Sorry about my absence, I've been working a lot the past few days and haven't had the energy to actually get up a post. Don't worry, though, I'll try to get one up tonight and if I don't get to it, definitely tomorrow.

Gambia, what's the status on that diplomatic summit you're hosting?

You can blame the Faerun for that, if you want. They have the tech to pull it off, and have been known to make things disappear, in the past.

Uhm. I wanna RP with Zeon. I was waiting for Atria, but I dunno when they'll post. With VOID at a maybe, I have two diplomats free, one of which is an apprentice of the leading diplomat, and technically in training.

My goal is to gain some outside influence, and allies, and trade partners, but no one is forthcoming, or they don't seem to see the benefits of aligning and trading with a massive Empire that is ridiculously sophisticated, and has merchant fleets that can literally teleport from one starbase to another, thus eliminating the threat of opponents trading or releasing a product before us/them. The Empire wants fwiends ;-;

Alright Void my post is out.

But to Ordei, since you claim to have instantaneous and accurate FTL travel, I can hypothetically speaking strap nuclear weapons to a ship and FTL it to let's say the capital of the Galactic Alliance and so happen to explode this ship in the atmosphere causing numerous casualties. Of course this is hypothetically right? We'll trade more slave laborers - Love the Supreme Leader of the GKU

To be honest, the statement "instantaneous and accurate" is meaningless, since FTL is supposed to be fast, and if it didn't get you to where you needed you wouldn't use it.

For the regional map? Nah, I just used some Mass Effect maps online as reference. I guess I'll have to change mine since I was planning on having the Danger Lands be a region with various nations in it, but I guess it's the entire country.

EDIT: Holy shit, that is close....

Darn I wish the GKU would be accepted soon. I want to write posts about the ludicrous propaganda the GKU government gives out. It would be like edited holo-vids of all the leaders at the Gala bowing down to the Supreme Leader or representations of GKU nuclear weapons burning the atmosphere of the Galactic Alliance homeworld in a cartoony way. Or a video about how the UNS are slaves to their own devices.

This actually looks pretty decent, Gambia.

This reminds me- I do need to make a new map of my nation.

Note NAR that the Covenant won't be showing up at the meeting on Jakala due to the rather cold relations with the Federation at the moment.

Im thinking either a dark and evil cosmic entity bent on galactic domination, or a brutal warrior race.

Or maybe a private military contractor faction.

So I was reading some science fiction, and came across a beautiful idea. I will try to summarize it in my own words.

Galactic Legal Concept: The Right to Continued Existence.

In the event that a conclusion of a war involves the transfer of a populated celestial body from the defeated to the victor, the victorious power shall assume responsibility for the cost of relocating the population of that celestial body, and as much of the planet's infrastructure as is necessary to guarantee the continued survival of the population, to a suitable replacement.

This could be the start of some kind of a galactic Geneva Convention.

Any thoughts on this?

I mean, my people wouldn't accept that, but it seems cool.

To be honest I don't think a galactic Geneva convention or UN should happen yet. Most nations are new, only a century or two old, and the older ones are so used to beimg independent that they are unlikely to sign anything.

Now, is some galactic disaster that forced cooperation should occur, then that's a different story.

So this is what I've got so far.

Code: Select all
[box]-Base Information-
=========================================================
[INSERT FLAG HERE]
Nation Name: The Impirrenship
Government Type: A Bureaucratic Autocratic (borderline theocratic) Monarchy where heirs are chosen from the head of state's (many) children.
National Leader(s): The Impirren, the Central Committee.
Population: 666.666 billion.
Star Systems: 663. Only thirty six are inhabited.
History Of Your Nation:
=========================================================
-Military Information-
=========================================================
Military Information: (Technological Capabilities, Production Capabilities, Optional as long as you post information on your Military Branches)
Military Population: Every fiftieth person is in the army at any one time. An additional roughly 3% of the population supports the military.
Military Branches: The Army of the Impirren. The Navy of the Impirren.
Military Strengths: Impeccable communication (linked minds), minor psionic powers due to implants.
Military Weaknesses: Rigid hierarchy. Taking out a commander means his regiment is confused and unusable.
=========================================================
-Diplomatic/Economic Information-
=========================================================
Languages: Rynatoonii
Foreign Policy: (Ranges from First Encounter Policy to anything else of Importance)
Number Of Species: One.
Economic Strengths: Collective, meaning that resources are distributed to the population as needed. Complete mental connection between citizens and leadership, plus the usage of quantum super computers, means that the planned economy is as efficient as possible.
Economic Weaknesses: Lack of currency means international trade must be through resources only.
=========================================================
-Other-
=========================================================
Technological Bases: Basically nanobots for everything. Terraforming, building, ships, cities, everything, really. Plus a healthy amount of neural implants (see species).
Activity on NS: Currently in Peru, so can't be too active.
RP Example: I've been in (literally) over a hundred RPs over the last three-ish years, and if you don't know me then or don't accept that then I'm happy to provide links.
Supporting Factions within your Nation: Pretty isolated as of right now.
#Twilight1[/box]

Code: Select all
[box]Species Name: Rynatoonii
Appearance: By looking at them you'd think they were humans (and they are), but there are significant changes. They're, on average, around 5' 2", and have significantly more muscle mass (not superhuman, but greater).
Biology/Anatomy: As said, they are a shorter human with more muscles. At least, naturally. Every citizen is, at birth (it's safe), fitted with a neural implant that connects their consciousness to the rest of the population in a group mind. Allowing for rapid communication and great collective knowledge. They've been engineered over the centuries to have twins almost every pregnancy and triplets far more often, leading to an average family size of 4.9, which allows rapid colonization.
Natural Abilities: Since everyone has an implant, everyone is connected to each other mentally and can communicate, additionally it allows for very basic psionic powers. While it is technically possible to give people crazy abilities through implants, we wouldn't want a nation of superheroes, as that could turn any rebellion into a hugely destructive civil war.
Unnatural abilities: Some, though, are given greater psionic abilities, although they are controlled and the government ensures they are loyal.
Breathable Gas: Oxygen, ideally somewhere between 15% and 30%.
=========================================================
Life Span: Without any accidents, somewhere from 130-200 years (we'd rather lots of young and smart people than lots of old and smart people)
Reproduction: Sexually.
Intelligence Level: High? They are a group mind, meaning that their collective knowledge is available to everyone. Thus they are far more effective at innovation and development when in large groups, hence the population growth rate and the fact that only a few of the controlled planets are colonized. A Rynatoonii planet of twenty billion can do far more than twenty Rynatoonii planets of one billion.
Species Type: Mammalian, primates.
=========================================================
Population Percentage: 99.99999999% (we capture sentient creatures to study)
Notable Individuals: The Impirren.
=========================================================
Brief Description of Species: Imagine humans, now they have been engineered to be as productive as possible, being shorter and using less calories and having more muscle, plus within a group mind. The only truly human parts left are the appearance and the reproductive system, and that may change soon.

There really should be Galactic War Laws like

-No glassing planets
-No using FTL for combat purposes (going light speed into an enemy ship)
-No targeting civilians and that shit

To enforce these laws, you would need some sort of galactic government similar to the United Nations (or at least get nations to agree to something similar to the Geneva Conventions). No such government exists yet.

I can understand thhe no glassing planets thing. The other two... Eh.

Why not use FTL drives as a weapon? It is horrifying, inhumane, and the resulting mess is likely to be disgusting, but the same is true of a ton of metal at 0.9c.

Civilians? Why not target civilians? I mean, destroying an enemy ship in battle is all fine and good, but it's much better and easier to destroy it on the assembly yard. Even better - destroy it when it's still molten metal in a refinery.

The Orson Empire wrote:To enforce these laws, you would need some sort of galactic government similar to the United Nations (or at least get nations to agree to something similar to the Geneva Conventions). No such government exists yet.

Well, IRL, the Hague Convention was signed in 1899, before the League of Nations existed. So I don't see why a specialized enforcement agency is necessary.
