Light Vs. Dark: Wonderful Wizards and Malevolent Mages

My first RP died before it got a chance to get started sp basically I'm changing the premise and fixing it up a little which is why it's basically the same OP.

This is based HEAVILY on mythology, Harry Potter and basically any magic myth you can think of. My family list is a work in progress, if you wanna app one than go ahead.



In the world, there are places like the United States, Canada, Egypt and all such other familiar places. It seems like the typical, humans, animals, just things like that. But there also exists a force which most in the world have heard of, but think it's fake or just a legend.
Magic, that mystic invisible force that is so irreversibly tied in with the supernatural, that force that most humans don't believe exists except in their little card tricks.

However, magic is very much assuredly a real thing. And they have creatures and humans, yes humans, that possess it.They usually call themselves wizards, witches, sorcerers, mages, it's all the same although some prefer one term better than the others. Magic once flowed freely all throughout the world and magic and non magical people lived together in harmony. But then the non magical humans started to fear their magic neighbors, and the otherworldly creatures that lived alongside them. They turned on them, things like the Salem trials happened, the stonings, the burnings, the shootings. It had driven the magical community underground, and with them disappeared even the knowledge of magic from the minds of ordinary humans.

But magic still survives, although it is normally hidden from the paranoid inbred fear of ordinary humans. There are still magical people being born every day all around the world. Some are even born to non magical parents families, these are called the Synith-born, Synith being the word for non magic people in Greek. These magical people are something of an enigma, neither fully accepted as "true" witches and wizards or cast out as monsters by their ordinary families. This isn't always the case but it is an overwhelming majority, just like normal children they need some place to go.

The Lethifold Wars were fought two hundred years ago, a light versus dark battle that raged throughout history. Of course the light prevailed, and the dark was battered by their losses.

Mrs. Maria Maverty, and her husband Jace Maverty came up with a solution. To preserve the future of their world as well as protect the children that are born like them, they converted a castle into a school where young witches and wizards could be trainee and be good upstanding citizens of the magical community, Maverty's School of Magic.


However, not all thought this was a wonderful idea. The magical families that supported the Dark, the ones that didn't turn, felt some type of way about being ostracized and forced to give up their way of life. Now these mages are the baddest of the bad, the ones that children are told about to scare them, their knowledge of dark magic and crimes committed against Synith and mage alike sent shock waves throughout the entire magic community. They decided to build a school of their own, a school that churned out more dark wizards and wicked witches than most have even seen before. This school, a grand imposing castle settled in the mountains of Germany, founded by Nerissa and Loran Vallor, the Vallor Academy of the Dark Arts. This is where the evil mage in training goes to learn his or her craft...this place is kept out of sight by powerful enchantments but that doesn't mean it's invisible. Each school has been heard off, the Maverty kids are often threatened to be sent there if they're naughty.

Now there is no fixed rule, not all who attend Maverty's are good just like not all who attend the Academy are evil. Some students are forced by their parents to go to these places and their true alignment doesn't match their studies. Some are figuring themselves out, some are simply neutral and are just going here to learn magic. These two schools have been at war for centuries, and soon enough a greater enemy will come and threaten them all. Which path will you choose? Will you be a good mage like Merlin, will you choose the path of evil, will you simply be neutral or are you trying to convince somebody to turn around?


Families
These are some of the most powerful magical families throughout the magical world, whether Dark, Light or Neutral, not all of them walk their family path. Many get disowned because of this and their customs are vastly different, what is certain is the amount of influence and power they all hold is massive. You can app a family, I'm just making a few myself.
Vallor Family- The Vallor family is one of the most well known and the most powerful dark magical family in Germany. They're the ones who founded the Academy and their history is so steeped in the dark arts that the name has become synonymous with it. Hesperus Vallor, the founder of this ancient House was the legendary foe of Merlin, and one of the most evil wizards that ever existed. He, along with some members of the other families nearly plunged the world into a thousand years of night. They are wealthy and feared, and it's said that Vallor children are "born bad" but that's not the case. With their last name being such a stigma, people born of this House feel that they have no other choice most of the time.

This house had produced good wizards, such as the founder of Giles' Hospital, Giles Vallor. Or Theresa Vallor, who discovered a cure for the red plague but they are so lost in the shadow.of their ancestors that people hardly remember them. They control the power behind the throne aspect and dark artifact aspect of the most dark operations, having forged many artifacts and wands for the dark side during the Lethifold wars and having served as foot soldiers. Bravery is their motto, and cowardice is seen as a great disgrace resulting in being cut off from the family. Their colors are blue and silver, and their coat of arms is a centaur dressed in armor wielding a wand in one hand and a sword in the other.



Letifer Family-Founded in Italy in 987 and migrated all over the world when Draco Letifer married Esther Aldermann and went to Germany, founding the German branch of the house. That branch is currently the main branch, although they've never left their Tuscan roots. Most famous for their successful sack of Naples during the 1400s, they briefly ruled before being ousted and the leaders executed, but that hasn't slowed them down any. Called the "dealers of death", this dark family has often carried out the bloodier operations of the Dark Lords of the past, even producing quite a few infamous dark leaders themselves. Boeis Letifer was Dark Lord during the Lethifold wars, and he's currently the most infamous Dark Lord in history. Their official slogan is "dead men tell no tales".

Second only to the Vallors, the Letifers have been open dark wizards for generations. Letifer is Latin for "deadly" or "lethal", and they certainly live up to their surname. While not the most powerful family they are the wealthiest, among dark wizards the Letifers have the most gold in their coffers and know how to use it. A secretive family, they work in the shadows and they dabble heavily in the arcane and mysterious. They hoard knowledge like dragons hoard treasure, they have to have the biggest library of forbidden texts and spells this side of west Europe. They are great at maneuvering themselves into positions of power, either by assassination, intimidation or bribery. They've had high profile government positions all throughout their existence, a Letifer has always had a chair in the Parliament despite numerous attempts to remove them.
Their colors are red and green, their coat of arms is a black widow spider crawling up a dagger that is inscribed with the Latin phrase Ubi ego sum, letale invisibilium. (I am deadliest when I am unseen)


Aberdeer Family- Originating in Scotland, the Aberdeer are much more covert with their a lighten than their openly dark fellows. They prefer to attract their flies with honey rather than vinegar.




Maverty Family- An Anglo-Irish Wizarding family, this is one of the most well known families among the Wizarding circles. A member of the Sacred Circle and the Order of the Wands, they are the most powerful and influential through Europe.

If you are immortal, you HAVE to have a weakness. You can be functionally immortal but you HAVE to be able to die! That includes spells used for immortality, must have a weakness or a price.
Dark magic always has a price, a cost. That cost is usually more terrible the darker the spell, which is why it's illegal (people still do it though)

Personality: Arrogant, cold and sarcastic, Nex is always ready with a withering insult and highly sure of her own superiority and that of her family. She'll torture out of boredom and won't hesitate to hurt somebody. Intelligent, power hungry, sneaky and ruthless and doesn't care much for the lives of others, she's sadistic bordering on psychopathy and she has a horrid temper. She'll kill you if you piss her off, literally. However despite this, she has one redeeming quality. Loyalty, to her family or to somebody that she may grow to genuinely care for (yes, she is capable of love but sometimes uses it to her advantage).

Bio: Nex Selene is the third of four children of Maxus Letifer and Darissa Letifer (née Vallor). Her uncle Grigory is Headmaster of the Vallor Academy, her father is a Lord of Parliament and her mother has a job with the Senate. She was raised according to Dark wizard ideology, and was considered a prodigy even from a young age. Unlike her older sister who hid it for a while but didn't like her family's morals, Nex relished in it. By the time she was ten, she was already showing signs of becoming a right little dark witch. She hexed a boy when she was five, pushed a girl down a hill for stealing her doll at seven and at eight poured a poison into her cousin's hair dye. They were ill for months. She worked hard on her spellcraft and excelled, most little girls dream of marriage or being a supermodel. Nex dreamed of becoming the next Dark Lady, she thought she could do a way better job than her ancestor did.

The self proclaimed Mistress of All Evil, she started school at age ten like all students. Before that, her older sister who didn't agree tried to stop her, stop her parents but of course she couldn't. Her sister ran away a year later and married a Synith years later, still planning on how to stop the dark legacy of her family. Nex felt no need to change and seemed to thrive within the academy, especially when it came to social life. She knows how to use people as puppets and dangle them from a string, especially boys. By the time she was thirteen she had a literal underground of people she got things from, whether it was homework notes, money, sex, whatever she wanted. She studies hard though, hoping to achieve her goal. Outside she has a smart group of friends and enjoys flying, but mostly devotes herself to her craft. She considered turning briefly when she fell in love with her older cousin, Silas Letifer but he married a rich heiress leaving Nex upset, and vowing revenge. Legend has it that her boyfriend cheated on her with a girl from the Maverty school, what is known is that he was never seen since.
Brief overview of magic skills: She's an extremely powerful witch for her young age, Nex knew more curses and poisons than most kids in their final year before she even entered school

He is known for healing any who survive the treacherous journey through the L'Khar Swamp, as well as any from the small village of Innsmouth, a town his family has mysteriously guarded for centuries. To a point, Toikar is known to be rather cold, and distant, focusing on his craft instead of worrying about feelings and emotions.

Bio: Not much is currently known about the mysterious swamp dweller calling himself Toikar, only that he belongs to the secretive Umbrae family. A family so hidden that many newcomers to the Innsmouth area wave their legends off a mere superstition, but to the old timers, those people whose own family lines stretch back far enough, the Umbrae family is all to real. The family themselves gained statewide recognition, or more precisely infamy, after their deep connections to The Esoteric Order of Dagon, (A sacrificial cult devoted to the Old Gods) was discovered during the raid on the town of Innsmouth sponsored by the United States Treasury Department. While how deep rooted the connection to the cult is unknown, the heads of the family were publicly executed immediately following the raid, as well with many of the other cultists, with the few survivors fleeing the town in droves. But that was almost two centuries ago. Now the family works it's influence from a far, each member slowly orchestrating national events from behind the shadows.

Toikar is no different. At the age of five, he was tasked by the headmasters of the Umbrae family to live in the newly created L'khar swamps, a writhing mass of brackish water and vines, an area that was slowly consuming the state of Louisiana, to train his powers of necromancy, as well as to protect the ancestral home of the Umbrae's, Innsmouth, from further interactions with the US government. So, by age six, Toikar's handler dropped him alone deep inside the swamp, with nothing but the clothes on his back to keep him safe. If the boy couldn't survive, then he was not fit to inherit the power of the Umbrae family.

Now, age 17, Toikar has fully earned the right to be called an Umbrae, as his skills in the Dark Arts have been sharpened to a razor's edge, and his abilities with poisons and potions are like non other in the family. Toikar was content with his lot in life, and he never expected to leave the swamp, other than family business of course, but his family thought otherwise. A few months ago, he was ushered into a secret meeting deep within the Umbrae compound, a meeting held between the top patriarchs and matriarchs of the family, and the very same room where he was officially pronounced an Umbrae five years ago. Apparently the parent families Letifer and Vallor had called for prospective students for their school of Dark Arts, a school that the Umbrae family had never felt the need to attend. Toikar however, was different. He was of a new generation, a generation that would rekindle the ancient alliance between the three families, and finally crush those whoever foolish enough to stand in their way.

History:
The earliest history of the Umbrae family is a murky one, being made up of mostly hearsay and rumors, rather than on fact. Some "Genealogists" make claims where the Umbraes settled on the North American continent as far back as the 1300's, while others state that the Umbraes couldn't have settled near modern-day Innsmouth before at least 1600. The one fact that is known, at least to outsiders that is, is that the modern day Umbraes did in fact flee the Italian peninsula for North America, for.. some reason. However, for those in the two parent families, the Vallors and the Letifers respectively, the Umbrae's history is more clear. Up until the early 14th century, there was no separate Umbrae family, as they were happily apart of the Letifer clan. The two groups prospered tremendously, both economically as well as in the Dark Arts of magic. The Letifers publicly focused on the more gruesome aspects of the art, while the Umbraes instead worked more from the shadows, living quite well up to their Latin translation of "shadows". This relationship worked well, and the twin families grew very powerful, their combined might rivaling that of the Vallor Family itself. This changed after the disastrous sack of Naples, resulting in both the Letifers and the Umbraes spillting from each other and fleeing from the Italian Peninsula.

While the Letifers eventually managed to regain their lost influence of Europe, the Umbraes instead chose to settle in the Americas, focusing entirely on controlling the continent's unclaimed resources. The bid worked tremendously. With the magic community focused entirely over the battle between Light and Dark in Europe, the Umbraes were slowly forgotten, allowed to grow unchecked in both numbers and power for almost a full two centuries. In 1643, the Umbraes founded and created the fishing town of Innsmouth, a front to hide the family's rapid growth in numbers as more and more Europeans settled in North America.

This is where all outsider knowledge ends, with only speculation remaining. It is believed that around the 1840's there was a radical shift in priorities within the family, as mentions of the cult calling itself "The Esoteric Order of Dagon" slowly rose to power in Innsmouth, quickly enveloping every resident of the sleepy town. Census records indicate that in 1846, a mysterious plague struck the town, causing mass depopulation. However, the real reason, as well as the sudden economic boom being felt by the town, was due to apparent human sacrifices being practiced by the Umbrae family. (It is still not clear what correlation there is between the rampart human sacrifices taking place and the surge of gold and seafood funneling through the town.)

Then, in 1927, the Umbraes were suddenly thrust back into the magical, as well as the world's view. A sudden raid carried out by the United States treasury department resulted in the public execution of almost the entirety of the Umbrae family, baed mainly on the rumors of hundreds of sacrifices over the years. The remaining Umbraes fled the area, retreating into ocean, never to be seen in the area again. Nationwide, there were manhunts for all remaining members of the Umbraes, manhunts which lasted for five years, but none were found.

Today, the Umbrae family has regained it's former strength as a major player against the light families in the magical community, although their existence is known by only a select few,(mainly the heads of the Letifer and Vallor families), and their location known only be the Umbraes themselves, the family's movements being hidden under a shroud of dark magics. Fully embracing the shadows of their name, the Umbraes are fully dedicated to avenging those that have been lost, even if it means outliving the few living enemies they have left..

Love your app, but if anything the Umbrae would be an offshoot of the Letifers, not the other way around.

A few months ago, he was ushered into a secret meeting deep within the Umbrae compound, a meeting held between the top patriarchs and matriarchs of the family, and the very same room where he was officially pronounced an Umbrae five years ago. Apparently the parent families Letifer and Vallor had called for prospective students for their school of Dark Arts, a school that the Umbrae family had never felt the need to attend. Toikar however, was different. He was of a new generation, a generation that would rekindle the ancient alliance between the three families, and finally crush those whoever foolish enough to stand in their way.

I honestly think this would work a lot better if there was one school, that just had two separate houses. Having two schools is going to be complicated for player interaction and make people have to choose between one or the other. Just my two cents though.

I think my idea will work perfectly fine, what school would let an evil house be in there if it were good? Thanks for the advice, you're accepted. I mean people are going to choose either way, like my home for kids had a huge influx of teachers and no kids. At least this way there will be some balance.

There were way more than just a few bad eggs, a majority of people in the house were bad eggs. There's a reason Slytherin produced more dark wizards than any other house.

But magic still survives, although it is normally hidden from the paranoid inbred fear of ordinary humans. There are still magical people being born every day all around the world. Some are even born to non magical parents families, these are called the Synith-born, Synith being the word for non magic people in Greek. These magical people are something of an enigma, neither fully accepted as "true" witches and wizards or cast out as monsters by their ordinary families. This isn't always the case but it is an overwhelming majority, just like normal children they need some place to go.

The Lethifold Wars were fought two hundred years ago, a light versus dark battle that raged throughout history. Of course the light prevailed, and the dark was battered by their losses.

Mrs. Maria Maverty, and her husband Jace Maverty came up with a solution. To preserve the future of their world as well as protect the children that are born like them, they converted a castle into a school where young witches and wizards could be trainee and be good upstanding citizens of the magical community, Maverty's School of Magic.


However, not all thought this was a wonderful idea. The magical families that supported the Dark, the ones that didn't turn, felt some type of way about being ostracized and forced to give up their way of life. Now these mages are the baddest of the bad, the ones that children are told about to scare them, their knowledge of dark magic and crimes committed against Synith and mage alike sent shock waves throughout the entire magic community. They decided to build a school of their own, a school that churned out more dark wizards and wicked witches than most have even seen before. This school, a grand imposing castle settled in the mountains of Germany, founded by Nerissa and Loran Vallor, the Vallor Academy of the Dark Arts. This is where the evil mage in training goes to learn his or her craft...this place is kept out of sight by powerful enchantments but that doesn't mean it's invisible. Each school has been heard off, the Maverty kids are often threatened to be sent there if they're naughty.

Now there is no fixed rule, not all who attend Maverty's are good just like not all who attend the Academy are evil. Some students are forced by their parents to go to these places and their true alignment doesn't match their studies. Some are figuring themselves out, some are simply neutral and are just going here to learn magic. These two schools have been at war for centuries, and soon enough a greater enemy will come and threaten them all. Which path will you choose? Will you be a good mage like Merlin, will you choose the path of evil, will you simply be neutral or are you trying to convince somebody to turn around?

These are some of the most powerful magical families throughout the magical world, whether Dark, Light or Neutral, not all of them walk their family path. Many get disowned because of this and their customs are vastly different, what is certain is the amount of influence and power they all hold is massive. Vallor Family- The Vallor family is one of the most well known and the most powerful dark magical family in Germany. They're the ones who founded the Academy and their history is so steeped in the dark arts that the name has become synonymous with it. Hesperus Vallor, the founder of this ancient House was the legendary foe of Merlin, and one of the most evil wizards that ever existed. He, along with some members of the other families nearly plunged the world into a thousand years of night. They are wealthy and feared, and it's said that Vallor children are "born bad" but that's not the case. With their last name being such a stigma, people born of this House feel that they have no other choice most of the time.

This house had produced good wizards, such as the founder of Giles' Hospital, Giles Vallor. Or Theresa Vallor, who discovered a cure for the red plague but they are so lost in the shadow.of their ancestors that people hardly remember them. They control the power behind the throne aspect and dark artifact aspect of the most dark operations, having forged many artifacts and wands for the dark side during the Lethifold wars and having served as foot soldiers. Bravery is their motto, and cowardice is seen as a great disgrace resulting in being cut off from the family. Their colors are blue and silver, and their coat of arms is a centaur dressed in armor wielding a wand in one hand and a sword in the other.

Called the "dealers of death", this dark family has often carried out the bloodier operations of the Dark Lords of the past, even producing quite a few infamous dark leaders themselves. Boeis Letifer was Dark Lord during the Lethifold wars, and he's currently the most infamous Dark Lord in history. Their official slogan is "dead men tell no tales".

Second only to the Vallors, the Letifers have been open dark wizards for generations. Letifer is Latin for "deadly" or "lethal", and they certainly live up to their surname. They've had high profile government positions all throughout their existence, a Letifer has always had a chair in the Parliament despite numerous attempts to remove them.
Their colors are red and green, their coat of arms is a black widow spider crawling up a dagger that is inscribed with the Latin phrase Ubi ego sum, letale invisibilium. (I am deadliest when I am unseen)


Aberdeer Family- Originating in Scotland, the Aberdeer are much more covert with their a lighten than their openly dark fellows. They prefer to attract their flies with honey rather than vinegar.




Maverty Family- An Anglo-Irish Wizarding family, this is one of the most well known families among the Wizarding circles. A member of the Sacred Circle and the Order of the Wands, they are the most powerful and influential through Europe.

They hoard knowledge like dragons hoard treasure, they have to have the biggest library of forbidden texts and spells this side of west Europe. They are great at maneuvering themselves into positions of power, either by assassination, intimidation or bribery. They've had high profile government positions all throughout their existence, a Letifer has always had a chair in the Parliament despite numerous attempts to remove them.

Aberdeer Family- Originating in Scotland, the Aberdeer are much more covert with their a lighten than their openly dark fellows. They prefer to attract their flies with honey rather than vinegar.




Maverty Family- An Anglo-Irish Wizarding family, this is one of the most well known families among the Wizarding circles. A member of the Sacred Circle and the Order of the Wands, they are the most powerful and influential through Europe.

Dark magic always has a price, a cost. That cost is usually more terrible the darker the spell, which is why it's illegal (people still do it though)

Bio: Iren was born to a Synith woman named Hannah and Fidelis Aberdeer, a wizard in Caithness, Scotland. Things were fine until baby Iren and her twin brother Ignotus started showing signs of magic, their mother couldn't take the idea of her children being "freaks" so she took off one night. The couple weren't married so it was rather simple to do. Devastated, Fidelis was left alone with two children to care for on his own. He did his best though, and he wasn't alone. His mother, also named Iren who was a witch of extraordinary ability helped with the rearing of her grandchildren. Iren the elder is descended from Oberon and Titania on her paternal side, and that trait still runs strong in their branch of the family today. Living in a small village in Caithness, among other magical folk, Iren and her brother lived a relatively peaceful life and they loved to explore the woods around their home. Iren's favorite part was the piskies, or fairies that would visit the village and cause mischief. They were taught magic as well as homeschooled for the early years of their life, Ignotus excelling at battle magic while Iren's niche was potions and charms. As one of the Light families of the Sacred Circle, Iren wholeheartedly embraced an anti dark magic stance, except if it were absolutely necessary.

She and her brother were sent to Maverty's when they were ten years old, Ignotus a good student but a playboy and mischief maker while Iren devoted herself to a small group of friends and excelling in her studies. She was made Head Girl in her sixth year despite getting up to some mischief herself with the aid of her cloak or simply because she was bored. She like most people know that a second wizard war may be arriving and she's prepared to do her duty to protect her family and the Light.

Brief overview of magic skills: She's an excellent potioneer, top of her class for two years in a row. She's like Snape in the regard that she corrects her textbooks and writes down her own potions recipes which turn out to be mostly more effective than the instructions in the textbooks. She's also a dab hand at charm work, but weaker when it comes to battle magic and destructive spells. Being of fairy blood she can sprout wings, change her size, do fairy magic as well as communicate with animals and speak the language of the fairies.
Goals: To become a healer/wise woman like her grandmother, maybe open up her own hospital. To find somebody worthy of marrying, to explore and to start a family someday
Likes: Shimmering things, potions, spells, bright colors, her family, good grades.
Dislikes: Bad grades, being bored, ugly clothing, her hair color, loud noises.
