It's all just unnecessary hairsplitting.

Leaving you with 5 motors. The whole theme of the RP is a medieval society living after an apocalyptic event. Centuries after said event in fact. Anything modern will give you a stupidly large edge on literatly everyone in the world right now.

What is it with you and trying to gain technology? Why do you need modern technology? It throws the whole theme of this RP out of whack, when it seems that you one goal is to get old world tech without the centuries of progression that it would take every one else to gain it.

Think about it. People know about this stuff or at least some do. It doesn't make sense that they would just be content with swords when they can have guns.

Look, it's been fricking 600 years, any knowledge of the old world tech is literally being worshiped as a deity. The old world has been warped and twisted through generation and generation of oral history, this stuff would literally be magic to our peoples. That and the fact that the OP has shot down you idea already.

Nope, just barely floating. Think of the USS Monitor, it looks like it's gonna sink.
Unless it's an Ironclad, it is going to sink. Due to some fucked up liquid physics which I can't be arsed to explain in detail, a wooden attempt at a USS Monitor will result in it sinking rather quickly. In layman's terms the Wooden boat is too buoyant, while an Iron one is more solid in it's state (literally).
Also sails will not be able to generate enough power to displace enough water for it to move.

Then what to do. Rudders?

Engines, steam or gasoline?
Either would work, but from what I talked about with Idaho, the Jury's still out on steam power, and petrol power is right out.
Even with steam power, the coal and metal used for the boilers would need to some from somewhere.
