I honestly think that the Johnson Rifle had huge potential , but the teething issues made it lose long term to the Grand which was already a phenomenal rifle.

Garand went to weapon trials in 36', and was adopted, Johnson Rifle showed up in 41' to try and beat it.

Main reason Johnson wasn't looked at more was because of the start of the war.

the point wasn't to prove specific ranges, point was to prove that it could be done with conventional shells meaning the rounds did not have to be magically enhanced.

Mhm. It actually didn't have many disadvantages. It was just so close to the M1 Garand that the Army didn't see the point in trying to mass produce a second rifle.


The Marine Corps however, fucking loved them.
