That's the thing, though: "Empire" outranks "Kingdom", thus making Hungary, Morhemia, and Hrvatska Gloria all part of the Austrian Empire.

A better example of a leader ruling two countries that are distinct from each other would be Spain and the HRE, as both are empire-level titles that were once held by the same person, although they were treated differently in diplomacy. Another good example would be Normandy and England, as they were for a long time ruled by the same people despite England being independent and Normandy being a vassal to France.

Only under the modern defective definition of 'empire'. I suggest James Viscount Bryce's The Theory of the Medieval Empire

With Hungary more or less subordinated to Austria.

You can even see it in the name. It's not Hungary-Austria, it's Austria-Hungary.

I dont get how Wanxie can go from being a libertarian paradise to a francophonic authoritarian monarchy in under 20 years, and how the Mexican upper class is just butterflied away by the power of wank, and the unruly Mexican peasant class is less pissy than IRL.

If OP is going to eank himself till the cows come home yet not allow an alternate royal dynasty to rule Italy that even existed IRL, I dont know if I even want to finish my app.
The interregnum is over- I am once again the OP of the Land of the Free RP

I am a Radical Centro-Transhumanist and a National Globalist.

But Greece officially holds the title, while Italy has the original ethnicity.

If you wanna be technical, Austria can't claim to be the Roman Empire because they destroyed the title of Holy Roman Empire (The Western Roman Empire) and replaced it with the Austrian Empire. By dissolving the HRE title, they lost their claim to being Romans.

As much as I disagree, I think it's time we revert back to using this thread as the OOC for Dixie's Triumph... if you want to start a new a discussion thread I'd be happy to continue there...

Well, the title itself shouldn't have existed. The Pope had no right to crown Charlemagne or any of its successors.

But yeah, this is a roleplay. Let's keep this thread for the roleplay.

Size and Quality of Military: 590000 soldiers (Out of a population of roughly 29,500,000) serve in the Italian army, and are generally separated into ethnic squads of North Italians, South Italians, Sardinians, and Griko groups, although officers of these squads are proficient in the Lazio-Tuscan language, specifically Florentine, which they use to communicate amongst each other, and which the government of Italy uses for official purposes. Although the military is modern, well-equipped, and well-trained, the ethnic tensions between Sardinians and South Italians, as well between the Griko and the North Italians over whom the crown represents more, leaves the military disorganized, with each ethnic group acting on their own command and often failing to properly coordinate with their rival groups.

History of Nation: In 1861, the Kingdom of Italy was formed by the previous lords of Sardinia by a process of military conquest. The rule was not nearly as troublesome as it might've been, as the Italians had long sought unification, and having a leader to finally bring them to such a thing caused wide rejoicing across the entirety of the peninsula. By 1863, a sense of order had been properly established, although old ethnic alliances and rivalries were still present. In 1863, a man by the name of Giacomo Paleologo-Oriundi was appointed as a cultural minister to the king. Giacomo was a wealthy individual who professed extreme knowledge of the styling of the Renaissance, including the art and customs of the time. As a celebrated scholar of the field, Giacomo found his place due to a desire to restore what was seen as the peak of Italian wealth and influence in the world. He was hired to find out what was right to do, what was wrong to do, how and why ethnic tensions existed between Italians at the root, and how to dispose of them.

It worked. Giacomo served faithfully, at least by daylight. By night, he worked with the enemies of the Sardinians, specifically the old nobility of the Two Sicilies, to plan a coup. Each stage was planned meticulously and carefully, taking into account whatever possible factors may occur. There was much disagreement, exchange of promises, and re-planning, but after a total year almost to the day, Giacomo launched his coup and took the throne of Italy with his contingent of loyal, bribed, and shady guardsmen planted around the palace. Sicilian and Neapolitan officials were quick to dismiss the coup as beneficial to the non-Sardinian population of Italy, claiming that a dynasty not rooted in the Germanic enemies of Italy and without pre-existing spite for certain groups would be more favorable to one that had clear bias towards their own people. A full diplomatic effort was made throughout the kingdom to secure the loyalty of local lords, and promises were carried out as titles were redistributed, rewards and bribes given from the treasury, and simple propaganda, the new king came to be accepted. After all, who better to restore the glory of Italy than the inheritor of Rome?

Italy jumped in to help Prussia during their war with Austria. Although the war was overall a failure, the Italian pressure on Austria from the South, as well as a greater preparedness and planning, aided Italy in not collapsing in the same way their German friends had. In Italian history, the war is generally considered a success, as it wrenched Venice from the Austrian grasp they once held, setting up Italy for a potential riconquista, as well as reclaiming the Iron Crown of Lombardy as part of the peace, in recognition of the effort Italy had put forth. Despite what would be played up as a huge victory to the Italian nation, outside of Italy the Alpine front of the war was seen more as a token effort than anything, and Italy's former positive relations with France ensured that the Italians did not suffer the same fate as Prussia for this 'token effort'. Giacomo donned the crown the day after the peace was put into place, declaring himself henceforth legitimized by the crown as old as the fall of Rome itself, and by being descended from Roman emperors, he stated this meant he had reclaimed Italy for the Romans at last, and for the true Romans, the Italians, rather than the false Austrians. This started a trend wherein Giacomo properly began to reintroduce Latin culture to Italy, replacing the Austrian architects with Italian ones specializing in Romanesque and Renaissance architecture, and he began the construction of a palace within Rome to rival any built by the princes of Italy in all years past. Apart from the restoration of the Lombard Crown to the Italians, this palace was also built in celebration of the marriage, and soon child, that Giacomo found himself joyous to proclaim to his subjects.

This idea of riconquista, Italian nationalism, and Roman heritage became more powerful. Giacomo took advantage of the kingdom's being officially secular to declare a reconquest of Rome, through popular means rather than military. For four years, the message of the Kingdom of Italy was spread to the people of Rome through a mixture of spies, planted criers, and sympathizers. In 1870, a vote was held amongst the citizens of Rome, officially sponsored by the Italian government, over whether the Pope or Italy should be the holder of the city. The response was overwhelmingly in favor of Italy, although the Papal grasp on the city did not cease. Giacomo, realizing the potential for intervention from France. Instead, Giacomo would publish the results and buy out slots in foreign news to fill the results in. Seeing the success present, his attention would turn to Venice, where a similar plan would take place. Over these four years, things began to stagnate in Italy. Peace and unity was finally becoming a reality as old ethnic tensions died down in most aspects of civilian life, as the new subjects grew accustomed to a unified Italy and the new generation had known nothing else. Giacomo sponsored a meeting between the nobility of Sardinia and Naples, and under heavy guard, he asked the two to kindly make up. Although the meeting started with shouts, insults, and almost violence, the meeting, which lasted a week, ended with the two putting aside their old rivalries for the betterment of the Italian state. Despite this, however, military officers from these respective groups still demonstrate a lack of cooperation with each other.

By 1874, the referendum in Venice had begun. Italy, as usual, had used plants and spies to hold the votes, promising each individual that they would be incognito, but the results would reach the world around. Once more, the vote showed support for the Kingdom of Italy over Austrian lordship, and Italy once more published the results anywhere the officials could find. To Giacomo, this was a sign of progress, a sign of good things to come. Seeing his only child, his daughter Alessandra, grown old enough to be educated, he took the next decade to educate her. For the past five years, a combination of her mother and the king's council had been doing the job, although from age ten onward he would be the only tutor she would receive. He shared with her his vision, his idea of what Italy, the Roman Empire reborn, should be. He told her that although Greece held the title of Byzantium, she was the heir to the real Romans, the dynasty that had died in Greece and barely survived in Italy only through the connection of a bastard. The next ten years were filled with this rhetoric, and Alessandra was educated on the classics. Latin, Greek, history, architecture, Renaissance art, the whole lot. She was to be what Giacomo pictured as the perfect Roman girl, and she would be the queen in due time.

In 1880, Giacomo abdicated to his 14-year-old daughter who, by popular idea, was roughly of age. He acted as her regent until she turned 16, although he stated the purpose of his abdication was simply that he was getting too old, and wanted to enjoy the remainder of his life. In 1882, Alessandra took power officially. During her coronation speech, she assured teh whole of Italy that she would keep up her father's legacy, and reaffirmed the popular support in Venice and Rome for unification. She has not done much militarily, although in her 3 brief years of independent rule, she has proven herself a major sponsor of the arts, founding a new academy in Florence dedicated to folk poetry, global literature, and of course Italian regional painting styles. Despite the relative peace and inaction during her brief period of rulership, she promises everyone that, when the time is right, Italy shall see an end to its struggles, and its people shall be united at last.

I have to ask, are you Italian IRL?

Not born in Italy.

Neither was I, but I meant by descent. I'm more Italian by descent than anything else, although I am German as well.

I'm mostly Romanian, although with some German origins, and my German origins are somewhat evenly split between Transylvanian Saxons, and Austrians.

The German side of my family has quite some history with Austria and later Austria-Hungary.
I'm a Romanian, a vampire, an anime enthusiast and a roleplayer.

My great grandpa, as I had mentioned on the other thread, owned land near Slutsk. Modern Belarus. Of course, there's probably lots of mixing between the Russians, Belarusians, and Kazakhs in my line.

Yeah, I understood that you had origins in the Russian Empire, but I never realized that from modern Belarus.

Interesting.
