiting the door and taking a motorbike to the scene.

Simply walking from one end to the other of NYC would take too long.
She needed to be there, and fast.

"A lot of heroes do as much damage as they prevent. Police are bound by rules designed to keep them from turning the country into an oppressive Fascist state. Super-powered vigilantes need to remember that there are reasons that the regular police do not also act as judge, jury and executioner." Alice replied quickly. It sounded like this was something she had spent a lot of time wrestling with.

"I'll need a new uniform" she continued, "It can't look too much like the old Watcher one. And it will need a mask. Preferably a bit of body armour. I suspect I've got a bit of work ahead of me with that one. Any thoughts as to colours?"

Octavian was slightly startled when she actually hugged him, and was relieved when she stepped back. "Yeah, I've got someone. He actually made my own costume," Octavian said, gesturing down to his own outfit. "Pretty sure I can convince him to make you something. As for color.." He sighed, fixing her with an appraising look, checking her out up and down as either a pervert or a fashion designer would. "I'd go with.. Blue and grey. You've got telekinesis, right? Nothing says 'mind powers' better than those."

He chuckled, stealing another peek at the road. He was paranoid when it came to places like this, too cramped for his taste, in the alley at least. "So, what's your name gonna be? Can't go telling them 'I need a costume for Watcher, only make it completely different from her old one'."

Something caught the attention of Andrew's seeing eye snake. Andrew/Rango glanced behind Calamity to see something in the sky, falling and disappearing in the horizon. The reptilian Australian then blinked upon hearing a boom sound and the static and his boss's voice. "O-of course, Bossss." spoke Andrew, as Rango glanced at NUMB while taking him from Calamity, "W-what'sss going on. Doesss thisss got to do with that... thing that fell from the sky moments ago?"

The heavy steel foot came down hard on the discarded cigarette butt, grinding it into the pavement. The bionic man looked off into the city, gazing out over the place he called home. He'd been here for nearly three years, and had a bit of a reputation in less than savory circles, and with it, a good amount of employment opportunities. He was supposed to meet a contact later today, who'd give him a contract and the first half of his payment.

Down on the street, a man was selling magazines at a stand, a friendly smile on his young face. The bionic hitman asked for the 'latest edition', which the stand owner wordlessly handed him. Inside was a white card with a name, address, and a few other details for the mission. He sat at a bench, reading over the details before setting the card alight with his cigarette lighter. He left the magazine on the bench, and started off. He was on the clock, and someone in New York would be dead by the end of the day.

He chuckled, stealing another peek at the road. He was paranoid when it came to places like this, too cramped for his taste, in the alley at least. "So, what's your name gonna be? Can't go telling them 'I need a costume for Watcher, only make it completely different from her old one'."

"Excellent idea!" Alice grinned, "I knew I asked you for a reason - my mind keeps getting stuck on black, although I think that is something to do with Johnny Cash. I'm thinking Navy blue with a grey cape and some kind of helmet that looks a bit like a sallet. Then I can still talk easily but it should make it more-or-less impossible to identify me. Facial recognition software focuses on the eyes and nose."

"Names...." there was a pause, then a slightly awkward shrug, "I don't know, I'm sure whatever I come up with will be sort-of lame. Shall we see what the media comes up with? As for your tailor, well... just call me 'a friend'. Unless you can think of something better?"

"Then, when we're done with that, maybe I should make use of my police radio and we can find somewhere where we can save some lives." she suggested, "I'm not imagining your tailor will be super-quick but I can get around with a hoodie and balaclava until they're done."

Calamity nodded and there was a flash of light as the trio was whisked away to the crash site. The sensation was a deeply disturbing one. The body was first made ghostly and insubstantial before being launched at incredible speeds towards Long Island. It lasted less than a second but it brought with it an immense sense of vertigo and pain.

When color returned to the world they were standing on a suburban street amid a clamor of confused sounds and obvious destruction. Several houses were crushed underneath massive piles of dirt and concrete. The forest that surrounded this quaint community looked like it had exploded and trees impaled houses and cars at impossible angles. Sinister black smoke drifted up from the end of the street where a massive crater appeared to smolder.

The sound of screaming, cries for help and blaring car alarms filled the air as Calamity spoke. “I’m going to investigate that,” she said pointing to the crater. “Take NUMB, try and find him a corpse to inhabit. But look for people in trouble so he can teleport them to a hospital.”

Calamity then took off half hovering and half running towards the hissing crater where the UFO had landed.

Octavian nodded, taking out his cellphone, which was his personal one again. He tapped through a few screens, finally making it to his speed-dial list. He scrolled down, then selected one of the numbers, bringing the phone to his ear. After ringing for several moments, the person on the other side spoke up.

"Hello?" Asked a female voice.

"Hey! If it isn't my favorite sister! How've you been?" He said in a chipper tone.

"What happened this time?"

"Does something need to happen for me to want to talk to you?"

"Every time you've called me in the past year was to ask for something," she replied, then cut him off before he could speak up, "Christmas was the only exception."

"Fine, you caught me. I need a costume for a friend of mine, think you could do that?"

"Of course I can. What were they thinking? One of those anime things? Fursuit?" She mocked.

"Kaitl- No no, you know what I mean. Navy blue outfit with a grey cape, and a helmet that looks like one of those knight helmets, sallet? Yeah, one of those. Light body armor, too." He finished.

The voice on the other end took a couple seconds, then went over everything. "Right," Octavian said, "Sooner the better, just don't get sloppy. Love you, I'll be sure to send you something for your trouble!" He said, the girl hung up. Octavian put his phone away, then turned back to Alice. "So, anything you wanna do right away?"

"I'll send something for her trouble... I'm not as broke as I look." Alice said, her, almost perpetual, slightly amused smile returning, before she asked, "Do you have a police radio by any chance?"

"It might be a good way to figure out if there is anything going on where we could, potentially be helpful. I have one, which I'm guessing isn't a surprise, but I'd need to go back to my flat and that would mean a taxi and would take a little while. I'll need to go back there to get changed anyway, but at least you can get a head start if you have a radio."

Octavian started patting around his belt, looking for a police radio, or one on its frequency at least. He knew he had one, not exactly one that was stolen, just your average walkie-talkie. He turned it on, sure enough it was on the right frequency. Immediately, there was chatter speaking about something that crashed. Followed were several phrases, mostly using police code, that would probably be easy for Alice to decipher.

"Sounds like something's happening.. I'll head over there, think you can get there quickly?" He turned to Alice, a slightly grave look on his face. He hadn't expected anything serious to actually take place that night, and something that sounded pretty serious. Octavian put on his mask, bid Alice farewell, then with a two fingered salute, took off running down the road.

It took him a few minutes to find a rooftop he could climb up to, and even longer to make it across to the main part of the city. He leapt across one of the roofs, still listening in on the situation. His mask guided him most of the way, having set the frequency's location, he was able to get to the estimated location of them.

He arrived above the scene, sticking to the lower part of the roof. He peered over, staring down at the crater. Then he saw the Knights, one of them moving over to investigate. He fumbled for his phone, dialing Alice's number. She'd need to be alerted about the situation.

Then Johanna arrived.

And immediately, an exclamation came out of her mouth.

"Bor-del, c'est pire que mes vingt cinq ans dans la forêt. Il s'est passé quoi, une météorite?"

As she progressively got closer, she prepared her hands, just in case.
Anything could go wrong, so might as well get the fists ready to go if needed. If things got too ugly, she could always get around making weapons, as always.

But then she saw several people, civilians mostly, but also some that were standing, obviously not harmed.
She recognized them, somewhat, they were the Knights of America. All but in name to her, but that didn't matter, after all, they were americans.
The only americans she'd tolerate would be Carly and Heamet, Gwyn also, on most occasions.
But she needed to meet with them, after all, they weren't enemies, and they probably didn't know of her status here.
Hell, there was a high likeliness that they wouldn't even know of her.

"Do you know what happened here? I'm afraid I'm kind of at a loss."

The new arrivals caused Calamity to pause as the rest of her team left to deal with the civilians. She turned first to regard Johanna pleased that at least however she was she wasn’t being standoffish. Her heads up display noted that their was another figure higher up on one of the buildings but she didn’t have time to pay him any attention just know.

Calamity motioned with her head for Johanna to follow her as she continued to the lip of the crater. “Gallahad right? I’ve seen your picture floating around,” she said. She sounded relieved to have someone with her. The pair of them looked into the crater and could see what looked like a blob of tarish black liquid bubbling and hissing in a hole nearly a quarter mile across. “My contacts tell me NASA picked this thing up on radar. Was suppose to pass by, but it fell here for some reason.”

She lifted up a hand and their was very slight ticking. “It’s putting out a very small amount of radiation. This is a hazard suit so I should be fine, but unless that armor is something special I would stay about ten feet away from the big blob there.” She paused and turned to give Johanna a very closer look. “What is it that you can do exactly?”

Johanna followed gladly, after all, even if they were not proper Knights, they had manners.
And manners meant everything in a first contact.

"Gallahad, yep. I do what my family's been doing for centuries, I create weapons out of the elements. Except I've got one irregularity, I can also create shields and 'arenas' to contain things if needed.
But given what that looks like... Frankly, I don't know if I'll be able to contain it." She briefly looked over the dark blob.

"As for radiation, you shouldn't worry too much. I've got gadgets from some friends that will allow me to be alright, as long as I don't try anything stupid, such as trying to touch it, or something of the sort." She answered, rather pleased with the fact that someone would show her the way instead of shoving her off.

"I take it that we only know that it crashed here, right? No other information? Given what it looks like, I'd say a UFO or a meteor crashed. But from what I remember from what school told me, an object that size, unless slowed down, would probably create a much bigger crater, wouldn't it?"

Andrew Marks

Andrew blinked when the white light engulfed Rango's vision and thus his own. Feeling an ethereal sense throughout his body before being launched at great speed the serpentine man cried out in a great pain that lasted for a mere moment with vertigo. "Ugh..." groaned Andrew in dizziness, upon returning to reality as he clutched NUMB tightly, "What on earth wasss that?"

Andrew/Rango looked around to see total chaos, panic, and destruction throughout the area. The place looked like as if a great and terrible storm wrecked havoc throughout the land in an instant before vanishing as soon as it came. Oh god! thought Andrew, Could this be where that thing fell?

Andrew/Rango looked up at Calamity and nodded at her command. He gulped a little at the request to find a corpse, but was nonetheless determined to help people. "I'll be right on it." he he shouted over the loud screams of the panic.

The Australian parted away from Calamity, running to the first corpse he could find, clutching NUMB tightly. "You can teleport while possesing the dead, can you?" he asked as he placed the canister down next to the dead woman in the middle of the road next to a car, no doubt a victim of a car accident.

It took a laughable amount of effort, but she'd done it. The thing many others could not (or in the majority of cases, would not) do. Underworld.net was offline. The secret network of super-villains, criminals, and general bad guys had been taken down by a lone teenage girl, and according to her, it was the least they deserved. Not just for what they did to everyone else, but what they did to her family. She closed down her computer with a satisfied look, unknowing of the target she had painted on herself.

Within the next two hours, the attacker had been found. Such a crime against crime was unacceptable and intolerable. This aggressor was marked for death, and a bounty of $2 million placed on their head. The contract was soon accepted by the assassin known as "Iroquois".

He'd stopped across the street from the apartment building, watching the building. Was the mark stupid enough to stick around? They managed to take down the Underworld, surely they'd see this coming a mile away. He shrugged, putting off the idea for the moment. He'd check out the apartment and see for himself.

Jennifer saw the strange man first, through the CCTV camera of the front door. He was dressed pretty nice, there was no way he lived here. And the way he seemed to linger just outside of the cameras range was odd too. Somehow it never crossed her mind that he might be there to kill her.
