It goes fast enough (38 km/h). Also, vast industries in Orbis's cities make it rather easy to make en masse. How are they pointless exactly? (From a military standpoint. I'd like to know.)

The distinction between tank classes disappeared due to the developments that existed.

Light tanks and heavy tanks stopped existing. And Medium tanks continued on to become what are now known as MBT's (a class of their own.)

Heavy Tanks lacked the mobility (and in many cases reliability) to keep pace with other mechanized troops, and additionally were more expensive to mass produce than Medium tanks. You're taking a tank that was designed in the later years of the war in a time frame that is set in the earlier years.

As one can see from the battle of France. The German Panzer II's and Panzer III's were vastly inferior to the French tanks in all manners, except one. Mobility. The Germans were able to out produce French tank forces rapidly and easily encircle and over take them.

Using the German Tiger tank as an example (primary template for most Heavy Tanks) it was used as a Defensive Strong point rather than an offensive tool.

One of the key things you've gotta look at is the effectiveness of various units.

For the cost of a Platoon (4) of IS tanks. One could easily buy a company of Medium tanks (PzIV/T34/M4) (16)

When you look at general production cost, it's going to be far easier to mount a higher velocity gun in the medium tanks to defeat the IS's armor, than it is for you to build more IS tanks to counter act the larger number of enemy mediums.

There's a reason why the Panzer IV, Sherman and T-34 were the most influential and widely produced tanks of the war.

When you're looking at mobility, speed isn't so much of the problem as weight distribution across the tracks is (prevent sinking into soft ground). Heavy tanks sink into soft ground, only exception being the Tiger tank which had unusually broad track for a tank of it's mass.

In war, You're either shooting, moving or communicating. Same concept applies to a tank. If your heavy tanks are too slow to avoid Artillery or even infantry based anti-tank fire, then you're in for a significant problem.

Infantry portable shaped charges are already dangerous enough. But will become even more powerful when enhanced with magic mojo juice.

All good points. The armor issue shouldn't be big for awhile in the RP (Assuming 120 mm of sloped armor is more than enough to deal with most AT guns. I know for fact that even the long 88 mm on the Tiger 2 can't get through an equivalent of ~240 mm RHA. I might be using world of tanks logic here).

I might be ignoring issues such as armor spalling.

Might as well make more J-5 mediums then (T-34s).

Believe it or not, the 7.5cm on the German Panther tanks actually had superior penetration to the 8.8cm on the Tiger series tanks.
At 1600 meters the 8.8 cm could reliably punch through 160mm of armor. The 7.5cm had 170mm of penetration at the same range. But the 7.5 was a FAR faster round and traveled on almost a flat trajectory.

So yes, you may be fine from the front at longer ranges. Especially from AT guns. Which honestly should be the last of your worries. But odds are, they're going to get much closer than 1600 meters before engaging you.

I'd also like to add that German tank ace Michael Whittman killed nearly a dozen IS tanks with his Tiger.
Not so much about the tools as it is the operator.

You're actually incorrect on the Tiger II penetration. I was looking at the Gun mounted on the Tiger 1, not the Tiger 2.

Tiger II's gun had 234mm of penetration at 1600 meters. you get the picture.

You should honestly see Japanese super heavy tank designs. Really boxy and large caliber guns.
