No Imperial Scholars know exactly what happened, only that there was some evidence of a apocalyptic event in the far past, long before the Empire was formed. Some portent that an era of winter lasting a hundred years destroyed the most ancient civilizations. Others say a great plague or war. None could guess. But if one was to wind the clock back to the late 21st Century they'd see a species choking itself to death. War, famine. disease, and economic collapse loomed. What followed was the Atomic Wars that irradiated various cities and stretches of the Earth. Followed by the Ziccara Virus which reduced one to their basic instincts, basically cannibalistic creatures of limited herd mentality, overrunning most of humanities last bastions. The nuclear fallout and further human tampering's brought about the surviving human cities caused an induced Ice Age. Lasting only fifty years the glaciers however did their work. Reshaping much of the Earth as the sea's rose and fell. The years ticked on as Humanity struggled to meek out a miserly existence.
It was during this time that the Old Races walked the Earth according to Imperial Scholars. The Solarian's from Solace, The Dwellers, The Middle Men (average humans), The Sea-Dwellers, Giants, and menageries of beasts or monsters. The Solarians built a supremely advanced civilization than in certain regards surpassed Ancient Human civilization. The Dwellers short and stocky built magnificent underground fortresses and allies of the Middle Men. The Middle Men despite uneasy alliances with many of the Dwellers were prone to xenophobia. But that era came to an end with the Cataclysm of Solace, the extinction of the Giants, and the vanishing of the Sea-Dwellers. The Dwellers dwindled and intermixed with the Middle Men while the Solarian refugees became the Valkyrians.
During this time many realms had formed, were forming, or came into being. The Kingdom of Normeros, however, steadily grew in power. Their mastery of Dragons and craftsmanship far surpassing their neighbors. Giving them a technological edge that Imperial Scholars claimed made the formation of the Empire inevitable. Dragons only expedited the process considerably. The Coronation of Aerian I as Emperor started the Imperial Calendar and the Age of the Empire. While the Empire's existence was full of wars, internecine squabbles, and it's own share of problems within and without; it cannot be argued against the fact the Empire provided a basis of solidarity. Prosperity the likes of which the peoples of the continent had not seen in distant memory becoming reality. Stability, law, and in many regions long awaited peace abounded. But this might soon end, what will follow may be a Time of Contempt.
In Short the Goal of Everyone: Acquire more power

House Valkyr
(Vaal-Kei-ur)
House Valkyr traces their origins back to a certain Valyrian of Solace. Solace being an ancient city that most Imperial scholars view as mythical and possibly a fictitious rendition of history. However, House Valkyr and Imperial loyalists throughout history ardently ascertain that there is at least some veracity to this claim. Valyrian being a supposed Prince who escaped Solace after some cataclysmic event over 600 years prior to the present. Valyrian led his people to the site of Valkyria, named because of the Valkur, the ancient Solar word for Dragon, and that the Imperial capital rests in a ring of Volcanos named after the Pantheon of Gods worshipped by the Valkyrian people. Odan, Zaeius, Helian, Keres, Horus, Hira, Vena, Tartus, Artema, Athenea, Tor, Tyr, and Apollos. The Volcanoes became the Thirteen Fires as so named today and the only known location to find Dragon eggs. Also the city of Ameryka was founded across from Lake Evendyn, sadly, it was destroyed in a fiery eruption by the Thirteen Fires after the people of the city committed heretical blasphemies. So say the ancient texts.
Valyrian supposedly fought and tamed the Great Valkur Faenyr and was acclaimed the first King of Normeros after defeating Nine Demons. So say the ancient texts. His reign was long and prosperous, and is supposedly buried beneath the Imperial capital. Despite the fact no known records state his death nor where he was buried. Valyrian had eleven children who continued on his blood line. Their reigns short or long, peaceful or bloody, but it was not until the conquests of Prince Aerian and his five siblings: Aryan, Aeria, Aemilia, Valus, and Baldor. Their father aged and weary gave them governing power. Riding their Dragons they descended upon the lands to the West and South. Conquering, assimilating, and subjugating those tribes and realms. Any ruler which bent the knee willingly was allowed to keep their dominion over the lands and people so long as they offered their crown to the King of Normeros. Their crowns and vestiges forming a growing pile that was eventually forged into the Burning Throne upon the death of the aging King and the ascension of Aerian.
The newly crowned King Aerian started the Imperial Calendar upon his crowning and he reigned for fifty-one years. Under him and his surviving siblings for Valus had died of natural causes and Aemilia had vanished flying West they conquered the lands now ruled today. Aerian's son, Baleron became Baleron I, Emperor on the Burning Throne and King of Normeros (the Kingdom of Normeros becoming the Imperial Lands now known today though both terms are interchangeable). Since then the Valkyr have ruled over many generations.
However, the current Emperor, Baleron IV has shown increasing ineptitude and madness while on the Throne. Becoming increasingly out of touch with reality. His four children, Princes Aryan and Valyrian, and the two Princesses Aeria and Kira; watch in worry as the realm may potentially slide into chaos once more over who will sit on the Burning Throne.
Baleron, aged 61, was once lean and strong; now possessing a beer gut and shallow look. Blue eyes once young and bright now long since faded and chaotic in gaze. Once having pure white hair, now scraggly and greyed. His descent to madness was gradual and began in the Winter of 488. At first it was simply forgetting things and sleep walking. It was followed by outburst of anger, raving, and even the alleged rape of his now deceased wife Julaina. As the years wore on it became harder to hide with Prince Aryan and other imperial officials having to step in for their increasingly mad monarch. By 502 it was unclear if he would congratulate a person or sentence them to death. The death sentences often parried by the words of his eldest two children. But the House Majori and Minori know that a turbulent time could be ahead and test the very fabric of the civilization that has lived under the Burning Throne.
1.Prince Aryan, the eldest and possessing fiery red hair flecked with blonde with piercing blue-green eyes. Said to look much like the first Emperor Aerian's brother Aryan who is his namesake. He rides upon the silver dragon Moonfyre. Aged 28, standing at 6ft 4) and already a competent field commander from training and experience. Having fought savage cannibal tribes from the far north and the pirates of the Far South. He also is the perpetrator of the destruction of House Minori Myran, Jagurden, Koloran, and Wyomen when they revolted. To be fair it was due to Emperor Baleron IV having accused Lord Myran of adultery for no particular reason coupled with a plot to assassinate Baleron put forth by House Koloran. Imperial emissaries tried to smooth over the situation but to no avail. So in 492 they raised their banners hoping the House Majori would ally with them and despose Baleron. It was then Aryan learned his moniker 'Red Dragon,' for he orchestrated his fathers own death which proved to be a fake to lure the four houses into meeting him at a neutral location. There he had them murdered and their bodies devoured by his dragon. He then personally besieged and razed each House's holdings. Slaughtering their entire families and extinguishing their lines. Their lands where given to other loyal lords or new Houses where raised from the Knightly class to replace them.
2.Princess Aeria, aged 23, and proving to be a savvy player of court intrigues. She is less compassionate then her younger sister but a masterful diplomat having been tutored by several prominent scholars at the Imperial Court. She rides upon the golden scaled Ares.
3.Prince Valyrian, aged 21, standing at 5f 11 he is less physically imposing than his older brother. Possessing blonde hair, grey eyes, and thin. Inexperienced in the art of war, but given over to dueling, he is an accomplished swordsman and tourney contender. But not a leader of soldiers and knows little of actual battle strategy. Further he is a womanizer and detests Court politicking unless it involves women. He rides upon the red dragon Baal.
4.Princess Kira, aged 19, the youngest of Baleron's four children. She is a compassionate woman and often found reading tales of chivalrous knights and damsels in distress. She rides upon the white dragon Snowfyre. Empress Julaina died of complications during Kira's birth.
