So what do you plan to do with your Mechanist City?

Besides expanding my city and building new stuff (a wall would likely be my first priority), I also plan to send a delegation to Ba Sing Se asking the Earth King/Grand Secretariat for a land grant around the northern Earth Kingdom, or at least a stretch of land leading to the coast so I can build a port city. If I can't get that, I might go on the war path to get additional land. I can fight other Earth nations without Ba Sing Se coming down on me, right?

That's why in the OP page, all the bad things happen to the Fire Nation. To bring some semblance of balance. I stated above about my idea of a con so you can look at that.

It would be interesting to have a colony led by one of her close friends so go ahead on that.

Ok I will app as one of the friends.

I was thinking the Hu Xin Provinces. They are along the West Coast of the earth kingdom which I'm sure are important to the Fire Nation but don't have much information on them allowing me to really RP resources and all the things in the RP to make it my own. Also I imagine that being a staging point for the Fire Nation while being something the Earth Kingdoms dislike.

Or I can take Yu Dao, another tense area.

If you RP as the Hu Xin then you would use the standard Fire Nation Colony. Or you could be Yu Dao, although I think someone else asked for that one.

Ok, I have just finished my App. I was unsure for Pros and Cons, maybe All ground based Infantry are allowed +1 to upgrades and all defenses cost 1.5 the normal cost because of how much of a military state it is.

Population (Be realistic): 35,000
Nation and Location: The Kingdom of Sturnguard (located along the south eastern mountain range and peninsula in the Earth kingdom.)
Primary Bending Ability: Earth with some water
Cultural Practices and History: When the Fire Nation first attack tens of thousands of Earth Kingdom refugees fled east to the perceived protection of the larger cities. However, the infrastructure did not exist for such an influx and many thousands began a mass exodus east towards the Eastern Air temple. Along the sojourn many fell to famine and disease and many more splintered from the main group to make their new homes among the mountain ranges. In the end only 15,000 made it to the far eastern port and the first ships departed toward their last hope for peace. It would not be their salvation as many had hoped, but rather their damnation.

The first few refugees arrived on quickly constructed makeshift vessels that were shattered against the storm tossed shores and many hundreds fell beneath the waves to a watery death. It was the ship Sturnguard that finally made it to the island, and to the horror. Even in the early evening twilight the spotter could see the billowing pillars of smoke that wafted high into the cloud layer and left the stench of soot and death in the air. Before another word could be had ships of the Fire Nation descended upon them and their make shift craft was no match for the mighty vessel of steel and fire. The crew was captured and tortured and brought to the mainland. However, before they arrived on shore the captain managed to jump over board. He was discovered by a small Southern Water Tribe scout vessel that had been looking for survivors from the Air Nomads.

The man informed them that he was Merrik Borje the captain of the Sturnguard and that he had to warn his people of the impending attack upon them. The Water Tribe members diverted from their mission and took him to Passkal Landing where the camp had been. When they arrived all that was left was death and the shattered remains of his people. For the next two weeks they sailed up and down the coast looking for any sign of survivors. In the end 300 were found and during a mass evacuation brought back to the Southern Water Tribes home.

For the next two years they waited training and preparing for their revenge. Merrik took on the mantel of Lord Primarch and on the eve of the second anniversary of the slaughter he lead a combined force of 300 Water Tribesmen and Refugees to retake their land. Over the next three weeks every trace of the Fire Nations outpost and colonies was reduced to ash and cinder, their bodies stuck upon posts that lined the roads by the thousands. For his victory over the Fire Nation he was given a specially crafted battleaxe by the Water Tribe. Furies Banishing was created with a lock of the greatest of the Southern Water Tribes Benders hair inside the hilt. With this he would have his revenge.

The Fire Nation would not have its people slaughtered and quickly sent a massive task force to snuff out Merriks band. Merrik and his forces began a vast pilgrimage into the mountains hoping to recruit members of his way ward people. However, they had years ago been fractured into 6 different tribes. To gain their trust and their blade he would have to travel to each of them and prove his worth.
A test of strength, a test of knowledges, a test of patients, a test of justice, a test of flight, and a test of loyalty. In the end he would prove victorious in all and turned each of the tribes’ rulers into his 6 Primarchs. With his new army at his command he was approached by a woman of the Fire Nation.

Her name was Langen and she was a powerful fire bender. She approached him disgusted by what the Fire Nation had done to his people and offered to help him in his revenge. She had become disenchanted by Fire Lord Sozin calling him a traitor for what he had done to the previous Avatar. She did not approach him empty handed however, for she offered him a shield forged by flames made by her own hand, the Severance. Merrik accepted her offer for assistance and she became the commander of the 7th Legion brining the total number of his army to 7734.

As the Fire Nations army disembarked from their ships they met not a small band of rebels, but rather an army of thousands. The battle would rage for 7 days and 7 nights. The mighty fire bender igniting the oxygen of her country men inside the lungs, water benders ripping the liquids from their insides and Earth benders tearing out the ground from under their very feet. Through it all none were as devastating as the Lord Primarch Merrik and Furies Banishing. He single handedly slaughtered over a thousand men and benders a like with all of his hate and pride thrown into every blow as they crashed against his Legions shield walls only to be cut down by well-placed bending and javelins. Finally, on the 7th day he stood before the General himself.

The General fought with great zeal and fury, his fire bending unsurpassed by any of his peers. All the while Merrik deflected blows against him with his shield and armor and on the 7th hour he struck the General down with a mighty blow of Furries Banishing. The general died upon his blade and his executive officer surrendered soon after. Merrik would have been completely justified to end the Fire Nations army then and there but what Merrik saw was no longer an army, but a broken people. Shattered against his might and left to live out as empty husks of men. He sent them back in defeat, a fate far worse than death for them.

The Fire Lord was furious at their loss to a band of refugees and upstarts but the diverted forces had already resulted in far too many dead and far too much time wasted. He decided to call off all further offensives in the region until the southern Water Tribe could be dealt with.

Over the next few years 7 great cities were erected throughout the eastern mountain ranges of the Earth Kingdom. Under Merriks rule the would grow and prosper and wage an unending war against the Fire Nation helping to keep their forces at bay in the Earth Kingdom and Southern Water Tribe. Over time however Lord Primarch Merrik would perish with age as all men do. He would name his wife Langen to be his successor for her meritorious deeds both in battle and in life. While most of the Primarchs accepted her the children of two of them though Merrik a traitor for putting a fire bender in charge of the Kingdom. They launched an attack in the night and sparked a civil war that would rate for 20 years. In the end the Kingdom was fractured once again and the 7 cities became the 7 Kingdom.

To this day they have remained fractured but as word of a ceasefire falls upon the world a new Lord Primarch name Horran has decided that the time is right to rebuild the long shattered tribes and forge their own destiny in this ever changing world.

OP, do you think we could add some air units to this RP? Not only would the Fire Nation likely have air balloons from the Mechanist, but I imagine the Northern Air Temple would also have some, though not as many as the Fire Nation. The Fire Nation may also have airships/zeppelins.

If I remember Sokka gave the idea to the mechanist about the Hot Air Balloon, but I can't remember.

I have two and perhaps a con

1. Beetle Breeders: The Rhinoceros Beetles of the Si Wong have been breed as beast of burden and have became a national animal as many have been started to been bred as cavalry for their tough carapace and the ability to fly into the enemy. Cavalry cost less by 30%

2. People of the Desert: The Si Wong is the largest and direst desert on the planet, to live here is a miracle in of itself. All ground troops get free Ranger Training

Con

Landlocked Philosophy: The Kingdom is landlocked and cannot build ports or ships until they reach it and they must pay an extra 50% for ships if they have the ability to do so.

I'm planning to have all perks for the smaller ESTABLISHED factions to be on the sixth month mark. This way I can see their actions in the IC and give me more material to work with. The issue with perks that I saw in Mass Effect is that everyone wants them and puts pressure on me look into their information and due it for everyone. I don't want to do it for you because then I have to do it for the next person, so on and so forth. So it will be easier for me to do it all at once when I know everyone.

Faction: Fire Nation Colony
Leader: Mai
Population: 300,000
Nation and Location: Hu Xin Provinces | along the west coast of the Earth Kingdom continent on the Mo Ce Sea
Primary Bending Ability: Firebending
Cultural Practices and History: The Hu Xin provinces are conquered territory as a result of Prince Azulon's conquest. It contains locations such as Village Resort, the abandoned city of Taku, Seedy Merchants Pier, and Yon Rha's village (due to it being a minor settlement). The provinces are an assortment of histories. mostly of Earth Kingdom origin but now generally resemble the culture of the Fire Nation. Once the new Fire Lord Azula began her reign, the provinces were no doubt of importance due to location and possible instability. Though not the oldest of colonies under the Fire Nation, discrepancies often existed amongst citizens of the Fire Nation and displaced former citizens of the Earth Kingdoms. As of now, Hu Xin is under the direct command of Mai, close friend to Fire Lord Azula. Mai has yet to make dramatic changes to the provinces, primarily for fear of upsetting the balance of the colonies themselves. Thus far plans for building of new infrastructure have begin in Taku under direction of Governor Mai to "cleanse the land."
Individual locations in these provinces have their own sorted history that contribute to Hu Xin, but as a whole have not affected one another much beyond influence of the Avatar and overall Fire Nation rule/jurisdiction.

1 actualy city by the RP standards, the others are basically small ports and merchant villages. 4 actual locations, I planned on having Mai operate out of Taku, which is undergoing rebuilding and devotion of most of my free resources.

Faction: 四海贸易市 - Si hai mao yi shi - Four Seas Trading City
Leader: Guildmaster Nanol Dokam
Population (Be realistic): 23,000 people
Nation and Location: Independent mix-benders, most eastern air nomad island at the southern air temple archipleago, at the western tip
Primary Bending Ability: Water

Cultural Practices and History: There isn't much to be said about Si Hai Mao Yi Shi, or the Four Seas Trading City. They, of course, are a port trading city, with high amounts of wealth. To be honest it really isn't much like a city, it's more like a humongous guild place where people can trade, and sell and buy things with housing and supplies. So it'd be a lot like Venice-ish. The majority of the benders are water benders, due to being a trading city. Their navy is the thing they boast, though the majority of it is comprised of merchant ships. The history of the city lies somewhat unknown when a group of anonymous earthbenders set up a port city on air nomad territory. It started out a somewhat of an inn, and just grew. This city doesn't really have cultural practices. It's only thing that gets you through as a citizen is your ability to use a ship. To sail, steer, it doesn't matter. As long as you're useful on deck. It's on the verge of being a trading post and a city, so nobody really bothers. People come and go, or some people stay. Though the majority of the populace are mixed benders, fire benders being the least common, there are still some muggles nonbenders. They do the same, though water benders do much better getting to destinations.

Diplomatic Relations: Neutral to each nation. They intend to stay that way, or at least Nanol does.
Infrastructure and Military:
Free Stuff: 1 city, 2 mining outposts, 1 guild, 2 forges, 1 housing center, 1 light frigate, 2 bending battalions, 2 standard battalions

Paid Stuff: Proper Walls (50), Ballista Weapon System (50), 1 Guild (20), 1 Mining Town (45), 1 Factory (75), 1 Housing Center (30), Port (50), Dry-Dock (75), 3 Light Frigates (60) = 455/460 -

W/O Paid Buildings = GP/2M is 126
W/ Paid Buildings = GP/2M is 276

How many were in the north?

Its hard to say because the ATLA's world is weirdly small, but if we were to expand to our world's proportion the city had a few hundred thousand and another few hundred thousand lived in small villages.

Alrighty.
Can I ask what exactly happened during the battle/Siege of the north by the Fire nation?

Well, part of the problem is the nature of the medium. It was an animated show, with a specific type of character focused story. Where many stories and series try and focus on the large scale epic action to give a sense of size, Avatar was always more about the journey's of the Avatar.

Thusly, we didn't get the huge epic battles and political shifts that we do in other series. The battles and politics we did get where small and all revolved around the avatar.
Plus, y'know, Kid's show on Nick... doesn't really need to show the scale of things.

I'd agree. North generally has a larger population than the south. Probably not by a huge amount, but the Northern Capital is a MAJOR city.
I have been previously known as Apfeldonia and Thimbyrland

Oh way down south in the land of cotton...

Lets see,
18 for the city
30 for the 2 Mining Outposts
5 for the Guild
40 for 2 Forges
36 for 2 Housing Centers
81 for the 3 Mining Towns
40 for 2 forges
-5 for the Barraks
5 for Bending school

250 I believe.
