But how viable of a source of food is meat to actually sustain a large population? If you over-hunt, your supply will exponentially decrease until it reaches extinction.

True. Well what other nations are struggling internally that no one cares to invade. I kinda want to be the nation with stuff that needs to be done internally.

I feel like, between Montserrat, New Ireland, and the usual USA, CSA, and British colonies... this world must have an insanely powerful Irish diaspora. Like, even more insanely powerful than the one in real life was.

That breaks at the Franks. The Pope had no right to crown Charlemagne.

Italian and Romanian are both Romance languages, and despite being like 2 degrees of separation from each other, they share a lot, I'd say more than Italian and Spanish do.

They do. Italian is the closest Romance language to the Romanian group of Eastern Romance.

So although I can't speak Italian, I can read and understand most of it. Enough for me to understand that Wikipedia page.

Of course, there are some words I don't understand, but I can assume their meaning based on the rest.

I really should learn Italian sometime.

Well, I can't finish the app unless I get confirmation over whether or not capture of the Papal States, and of Venice, are possible. Historically, both held referendums that led to them being annexed by Italy, as this was a period of Italian nationalism whereby the popular support among Italians was in favor of the kingdom, even when against the Pope himself.

I could attempt something similar, setting up such votes at the correct historical dates through nonmilitary means.

I can speak and read and write.

I can say some things, like asking for directions or for food, but that's where my knowledge of Italian stops.

I've been focusing on German, and I've recently started to more or less learn Russian.

German can be considered my second native language, since I've been practically learning it as a native language ever since I was little.

As for Russian, I can read and write their alphabet, and for now, say simple things.

I can read it too, more or less. Russian Cyrillic, occasional Moldavian Cyrillic, and some of the letters of the old Romanian Cyrillic.

As a roleplaying idea, I like it. It would be really interesting to have an Italy like that, but it would be pretty ironic.

Size and Quality of Military: Small and low quality. The military of Joseon has been largely ignored ever since the mid 17th century when the Joseon General Court decided to demilitarize and use existing weapons. Minor attempt to modernize the Joseon military was small scaled and only affected the capital area.
History of Nation:
In 1863, King Gojong took the throne but due to his young age, his father, Heungseon Daewongun, ruled for him as regent until Gojong reached adulthood. While the Regent reformed Joseon politics to restore the royal authorities and lowered tax burdens on the peasants and the middle class, he enforced isolationist beliefs and closed Joseon to foreign traders except to the Qings. He also pursued anti-Christian policies and continued the persecutions of Catholics of both native and foreign origin. His isolationism and anti-Catholic policies did saw clashes with France, which the country justified the anti-Catholic persecutions for their campaign against Joseon in 1866. In 1871, Joseon also saw a clash with the Confederate States of America/France/Great Britain (whichever works) which forced Joseon to open their ports to foreign trade.

In 1873, King Gojong announced his rule and planned to adopt "Enlightenment policies" to strengthen Joseon after a more powerful Japan forced Joseon to sign the Treaty of Ganghwa in 1876 which granted Japan more powers in trade with Joseon compared to European powers. In 1881, Joseon established an elite military unit called the Byeolgigun which uses contemporary weapons in contrast to the outdated muskets and arrows used by regular Joseon soldiers. The new unit was given high pay and priviledge which didn't bode well with the regular soldiers. In 1882, the old guard soldiers launched a coup which only ended with Qing and Japanese involvement. To ensure that Joseon will remain independent, Gojong looked into new options for allies. So far his options were limited. The Conservative factions favored continuing ties with the Qing Empire, the moderates lead by Queen Min supported opening ties with Russia, and the Enlightenment faction was split between France and Japan; most of these countries have imperial stake in Joseon. In Gojong's mind, there must be an ally that Joseon could count on that could help modernize the country.

Any nations other than the US willing to support the fledgling empire in the Caribbean? I'd think France and Spain might... ignoring both countries significant involvement with the Irish diaspora, it would serve as a way to hit at their respective enemies; Britain for France and the CSA for Spain.

I do believe the United States or the CSA are in no position to confirm the Monroe-doctrine.
