If you want the press, let there be the press. Ask away.

History of your Nation (Please be very detailed, POD is from 1850*):With the end of the Second World War, Thailand lost the land they regained as part of the Axis powers, reverting back to their pre-1940 borders. By 1944, the pro-Axis government became extremely unpopular and Phibunsongkhram was ousted by the Seri Thai movement. With the new government in power, they evacuated Thai troops from British territory, all the while, trying to stay friendly to the Japanese. By the Japanese surrender in Southeast Asia, many of the Thai troops had already disarmed the garrisons for the incoming British troops.
Post-war, under Seni Pramoj, a Thai diplomat and the new Prime Minister, the name Thailand was reverted back to Siam as a symbol of the end of Phibun's government, but all was not well for the new leader. The new government of the Seri Thai was full of Pridi's (a regent in Thailand and leader of the civilian faction of the 1932 coup) Northeastern populists and Bangkok upstarts were not the sort that the aristocratic Seni preferred to associate with, who in turn, viewed him as an elitist; out of touch with the political realities of the nation. Pridi continued to wield power under the table as he had done before. Through personal animosities, Thailand's postwar politics would be poisoned with distrust.
The first elections in which political parties were legal, was held in January 1946, and Pridi's People's Party with its allies won a majority. In March 1946 Pridi became Siam's first democratically elected prime minister. In 1946, after he agreed to hand back the Indochinese territories occupied in 1941 as the price for admission to the United Nations, all wartime claims against Siam were dropped and aid was received.
In December 1945, the young king, the 8th Chakri, had returned to Siam from Europe, but in July 1946 he was found shot dead in his bed, under mysterious circumstances. Three palace servants were tried and executed for his murder, still leaving significant doubts as to their guilt. The 8th king of the dynasty was succeeded by his younger brother as the 9th Chakri. In August Pridi, was forced to resign amid suspicion that he had been involved in the regicide, causing the civilian government to fall. In November 1947, the royal army, seized power. After an interim government, the army brought Phibun back from exile and made him prime minister, Siam was renamed Thailand, and Pridi in turn was driven into exile.
Phibun's return to power coincided with the beginning of the Cold War and the establishment of a communist regime in Indochina. Soon winning the support of the anti-communist factions, began a line of military rule. Soon again, political opponents were arrested, tried, and were imprisoned or executed. During this time, several of the key figures in the wartime Free Thai underground, including Thawin Udom, Thawi Thawethikul, Chan Bunnak, and Tiang Sirikhanth, were eliminated by police, run by Phibun's associate Phao Sriyanond. Soon after, there were attempted counter-coups by Pridi supporters from 1948 to 1951, with the 1949 counter-coup leading to heavy fighting between the army and navy before Phibun emerged victorious. In the navy's attempt in 1951, popularly known as the Manhattan Coup, where Phibun was nearly killed, but escaped and had the plotters arrested.
In 1949, a new constitution was created, creating a senate appointed by the king (in practice, by the government). But in 1951 the regime abolished its own constitution and reverted to the 1932 arrangements, abolishing the national assembly as an elected body. This provoked strong opposition from the students and the press, leading to another round of trials and repression.
By 1955 Phibun was losing his leading position in the army to younger rivals led by Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat, General Thanom Kittikachorn, and General Pawit Chanpakdee. To bring up his position, he restored the 1949 constitution and called elections, which his supporters won. The army, however, was not prepared to give up power, and in September 1957, it demanded Phibun's resignation. When Phibun tried to have Sarit arrested, the army staged a another coup in September 1957, ending Phibun's regime. Thanom became prime minister until 1958, then yielded his place to Sarit, who held power until his death in 1963, where Pawit and Thanom entered a power struggle, with Pawit taking the lead.
Sarit, Thanom, and Pawit were the first Thai leaders to have been educated entirely in Thailand, less influenced by European political ideas, whether fascist or democratic, than the generation of Pridi and Phibun had been. They were Thai traditionalists, who sought to restore the prestige of the monarchy and to maintain a society based on order, hierarchy, and religion. They saw rule by the army as the best means of ensuring this, and also of defeating communism, which they now associated with Thailand's traditional enemies, the Vietnamese. Chakri the 9th, returning to Thailand in 1951, co-operated with this project, re-elevating the status of the monarchy.
The regimes of Sarit, Thanom, and Pawit were strongly supported by the anti-communist factions, involving itself in the Korean War, and formally become a NATO ally in 1954. While under the Pawit government, the war in Indochina was being fought between the Vietnamese and the French, Thailand took a limited role in the war between their traditional enemy and colonial conqueror. Once it became a war between the CSA and the Vietnamese communists, Thailand committed itself strongly to the American side, sending troops to in aid; and allowing the use of Thai airbases in the east of the country to conduct its bombing war against North the communists. In their own internal struggles with communism, mostly in the northeast, Thai troops moved into Shan State of Burma in a bid against the communist. In Laos and Cambodia, now rifle with communist insurgency, Pawit entered a deal with his cousin, Lao strongman, Major General Phoumi Nosakhet of the Royal Lao Army, and virtual dictator, controlling a lot of the politics, allowing Thai troops to enter Laos under the auspicious of anti-communism and helping their brother kingdom. Two years later, in 1974, Thai and Lao troops moved into northeastern Cambodia as a protective buffer and prop up for the Kingdom of Cambodia.

GENERAL INFORMATION CONT.:
History of your Nation (Please be very detailed, POD is from 1945*):In the night of August 14, 1945, a small group of conspirators, backed by the Japanese Minister of War Korechika Anami, was launched against what was perceived as "traitorous" elements within the imperial government. Aimed at purging defeatist elements within the government, and continuing war efforts against the Allies, the fait accompli was a death sentence to the remnants of Japan's civilian government. By the morning of August 15, the coup had succeeded. The Emperor, who had been "protected" from a failed attempt by his traitorous advisors to overthrow him, was placed under house arrest, while Anami declared himself to be Japan's new Prime Minister. Committed to the belief that a "decisive battle" on Japanese soil would force the Americans to come to the negotiating table, where he would be able to dictate favorable peace terms, Anami began his new role by purging pro-peace elements within the government. Defensive preparations, especially against the likely possibility of an American invasion, were continued and even ramped up. Whipping up a nationalist frenzy and renewed Japanese spirit in the face of a common enemy, Anami cited and used Japan's victories in the Russo-Japanese War and their defense against two Mongol invasion attempts as propaganda.
Anami's coup did little to stall Soviet intervention; despite desperate diplomatic attempts to keep them, at the very least, neutral in the Pacific War, it became increasingly clear that Kirov no longer intended to abide by the terms stipulated in the Neutrality Agreement. The Soviet invasion of Manchuria would come as a shock to Japan; not because it had been totally unpredictable, but because of the rapid collapse of the Kwantung Army. The virtual disintegration of its defensive lines lead to the fall of Manchuria and Northern Korea in the span of a week. By late August, a third atomic bomb had been prepared and dropped on Yokohama, a major industrial and manufacturing center. While the Kokura Arsenal, the intended target for the Fat Man bomb, was initially ruled as a third target, it was changed in favor of Yokohama. A fourth atomic bomb would later be dropped on Osaka, as it was a major transportation hub and port. As the United States prepared to invade the home islands, the Soviets attacked from the north with surprising speed. Having consolidated their gains and supply lines in Manchuria and the northern part of the Korean peninsula, Soviet troops quickly overwhelmed the meagre Japanese defenses in Hokkaido.
In what remained of Japan's holdings in China, imperial troops would engage in a desperate but utterly futile series of "counteroffensives." This quickly lost momentum, with food, supplies, ammunition, and provisions running at dangerously low levels. Desperation and confusion in the aftermath of Amani's coup resulted in retreating Japanese troops to commit a string of brutal atrocities across occupied China. Chiang Kai-shek and his army would be faced with the prospect of mopping up pockets of Japanese resistance, and liberating the occupied territories throughout most of 1946. By November of 1945, American forces landed on Japan's southernmost island of Kyushu, beginning the invasion Japan had feared for so long. Fierce and bloody fighting quickly ensued; while on paper, the Japanese Army seemed to be formidable, it was in reality a mess of poorly trained conscripts and militias. The "decisive battle" that Amani and many other hardliners had predicted would be in Kyushu, and so whatever available forces and supplies were soon poured into the desperate struggle.
Even with Amani's best efforts, Kyushu fell by mid-1946, while in Hokkaido, Soviet forces slaughtered the Japanese defenders. A Soviet invasion of Northern Honshu ensued, followed by an American invasion from the south. Faced with this predicament, war exhaustion within Japan had reached a new high. Nationwide food shortages and famine were common, while the use of atomic bombs had reduced entire cities to little more than rubble. An attempted coup would result in the assassination of Korechika Anami, and while the conspirators were quickly rounded up and executed, it would contribute to the overall chaos and disorganization of Japan's forces. After a second round of purges, the Supreme War Council, nothing more than a military junta, would assume control of what was left of the Imperial Japanese Army. By late-1946, Tokyo fell after a brave but hopeless stand by Japanese forces. By 1947, a joint Confederate-American force met Soviet soldiers in Odawara, where rough zones of occupation where established. The US would occupy Kyushu and Southern Honshu, with the Confederacy occupying Shikoku, and the Soviets, Northern Honshu and Hokkaido.
In the immediate aftermath of a postwar Japan, the United States was forced to contend with a population that had been starving over the course of several years. With the blockade, and two years of fierce, bloody fighting, a gradual breakdown of social order had occurred in many areas. However, under the direction of Confederate General Douglas MacArthur, Japan would begin to experience a period of post-war recovery. The zaibatsu, huge business conglomerates which had dominated Japan's economic and industrial scene for years, were dissolved, only to have prominent zaibatsu families remain to build up an industrial base and provide a bulwark against communism. While every aspect of Japanese society was restructured, massive emergency food shipments from both the United States and the Confederacy helped stave off a complete nationwide famine. In 1949, a new Constitution was ratified, offering a wide range of new civil, political, and economic freedoms. Perhaps one of the most controversial and important articles in the Constitution was the "Peace Clause", in which Japan agreed to renounce war, as well as all instruments of it.
The 1949 election saw a temporary socialist government come into power, as it was the largest party in the Diet. However, it soon collapsed, following an internal split within its ranks; the Marxist-Leninist elements split to form the Leftist Socialist Party of Japan, while the more moderate elements formed the Rightist Socialist Party of Japan. The Liberal Party under Shigeru Yoshida would move on to dominate the government during the 1952 elections. Under his administration, the Yoshida doctrine was adopted. Emphasizing economic recovery and US/CSA military protection, he signed several mutual self-defense agreements with both countries. The outbreak of the Korean War, and the 1954 UN intervention lead to the diversion of most US troops signaled the end of the American occupation of Kyushu and Southern Honshu. However, Shikoku under MacArthur continued to remain under a Confederate military administration.
The fall of Korea and the triumph of the communists in China sparked fears of communism in Japan. Now, the nation - which had formerly agreed to renounce war - was now thrust into the frontlines of the Cold War. While the Soviets in Northern Japan had made concessions and allowed humanitarian assistance to be provided, they were still a communist nation. With this drastically altered political climate, the Socialists, along with the Democratic and Liberal parties remain split. The 1955 election would yield a victory for the Democrats, and the ascension of the conservative Nobusuke Kishi. His leadership would give fruition to an alternative to the Yoshida doctrine - the Kishi doctrine. Arguing that the security treaties with the US and the CSA essentially made Japan a protectorate, he advocated rearmament. In 1956, the National Diet officially agreed to revoke Article 9, with the approval of the US. This move attracted significant opposition, prompting Kishi to pass a bill authorizing excessive police powers in an effort to suppress it. Despite protests, in the form of various strikes, they failed to garner the support needed to prevent the bill from passing.
Along with the formation of the Japanese Armed Forces, Kishi would attempt to revise the US-CSA security treaties, pushing for a reduction of foreign troops and bases on Japanese soil. This, along with several other important factors, would lead to a series of nationwide demonstrations and protests, organized by the opposition throughout 1958-1959. A period of stunted economic growth (as a result of the greater focus on the military) as well as growing opposition to Kishi's authoritarian measures resulted in a landslide victory for the Democratic Party's main opposition, the Liberal Party under Hayato Ikeda in 1963. Kishi would, for the most part after his defeat, retire from national politics, except to emerge once again in 1966 for a speech. In his short tenure as Prime Minister, Ikeda would improve relations and reconcile with Northern Japan. As it had become increasingly distant from the Soviet Union, towards a more non-aligned stance, Ikeda argued for a gradual reconciliation with North Japan, which would eventually lead to reunification. He also pushed through a number of progressive legislation, benefiting workers and labor unions. However, he resigned a year after his landslide election due to ill health, and announced Nagao Aki as his successor.
Nagao Aki, a rising politician within the Liberal Party, announced his intentions to continue Ikeda's policies. A popular leader, he presided over South Japan's high rates of economic growth, followed by a further budget slashes for the military. An increasingly factionalized Liberal Party, however, would see Nagao Aki replaced by his rival, Konna Shihei. A poor showing in the 1969 elections would allow the Liberal Party to maintain control over the government only with the support of several minor parties, including the Socialist and Clean Government Parties. However, a series of alleged corruption scandals would propel the Democratic Party into power after nearly a decade of Liberal leadership in the 1972 election. The beginning of the conflict in Vietnam would become a central topic, with the Democratic Party advocating military support to the South Vietnamese. Under Prime Minister Oba Etsuya, the Democratic Party government has begun to seek to rebuild a drastically weakened military, while strengthening ties with Japan's noncommunist Asian neighbors. In 1974, Etsuya's official declaration of support for a direct Confederate military intervention in Indochina sparked a wide series of protests from students, culminating into the Tokyo Riots of 1974.
In a spree of violent looting and mass demonstrations not seen since the days of Nobusuke Kishi, riot police violently suppressed protestors through a variety of methods in a week long clash between students and authorities. The crackdown resulted in widespread condemnations from prominent nations in the communist bloc, including the USSR, China, Korea, and Northern Japan. However, despite the declaration of support, South Japan has refrained from joining the anticommunist coalition, and has instead focused on building up its military with American and Confederate support.

Maybe today, but this takes place 40 years ago. As for the GDP, that's three times larger than the GDP today, never mind in the mid 70s. Although I imagine data on the historic GDP of those countries is probably hard to find so I can't really be too picky about it.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
NS Name: Zostra
Official Nation Name: Federal Union of Iberia
Nation short Name: Iberia
Territorial Claims: Spain, Portugal, Goa, other overseas territories circa 1976.
Population: 45,190,000
GOVERNMENT INFORMATION:
Government Style: One-party Federal Socialist Republic.
Political Freedoms: Limited. The Iberian Socialist League, or ISL, is the only legal federal party, incorporating several other national and provincial leftist parties under its umbrella. Provinces and municipalities tend to be more politically independent with grassroots democracy being common on the local level. Debate within the ISL and its satellite parties is common with it being far less ideologically dogmatic than its Marxist-Leninist or Maoist counterparts in the Warsaw Pact and China. Party members are generally free to dissent although the core tenets of socialism remain legally inviolable.
Civil Freedoms: Progressive in many ways. Government strives for full equality of women and national minorities. Freedom of debate, assembly, speech, expression, and the press are much more liberal than the Eastern bloc. They are, however, still limited somewhat with the leading role of the ISL being concrete.
Economic Freedoms: Private economic property is expressly forbidden in almost all cases. The vast majority of enterprises are owned either by provincial or federal governments or collectively by their employees. However, small shops and farms under a certain size, usually 4-10 employees, are allowed to exist privately. Government has a controlling interest in vital areas such as railways, power, and communications.
Nations Capitol: Madrid
Head of State: President Alejandro Caballero
Head of Government: Prime Minister Manuel Silva
State Religion: State secularism, with Catholicism being the most commonly practiced among the populace.
Legislature type: Bicameral
Main Political Party: Iberian Socialist League (ISL)
Political beliefs: Socialism, workers self-management, democratic centralism, anti-imperialism.
Political Agenda and/or goals: Retain its non-aligned stance and try not to anger either of the superpowers. Support Spanish and Portuguese speaking nations which share similar views. Continue to develop internally, improving infrastructure, education, and quality of life.
MILITARY INFORMATION:
Foreign Policy: Pursues a policy of non-alignment. Tries to retain cordial relations with the western capitalist powers, particularly its neighbour France, while also pursuing pursuing ties with the communist bloc. Supports national liberation and anti-imperialist movements in Latin American, Africa, and Asia to varying degrees. Is close with former Portuguese and Spanish colonies which have enacted leftist policies.
Alignment: Non-aligned
Potential Allies: Yugoslavia, Mexico, China, other non-Soviet Socialist states
Potential Enemies: Possibly United States due to activities in Latin America.

GENERAL INFORMATION CONT.:
History of your Nation: In 1936 Spain was a nation divided. Leftist democrats, socialists, and anarchists were locked in a political struggle with landowners, the clergy, and much of the military. With the election of a leftist coalition government, things came to a head. A large faction of the military attempted a coup to seize power throughout Spain on July 17, thus dividing the country into a civil war between rightist "Nationalists" and leftist "Republicans". Several key areas were taken in the opening days, notably all of Spanish Morocco, but government forces retained control over most of the country. Without the historical naval and air support of Italy as in our timeline, Nationalists efforts to transport the elite Morocco troops to mainland Spain were badly mauled. Most of the navy and air force remained Republican loyalists and so interceded a vast majority of ships and aircraft which tried to reach the mainland. Although small forces did make it through, the bulk of the over 30,000 soldiers alongside their equipment did not.
Despite Nationalist failures, several brutal years of civil war followed. The realities of combat and atrocities on both sides radicalized Republican opposition, turning into a much farther left force than it had originally been. By the time final victory was attained in late 1938, the government was dominated by a socialist-communist coalition with anarchists holding power in several regions. This government dedicated itself to a revolutionary program and purged "reactionary forces," to consolidate power. This included the more independent minded anarchists who resisted central control and wished for an extremely decentralized system. A new constitution was enacted in 1939 which created the country as a socialist state which recognized the primacy of the communist party while also establishing federalism in an attempt to appease those wary of a Stalinist style central government.
During WWII Spain remained neutral as it exported to both sides in order to fund a recovery effort from the Civil War. It also increasingly agitated for an uprising in neighbouring Portugal, home to a quasi-fascist right dictatorship. In 1948 it heavily backed an uprising which after some six months of protests, civil unrest, and open combat resulted in a collapse of the regime. The new Portuguese government, heavily influenced by Spanish communists, agreed to a merger of the two nations in 1950, creating the Federal Union of Iberia. The next decades saw the new country chart a course untethered from either of the two opposing power blocs. Following infrastructure investments and the training of a leftist government apparatus, Spanish Morocco, Sahara, and Guinea were granted independence in 1952. A similar process followed with Portuguese Guinea, Angola, and Mozambique from 1957 to 1962. Close ties remain with these nations to this day.
During the 1960s, Iberia began to become increasingly active in world affairs, joining the non-aligned movement in 1965 and supporting anti-imperialist movements. It looked to Mexico's "Tercermundismo" policy as inspiration and forged relationships throughout the third-world with Iberian funded infrastructure and education projects a common sight in the Africa and Latin America.

You'll shrink it a lot. Your nation shouldn't have a GDP larger than a 150 billion and even then that's pushing it. Most Aftican countries are relatively new since decolonization, I doubt a lot of them have a GDP higher than 150 billion, like I said even that's pushing it.
