Those chances are pretty slim as is. For a nation to join the EU, all current members (all 28) need to agree on a member joining.

Turkey, by the way, as been party in a quite interesting ruling by the ECHR involving their now penultimate coup, wherein the democratically elected but Islamist Welfare Party was deposed. The question was whether a state could ban a political party in a democratic society. Quite an interesting thing, if people are interested, they should look into it.

In the 2007 Presidential and the 2008 Legislative Elections, the far-right populist party United Korea comes into government with majority control. They take a harder line towards the North, expand the military to be more reliant on Korean weapons instead of American imports through the complete replacement in combat units of M48's with Korean made K1 and K2 tanks, while also increasing size by over 25,000 troops, mainly in the Army. Furthermore, companies like Samsung that had moved factories for certain products offshore to places like India and China were made to bring them back through pressure of tariffs and lucrative tax breaks offered.

Meanwhile, a belligerent North ramped up it's posturing with an increasing number of nuke and missile tests. On 26 March, of 2010 a ROK Naval Corvette of the Pohang class, the ROKS Cheonan was sailing south west of Baengnyeon Island, when it was struck by a North Korean torpedo, unlike in real life, a South Korean destroyer had been operating near by and after the explosion spotted a Submarine on radar, after a normal targeting procedure, two anti-submarine missiles were fired at the unidentified submarine, as the smoke cleared from the event, the submarine was revealed to be North Korean and led to an instant build up in hostitilities on the peninsula, with both sides preparing for imminent war. Meanwhile, on the DMZ a new secret North Korean infiltration tunnel was found 1.5 km deep into South Korean territory, instead of plugging it up it was decided to allow the North Korean's to use it albeit with a catch, explosives were secretly at the tunnels end, and could be remotely detonated. Hostilities kicked off one day later late in the evening with cross-border exchanges of gunfire and artillery, the South Korean navy immediately took head and within one hour of a Deceleration of A State of War, 240 Cruise missiles were fired from South Korean ships to cut off the North Korean Navy and Air Force while South Korean fighters gained air superiority over the peninsula and began dropping ordnance on key military locations. As dawn neared the war escalated further, the North Koreans believing their tunnel to have remained secret sent in commandos followed by tens of thousands of infantry troops, completely unaware the tunnel could easily blew up if the South decided. They were quickly surrounded by three Infantry divisions and a Mechanized Brigade, after two hours of constant flow of KPA troops through the tunnel, 45,000 Northerners sat inside the pocket with light weapons hoping that their comrades would break through before they had to flee back through the tunnel, this never happened as amidst heavy fighting and bombing at the DMZ, the north failed to break through. Attack runs runs by ROK gunships and fighters led to an ever increasing desperate situation. When it became clear to the ROK high command that the North was no longer using the tunnels to send in troops but just to deliver supplies, the explosives were touched off and now an entire corps of KPA troops were trapped with no means to get ammo or supplies and with weapons no heavier then mortars, a push into their positions broke them up into organized pockets that were effectively hunted down and captured by a joint operation of ROK Soldiers,Marines and Police over the next two days. The end count was 42,331 KPA troops captured, over 2,000 dead and the rest managing to cross back over the DMZ front line. With this resounding victory, chaos would spread among the KPA as their command was bewildered, continued bombing and cruise missile strikes led to a nightmare as the KPA had no effective leadership structure or supply lines. ROK loudspeakers offered 1 kilogram of rice with chicken to whoever surrendered, and the slow trickle of troops at the DMZ turned into a massive flood of troops as they realized the offer of food was legitimate. With the North Korean army now in shatters, a tattered air force that was incapable of conducting missions and a sinking Navy, a massive offensive was launched over the border after a whole eight days of war, commandos landed at Haeju and Nampo as the KPA reeled back to Pyongyang. Sariwon was captured virtually unopposed because of this and Pyongyang became the last remaing center of resistance, with close to 3 Million miscellaneous KPA troops stood against close to 400,000 ROK soldiers and marines. An encirclement was launched with light forrays into the city outskirts to capture troops or keep strain on the defenders. With no supplies of food, KPA troops began wavering, tempted by the promises of food should they surrender. Meanwhile, the rest of the country was captured, including nuke stockpiles and it seemed as though North Korea was ultimately over to the rest of the world. Kim Jong-Il was unlikely to be in Pyongyang and was probably trying to flee to China. 32 days went by in Pyongyang as ROK troops encroached closer and closer in to the city, with commandos undertaking sweeping missions into the city center that would confuse the KPA high command. Kim Jong Il remained unseen for one more week until he was captured after a final firefight with his body guards less then one kilometer from the Chinese border.

As could be expected, reinvestment happened into North Korea's infrastructure to bring it closer to South Koreas levels, the KPA after a two-week long debriefing camp for all captured soldiers in which they were taught about the truth and how their government had been lying to them all along, and how it was now their duty to spread this information to their communties. North Korean education was revised to legitimate 21st century standards, although a standard order was that North Korean students should not receive as intensive and demanding of en education for a decade or so, to allow them to cope and modernize.

As of now, the rebuilding process is mostly done but still continues in many ways, North Koreans have largely come to term with the truth of the past 60 years and now live much better, not necessarily as well as their southern counterparts, but much better, no body starves anymore, people have freedom and knowledge about the outside world and the major Korean tech and automotive companies have moved some of their factories North to take advantage of the cheap labor provided to them through plentiful numbers of North Korean laborers.

The future looks bright for the South, now having access to the worlds largest REE reserves, constant technological progress is being made as Korea continues to exert its new found political and military prowess in Asia, the Won is a powerful currency and Japan and China become increasingly nervous about the rising Korean Tiger.

Nah, I'm getting kinda bored of beating the crap out of the Guays, after the Olympics I'm gonna develop the Amazon region and make a South American EU clone, that hopefully works unlike ASEAN.
