W H A TD O E S I TM E A N T OD I E A G A I N ?
Purgatory: The City at The Edge of No Where.

Name: Vol "Dust"
Age: 28
Years in Purgatory: 8
Occupation: In official capacity, Vol is an engineer and architect, but they paint often. Quality of art is, perhaps, less than one would hope.
Prior Occupation: Fragmented memories of physical science plague Vol. Some are more tangible than others-- Usually specific equations with no context to show what the variables present mean, while memories of locations are lost. Half-remembered drawings of devices long forgotten often leave her scratch at her sanity.

Appearance
Image
Character Bio: In life, they were a scientist of some sort, of whatever title the profession had in its time period. After death, they found much of their education lost, and what remained was withering far too quickly for comfort. In a wild attempt to find purpose and use for their mind, Vol threw themselves at the city's winding streets and seemingly mobile architecture. They spend days-too-short and nights-too-sleepless relentlessly failing to force Purgatory to function by harmony of numbers, rather than by what appears to be chaos. Of course, their attention often shifts to more practical projects, needing to keep themselves useful to their fellow denizens when the wild streets threaten to send them careening into a fit of rage. Vol's little workshop is cluttered with things in need of repair-- Clocks, mainly, though other little devices are not uncommon, and on occasion they make house calls to administer aid to larger structures. In brief, she has made herself a tinkerer and engineer at the disposal of the people, so long as the people pay enough to fund her vices. Her worldview is an orderly one; there is not a spot of mess within Vol's abode, and she often fails to communicate properly when others fail to recognize that their conversation-mate sees existence in its most materialistic possible form. This has driven her into heated arguments with the devout on several occasions, for they see her as rapidly building a catalog of sins. One remarked that Vol was perhaps preparing to impress the Devil when he finally decided that Purgatory was too good for her.

Personality: Vol is diligent, organized, and a generally amiable person who is more willing to talk at end about any manner of topic... So long as it is intellectually pleasing. She suffers from an intense dislike of simple conversation, and is ill-equipped to handle emotional situations of any kind. While often stereotyped as robot-like in feeling, the reality is that Vol handles her own feelings just as badly as others, and they are better left buried than constantly allowed to direct her actions. This has become something of a double-edged sword, for while she is nearly always able to keep a cool head, compounded offenses may cause her to snap without warning for minor slights, and Vol's distaste for physical confrontation evaporates when she becomes wrathful. Frequent lack of sleep may contribute to the problem.

How much do you Remember?: Vol remembers very little of her life beyond the very basic foundations of the profession she brought with her. She has been forced to rebuild her knowledge with a combination of practical experience and experimentation, fragmented memories making the path somewhat easier. Beyond her work, Vol holds fast to mental images of grey skies, rainy days, chilling winds, and rocky coastlines.

Likes and Dislikes: Likes running the show, solving problems, challening others, constant activity, strawberries, warm places, laughing. Dislikes sleeping for too long, unpredictable variables, lack of control, Purgatory itself, superstition.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Theme: If I had to pick one (and remember correctly), Risk of Rain: Cyclogonesis.

Accept the Rules?: [ ] Yes [x] No
If no, reason: I read the orders.

[WEE WOO WEE WOO, Roleplay about to occur. Setting is Infernals Platoon Camp, first night after the christening battle against Redline. Mute this chatbox if you gotta, Character Development May Occur]
Finally, a piece of paper without bloodstains.
Alistine, known to herself as such and to disrespectful soldiers as Ali, crossed her legs atop the hard canvas surface of the tent's interior bottom, and began flattening out the parchment she was to use for an official debriefing.
It had been less than a day before the inaugural battle of her platoon, and she had yet to change out of the bloodied and ragged uniform she had marched and fought in-- an outward appearence underlining the internal strife that caused her hands to shiver as she wrote.
"Imperial Debriefing, First Engagement of the thrid-- fuck."
She smudged the ink, completely blotting out the word before continuing.
"--third Platoon." (edited)

Tetchka - 08/23/2016
In tents elsewise, scribbling accompanied snoring brought on by alcohol and exhaustion. Tetchka Volek stooped over two sheets of parchment, both of which were marked with the official seal of the commanding officer passed out somewhere around-about Sergeant Volek's feet. When the two forms were completed, both highly illegal and both of incredibly dubious intent, the Tiefling kneeled and, almost in afterthought, returned the symbol of rank to its original resting place. It was scarcely a minute later that the privacy of Alistine's tent was violated by the appearance of an officer more parts gashes, dried blood, and bruises than uniform and flesh. "I need your opinion on something."

Ausember - 08/23/2016
Ali seemed to raise almost a foot off the ground in surprise, a short exhale accompanying a nearly drawn rapier, followed by a much longer second breath as she makes out the friendly intent of the newcomer through the darkness.
The hand is still to the rapier, however.
"You're going to have to start wearing bright blue or somesuch, you look as shite as the demon being... 'desecrated' outside."

Tetchka - 08/23/2016
"I will find more appropriate, permanent uniform," Their horned head bobbed in agreement. "When the Army will actually concede to my demand for officer status-- And on a related note, how believeable does this look to you?" Some ridiculous orders from higher-ups slid across whatever Alistine was using as their solid base for writing. An infantry's promotion to company medic. The one doing the desecrating, even.

Ausember - 08/23/2016
It took Ali but a moment to read.
It took Ali but a fraction of that time to be thoroughly disgusted.
As she read, her face visibly contorted into a mixture of distaste and disappointment, and she flattened her hand against the short table to keep herself from crumpling the orders on the spot.
"You understand that I could take this as proof of attempted forgery against the Empire, and you could be sent into the black mist naked, I assume? How do you even know the names of these ranking men? And you want to -promote- the man outside centimeters-deep in a demon?"(edited)

Tetchka - 08/23/2016
Tetchka's hand waving immediately expressed their disinterest in their fellow NCO's discomfort. "Yes, yes, careful investigation, and no. The only thing that Gnome deserves is to be tied to a post and flogged. I just want to entertain this hypothetical scenario that has been buzzing around in my skull." They plopped atop the poor excuse for a table Ali was employing, likely concealing both Tetchka's sins and the genuine work. "You can't tell me getting ourselves to higher ranks wouldn't be absolutely crucial when it comes to ensuring both our survival, and this company's." [Persuasion 7](edited)

August 24, 2016
Ausember - 08/24/2016
[Persuasion 16]
The human tried to ignore the bending sound the already supple table was making, and the trite the demon was trying to throw at her.

Ali hesitated, a clear thought process starting and ending in her head, before responding with a much more hushed tone. She leaned forward, a hand snaking around the demon to retrieve her quill while silently stewing over the fresh debriefing ink that had just been smeared across the ass-end of a uniform.
"Look. I appreciate what you're trying to do here, but I've seen this trick before. We'll get a rank out of it until we make a single mistake, then higher-ups start questioning who's to blame for boosting our rank. No one takes the blame, an investigation is done, and you and I will be digging trenches. -Along- with this company."

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
Tetchka rested her palms on her lap and leaned forward. "You're right, up until the part about blame. Our CO is going to be cake to manipulate." The Tiefling's voice had taken on a similarly hushed tone. "He just passed out in one of our tents, dead drunk. I mean, I got his damned seal long enough to forge two fake forms-- For posterity, I mean, to show you." And out came the second sheet of parchment: Tetchka Volek, Lieutenant Second Class.

Ausember - 08/24/2016
"I..."
Shit, the demon had a point-- but the key point of the matter here was the subjects of the two promotions. Ali bit her tongue, holding back any form assent to this plan, then shook her head silently.
"An infantry promotion is fine, bollocks both of us could probably rank him to medic if we curried with the CO. But... Lieutenant? You're stretching for far too much for a de-- tiefling. Who's only participated in one battle. You'd need a character witness from the commander, at -least-."

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
"I know, it's full of holes. I was more or less experimenting. Well, that, and putting together a presentation for you. My idea is that you get officer status first, or at least a higher non-commissioned rank. If I'm not a step behind the only human in this disgustingly xenophilic platoon, then... You've got a point. It'll be too obvious. At least until one of these brass-toting asses sees just how capable I am." Volek's smile was Cheshire. [Persuasion 21](edited)

Ausember - 08/24/2016
[Persuasion 17]
"Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck it, cross it all, alright. I'll bite."
Ali leaned back, planting her hands on her knees as she straightens her posture. The thought of regaining at least some aspect of her old rank perked her interest, and she found herself willing to take a risk for it. However, bold risks are what had got her here in the first place. She leaned forward once more, bangs partially obscuring her eyes as she looked up at the demon.
"But if we're doing this, you're going to have to give me something more than chicken scratch with a stamp on it. If I go through the official hoops in writing a clear promotion notice, I'm assuming you'll find a way to get the seal again."(edited)

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
"So," Tetchka leaned back, arms spreading in either direction in a broad motion. "I have this plan called, 'walk back over to that tent he's still sleeping in'. Absolutely genius, I know. Perks of not being trained by the Empire."

Ausember - 08/24/2016
"You think I can write something official in an evening? Specifically, the evening after a battle against the hordes of hell?"
Ali mimicked Tetchka's movement, almost mockingly.
"I have this plan called, 'write an actual document, after reviewing the official template for promotions of such a degree and forging the included character references and either performing or drafting notable deeds for why we deserve higher ranks. It's going to take me definately tonight, maybe longer."

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
They snorted, leaning back and mounting chin on palm. "Hardly hellish. Our enemies were more on the bestial side. I think you- Actually, that's good. I'll get the seal to top things off after you put those skills in human bureaucracy to work." They seemed to pause momentarily, as if remembering something very important. "What were you up to, anyway?" Sergeant Volek glanced down at the complaining almost-table she had turned into a stool, one leg and one arm lightly lifting herself to hover a few inches off of it.

Ausember - 08/24/2016
Yep. Yep. It's busted. Ali leaned forward, sliding the parchment completely smudged with black ink out from beneath the demon. With a dramatically exasperated sigh, she flicked the parchment off onto the floor and slid another from her pack-- this one in much less of a pristined condition, due to the blood smearing one of the corners.
"Debriefing. You know, the important document we're to write after every engagement? Losses, notable transpirations, a summary of the events of the battle, enemy documentation. You don't happen to have done any of this before forging illegal documents, have you?"

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
"Oh. Those." They sat again after the paper was freed from it's posterior-ish prison. "I busied myself with deciding who's in need of punishment and began studying our troop's psychological and physiological records." Tetchka offered another crooked grin. "I figured logistics could wait until morning, or, er... Later, at least. I'll admit to being uncertain what time it is."

Ausember - 08/24/2016
"Late enough for the second watch. Have you rotated the guard?"

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
"We don't have enough men to rotate the guard until our reserves are replenished." She grimaced. "Or rather, I'm not satisfied with less men on watch after seeing what we're facing."

Ausember - 08/24/2016
"Aranai can barely stand, yet he's out there guarding an entrance alone for some reason. I'd assumed it was for a cause, but..."
Ali sighed, visibly straining as she made herself stand.
"...alright, I'll bring a torch and my documents and relieve him. We have eleven men, and four entrances. If there had been proper posting, we both could have not had to take watch. As it stands, I'll have to sort this out and take a post. Everyone is within earshot of each other, so we can bring everyone to bear if something happens."(edited)

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
Tetchka rolled their eyes. "It's mystifying to me that this military doesn't employ anything more efficient for guarding perimeters." They rose in sync with Ali, dusting off their tattered garments. "Come tomorrow, I intend to round up any deserters I can find and take up the whip and crossbow. Am I safe in the assumption you don't object?"

Ausember - 08/24/2016
Ali nodded, still trying to maneuver several parchments out from under Tetchka-- specifically, the documents she had forged.
"As long as you don't destroy everyone's morale by showing that there's a maniac in charge, control your natural tendencies and don't do permanent damage, I think I'll survive. Are you in this rank specifically for getting to use your whip on soldiers?"

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
Ali found the task of retrieving parchment easy, as the Almost-Demon had taken to clasping their hands behind their back and strutting back and forth across the tent. "I was put into this rank for my merit as both a combatant and a tactician, and yes, I think some note was taken of the punishments I've supplied to cowards and the... excessively vulgar." A pitch black orb-of-an-eye was temporarily concealed as Volek winked.

Ausember - 08/24/2016
"You've already got the pomp of a Lieutenant down, I'll give you that much."
The human finished filling her pack with the forgeries, the parchments she had been using, the ink and the quill. She then stretched her legs slightly, giving the demon a once-over.
"And if you're going to place any stock behind your words, -please- throw the demon that's being molested outside into the campfire at first notice. The smell alone will be unexcusable."

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
They laughed bitterly, but it was brief and their lips twisted into a sharp frown. "I intend to have the Gnome awaken to the smell of burning fiends, and the restraining arms of my dear bodyguard."

Ausember - 08/24/2016
Ali sniffed, a similar frown creasing across her features.
"Take no offense, but your bodyguard worries me. He threw an axe past my head to attack the enemy, and elsewise shows little distinction for protecting anyone including you."

Tetchka - 08/24/2016
Tetchka's frown reversed in an instant. "I entrust myself to Emen regularly, and they've never once failed me. Well, they might have caused some collateral with that hug after the battle, but beyond that, utterly trustworthy."

Ausember - 08/24/2016
Ali raised her hands to a light shrug, an impassive "eh" escaping her lips.
"As long as you watch him and keep him near you, my only concern is that he kills the enemy. Either way, he's yours to work with."
With that, she would turn on her heel-- opening the tent flap and glancing back.
"If you wanted to, perhaps, stay on hand in case anything happens, I'm certain a demon does better without sleep than an orc or a human."
And she was gone, off without another word.

short summary: A tinkerer and painter learned enough to aid those around the city and herself, prone to cracking under extreme pressure and maintaing a cool, pleasant attitude at all other times. They are aggressively organized, but

It took me so freakin' long to realize that Franziska's appearance is from the Doll from Bloodborne.

Like, just earlier today I realized it. And I did play Bloodborne before that RP started.

Anyways, please don't kill people, Charli. I'm 100% certain that's a bad thing to do.
