Introduction:
What if the Age of Exploration hadn't happened? If Columbus had been turned back by the rulers of Spain and didn't make that faithful journey in 1491? Not only that, but Vasco de Gama's voyage failed when he was killed in a storm of the coast, the work of Henry the Navigator not bearing any fruit. There would be no explosion of wealth in Portugal and other places, as trade did not shift from the lands in the east to the seas of the west. Kingdoms along the Atlantic coast like Portugal, Spain, Britain, France, and the Netherlands did not rise to become colonial powers, dominating European events. History would take a different course...
Since those fateful events, three hundred long years have passed. Nations have come and gone, the landscape of the world ever changing. The Colonial Age has arrived, but not in a way that one might be familiar with. What has happened over this time, leading up to the present day? Certainly in that time much has passed, though the specifics are up to you. Which peoples and empires have risen up from the others to dominate and truly hold power in the hearts of men. That much has yet to be determined. Only one thing is assured, the desire for war, wealth, and women still holds true in the ways of the Old World.
Before You Begin:
The intention is clear. A roleplay in the colonial age, but with different players. I encourage you to come up with new nations, not those that we are already familiar with in this time period. You have three hundred years of changeable history to put behind whatever you can imagine. Try to stay reasonably realistic, but feel free to come up with any creative creation that pops into your head. Before making a super long application describing what you had in mind, I'd advise running the idea past some others first, like me, to get the concept approved. Your choice though, just don't be upset if it's denied after all that work.
