Keeping up the pace with the rest of XCOM operators who still able to stand, run, and wield the weapons finely, Elsa was quite worried. Charlie's down, not all, but enough to keep them from being more useful as always, as there are few who left behind to take care of the rest who got wounded nor incapacitated.

Wolfram's comms went through the universal communication, where he revealed he had the sight on the temple and the possible location of the UFO after the temple. Big Sky is providing recon support, and maybe...fire support, too, perhaps? In the case it didn't provide one, all-out battle is a sure thing. Elsa took a slower pace as she got closer to the temple entrance, taking cover behind a thick log, as she patched in within the comms, <<Alpha 3 to all, I have confirmation on the sight of the temple entrance. Possible locations of the Sectoids after the entrance, over.>>

<I'm going to have to say negative to that. We are heading into a head on assault situation and we can't afford to have anyone in reserve, Charlie needs to fold up into one of us and since your squad is down I recommend you take them on.>

Until now Barbs had been content to let Wolfram handle things and had quietly directed his team up the hill at double time while he sent his scouts out ahead to head up toward the ship at their own discretion. But now he was piping up; they were literally preparing to run into a dangerous situation and they would need every available body in the upcoming fight if they intended to win. They couldn't hold back two valuable fighters in reserve.

CPL Konayama Miyuki "Milky", Bravo Two, Sniper.
Yaxha, Guatemala

"I'm telling you sergeant." Milky said as she huffed and puffed, her chestbone aching as the broken vest bounced along with every step of her run. "-it's not ab- CONTACT!!"

It was reflexive, Milky raising her hand and grabbing onto Herrman's webbing, the sniper pulling her sergeant back with all her might. The green splot slapped the earth where Herrman's mass would have taken it a moment ago, and while the other members of Bravo were reacting to the Sectoids at the Temple Entrance, Milky counted the three odd figures which her eye for assassination has memorized.

In the same move where her left hand pulled the big man back, Milky raised her rifle, the heavy weapon pressed against her shoulder as she caught view of the Sectoids at the entrance. Her reflexes brought the crosshairs of the S.C.O.P.E to Sectoid 08, her left hand just stabilizing the rifle as she exhaled, pulling the trigger. The kick of the rifle was absorbed fully by the hollow of her shoulder, but the pain and fatigue she experienced weakened her grip as the recoil threw Milky onto the earth, her face a mask of pain as she gritted her teeth, refusing to cry out in pain.

The bullet flew true, slicing through the neck of the Sectoid as it nearly severed the head from the body. The alien flew back, its shot flying wild as the weapon exploded in its hand. Milky was exposed, the sniper quickly getting onto her feet, but for the moment she was caught in the open, the two other Sectoids eyeing their new prey who took the earlier kill from them.

ALIEN ACTIVITY

The three Sectoids (08, 09, and 10) blocking the main gate leading into the courtyard saw movement and were quick to open fire, leaning out from their cover to lob volley after volley of green plasma at where they suspected the humans to be. Several bolts of superheated energy came close to Sgt. Herrman, the mountain of a man avoiding a lethal wound if only due to Cpl. Konayama’s quick thinking, the small woman having grabbed onto the man and stalling his step. A quick retaliatory shot ended the life of Sectoid 08 and scattered the others, ending the barrage for a moment as Secroid 09 and Sectoid 10 fell back into hiding behind the heavy stones of the ruins. Elsewhere the aliens occupying the temple courtyard were alerted and were readying themselves for combat, holding their fire until a target presented itself.

High above the Skyrange of Big Sky was circling, watching, like an eagle on the hunt. The pilot heard Sgt. Barbs’ hail and responded in a timely fashion. ”Xenos are digging in. Going in through the front is gonna be tough. Not many are watching their southwestern flank. If a team could sneak around through the jungle while the others attack from the front you should be able to catch the bastards off guard. Whatever you do just make it fast. Getting some pretty loud readings from that UFO.”

Sergeant Wolfram Herrman, Bravo-1
Yaxha, Guatemala

The suddenness of the event caught Herrman off guard. He wasn't moved at all by the pint sized woman, though his pace was slowed just enough to avoid having an impromptu foot amputation. That could wait for the latter stages of diabetes. Wolfram snapped his own rifle up as Konayama's reflexes proved she had what it took. Her rifle sounded before Wolfram could even take aim. But when the massive man did, he sprayed at a fleeing Sectoid, the spray of blood and cry from the bush proved it was wounded, if not dead outright. The sound of the smaller girl falling over reached his ears, likely from the recoil and pain from earlier. He couldn't really blame her about that.

He kept his rifle aimed at the bushes as he kneeled down, covering the Japanese woman from a more stable stance as she recollected herself, "Thanks Kid. You good? We still got a UFO to ground." And boy was that going to be a job, the casualty count for Munich was nearly 600, half the KSK and a little over 70 civvies. That could not be allowed to happen again, no if and or buts. If they failed here those lives would be on them, and chances were there would be no second chance for something like this.

Samir 'Eight Ball' Malik. AKA - 'Bravo 6'
Yaxha, Guatemala

Samir made way towards the front of the pack once their short jaunt through the jungle bought them toward the temple grounds, a dilapidated structure constructed from weather beaten and moss encrusted stone that had stood the test of time and the elements to this day, it seemed a shame to destroy such an endured structure, a monument to times long forgotten. Bravo had paused to reorganize before the final assault and push towards the damaged UFO, Samir ducked down in the brush alongside Milky and Roscoe and directed his eyes towards the temple gateway where a trio of Sectoids had set up their first line of defense, several more could be seen darting in and out of the stone ruins and between alien like supply crates and storage containers, they knew the enemy were coming and were reacting accordingly. Before anybody could even come up with the semblance of a plan, the rounds started flying and not in the direction that the soldiers wanted them to. Several plasma rounds scorched the earth and bark near Bravo and almost claimed Hermann who had just been pulled from harms way by Milky, who in earnest started returning accurate fire.

"Give me some covering fire! Let me get in close!"

Like a wound up jack in the box, Samir bolted from his crouched position into a full blown sprint across the open ground towards a cluster of fallen rectangular blocks that were a remnant of a building long gone, green blots of plasma started pelting the air and ground around him, kicking dirt and mud up right at his heels and toes, it was no surprise that one eventually met its mark and caught the sprinting soldier on his hip, throwing Samir in a cartwheel like fashion into the dirt, his momentum allowed for several more foot of air time before he crumpled into a painful heap behind cover.

"Arghh! ...Fuck that stings...." The Lebanese soldier hissed through clenched teeth and rolled over to inspect the damage, the plasma had melted away the outer layer but the inner nano-fiber layer held fast and caught the brunt of the plasma leaving only a fizzling green blotch where the residue remained, the armor would hold. Samir collected his shotgun from the ground and pelted two buckshot rounds at the relative position of the incoming fire but hit nothing, the buckshot chipped away at some of the outer walls but otherwise missed their mark completely, he would have to try something else.

From his belt Samir retrieved his fragmentation grenade and yanked the pin from its lodging yet still holding the handle firmly, peered over the rock to gauge the power of his throw. The Sectoids had holed up behind clusters of rocks not to different from the one he was currently hiding behind. Taking a deep breath, Samir cranked back his throwing arm and gave only a breif warning before lobbing the grenade, overarm, towards its destination.

"Frag out!"

Samir didn't wait to see the damage done and as soon as the grenade began sailing through the air he didn't waste another second scrambling back behind solid cover.

Roscoe had finally recovered from the explosion when it finally hit him; Charlie Team’s sniper was nowhere to be found. “Where the fuck is Kaidan?” He glanced around, seeing a few surprised and shook up faces around him. He could pretty much figure out the poor man’s whereabouts; he was dead. That sensation he had felt hadn't been Deja Vu or just a regular cold chill. He had experience Kaidan’s death. Nothing psychic about it; just one of those things where you KNEW. Roscoe just knew it. He hung his head down, sighing. “Fuck, man. Just… fuck.”

They continued moving.

***

He stayed in formation with Bravo, Samir and Miyuki walking along nearby. The walk was quiet, for him at least. He didn't say a word, nor did he make any indication that he wished to. His standard happy-go-lucky personality had washed away. He hadn't experienced casualties much before, even though he had seen a few. But this… this was different. It wasn't the brotherhood aspect, or the friendship aspect, he had already been through those a few times before. No, rather it was the hush hush about it. Nobody spoke of Kaidan, shrapnel covering his neck and upper body. He didn't like that; he wanted to talk about it, but nobody else seemed inclined to. Perhaps it wasn't the best time…

The fighting soon began, as it always had and as it always would.

Roscoe himself had rolled behind a log whenever the shooting began, making a frantic dash while Miyuki saved the Sarge’s life. He thanked her for that, if only because he himself hadn't noticed. “Oh, God!” Roscoe screamed, holding his helmet down as green streaks of plasma sliced air above him.

Soon enough, Samir tumbled over the log and through the brush, and Roscoe followed suit. They managed to find a chunk of rubble from the ruin, a fallen chunk of yellow stone that had crumbled off years before. It was about as tall as they were, six feet and just a few more inches. Roscoe looked around, eyes darting back and forth, before noticing the glaring hole in Samir’s armor. “Holy shit! Are you okay?” He asked, a genuine concern in his voice. After he found his answer, Roscoe growled and rose his hand to his face.

“<This is Bravo Four to Bravo Actual! What’s the plan here?! Me and Bravo Six are pinned down behind a piece of rubble, can't see Bravo Five anywhere, over!>”
I don't know what I'm s'posed to do.

Cpl. Elsa "Valkyrie" Harewood/Alpha 3
Yaxha, Guatemala

The Sectoids opened fire to the operators, at least making a good amounts of suppressive fire, as Elsa rolled it into her mind. She of course, crouched behind the thick log as she saw on the corner that Miyuki pushed Wolfram down and opened fire at the direction. A subtle sound of someone died was heard, probably. Somewhat, too, perhaps.

Glancing at the entrance, it seemed that the situation won't be good enough if they keep hiding and not forwarding. UFO's been filled with loud reading, perhaps a sign of them to leave the place? Not a good sign for the team. Two XCOM operators, Bravo most likely, charged in to the courtyard. Big Sky offered the advice of the jungle, but noticing about the Seekers inside the jungle that is probably hiding there, not a good option. But quick thinking is a must now.

Elsa moved a little bit forward but not far into the courtyard of the temple, placing herself behind a rubble as she positioned her gun and aimed it at the direction of the explosion. She fired few rounds as a means to providing fire support. Not necessarily close enough to hit someone, but should be comes in handy until the rest went in as well, or splitting into two teams.

Corporal Vasily Seregyevich Ivanov - XCOM - Unit Charlie
Current Local Time (CST), 23/3/2014
Yaxha, Guatemala

"Valdez, where were Seif?" Vasily asked as he began to look around wildly. As he stabilized Seta he just realized that Seta was accompanied by Valdez and Seif. Why was Seif missing? Vasily already had an answer in mind but allowed the question to be spoken anyway." Valdez spoke something which erased all his uncertainties about the fate of his comrade. Vasily cringed and his fists tightened when he heard the news. While he did not know Seif as well as he did with the original squad, Seta, Nina, Stefanos and June, he was still a member of Charlie. He was a fellow comrade in arms. And now Vasily may never know how the man lived, only how he died.

Vasily turned on his radio and switched the channel to all units, "This is Charlie Two to all Units, Charlie Three, Squaddie Kaiden Seif is KIA." The report was short and brief. Of course he would want to investigate the cadevar himself, but right now he needed to attend to the living and not the dead. His eyes began to bounce glances, one gaze to Seta, one gaze to Valdez, and one gaze to the ensuring conflict at the temple. Vasily could feel a primal rage swell up in his chest. A rage which demanded revenge. Had he been a younger man, he would have followed this instinct and ran towards his comrades at the temple. But Vasily refused such primal command, his years tempered him to be the cautious medic he was today. "Alright Sexton, let's see how well your skills are." Vasily muttered to himself.

Kim Joon-Sook / "June"

June had been near the courtyard, on her way to back the others up in taking the UFO, when more sectoids emerged and started causing trouble. She saw a pair of them duck behind heavy rocks, but she couldn't get to them unless she got past the ones that were in the courtyard. The odds were against her, but she had the advantage of a grenade launcher. I finally get to use this thing, she thought to herself, ducking behind some rocks for cover as she switched from using her rifle to grenade launcher and then burst out from the cover and fired a grenade into the courtyard to support Samir's attack, targeting the five sectoids who were waiting to find a target. "Frag out," she announced, before hiding back behind a tree and hoping she did enough damage to keep from getting killed by the counter attack that would come.

Iskra Vasilyeva Ivanova - XCOM - Medical Staff
Current Local Time (PST), 23/3/2014
XCOM Base, Groom Lake, Nevada, United States of America

Iskra was cleaning up her station. Her shift had just ended and she looked forward to her free time. She excused earlier from their shift since a majority of the soldiers were off on a mission. Perhaps her superior wanted the most of the medical staff to be well-rested and wide-eyed when the causalities come in. To be honest with herself, she always expected causalities to happen with their current foe. Someone was bound to die on a mission at some point.

She shook her head of such thoughts and then reevaluated her station's cleanliness. She was much cleaner since the time she first came here, after all up until now she was used to working in battlefield conditions. She turned off her monitor and began walking back to the barracks to change her outfit. She would like to be in more comfortable clothing and take a shower before she actually starts her free time. She didn't really know what to do in her own free time. She remembered that she hadn't really explored the rest of the base but wondered which areas she wasn't allowed in.

She briskly walked back to the barracks. She took a quick shower and changed out of her medical tunic to her work uniform. She walked out of the barracks and began walking towards the mess hall. She would atleast have some food before she decided to go and explore.

ALIEN ACTIVITY

The Sectoids pressed their advantage, unleashing a barrage of superheated plasma into the jungle and towards the dirt road, making any advance by the humans difficult if not impractical, but despite the clear and present danger the XCOM soldiers were steadily advancing on the temple ruins and had already broken the first defensive line. Sectoid 09 had taken a hit courtesy of Sgt. Herrman and was limping back towards safer ground, briefly exposed, and with green-yellow blood oozing from the wound on its side. Sqd. Malik was the first to enter the courtyard, sprinting across open ground and slipping into cover just as plasma shot his way with Sqd. Franklin right at his heels. A painful graze but nothing too damning. Only a moment later the man was leaning out from his cover to lob a grenade, the powerful frag landing close to the feet of Sectoid 10. A loud bang sounded only seconds later. The alien had managed to get around the corner of the large stone block that it had been using for cover, thus avoiding the lethal shrapnel, but the concussive wave was more than enough to throw the pitiful creature to the dirt with nothing but open air between it and the jungle. Sectoid 09, still hobbling for cover, had lost its footing as well and had fallen in a similar fashion. Cpl. Harewood did not allow the opportunity to go to waste and opened fire. Sectoid 09 only just managed to roll away from the rounds impacting the ground beside it but Sectoid 10 took a bullet to its left arm. Sqd. Joon-Sook stepped up next, using the under-barrel attachment to her rifle to launch a 40mm grenade towards a small grouping of Sectoids. The aliens barely had time to react when the grenade squarely hit the chest of Sectoid 13, but instead of exploding and killing the alien outright the grenade simply knocked the alien off its feet before rolling away without so much as a sputter. It was a dud. For her trouble Sqd. Joon-Sook was immediately besieged with plasma fire from Sectoid 16 and Sectoid 17, the former managing to score a grazing hit as the woman ducked back into cover, burning through fabric and singeing a small patch of skin on the left thigh. Cpl. Cruise retaliated and scored a fatal hit against Sectoid 16 only to be suppressed by Sectoid 07.

As this battle raged something was moving in the jungles unnoticed. Stalking. Like a jaguar would its prey, but unlike the big cat this thing was most definitely not of this world. One was close to where Cpl. Konayama had fallen, watching, but remaining stealthed as to attack now would be in error given the high number of humans present. The second of the two, however, had found opportune prey. Cpl. Ivanov was busy tending to the injured Sgt. Setadewa with only Sqd. Valdez to watch his back. A calculated risk but one that the Seeker was willing to take. Seeker 02 seemingly materialized from nowhere, and before Sqd. Valdez could even confirm what he was seeing, much less react, a bolt of plasma had been sent into his shoulder, winging him and sending him down to the dirt in a spiral. With Cpl. Ivanov all but alone the squid-like machine rushed ahead with a fluid grace just as the medic turned to face it, a tentacle clinging around the rifle and preventing it from being raised all the while the other protrusions reached for the man’s throat.

Corporal Vasily Seregyevich Ivanov - XCOM - Unit Charlie
Current Local Time (CST), 23/3/2014
Yaxha, Guatemala

"Valdez!" Vasily yelled as he saw her fall to the ground due to the plasma bolt slamming into her shoulder. He turned his whole body towards the aggressor and lifted his UMP towards it. He instinctively pulled the trigger firing about three rounds at it before grabbed onto his UMP. Two rounds missed completely and only one managed to hit the Seeker. Vasily quickly realized that he wasn't going to get his SMG back and let go of it. He lept backwards turned on his radio, "This is Charile- Vasily, I'm under attack by one of those-" Before he could finish his statement, one of the tentacles managed to grab onto his left arm. He left his radio on and he used his right free hand to reach for his pistol. He managed to grab it but by the time it was aimed, the seeker's tentacles started to latch onto him. One tentacle grabbed onto his right hand, another grabbed onto his upper torso and the last one grabbed around his neck. "Ack!" Vasily gasped as the metal tentacle wrapped around his neck. "Ack... Ack... Der.... mo... ack!" The radio began to fill with Vasily's gasps for air as the seeker continued to strangle him.

They were probably too far anyway to help in anyway. Looks like I am going to be the next causality. I never thought that I would die like this- No, fuck that! I'm going to live forever! A person dies twice, once they die and once they are forgotten to time. And I will not be dying my first death today! Besides, I've already been forgotten. Vasily felt something fall down his cheek. Sasha... Illya... Zhuyun... Iskra.... Tsk. Some war hero I came out to be. I've served my country but it seems that my country has already forgotten me. I can't - no I refuse to die here now!

Cpl. Elsa "Valkyrie" Harewood/Alpha 3
Yaxha, Guatemala

"Yes!" whispered excitedly by Elsa to herself, as she managed to hit one of them Sectoids. To be fair, though, they are still plenty on the courtyard and inside the ship. The battle should be fine if continue normally like this, but they have the disadvantages in numbers and weaponry, not so much in skills considering the Sectoids they are facing right now....doesn't seems to possess advanced military training, though not necessarily insurgent-level or militia-level troops.

She was about to took some movements forward, when the radio called in. It was Sqd. Ivanov, one of the Charlie operator who were not on the field, it seems. Though it's possible. Apparently was attacked by something...that is able to avoid the rest. Seekers? A bad encounter indeed. She reported in to the radio to all units, "This is Alpha 3 to all units. Charlie at behind has been attacked by...something, possible vicinity of Seeker, over," which is actually fine for her to deflected the attack...if not for the fact there may be more than one Seeker.

Elsa turned her attentions on the direction of her previous suppressive fire. It hit someone, yes, but not enough to kill, if it is just a suppressive fire. Someone at the fray had been suppressed too, and the direction of the suppression is clear. Her rifle won't hit them from here, and there may be someone that is closely aiming the weapons on her and can shoot at her if she tries to go there. She aimed her gun again to the direction of the Sectoid she previously hit,and launched another suppressive fire.

This time however, it hit Sectoid 10 right on his...um, body, or face, as he slumped down from the hit. Lucky shot, she guessed. It was helped by the fact that Miyuki hit the Sectoid 09 and it left an open chance for her to hit Sectoid 10.

Corporal Ramirez

Fallen, and resting while the doctor worked on the wounded sergeant, Ramirez seemed to drift into a sleep as he tucked his rifle away. His shooting arm was starting to ache, a light throbbing as the adrenaline died away from the fight against the Strider.

The air suddenly materialised in front of him, around the medic about ten meters away where the corporal slumped against the tree. The soldier watched in horror as its metallic tentacles wrapped around the senior soldier, seeing his comrade choked and strangled by the alien.

It was as Miyuki described.

His left hand rose, the compact handgun jerking as he emptied his magazine into the creature. His aim was not the best with his secondary arm, and several shots missed the alien as it jerked. Ramirez gritted his teeth, pulling his SCAR up as he threw the handgun at the creature. His left hand supported the rifle as he willed his right to fire. A single shot rang out, the bullet smacking into the Seeker's tentacles as one was severed, but no more did Ramirez fire. The rifle jammed, and the corporal immediately went into his drills as the thumping on his arm began to subside with adrenaline pumping through his veins.

Magazine out, followed by three pulls of his charging handle, the corporal did not consider which tentacle was severed, only focusing on clearing the weapon before putting his magazine back in. He could only hope that the old man had enough breath in him, before setting the SCAR to a three-round burst, aiming for center mass and pulling the trigger.

"Thanks Kid. You good? We still got a UFO to ground."

"Not down yet!" Milky called out in response, lifting her rifle once more as she ducked from a bolt of plasma. In front of her, Roscoe and Samir were pinned by some fire, and Milky knew that precious time was being wasted. Her eyes widened when Samir took a hit, but the man still moving indicated that he was still alive.

Immediately, a second stage of Milky's physiology kicked in. It seemed weird for her that every time she seemed exhausted during her early days in the SFG while lagging behind the pack during her ten-click run, Milky always found a hidden font of stamina to push herself forward for the last kilometer. She never excelled during her early days, and it took plenty of extra training and abuse from her trainers to build up that mental strength to push away physical pain. She still felt them, and her body would continue to suffer the pain, but Milky always managed to complete her task before needing to be carried off to the medical tent. Somehow, she managed to pass Basic, and SFG Selection came and went easily enough.

The sniper rolled once, finding solid purchase on the ground as she eyed the two remaining Sectoids at the entrance.

"Bravo, advance!" Milky screamed as she locked her sights on a stumbling creature, affected by Samir's grenade before pumping a REAPER round into its body. The sniper rifle seemed to fizzle with the heat generated by the incendiary round, but Milky just slapped a gloved hand over the charging handle before the other Sectoid disappeared from her sight. They could not be pinned by just one more Sectoid which Milky had her eyes on, and surely more enemies waited beyond the entrance.

"Sergeant, I'll hold the front. Take everyone with you!" Milky cried to Herrman as she fired another bullet, the round blasting stone but not hitting alien.

Squaddie Anselmo Zavala- Charlie Six
Yaxha, Guatemala

Anselmo took cover on a tree that was next to June.He saw the grenade knock the Sectoid on it's back and her getting hit. "June are you okay? He asked her and looked towards the Sectoid on the ground He thought about what to do and he decided to finish what June started. Anselmo could see the Sectoid on the ground and it's was sticking out from it's cover. Anselmo took aim and remembered what Vasto taught him. Anselmo took several shoots at the prone Sectoid and hoped that one of his shoot would land a hit.

ALIEN ACTIVITY

The aliens were being pushed back deeper into the temple courtyard. Sectoid 09 and Sectoid 10 were caught in crossfire and quickly eliminated all the while Sectoid 13 was being shot at by Sqd. Zavala. The alien, still in the process of scrambling to its feet, should have been an easy target, but its luck held out as Sectoid 07 countered the human’s attack with one of its own, a burst of superheated plasma catching Zavala’s DMR and melting through the barrel. The man quickly dropped the ruined weapon before it could burn his hands. Sectoid 07 then pressed its attack, failing to score a hit but forcing Zavala to duck down into cover lest he lose his head. Sectoid 13 was back to its feet and repositioning itself with Sectoid 11 and Sectoid 12 in tow, but as they moved the three aliens were caught in the sights of Cpl. Konayama who took a reactionary shot, scoring a fatal hit against Sectoid 12 and causing enough panic amongst the others to make them reconsider their movement. With the main gate cleared of hostiles the XCOM soldiers could begin cutting their way deeper into the courtyard and, ultimately, towards the UFO. Sectoid 17 was still on overwatch from its perch atop the temple ruins; Sectoid 11 and Sectoid 13 were now split from Sectoid 14 and Sectoid 15; the final four Sectoids guarding the courtyard exit were now moving up to assist but were careful in doing so. Sectoid 07 stood its ground near the courtyard’s center in less than prime cover with Sectoid 02 supporting with a Mind Merge a little ways back in more suitable shelter.

Back in the jungle Seeker 02 was attempting to strangle Cpl. Ivanov but had overlooked Cpl. Ramirez, losing a tentacle for its lack of observation. The severed limb freed the rifle of the combat medic but the others remained firm where they held. Seeker 02 turned its “head” to face Ramirez, plasma charging where its mouth should be and intending to kill the interfering human who was once more taking aim. They both fired at the same moment. The bullet from the human rifle reached first, hitting the Seeker in the side and ricocheting from its armored form with a jagged gash to mark its path. The blow wasn’t fatal, far from it, but had deflected the Seeker’s body enough to divert its aim. Cpl. Ramirez was hit on his right side as opposed to dead center. Severe but not immediately fatal. The soldier went limp as all strength left his body and he could only watch with blurry vision as the Seeker readied itself for one more shot..

Corporal Shi "Charlie" Ai N, Alpha 2
Yaxha, Guatemala

Before the recon could report their findings, the team found themselves in another firefight. Him and the Recon from Bravo who went by the nickname "Twinkle Toes" were stuck near the front, unable to really assist with the situation. Too far to help friendlies, but not quite close enough to engage the Sectoids effectively. However it wasn't long before a decent number of the Sectoids had been cut down, allowing the two Recons to advance into the courtyard. With the approach cleared, the two XCOM soldiers took up positions near the tall stone columns dotting the main path into towards the temple. Like the Sectoid from before, the Sectoid that courageously stood its ground at the center of the courtyard had some kind of bright orange hue coming from its head. Shi turned to the Irishman and pointed at Secoid 17 above, and gave it a thumbs down motion. He wasn't too likely to hit him, but it would be distraction enough to keep it from raining down plasma fire on them. Meanwhile Shi took his window and turned out of cover, firing full auto on the mind melded Sectoid 07 who was laying down suppressive fire on someone further in the forest.

Corporal Vasily Seregyevich Ivanov - XCOM - Unit Charlie
Current Local Time (CST), 23/3/2014
Yaxha, Guatemala

"Pfft!" Vasily grunted as the Seeker's tentacle loosened its grip around his shooting hand. He was surprised by Corporal Ramirez's sudden attack on the Seeker. It was something that he did not expect considering Ramirez's condition. Regardless when the seeker then shot Ramirez' and was about to fire again, Vasily wasn't going to let this chance slip by. He put whatever remaining breath in him to preform the following actions. He wrestled with his restrained left hand and pulled the Seeker close to him using it's tentacle. Once it was close, he looked for the socket where the missing tentacle was and jammed his pistol into it, pointing upwards towards the body. "Спокойной ночи милый!" (Translation: Good Night Sweetheart). He pulled the trigger and emptied his pistol into the Seeker. Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Click! Click! Click! The Seeker spasmed from the initial assault of the pistol. Its remaining grip over Vasily loosened and its elongated head turned to face him.

Once he realized that he was out of ammo, he flipped the pistol so that his hand held the barrel of the gun. He could feel the heat burning his gloved hand but did his best to ignore the pain. He proceeded to bludgeon the Seeker with his empty pistol until it dropped. Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! Wham! The Seeker began to collapse on the ground as Vasily continued bludgeoning it to death. "Приходи один! К черту со мной еще раз!" (Translation: Come on! Fuck with me again!) Wham! Wham! Wham! When it was close enough to the ground, Vasily used his foot to kick it away from him and Ramirez. Realizing the opportunity, Vasily ran over to his dropped SMG and picked it up and aimed it at the Seeker which was collapsed on the ground. Vasily pulled the trigger and fired a few rounds at the grounded Seeker.

Samir 'Eight Ball' Malik. AKA - 'Bravo 6'
Yaxha, Guatemala

“Holy shit! Are you okay?”

"Vest took the round. I'm good" Samir shouted over the cacophony of explosions and gunfire that had rippled through the jungle, whilst his grenade had failed to do any devastating damage, it did manage to throw the enemy off guard and cause at least one casualty which had relieved the fire on their position by a margin, still the odd plasma round shaved off the edges of the rock little by little. Bravo had begun to advance on the besieged courtyard under the ever watchful eye of Milky and several explosions signified the entrance of Charlie and Alpha from the flanks, Samir leaned from the rock to catch a quick glance at the battle unfolding and to assess their next moves, yet again another bout of plasma forced him back into a safe position.

"Stone pillars...2-o'clock, give me some covering fire and i'll make a break for them. Once i'm there i'll cover you up and we can hit them in the side, gets us a good sightline to the UFO too....got it?" Samir leaned in and tapped Roscoes helmet a couple of times to ensure his attention was kept.

"On my mark...3...2...1...Mark!"
Yo, that's mad.

Squaddie Anselmo Zavala- Charlie Six

"Frack", Anselmo said as he is being suppressed and he pulls out his pistol. Well at least I managed to hit the thing before my DMR was melted, he thought to himself. He sees the plasma go past his cover and continues to take cover behind the tree. He got on his comms and said,"This Charlie Six, I am being suppressed and my weapon had been melted". "Anyone have a spare weapon I can use? That was when he noticed that someone had fire on the Sectoid that was suppressed. He would take a shot at the Sectoid as soon as he could and if it move he would shoot it with his pistol.

Sergeant Wolfram Herrman, Bravo-1
Yaxha, Guatemala

And just like that, Wolfram thought, shit started going downhill. No one might've died, and they may have been winning the fight, but people were becoming independent. When people started losing unit cohesion that's when accidents happened, either friendly fire or lost commands it was never good. But with the rapid casualties that XCOM was dealing to the aliens. Though Roscoe did have a point, and from his location beside Konayama, he spotted himself a plan

<Bravo-Actual to Bravo. We push up and reconvene at the entrance, Ramirez and Jacobbsen, if you're still up lay down suppressing on anything that looks like it could be trouble! Konayama keep capping anything that pops their head up! Malik, Franklin! On my Mark we haul ass up the road! Our goal is that big fucking tree that got knocked down, we'll move from there! If anyone from Charlie wants to come with you're free to either do so or start laying down suppressing fire!> With that said Wolfram shifted himself into a better position to start an outright sprint. Something he was rather good at, with his recent best at a hundred meters in roughly nine seconds. Despite his age he was still a very fit person, Hell he was in better shape than most twenty year olds.

<3! 2! 1! Mark!> And with his own message sent, Wolfram tore ass down the road.

Kim Joon-Sook / "June"

June expected the grenade to at the least scatter the sectoids and make them easier targets, who would be able to be picked off in their panic. And she expected to at least hurt one or two of them with the grenade. But what she got was something unexpected: a dud of a grenade. "You've gotta be fucking kidding me," she said calmly, and then the sectoids that she had hit returned fire. She quickly leaped out of the way, but she was strong and not fast. "Fuck," she muttered under her breath, as the plasma grazed her leg and burnt through her uniform. She tried not to show the pain that she was in, because that would be a sign of weakness. Anselmo asked if she was okay, but she just gritted her teeth and nodded. "I'm fine, focus on the enemy," she said, and then she sat up and fired a few rifle shots at sectoid number 15 before the pain in her leg forced her to flop backwards, onto her back. Finally breaking the illusion that she wasn't in pain, she cried out. "I'm down for now, my left thigh got hit by one of those fuckers," she announced over radio. "I think I can keep fighting... Just give me a minute."

Sergeant Barb, John K
Yaxha, Guatemala
March 23, 2014.

No plan survived first contact with the enemy; it was mostly presented as a joke but it was the kind of dark joke that someone with a warped sense of humor from watching too many plans become the first casualty of a battle followed shortly by a real person. The plan was dead on arrival and several people had been injured but nobody had yet been killed which was fortunate. Members of Bravo team were moving into the court yard slowly and his own Team was fanning out around the outskirts involved in a fire from cover fight with the sectoids and was slowly picking them off. Barbs had taken cover behind one of the large upright stones by the gate, tall enough to cover most of his torso and wide enough to keep him shielded from attacks coming from almost anywhere in front of him it was essentially a perfect place for him to set up his LMG on its bipod and provide cover fire where needed. The only problem was he was in a poor position to use the weapon's sights so he judged his shooting by los, firing toward any enemies who got brave or stupid enough to leave cover with no real accuracy but machine guns weren't meant for snipers anyway.

He flashed Wolfram a thumbs up and stopped firing to allow him to sprint past with his other squaddie and watched for any spots in the fighting where he might be needed, that's when he saw four more sectoids entering the fray from higher up the temple. He could fire at them with the machine gun but accuracy was a problem and at the range he might not even be effective at suppressing or slowing them down but he did have a weapon that could be used to take them out. The sergeant dropped to one knee and clipped the sling holding his rocket launcher in place; after a quick safety check he armed the weapon and flipped up the sites to take aim for the cluster of sectoids that were making their way into battle - they wouldn't ave any idea what just hit them. XCom had picked a variant of the AT-4 CS anti armor rocket launcher for use in the field - because it had a contained backblast unlike a typical rocket this one could be fired from indoors where most rockets and rpgs would kill their crew in such a situation. The particular warhead was an all new High Explosive Dual Purpose Warhead that could perform anti-building and anti-armor operations as well as of course anti-personnel.

Taking aim with the rocket he lined up a clear shot somewhere to the front of the second alien and then let a rip, <"Fire in the hole! Get your heads down grunts!">

The rocket left the launcher faster than the naked eye could even perceive it was there and accelerated to almost the speed of sound within half a second. Other than the sound of the burst the alien targets would hear a thud as the rocket hit the wet and rocky soil near the stairs of the temple before its delayed fuse set off an explosive every bit as powerful as the one Barbs had used to destroy the antenna earlier sending out a large shockwave along with chunks of rock and wood and roots in dozens of feet in in every direction from the central point of the detonation. If any of them survived Barbs would be mildly impressed.

Armoury, Groom Lake
Nehir “Bolts” Fahri

With the team fighting in the Guatemalan jungles, shedding blood and sweat as they traded blows with their foe, the Engineering Lab felt subdued. Coming in from the workshop, her hands as covered in grease and dirt as always, Nehir immediately felt the uneasy silence hanging over the room. Each engineer was hunched over their workstation, their eyes fixated rigidly in front of them, as if interacting with their fellows would reveal how powerless they felt, stuck half a continent away as their comrades risked their lives on their behalf. It was a horrible feeling. To sit idle and wallow in self-doubt as your creations were put to the test, the consequences of failure weighing incessantly on your mind.

One man yawned loudly from his station, subconsciously rubbing his eyes as he fought against fatigue. Nehir’s eyes narrowed momentarily before she shook her head, a disbelieving smile spread across her lips. The engineer didn’t even notice her moving towards his desk until she slapped her hand onto the small of his back, causing the older man to nearly jump out of his skin in surprise.

“How’s it going Nathan?”

“Nehir!” The man smiled sheepishly at his initial shock, “Fine, just fine – lots of work to keep myself busy as always.”

“Mmhm.” Nehir nodded simply, smirking slightly as she did so. “Would that happen to include the vibe tests from the last alloy simulant?”

Nathan scrunched his eyes, realising that he’d been caught out. “On top of it, a hundred-and-ten percent.” Nehir couldn’t help but laugh in response, seeing her friend’s mind whir as he sought how to squeeze the forgotten test time into his schedule.

“Glad to hear it. So we should get the resonance shift up to 0dB by, I don’t know, tonight?” That seemed to hit him like a physical blow, only causing Nehir’s mischievous grin to widen.

Nathan shot her an incredulous look. “Oh come on, by toni –“ The man paused midsentence as he noticed Nehir’s smirk failing to disappear. Slowly, realisation washed over Nathan as he lifted his hands to his temples. “But I told you that I’ll have it done by tonight.”

“Mmhm. Three days ago, too.” Nathan sighed in defeat, knowing that he’d backed himself into a corner, and feeling more than a little bit embarrassed that the test had completely slipped his mind. Before he could apologise, Nehir offered him a friendly punch on the shoulder. “You better get started then, sadiq. I’m headed off to get lunch – seeing as you’re going to be here for a while, want me to grab you something?”

Nathan shot her a thankful nod as Nehir began to make her way out of the lab towards the mess hall. “A nice burger if they’re serving it!” He called out from across the room.
