I just realized Geoff is kind of the only Normal one here... which means boring.

Well. I was never good at characters anyway.

Surprising as it may seem, I don't make characters in my sleep. Usually. Or if I do, I don't remember them. :p

On another note, I think it's a bit weird that the only form of magic is contractual ritual magic, ignoring other stuff like Norse Runic magic (or Norse magic in general), arcane science/alchemy (be it physical alchemy or spiritual, be it western/Egyptian or eastern/Chinese alchemy), Thelema, eastern magic systems -like an Indian one where people who spiritually develop themselves gain magic/abilities and perform miracles or curses, Kabbalistic magic, (or contracts with benevolent spirits that don't eat your soul, like in Japanese magic/Onmyodo, with paper charms/shikigami, and all that), or even just contracts with different/variable prices to pay (such as sacrifice of others/animals, possession, something else and just a chunk of one's soul, etc). Some systems of magic can be dangerous in ways other than to just one's soul, like how Enochian magic as laid out by John Dee was criticised by others centuries later, for not having enough safeguards/protective measures when calling upon spirits and travelling astrally to different realms/Aethyrs, leading to the disintegration, in both mind and body, of practitioners.

I might be making things a bit overly complicated for you, though (since keeping things just to that particular contract system does simplify the magic situation). At the same time, I can be a bit nit-picky, and I do have some interesting books on magic (like this set of books), and some others that may shed a bit more light on ritual magic, and various other types of magic ancient or modern. :)

oh, I didn't realize the time

I am slightly lazy. Onmyodo usually deals with exorcism, so that may exist.
Along with any form of magic calling nature spirits, just one the sense that those spirits exhibit magic solely tied to earth. Nature spirits do not reside in Purgatory.

Purgatory: The City at The Edge of No Where.

Name: Catherine 'Silver' Sterling
Age: 18
Years in Purgatory: 3
Occupation: Violinist, writes on the side
Prior Occupation: Also a violinist who wrote on the side

Appearance
Image
Character Bio: Catherine and Caroline were twin sisters and best friends from the day of their birth. Catherine was the younger by several minutes, quiet and unassuming even as a baby, while Caroline was outgoing and vivacious, a terrible flirt as well. They grew up together, did everything together. They were each others' confidants and told each other everything--every little secret, every crush, every hope, every dream. Catherine would help Caroline with her studies, being the intellectual one, and in return Caroline would introduce Catherine to the friends she made with ease, making sure her sister was invited to the best parties and always trying to set Catherine up with a date, despite Catherine's insistence that she really didn't have to.

Together, they delved into music, learning the secrets of the violin and spinning out melodies that complemented each other perfectly. Catherine never wanted the spotlight--she stood in the back, playing a steady, elegant song that carried Caroline's lively airs, watching her older sister spin and dance with the music while she stood quietly, smiling in contentment. Occasionally Caroline would sing along with the music, lyrics that Catherine would write for her. It wasn't the novel Catherine wished for, but she was happy.

As long as one was happy, the other was, as well.

Until one terrible day.

Catherine had come home from an appointment, the normally quiet girl bursting with excitement. A short story she had written had been published, and she was ecstatic, hardly able to wait to tell her sister the news, already imagining how Caroline would jump and cry out with happiness...

Instead of a joyful sister, she saw smoke. Instead of their home, she saw flames.

Their home had caught fire, and she learned from bystanders that her sister was trapped inside. The flames had spread too quickly; the fire could not be put out; they were so sorry. Words spun past her ears and disappeared like the smoke rising from their burning home, and desperation filled her heart.

She couldn't live without her sister.

People tried to hold her back, they tried to calm her, but she fought her way free and ran recklessly into the fire, screaming her sister's name until her lungs were hoarse from smoke and she could no longer cry out.

She found her sister at last, and was about to try and pull her from the burning building when the doorway collapsed.

Catherine didn't care.

At least she would die with her sister.

The two girls stayed in the flames, holding each other tightly amidst the ravaging fire, until they finally succumbed.

Their last words to each other were "I love you."

They were found that way, their charred bodies still clasped tightly to one another, and they were buried together as they always were in life.

The writing on their headstones read 'Their love for each other burned brighter than any flame.'

No one ever doubted that the statement was true.

Personality: Catherine is quiet and calm, preferring to support from the back rather than stand in the spotlight. She loves her sister more than anything, and would do anything for her. She still wants to write a novel, but for now she is content to support Caroline in whatever adventure they take on.

How much do you Remember?: She remembers how to play the violin, as well as her writing. She remembers her sister, of course, and while she doesn't remember the fire, she remembers being willing to die in order to stay with Caroline. She remembers their last words to each other.

Likes and Dislikes: Caroline, playing the violin, writing, seeing her sister happy, people applauding her sister, classical music; when Caroline is sad, being separated from her sister, not knowing what to do.
Alignment: Lawful Good
Theme: Lindsey Stirling's 'Elements' (Yes. I named them after her. What are you going to do about it?)

Accept the Rules?: [ ] Yes [X] No
If no, reason: I never read no rules. I just read Orders.
RP Sample: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAno.

short summary: Catherine Sterling is a devoted and loyal twin who loves the violin and writing. She never abandoned her sister in life or death, and doesn't plan to do it in Purgatory, either. Her stage name is Silver.

Together, they delved into music, learning the secrets of the violin and spinning out melodies that complemented each other perfectly. Caroline was a performance artist, spinning and dancing to the lively melodies she created, but always mindful of Catherine, who stood quietly in the background, serene and elegant. Occasionally Caroline would sing along with the music, lyrics that Catherine would write for her. She knew that her sister wanted to write a novel, and she often encouraged the girl to do so, although she certainly didn't argue with Catherine's songwriting.

As long as one was happy, the other was, as well.

Until one terrible day.

Caroline was at home, practicing her violin and waiting for her sister to return from an errand, when she smelled smoke and felt the intense heat of flames licking at the door to her room. Knowing she couldn't run out the door, she dashed to the window, but failed to open it. Panicking, she broke it and was about to jump out when she realized that she wouldn't survive the fall.

She was scared of burning, but she didn't want her sister to come home and find her broken body lying on the ground. She didn't want Catherine to have to see that. She knew the quiet girl wouldn't be able to take it.

So she closed her eyes and started playing again, dancing and singing while her home burned around her, trying to ignore the heat and pain of the flames. Eventually her voice gave out, her legs faltered, and she could only sit on the ground, hoping the end would be quick.

Then she heard a voice screaming her name, and her heart chilled. Catherine. She didn't want her sister to die. She wanted to scream for the girl to get out, but her lungs were choked and she couldn't cry out.

Then her sister burst through the door.

Brave, brave Catherine, going through the fire just for her.

But just as Catherine was about to pull her away, the door collapsed, and Caroline started to cry, her tears being evaporated by the flames but her sorrow still clear. Her sister was going to die for her.

At least she would be with her sister until the very end.

Personality: Caroline is lively and bold, loving the limelight and other people. She loves her sister more than anything, and would do anything for her. She wants her sister to be happy, and is willing to give up the spotlight in order to achieve that goal. She also has a dislike for fire, although she doesn't know why.

Sal, what time of year is the IC going to start in? And what time of day?

I will admit I am currently working on a possible opening post for Shilo.

It is modern day, but Purgatory does not change in time periods. It can't just morph with the time period, it stays the same, in that regard: in the victorian era. You got flintlocks and carriages, but you also have knowledge of McDonalds. Probably miss a big mac.

No real seasons, sorry for misinterpreting the question, you may get rain, but it will not be from clouds; the sky is empty of stars, clouds, it is dark. Water does not interfere with the great fire at the center of the city. Closer to night, which is only really dictated by the sound of bells ringing once for day, twice for night.
