Cuba remains under CSA influence, I don't think it would turn Commie. Mexico is the new Cuba so to speak, the USSR can store weapons on your territory sparking the Mexican Missile Crisis if you want. But we really need a USSR first before we do that. US-Mexico relations will be at its lowest point if that happens, might invade you again if push comes to shove.

Sounds good, get on his good side early on. Maybe we can renew our military and politcal commitments, and discuss further details on Scandinavia's role in the containment strategy.

Nah, not unless you want a crisis in the US with the Latino population.
I could detonate a nuke on the border and the effects would reach countless cities in the US and CSA. I am the new Cuba, but I can actually prosper economically. I'm part of the G20 and growing.

Sounds good to me. I'll try to get my post up today or tomorrow; since school starts for me tomorrow, tho, that means if I post tomorrow, it'll be sometime in the evening.

That can all change with my political clout, economic embargoes, ousted from the G20 etc. If the USSR stores nukes in Mexico, I'll invade. If the Latino population stages an uprising, I'll put it down.

Population: 43,000,000
GOVERNMENT INFORMATION:
Government Style: Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy
Political Freedoms: High. People are allowed to elect representatives at the municipal, prefectural, and national levels, including the Japanese Diet. Elections are generally free and fair, although various scandals and corruption within the government have taken a toll on the nation's political freedoms.
Civil Freedoms: Moderately high. The 1949 Japanese Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, press, assembly, movement, religion, along with gender equality. However, civil freedoms in Japan suffer from abuses, particularly within the criminal justice system and discrimination towards minorities and women.
Economic Freedoms: Moderate. While a period of massive economic and financial recovery has brought Japan into global prominence and scrutiny, government ties with big businesses (known as zaibatsu - they were partially dissolved but kept in order to create an industrial base for South Japan against the communists) and restrictions on business and trade have lowered it considerably.
Nations Capitol: Kyoto
Head of State: Emperor Hirohito
Head of Government: Prime Minister Oba Etsuya (Japan Democratic Party)
State Religion: There is no official state religion, although the majority of the population is Shinto, with Buddhist and Christian minorities.

MILITARY INFORMATION:
Foreign Policy: With the fall of China, Korea, and even Northern Japan to the scepter of communism, the Southern Japanese government has adopted a staunch anti-communist stance. A resurgence of Japanese nationalism, followed by the rearmament of the Japanese military, has only contributed to this. GENERAL INFORMATION CONT.:
History of your Nation (Please be very detailed, POD is from 1945*):In the night of August 14, 1945, a small group of conspirators, backed by the Japanese Minister of War Korechika Anami, was launched against what was perceived as "traitorous" elements within the imperial government. Aimed at purging defeatist elements within the government, and continuing war efforts against the Allies, the fait accompli was a death sentence to the remnants of Japan's civilian government. By the morning of August 15, the coup had succeeded. The Emperor, who had been "protected" from a failed attempt by his traitorous advisors to overthrow him, was placed under house arrest, while Anami declared himself to be Japan's new Prime Minister. Committed to the belief that a "decisive battle" on Japanese soil would force the Americans to come to the negotiating table, where he would be able to dictate favorable peace terms, Anami began his new role by purging pro-peace elements within the government. Defensive preparations, especially against the likely possibility of an American invasion, were continued and even ramped up. Whipping up a nationalist frenzy and renewed Japanese spirit in the face of a common enemy, Anami cited and used Japan's victories in the Russo-Japanese War and their defense against two Mongol invasion attempts as propaganda.
Anami's coup did little to stall Soviet intervention; despite desperate diplomatic attempts to keep them, at the very least, neutral in the Pacific War, it became increasingly clear that Kirov no longer intended to abide by the terms stipulated in the Neutrality Agreement. The Soviet invasion of Manchuria would come as a shock to Japan; not because it had been totally unpredictable, but because of the rapid collapse of the Kwantung Army. The virtual disintegration of its defensive lines lead to the fall of Manchuria and Northern Korea in the span of a week. By late August, a third atomic bomb had been prepared and dropped on Yokohama, a major industrial and manufacturing center. While the Kokura Arsenal, the intended target for the Fat Man bomb, was initially ruled as a third target, it was changed in favor of Yokohama. A fourth atomic bomb would later be dropped on Osaka, as it was a major transportation hub and port. As the United States prepared to invade the home islands, the Soviets attacked from the north with surprising speed. Having consolidated their gains and supply lines in Manchuria and the northern part of the Korean peninsula, Soviet troops quickly overwhelmed the meagre Japanese defenses in Hokkaido.
In what remained of Japan's holdings in China, imperial troops would engage in a desperate but utterly futile series of "counteroffensives." This quickly lost momentum, with food, supplies, ammunition, and provisions running at dangerously low levels. Desperation and confusion in the aftermath of Amani's coup resulted in retreating Japanese troops to commit a string of brutal atrocities across occupied China. Chiang Kai-shek and his army would be faced with the prospect of mopping up pockets of Japanese resistance, and liberating the occupied territories throughout most of 1946. By November of 1945, American forces landed on Japan's southernmost island of Kyushu, beginning the invasion Japan had feared for so long. Fierce and bloody fighting quickly ensued; while on paper, the Japanese Army seemed to be formidable, it was in reality a mess of poorly trained conscripts and militias. The "decisive battle" that Amani and many other hardliners had predicted would be in Kyushu, and so whatever available forces and supplies were soon poured into the desperate struggle.
Even with Amani's best efforts, Kyushu fell by mid-1946, while in Hokkaido, Soviet forces slaughtered the Japanese defenders. A Soviet invasion of Northern Honshu ensued, followed by an American invasion from the south. Faced with this predicament, war exhaustion within Japan had reached a new high. Nationwide food shortages and famine were common, while the use of atomic bombs had reduced entire cities to little more than rubble. An attempted coup would result in the assassination of Korechika Anami, and while the conspirators were quickly rounded up and executed, it would contribute to the overall chaos and disorganization of Japan's forces. After a second round of purges, the Supreme War Council, nothing more than a military junta, would assume control of what was left of the Imperial Japanese Army. By late-1946, Tokyo fell after a brave but hopeless stand by Japanese forces. By 1947, a joint Confederate-American force met Soviet soldiers in Odawara, where rough zones of occupation where established. The US would occupy Kyushu and Southern Honshu, with the Confederacy occupying Shikoku, and the Soviets, Northern Honshu and Hokkaido.
In the immediate aftermath of a postwar Japan, the United States was forced to contend with a population that had been starving over the course of several years. With the blockade, and two years of fierce, bloody fighting, a gradual breakdown of social order had occurred in many areas. However, under the direction of Confederate General Douglas MacArthur, Japan would begin to experience a period of post-war recovery. The zaibatsu, huge business conglomerates which had dominated Japan's economic and industrial scene for years, were dissolved, only to have prominent zaibatsu families remain to build up an industrial base and provide a bulwark against communism. While every aspect of Japanese society was restructured, massive emergency food shipments from both the United States and the Confederacy helped stave off a complete nationwide famine. In 1949, a new Constitution was ratified, offering a wide range of new civil, political, and economic freedoms. Perhaps one of the most controversial and important articles in the Constitution was the "Peace Clause", in which Japan agreed to renounce war, as well as all instruments of it.
The 1949 election saw a temporary socialist government come into power, as it was the largest party in the Diet. However, it soon collapsed, following an internal split within its ranks; the Marxist-Leninist elements split to form the Leftist Socialist Party of Japan, while the more moderate elements formed the Rightist Socialist Party of Japan. The Liberal Party under Shigeru Yoshida would move on to dominate the government during the 1952 elections. Under his administration, the Yoshida doctrine was adopted. Emphasizing economic recovery and US/CSA military protection, he signed several mutual self-defense agreements with both countries. The outbreak of the Korean War, and the 1954 UN intervention lead to the diversion of most US troops signaled the end of the American occupation of Kyushu and Southern Honshu. However, Shikoku under MacArthur continued to remain under a Confederate military administration.
The fall of Korea and the triumph of the communists in China sparked fears of communism in Japan. Now, the nation - which had formerly agreed to renounce war - was now thrust into the frontlines of the Cold War. While the Soviets in Northern Japan had made concessions and allowed humanitarian assistance to be provided, they were still a communist nation. With this drastically altered political climate, the Socialists, along with the Democratic and Liberal parties remain split. The 1955 election would yield a victory for the Democrats, and the ascension of the conservative Nobusuke Kishi. His leadership would give fruition to an alternative to the Yoshida doctrine - the Kishi doctrine. Arguing that the security treaties with the US and the CSA essentially made Japan a protectorate, he advocated rearmament. In 1956, the National Diet officially agreed to revoke Article 9, with the approval of the US. This move attracted significant opposition, prompting Kishi to pass a bill authorizing excessive police powers in an effort to suppress it. Despite protests, in the form of various strikes, they failed to garner the support needed to prevent the bill from passing.
Along with the formation of the Japanese Armed Forces, Kishi would attempt to revise the US-CSA security treaties, pushing for a reduction of foreign troops and bases on Japanese soil. This, along with several other important factors, would lead to a series of nationwide demonstrations and protests, organized by the opposition throughout 1958-1959. A period of stunted economic growth (as a result of the greater focus on the military) as well as growing opposition to Kishi's authoritarian measures resulted in a landslide victory for the Democratic Party's main opposition, the Liberal Party under Hayato Ikeda in 1963. Kishi would, for the most part after his defeat, retire from national politics, except to emerge once again in 1966 for a speech. In his short tenure as Prime Minister, Ikeda would improve relations and reconcile with Northern Japan. As it had become increasingly distant from the Soviet Union, towards a more non-aligned stance, Ikeda argued for a gradual reconciliation with North Japan, which would eventually lead to reunification. He also pushed through a number of progressive legislation, benefiting workers and labor unions. However, he resigned a year after his landslide election due to ill health, and announced Nagao Aki as his successor.
Nagao Aki, a rising politician within the Liberal Party, announced his intentions to continue Ikeda's policies. A popular leader, he presided over South Japan's high rates of economic growth, followed by a further budget slashes for the military. An increasingly factionalized Liberal Party, however, would see Nagao Aki replaced by his rival, Konna Shihei. A poor showing in the 1969 elections would allow the Liberal Party to maintain control over the government only with the support of several minor parties, including the Socialist and Clean Government Parties. However, a series of alleged corruption scandals would propel the Democratic Party into power after nearly a decade of Liberal leadership in the 1972 election. The beginning of the conflict in Vietnam would become a central topic, with the Democratic Party advocating military support to the South Vietnamese. Under Prime Minister Oba Etsuya, the Democratic Party government has begun to seek to rebuild a drastically weakened military, while strengthening ties with Japan's noncommunist Asian neighbors. In 1974, Etsuya's official declaration of support for a direct Confederate military intervention in Indochina sparked a wide series of protests from students, culminating into the Tokyo Riots of 1974.
In a spree of violent looting and mass demonstrations not seen since the days of Nobusuke Kishi, riot police violently suppressed protestors through a variety of methods in a week long clash between students and authorities. The crackdown resulted in widespread condemnations from prominent nations in the communist bloc, including the USSR, China, Korea, and Northern Japan. However, despite the declaration of support, South Japan has refrained from joining the anticommunist coalition, and has instead focused on building up its military with American and Confederate support.
