Mt Kohinata Dojo | 小日向山道場

"Friend, hm...?"

The old Sensei quietly ate another mouthful of natto-laced rice, chewing slowly and thoughtfully as he gently put the bowl back on the table.

"You've all come a pretty long way for the sake of your friends", he continued. "Foolish? Maybe. Admirable...?"

"The man's name is Henry Saladass", Koizumi explained, setting his empty bowl back on the table and gently wiping his mouth with a paper napkin. "He was one of the warriors who fought against the Chimaera in the Great War, nine months ago. It seems that some of their agents are currently in possession of the body."

"Henry Saladass..." Sensei Hitachi's voice had a whistling, sing-song quality to it, and when he was deep in thought, his trilling pitch only became higher. "I vaguely know the name."

"Can you help us find him?" asked Fukuda.

Sensei Hitachi shook his head.

"Sadly", he said, "circumstances prevent me from leaving this mountain. However, I decided right when I learned about your presence that it would be a shame not to provide aid to such noble men..."

"Why exactly did you want to help us, anyway?" Zi-xiang inquired.

"I'm making a bet on a new age", the old Sensei replied, with a faint, ghostly beam. "A bet that I would see this world overturned and rebuilt with my own eyes."

The old man clapped his hands twice, prompting the ones standing at the side of the hall to rush in and clear up the table and all the empty plates. With breakfast over, everybody stood up, Sensei Hitachi gently ushered the rest out of the hall.

"Just rest now", he said, "and we can decide how to work this out later. In the meantime, I need to do something."

"Meditate?" inquired Zi-xiang. "Train your students?"

"No", said the Sensei. "I need to shit."

...

Standing by a reflective pool in the compound of the dojo was Itona, stoically holding Mr Wong's nandao by his side and looking into the mirror-like water, deep in reminiscence. As the gentle morning wind began to rise, accompanied by the slow ascent of the golden sun, the water began to ripple gently, distorting the image of Itona's face that he saw on the surface, scattering its light and casting a million little images within each wave. The young archer looked out into the distance.

Then he turned round and headed straight for the dojo, twisting the corridors and bends, till at last he reached the main hall, where Sensei Hitachi now sat alone, in quiet meditation.

"May I help you?" asked the Sensei.

Without a word, Itona drew a knife hidden within his shirt, raising it to his head and, without so much as a single flinch of hesitation, began to cut off his long hair, bit by bit.

Sensei Hitachi silently watched.

Lock after lock of thick black hair fell to the tatami, till none remained on Itona's head, and at last, he set the knife aside and bowed, touching his forehead to the ground.

"Please accept me as your student, sensei", he calmly said. Raising his head, Itona unstrapped Mr Wong's nandao from his belt and placed it on the floor directly in front of him, before bowing once again. "I have too much regret to continue as I am."

...

"Yoichi Mineta. Let's finish our duel."

Yoichi's quiet reading session in the garden (complemented by a steaming pot of hot tea) was rudely interrupted by the appearance of Sun Zi-xiang, his one purple eye gleaming in the morning light. Instead of an eyepatch, the young warrior was wearing a glass eye.

Yoichi put the book down and stood up.

"Are you seriously that desperate for a fight?"

"I don't like to leave things unfinished", Zi-xiang replied. He cocked his head and cracked his knuckles, reaching to his belt and brandishing his weapon; Fukuda's katana, which he had borrowed.

With a mischievous grin, Yoichi tightened the white sash that circled his waist, resting his fingers on one of his twin yoroidōshi daggers.

"Very well, then", he said to Zi-xiang, who scoffed back. "Let's have a duel to see whose blades are the fastest."

"Name your terms", demanded Zi-xiang.

"First one who goes off the cobbles loses instantly", said Yoichi. "Best of three matches. No eye or crotch shots."

...

Thollorrat Village

The fire summoned from nowhere didn't seem to bother Claudius; in fact, he simply threw his long coat to block it, allowing the end to catch fire, before standing straight up, the burning end of his coat forming a semicircle of fire round him.

"Idealistic fools!"

Then came the chainsaw. Claudius attempted to block Kalo's chainsaw strike, only for his scimitar to shatter. Unfazed, with fire still encircling him, the IGSE backflipped and butterfly kicked away from the rest, before steadying himself and lowering himself into crouching stance, still burning.

And then he threw aside the burning cloak, revealing a body to which a large number of bladed weapons had been strapped.

"There's no need to waste each other's time, yes?"

Ammy ran away from the weapons wearing man and stopped a few feet away.
"I do not compromise with those that slaughter innocents!"
Even as a wolf, the Sun Goddess was a force to be reckoned with - more so if she was angry.
Ammy used the Brush to summon Galestorm, hoping to send the man's weapons flying from him before he could attack.
"You get him, Ammy!"

Kalo spit on the ground.
"You're right. If you leave then it will be beneficial to both of us." He shifted his other arm into a chainsaw and leapt onto a lamppost, using it as a launching pad for his next jump which was down towards Claudius. Kalo roundhouse kicked at Claudius's head.

"Po, have you fought against bladed weapons before?"

Ackerman did not wish to sleep. Instead, xe leapt from rooftop to rooftop and pricked xer ears a any sound. Xe couldn't shake off the feeling that something was still after them at the moment.

Uska climbed next to xer. "...Ackerman. You look like you need to rest."

Ackerman merely silently leapt away from him.

Uska sighed. He could still feel xer anger at him for letting Wong die.

Thollorrat Village

The roundhouse kick caught Claudius off guard, sending him crashing into the ground and skidding a short distance, eliciting an almost comical grunt from him as blood splattered from his lips. Evidently, however, it didn't have such a long lasting impact on the man, for before he could stop skidding, Claudius executed an wulong getup and leapt to his feet, cocking his head and drawing two bayonets strapped to his body.

"Nice shot", he complimented sarcastically.

Spitting furiously, he leapt upwards and hurled both bayonets at Po, before releasing a heavy downward kick aimed at Kalo's head. The reckless with which General Claudius fought was unsettling; it was almost as if he had absolutely no regard for his own safety or his own life.

"I will stay here with Chieko. They need you more than the two of us do."

Ceiji's conversation with her husband had taken a rather divisive tone, with the latter insisting on remaining at the dojo with the baby girl.

"I've come to realise", Itona continued, gently holding Ceiji's hand in his, "that there's no good reason for us to put our daughter through all this danger. It isn't fair to her at all."

Ceiji pursed her lips. She had something to say, but couldn't articulate it in words.

"But they also need you", he continued. "They need you to find Henry. You knew him well. I, on the other hand, have never spoken to him."

...

"I can send Yoichi with you", explained Sensei Hitachi to Koizumi, Fukuda, and a few others gathered in a small room, conversing over tea and small candies, "and perhaps as many people as you'll need to take back Henry Saladass.

"What I cannot help you with, however, is resurrecting him."

Koizumi sipped his tea.

"Do you know of anyone who can?" he asked.

Sensei Hitachi nodded.

"There is a man by the name of Saul", he said. "He is an alchemist who defied the Universal Laws of Alchemy and perfected the art of resurrection. Nobody else in the alchemical community recognises him as a legitimate practitioner of that science, but the fact is that he is the only one who can perform the techniques required.

"There's a catch, though; he's only resurrected a single person. And that person is Dar Brexit."

Koizumi raised an eyebrow.

"Dar Brexit", explained Hitachi, "was a native of Kubronos. He was born in Don Roith to a noble family, but ran away from home and joined a mercenary army, whereupon he rose up the ranks and became its leader. It was then that he attempted to overthrow the Nizangar Empire, because at that point in time, the Empire was still mourning the deaths of its Emperor.

"So Brexit attacked Don Roith, but the new Emperor, Road Theleng Roatu VII, turned out to be a much more formidable commander than he ever imagined.

"The entire mercenary force was decimated by the infamous Phoenix Guards, and Brexit was captured, tried, and hanged. But the man in charge of destroying his body was none other than Saul himself."

"I think I get the rest", Fukuda remarked dryly.

"The challenge would be to get Saul to work with you", said Hitachi. "I doubt he's that willing to help random people just like that. Not to mention he has an indomitable soul himself, which is how he has the strength to perform resurrection alchemy."

Koizumi grinned slyly.

"Looks like I've found the first soul I can use to pay Tōjō back with."

...

"We're safe here", called Anastasia to Ackerman from her comfortable sleeping position on the ground, as she watched the bodyguard leap from rooftop to rooftop for no apparent reasons. "There's no need for you to be so worked up over things."

"Never mind the fact that your friend just died?" said Lester. "You know, the one-legged man..."

"Didn't really know him", Anastasia replied bluntly, holding up a finger to her face and inspecting the fingernail.

"Yeah, but still... damn."

They fell into an awkward, momentary silence, as Anastasia continued trying to sleep, with no success. Her year-long imprisonment had not affected her biological clock in the slightest, and falling asleep at 10 in the morning wasn't the easiest thing for people who operated on normal, diurnal circadian rhythms. At the very least, despite the sun's heavy rain of light beating down upon them, the air was a comfortable 15 degrees.

"For eleven months, I couldn't move my hands", Anastasia murmured to herself. "For eleven months, they marched me round the city day after day, humiliating me like a dog. Now, they're burning. They've gotten just what they-

"Ah, Zi-xiang. Your duel ended a little earlier than I expected."

Both Zi-xiang and Yoichi entered the garden, drenched in sweat; Yoichi was limping and clutching his injured hamstring, while Zi-xiang was rubbing a bad bruise on his shoulder blade.

"Who won?" asked Anastasia.

Both Zi-xiang and Yoichi shook their heads in united disapproval.

"Let's not talk about that", said Yoichi, with a sardonic half grin, half grimace.

...

"Koizumi Junichirō... Koizumi Junichirō... Koizumi Junichirō..."

While Lam Jan-ci the artificial ghoul ran, her vicious, tentacle-like kagune trailed behind her, the mouths at the end of the appendages snapping and growling menacingly with each ferocious step she took. Each couple of steps she took was punctuated with the sound of her throaty, gruesomely phlegm-heavy voice growling the name of her target. The one whom General Claudius, a direct subordinate of the IGSE's CEO (just like the late Thero), had ordered her to slaughter.

Across the vast expanses of Kubronos she charged. Past the edges of the Dunames Forest, past the burning ruins of Don Roith, past the snaking body of the Targymus River, named for the legendary first emperor of the Nizangar Empire, Emperor Spyros Targymus I.

Or rather, across the river, the humanoid monstrosity leapt.

The moment it leapt across, however, the ghoul stopped in its tracks, clutching the grass, sniffing the air furiously. It stopped repeating Koizumi's name, a low growl rising from its belly.

And then it carried on, saying a different name.

"Akita Seishirō... Akita Seishirō..."

Ackerman glared at Anastasia. "No...I know something's coming. My gut has never failed me." Xe sighed and walked away on the rooftop. Ackerman felt xerself coming closer to Yocchi's location. Xe wanted to check on the boy.

Ackerman eventually found him. Xe gingerly stepped into the room and knelt down besides him, putting a hand gently on his head.

"...I hope you rest well. I'm just sorry I could not be there for you."

Ammy used Power Slash to save Po's life, then dashed up to the man, powered up the Solar Flare and hit the man with it.
"You are brave to fight me! I'd have killed you if I wasn't in this form!"
The Sun Goddess would continue to attack the man until she was either injured or he was.

Miyu walked through the Factory Ship, making her way to a library. She continued walking, ignoring the tall shelves of books; She arrived at a series of cubbyhole desks in the back. Each desk had a laptop with a small webcam. On the side of the computer was a card reader.

Miyu took a plastic card from her wallet, and swiped it. The computer turned on, and she sat in the chair. After about a minute of clicking and typing, she opened up a video chat program, and made a call. Soon, the image of an old bloodhound in a red ceremonial military uniform appeared. His head was turned to talk to someone off screen for a moment.

"General Pepper?" Miyu asked.

The dog turned his head to face the screen, and slowly took off his sunglasses. His face was droopier than usual, apparently from lack of sleep.
"Ah, Miyu! It's good to hear from you."
"...I haven't had much time to take a break. I would have called soo-"
"I know."

There was a couple seconds of silence, before Miyu spoke again, hesitation in her voice.
"So, you've heard about Fay..."
"Yes... IMPDO says they are finishing the autopsy, and we should be able to retrieve the body tomorrow. We've been making arrangements for her funeral in the meantime... Will you be able to make it?"
"...I don't know... Right now, we're trying to find some other guy who's probably gonna cause problems for us. I don't know if the crew here will need me, or..."
"Have you talked to Tadayoshi about it?"
"No, I don't want to bother him. He's probably still wrapping his head around when-Wait, nevermind..."
"What?"
"Nothing. It's nothing. I'll ask him for time off."
"Okay. I think it would be wise for you to take a break. If you want, I can have Fox pick you up from the factory ship."
"That would be nice. Thanks."
"No problem... You're holding up well despite this, I can tell."

Miyu smiled weakly.
"Eh, you're the one who really needs a vacation, General."
"Oho, I can't take a vacation. Running the Senate and military are 24-7 occupations!"
"Yeah... Well, I should be going. Just wanted to check in."
"Glad you did! Bye, Miyu."
"Seeya."

Miyu ended the call, and logged out of the computer. She stood up, and walked out of the library, mixed emotions inside of her.

Tadayoshi stood from the couch he and Kongou were sitting in. They had finished marathoning the entirety of Indiana Jones.
"So, what did you think?"
"The fourth one was... different."
"...I know... Most people don't bother talking about Crystal Skull."
"The Last Crusade was the best. As for the first one, I think it is interesting that Spielberg wrote a movie where the main character had no impact on the plot at all."

Tadayoshi thought for a moment.
Shit, she's right... If you removed Indy the movie would have the exact same result...
"Yeah, that's pretty interesting. I don't imagine it was intentional, though... Anyway, we should go over those modification plans Beltino made, and finalize the resupply order paperwork."

The two made their way from the entertainment room to Tadayoshi's office. Again, Kongou created a fancy chair out of nanomaterials and sat, drinking tea as Tadayoshi began filling out paperwork. About an hour into this, Miyu walked into the office.

"Tadayoshi?"

The man looked up from the papers he was filling, rubbing his wrist out of soreness.
"Huh?"

Miyu cleared her throat.
"I need to request leave, for personal reasons."
"Oh. Okay."

Miyu seemed somewhat surprised.
"Are you sure? I assumed that would leave you without any manned aircraft..."
"Yeah, but you should take some time off anyway. We can handle things on our own-Don't push yourself too hard." Tadayoshi responded plainly.
"...Uh, okay..."
"To be honest, if I didn't think Octavius would kill us all for it, I'd say everyone should take a few months vacation. I guess we can stagger our vacation time so someone's always on duty." Tadayoshi said, jocularly.
Miyu nodded, but didn't seem very consoled.
"You... seem to be taking things well."
"I guess... We stopped Infinity. That's what's important for now."
"...Aren't you, uh, affected by your own death?"
"Oh, that? Eh, not really... I guess you could say, I know exactly what'll happen after I die, and there's nothing for me to really worry about as far as that goes... Not many people can walk around with that consolation."
"Oh... I guess that makes sense... Anyway, I'll be out by the end of the day. Fox is picking me up."
"Ah, cool. Uh, say hi to him for me."
"Sure thing."

Miyu turned to walk away, and Tadayoshi went back to his paperwork. Kongou cleared her throat to get the attention of both of them, and a paper began printing from the fax machine in the corner of the room behind Tadayoshi's desk. The supersoldier turned to look at it.
"Oh, shit, yeah... Uh, Miyu, I'll need you to fill in the dates you'll be gone, when you'll return, and I'll need you to sign it."

Miyu nodded, and filled in the paper, before handing it to Kongou and leaving. Kongou turned to Tadayoshi.
"You seem flustered. Are you sure you are okay?"
"Uh, I've been a bit out of it lately, sorry. A lot's happened in such a short time..."
"Oh."

Kongou thought for a moment. She wasn't sure how to respond to cheer up the man behind the desk; Emotions are finicky. Kongou kept thinking of ways to respond, but couldn't quite settle any any response. She set her cup down in her lap.

"It is in the past. Sometimes unfortunate things happen. You may analyze the events to spot your own errors, but you can not correct them; You may only keep things in mind for the future."
"Thanks, but I already know that... That's not why I'm stressed... Er, I guess kind of. I already know I can't do anything about it now, but... Eh, I don't know how to put things. I'm sure everything'll work out in the end, I'm just worried about the rest of the group."
"Did you know Fay?"
"Hmm? Yeah, we were friends, I guess. Most of the crew worked on the Ockham's Razor with me. We had been working together for six years, so we knew each other pretty well, though we weren't particularly close; Co-workers."
"Oh. Either way, you should take your own advice."
"What's that?"
"Take some time off. It will take time to finalize the design plans and gather enough nanomaterials."
"Yeah, but I'd need to be around for information regarding-"
"I am my ship. I can handle all details necessary."
"Oh, right... Thanks. Well, I'm finished with this paperwork, so I've just got to write down the Captain's Log."

Kongou stood up, and her tea and chair dissolved into nothingness. She took the paperwork under one arm.
"I will file this away."
"Thanks."
"You are welcome."

Kongou walked out of Tadayoshi's office, making her way to the ship's archive. Kongou couldn't help but thinking about the events that had happened during her time spent with Tadayoshi. They were strange, indeed; She wondered what Octavius's plans were, and how he could be found and stopped. She didn't have any clues, but even though she knew thinking about it was futile, she could help but wonder how Octavius could be stopped.

After filing the paperwork, Kongou began walking around the factory ship, taking in the scenery and studying the Cornerian technology.

Miyu made her way to Konogu's crew quarters. She unlocked her bedside locker, and began packing her things, when something caught her peripheral vision. She turned, seeing someone hiding under the covers of one of the bunks.
"A stowaway?"

Miyu walked over and grabbed the covers, forcibly pulling them off.
"Okay, who are you?" she asked, impatience in her voice as she glared downwards at Yoko.

"I was hoping you'd want to stay a little longer", said Sensei Hitachi to Koizumi, sipping tea in a genteel manner, "but I suppose you're right. There's no time to waste."

Koizumi nodded, sipping his tea and emptying the cup at a rapid pace.

"I'll send three people along with you", the old Sensei continued. "From what I hear, not all of your party wishes to go on this journey."

"Hm?"

"Itona wishes to remain here and train with me", said Sensei Hitachi, filling up Koizumi's cup for him, and then his own. "Lester wishes to remain here and live in peace, because he feels he will be a hindrance to your group. And Anastasia... just wants to sleep. Among others who have spoken to me or my students, at least.

"So I'll send three people with you to assist in your quest."

Koizumi nodded and smiled, lifting up his newly filled teacup and sipping.

"Yoichi is one of them. Shōko is the second one; you can find her at the tameshigiri ring, just outside the dojo. And the third one is Anthony. He'll be waiting for you downstairs."

...

Basement Cell

"Ackerman. We're leaving."

Koizumi, now changed out of his suit and into a formal male kimono, had headed down to the cell where Seishirō Akita was being locked up, just to find Ackerman. He adjusted the katana by his side and stood up to his full height of 169cm (were Ackerman standing, he would have had to look upwards just to talk to xer).

"I'm sorry", he said quietly. "We won't be able to bring him along with us. He will have to stay here until we're done with our mission."

Ackerman nodded and looked down at Seishiro, sighing.
"I hope Sensei will protect him."

Ackerman knelt down besides Seishiro and softly stroked his head. "...I'm sorry for not being there for you, Yocchi...I hope you can find peace soon."

Xe then bent over and gently gave him a small kiss on the forehead before getting back up again. Xe took off xer coat and draped it over Seishiro. By now Ackerman only possessed Jontum in xer hands as well as a handgun strapped to xer leg.

"Where to?"

Mt Kohinata Dojo | 小日向山道場

"We need to find a man named Saul", explained Koizumi, walking back up to the open with Ackerman. "He is an alchemist who has developed a technique to resurrect people safely.

"Of course, the problem is that he has only ever resurrected one person, that one person being none other than Dar Brexit, the Chief Strategist of the Chimaera. So we're probably going to have to threaten him a little bit. Though I hope it won't have to come to that..."

It wasn't long before the rest had been informed of the formation of the new, slightly smaller party. Aside from the three whom Sensei Hitachi had mentioned, Fukuda had also opted to remain behind, if only to help Itona care for Chieko (and also to watch over Caliban who, against his wishes, had also been locked up).

"Sensei is sending three of his students to come along with us on our journey", explained Koizumi to Ackerman, as he beckoned xer to follow him to the training field, just a few yards away from the main dojo, cut off from the rest of the compound by a short stone fence.

There, a girl in a muted-coloured kimono was practicing with a katana, slashing apart old tatami mats and bamboo poles. All around her on the ground was the result of her training; sections of those mats and bamboo poles, some sliced cleanly, others a little bit more raggedly, all lying on the floor like the body parts of slain soldiers on the battlefield.

"Shōko."

The girl turned her head and sheathed her sword at the sound of Koizumi's voice, standing to her full height. It was then that they realised how tall she was; she stood at 178cm, just ever so slightly shorter than Ackerman. Her irises were dark; so dark, in fact, that one could barely see her pupils.

"Shōko Mori", she introduced. "You must be Mr Junichirō Koizumi."

Koizumi nodded.

Without so much as a sign of hesitation, Shōko walked over and stepped over the fence.

"I'm ready."

"Huh. I can help with that." Ackerman followed Koizumi out of the cell hesitantly. "It's so kind of Sensei to send his students on an adventure in which we might never come back. I guess they're quite powerful then."

When they reached Shoko, Uska had silently caught up to them. Ackerman acknowledged his presence and moved closer to the man. Xe was impressed by Shoko's skill, to say the least.

Dojo

Both Hex and Strange got on the dragon, both holding on to dear life during the ride on the mythical beast. The trip soon came to an end as they enter a shrine. Strange felt at peace in the location, it almost reminded him of home somewhat. He and Hex said nothing as they went to the dojo. When asked if they want to see the man who own the building or the rooms they chose the former.

When the finally met the man the two once more just let what was happening before them play out. When explained why they were on Don Rioth the two of them explained the same reason they told everyone else, that they had information that some old friends were in danger in this world and they came to save them.

A few hours past and soon everyone was talking about who would go and who would stay. "Me and Hex are going with you since none of us are willing to stay behind and my injury now feels much better." Strange said to everyone.

Mt Kohinata Dojo | 小日向山道場
Descending the steps

Shōko simply looked out into the mountains.

"I was never supposed to have a life to begin with", she murmured quietly. "None of us were.

"It's only thanks to Sensei that the seventy-odd of us are even alive."

Koizumi remained silent.

Within the hour, the rest of the party had assembled at the end of the staircase, some clearly more ready to leave than others. Fukuda had come out, still dressed in a bedroom yukata, to bid one final farewell to Koizumi, while Sensei Itsuki Hitachi himself had come out, dressed in the most formal kimono he had, to talk to Yoichi and Shōko in private, before speaking with the rest.

"I wish all of you the best of luck in your endeavours to come", he said, bowing to them all. "May you all return safely."

Then, more pragmatically, he added, "I've prepared six dragons for you to travel with; they'll bring you to the city of Gu Mindefron. There, you'll be able to get wherever you want, because transportation options are plenty over there."

"Thanks a bunch", said Zi-xiang, with a grin.

"You'd like Gu Mindefron very much", said Yoichi to Zi-xiang.

"Why's that?"

"Let's just say there's no shortage of weirdos going around and challenging random people to fight..."

...

The descent seemed significantly longer than the ascent, for one reason or another. Though only a day had passed, this morning seemed quite a lot heavier than the previous one, as if the thickening of the air with each downward step was the simultaneous addition of burden to the shoulders of the world.

Ceiji glanced uncomfortably at Shōko every now and then. Shōko was bigger than her in pretty much every physical aspect; taller, broader-shouldered, more muscular, and definitely far more well endowed. Though Ceiji wasn't the sort who cared much for appearances, it was still rather unnerving, to say the least, to be next to someone of Shōko's build.

"I'll let y'all in on something", said Yoichi to the others. "Those guys y'all left behind are probably the only things holding the dojo together."

Zi-xiang scowled.

"What do you mean?"

"Sensei has a terminal disease", said Yoichi. "He's not going to live another three years.

"You can't really tell, because you haven't seen most of his other students, but there's a power struggle going on right now, to see who becomes the next head of the Kohinata Dojo."

"Oh shit", said Ceiji.

"In particular", continued Yoichi, "there are these two guys, Yarmiestor ter Manes Platinier and Masaki Hachida, who are Sensei's most senior students. They've long argued over who should succeed him, but in the recent years, it's become so toxic that they've also started forming factions. Lots of the other students have thrown in their support for one or the other; only a few remain neutral, like us."

"That sounds awful", Zi-xiang spat.

"It is", said Shōko darkly. "That's why people like Anthony and Yoichi always stay at the bottom of the mountain. They're sick of the politicking that goes on right under Sensei's nose."

Before long, they reached the bottom of the mountain, and were greeted by the familiar sight of the Seimei Jingū, the first thing they had seen when their dragons touched down. At roughly the same spot they dismounted, the same six dragons were waiting for them, except that this time, there was a young man accompanying them.

Dressed in a light grey yukata and wearing a pair of Japanese straw slippers, the young man was a rather small-built but lean individual (though still significantly less muscular than the beast-like Shōko or the powerfully built Zi-xiang), with tan, golden skin, long, flaxen hair that reached just below his nape, and a pair of shining blue eyes that stood out from his dark skin and gazed blankly, deep in meditation. Most striking about him, however, was that the left sleeve of his yukata was empty.

Despite the somewhat eerie aura the one-armed, flaxen-haired young man gave off, Koizumi walked confidently towards the boulder on which he sat, cross legged, nodding at him.

"You are Anthony?"

The young man nodded solemnly.

"Junichirō Koizumi", Koizumi introduced. "A pleasure to work with you."

Anthony silently got off the rock and shook Koizumi's hand, standing about half a head taller than the old Japanese man. And then, turning around sharply, he walked towards the shrine and bowed deeply.

It was then that Koizumi, who was nearly going to climb onto a dragon, changed his mind. He walked towards the shrine, stood beside Anthony, and then followed him in bowing.

"Wong Tjin-fei", he said gravely, "may you rest in eternal solace forever, and may your sacrifice ensure that nobody else in this world shall die in such terrible injustice."

Ackerman wanted badly to go over to the shrine. Xe wanted to pay xer respects to such a great man, to repent for failing to save him. But Ackerman was afraid xe would start to break down if xe did, and so xe forced xer self onto the dragon.

Uska, however, headed over next to Koizumi and got down on one knee in front of the shrine. He closed his eyes.

"Thank you, Wong...I wish you a peaceful rest without indignation. But if you choose not to forgive me...then that's ok."

Abakelia's Base

One moment Dal Ji-Yeong had just blasted the blue wind girl away and was preparing to do the same to all her other opponents, and the next she was in unbearable pain. It was the strangest thing, one moment the red-orange boy was getting upset, and the next he had passed out next to her while she seemed to be hit by a dozen hard punches at once. Ji-Yeong would have tried to figure this out, but instead she writhed in pain on the ground thinking about her probably broken bones. The heroes were a little busy dealing with wounded and the robots to capitalize on this, so for a few brief moments the only fighting being done was Joshua and Secesh holding off the robots. Then, a crackling sounded throughout the base, the telltale sign of the intercom system being activated.

"Well," the voice of Abakelia said, in a flat tone tinged with anger. It had taken him a minute to realize that his prized asset was down, but he now recognized an opportunity. Ever the one to gloat, he made sure to put on a prototype translation unit so Ji-Yeong would understand. "How... disappointing. Here I was, sure that the Nova would solve my problems once and for all, and it seems I was mistaken. Oh well. You've failed me too many times, girl, and now you must pay the price. All units: voice command HVES914. Set status of codename 'Nova' to hostile. Engage and destroy."

"너 개자식..." was all Ji-Yeong could say as she slipped into unconsciousness for what she was sure was the final time. Immediately following Abakelia's voice command, the robotic legions recognized Ji-Yeong as an enemy and began trying to kill her along with the heroes.

After the mad doctor's speech, Alex surveyed the scene of Ji-Yeong's carnage. She had just seconds ago gotten Ann behind some cover in a position she hoped wouldn't intensify any injury and placed a bandage on the bleeding back of her head, and now looked at Eric, Pobeda, and Ji-Yeong, all unconscious. Eric himself didn't look too injured, other than the nasty wound to his side, so Alex hoped it was just emotional trauma that could be quickly resolved when he found out Ann wasn't dead. Ji-Yeong appeared heavily injured with a multitude of bad bruises and bleeding impact cuts on her face, but still alive. Pobeda, on the other hand, did not look nearly as good. The wall behind him was splattered with olive-colored blood, most of it coming from his severed horn, and a large burn covered his gray chest. "Marcus! Come on, I need your help. We've got to get them out of the open." "Yeah... yeah, okay," Marcus replied, trying his best to ignore the pain from his face. He got to his feet and together they rushed out, Marcus grabbing Eric and Alex grabbing Ji-Yeong, as they were the two closest. "Why are you grabbing her?!" Marcus yelled over the gunfire, looking at Ji-Yeong with scorn. "Because she doesn't deserve to die here!" Alex yelled back. After a few tense seconds of trying their best to avoid being hit, the two managed to make it back to cover with their friend and, up until a minute earlier, dangerous enemy.

With Eric and Ji-Yeong secured, Alex and Marcus now prepared to grab Pobeda, who was about twice as far away as the other two had been. Before either of them could make a move, however, tragedy struck. A burst of bullets from one of the robots finally flew true, striking Pobeda several times in the head and chest, killing him. Alex gasped and put her hands over her mouth at the sight of this, while Marcus said, "Oh, shit." Another burst of fire came, this one striking above the troll and collapsing the wall on top of him, practically burying him in the rubble. Alex still looked like she was going to go for him anyway, though, so Marcus grabbed her arm. "Whoa, what do you think you're doing?" "We're not leaving him here." "Look, I don't want to either, but we don't have a choice. We'd be killed trying to dig him out." Alex considered this for a moment, before letting out a resigned sigh. "You're right. I hate it, but you're right. Let's... let's just leave this awful place."

The two managed to carry / drag Ann, Eric, and Ji-Yeong over to where the rest of the heroes had assembled, desperately trying to hold off the robots. Ivan had even rejoined the fight, having forced himself out of shock, and mentally sighed in relief when he saw Ji-Yeong unconscious with them. He soon noticed that someone was missing, however. "Vhere is Pobeda?" "He's..." Marcus struggled to vocalize it. "We couldn't get to him before the robots did." Ivan swore. "You mean he's..?" Sylph asked. "Yeah. He's gone." Alex said.

"Fuck!" Joshua yelled, wincing as he shoved his now-bruised fist through the face of yet another robot. He craned his neck to see Bloodfyre and said, "Yeah? Lay it on me, man!"
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?

The flight by dragon to the trading city of Gu Mindefron took less than half an hour, partly because the dragons flew with the headwind rather than against it when they had come to Mt Kohinata, and also partly because Gu Mindefron was closer to Mt Kohinata than Mt Kohinata was to Don Roith.

Having gone some distance south, the air had become more humid and thick, though the temperature didn't rise by very much; as the dragons landed and waited for their riders to climb off, the smell of the sea nearby also hit hard, almost as if they were feeling an ocean spray from the open waters.

It wasn't, in fact, an ocean, but rather the Sea of Bahruniam, the largest inland body of water on the Greater Kubronos continent, over which many merchants (and military men) seemed to find it convenient to travel. Consequently, Gu Mindefron had turned into more than just a trading city; just a few kilometres away from the main city was what seemed to be a small military barracks and a warship, though it gave off the air of an old, obsolete vessel on the verge of being retired, posted there just to provide some lip-service to the city's defence.

The moment the dragons landed, they gently growled, urging their riders on.

Stepping off his dragon gracefully, Koizumi straightened out his kimono and adjusted the sword that was thrust into his obi belt, looking straight at the city.

"We don't know if our answers lie in there", he murmured to himself, "but from what I've heard, this is our best chance."

"Oh, it's our best chance all right", Yoichi reassured, playfully punching Zi-xiang in the arm, much to the one-eyed man's annoyance. "You can find just about anything you want in this shithole if you search hard enough."

"It doesn't look that much like a shithole to me", said Ceiji.

"Just wait till you go in", Yoichi replied, grinning slyly.

Anthony simply shrugged, sticking his right hand into the sash tied round his waist; on the other side, where his left arm would have hung out from, a large hatchet was thrust in; it was a massive, barely one-handed Shang Dynasty axe, with an eerie face carved into the bronze axehead that seemed to be mocking whoever was looking at the axe.

"It's not a place you'd want to go to willingly", he said to the others, "unless you're looking for cheap fucks."

Slowly, they walked towards the gates of the city, trying to attract as little attention as possible, which wasn't a particularly difficult task, considering that there were numerous other people coming in and out of the gates, many of whom were behaving in far stranger ways than anybody in the party ever had.

It turned out that the hardest thing to do was not to remain discrete, but rather, to get to the gates unmolested, whether quietly or brazenly. Literally.

About halfway across from where they had landed and from where the gate of Gu Mindefron sat, a rather itchy hand had swung by a suspiciously low angle and rubbed Ackerman sensuously in the buttocks. The offending hand then proceeded to repeat the process with Ceiji, who was so shocked that she didn't even think of drawing her sword, and would have made contact with Hex's body as well, if Yoichi hadn't seized the wrist before its hand could get a grip on the woman.

"What do you think you're doing?" he asked the man, fiercely.

The molester was a rather tall and pudgy middle-aged individual with mottled, pockmarked skin and thinning golden hair (suggesting he was of the higher-bred Nizangar race, which had silky blonde hair that tended to thin very easily), dressed in a sky blue coat and carrying a rapier by his side.

"This is our land, filthy Jap", he snarled. "This whole continent belongs to the Nizangar people. We do whatever the fuck we want."

Yoichi maintained his grip on the man's wrist, but was only thrown aside, as the man violently lifted his arm up and flung him off. The offending limb reached for Ackerman's breasts, but before it could even half make contact, the man screamed, for his arm had been swiftly detached just below the elbow by a Shang Dynasty bronze axe, leaving only a profusely bleeding stump below the joint.

"You... you fucker..."

As Anthony flicked the blood off the axe with his one arm, the maimed molester reached to his side and drew his rapier with his one remaining arm, attempting to run the flaxen-haired boy through, only for him to lose his sword as Anthony deftly stepped out of range of the sword and, without so much as a flinch, severed the man's right hand at the wrist, leaving him completely helpless.

"H-How dare you attack me", the man whimpered, collapsing onto his butt and attempting to squirm away, pressing both of his bleeding stumps against his body in an attempt to stymie the pain. "Aren't... aren't you a Nizangar too...? Why... why would you... y-you... give this country to those filthy... Jap and Chink subhumans...?"

Anthony ignored the man, wiping his axe on the grass and keeping it back by his side.

"Let's go", he urged tersely.

"Come back, you gook sympathisers!" the man roared in blind rage. "Come b-"

As the party disappeared into the crowd, the cries of the maimed sexual offender were promptly silenced by a dart that whizzed through the air from an unforeseen direction and buried itself deep in his jugular vein.

...

"I would advise you not to dwell on that episode", said Shōko to Ackerman, adjusting the folds of her kimono and the sword that hung by her side, her brutally muscular forearms showing even under her sleeves. "Sadly, it happens far too often here.

"What a shame. For such a beautiful city to be the haunt of such horrendous peoples."

The party eventually found a pleasant, open, un-crowded area to sit down and take a breather at. It was a small, open square with a quaint little fountain spewing out a steady, gentle stream of water. The noon sun beat down on the square from above, casting light on the glimmering waters of the Sea of Bahruniam, which one could see from the square.

"For all the debauchery in this city", continued Shōko, this time to the whole party in general, "there sure is lots of beautiful scenery."

"I'm hungry", Zi-xiang complained.

"Then go buy something to eat, dumbass", said Yoichi, mischievously bumping Zi-xiang with his shoulder.

"I have no money."

Yoichi winked at Zi-xiang suggestively.

"In an almost lawless city like this", asked Ceiji, getting the hint, "is it best to get stuff legally or illegally?"

"I prefer going both ways", Yoichi replied.

"Makes sense, I suppose."

"I'll go find things to eat", said Koizumi, adjusting the katana by his side as he slowly made his way to the main road, to which the open fountain square was connected by a small path that cut across a line of shrubs that would have otherwise sealed it off from the rest of the city. "Anybody wants to come along?"

Shōko looked at Ackerman and beckoned xer to follow.

...

"Urssoklob, come here for a moment."

The large, muscular man with the short-cropped brown hair hurriedly rushed over to the window which his boss, a young man with black, almost purplish hair, was looking out of. Unbeknownst to Koizumi's party, there was one individual hiding behind a tinted window watching them, not with an explicit intent to assassinate but rather, out of genuine interest.

"See that one over there?" the dark-haired young man pointed in the general direction of a tall, feminine looking individual carrying a sword. It was, in fact, Ackerman.

Urssoklob nodded.

"I want you to get her to come to our hideout", said the dark-haired man to Urssoklob. "Be nice to her. Threaten her if you need to, but don't harm her or any of the people she's with. If possible, get the grey-haired guy in the kimono to come too."

Uska grabbed Ackerman's wrist before xe walked off with Shoko.
"I'm coming with you."

Ackerman looked back at him. "You know I could defend myself, correct? Remember when I slew over 20 trained killers by myself?"

"You let that guy go for you like that." Uska frowned.

"That won't happen. I was going to give him a good kick but Antony got to him first." Ackerman put a hand on Jontum's hilt. "Now come on, you don't want to starve, do you?" Xe said as xe followed Shoko. Ackerman's ears suddenly pricked, as if xe could sense someone coming towards them. Xe glanced around warily at their surroundings.

Thollorrat Village

The chainsaw attack possessed force that Claudius severely underestimated. His boot was nearly torn apart, barely surviving thanks to the powerful material hidden inside; nevertheless, he was thrown aside with immense force, his leg being twisted into an unnatural angle as he skidded across the soil, landing some ten metres away from Kalo.

Laughing, Claudius reached for a bayonet, drawing it menacingly and biting at the air, saliva pouring out of his mouth like a waterfall. He cocked his head violently, allowing his shattered glasses to fall off, before standing up, albeit with some difficulty, his leg having been twisted.

"You can fight, kid", he jeered. "Jībái..."

He attempted to take a step forward, but his horrifically twisted leg simply collapsed, causing Claudius to simply crumble.

"Tāmāde", he swore. "I forgot the medical nanobots don't work on this damn planet."

"If you can find it", explained Shōko to Ackerman, as the five who had gone to get food jostled their way through the crowds, "you'd probably like to try uruey. It's a delicacy peculiar to this city."

"What does it taste like?" Koizumi asked Shōko, having to look upwards just so he could talk to her.

"Quite rich", said Shōko, explaining the dish like a proud mother rattling off her children's achievements. "You start by boiling pork bones in beef stock until the soup turns cloudy. Once that's done, you add black beans, chickpeas, crudely mashed sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and onions, and you boil and stir till everything's melted into one thick stew. Once that's done, you throw in a few slices of chorizo sausages, drizzle a bit of jalapeño-infused olive oil, and you serve hot.

"Most of the time, though, it can get quite expensive. Which means we'd have to find a way to earn easy money..."

Not long after Shōko had said that, the group was stopped dead in its tracks at the scene of a fight, around which a large ring of onlookers had formed, all cheering and jeering noisily. A man was limping out of the clearing, clutching his severely dislocated wrist and hanging his head in embarrassment, as the victor laughed and mocked his vanquished opponent.

"Weaklings!" he guffawed, pounding his chest, each strike sending waves resonating across his beer belly and his flabby arms, both of which were tattooed with grotesque scenes of horrifying incubi having intercourse with even more horrifying humans. "I didn't come all the way from Don Roith just to fight twenty four weaklings!

"It's been three months!! My reward still stands at 500 dollars!! Will none of you fools challenge me!?"

"That's Strondi Siedfawke", said a random, Korean-looking man in an office shirt to Ackerman, who happened to be standing next to him. "Everybody calls him Shitfuck. He's been challenging people like this ever since he came here three months ago."

"Has nobody defeated him yet?" Koizumi asked.

"It's not that he's really strong", said the Korean. "It's that all the good fighters don't ever bother to stop, because $500 dollars is too little for them to bother embarrassing themselves by..."

Before the commotion could continue, however, the ring was suddenly filled again, as Anthony silently stepped in and handed his axe to a bewildered bystander.

"Five minutes", he reassured the bystander, flexing the muscles of his one arm.

"What's this? Are you mocking me!?" The challenger beat his sweaty, flabby chest, drooling profusely. "A cripple coming to fight me? Hah! I'll raise the prize to $1,000!"

"Just saying", Shōko whispered to Ackerman, "you could buy at least 30 bowls of uruey with $1,000 in Nizangar currency."

Anthony flexed the muscle of his one arm.

"Okay, cripple", jeered the man. "Are you-"

"Mr Shitfuck?" Anthony asked.

Anthony's use of the man's unwilling and highly unfortunate epithet seemed to trigger the man's berserker response, for his chest turned red and his cheeks turned purple, the jugular veins snaking up his neck pounding like horrendously overworked water hoses.

"Don't you dare call me that!" he screamed.

Anthony bowed, keeping his poker face.

Shitfuck, enraged, charged forward, the rolls of fat on his body jiggling, only to suddenly fall backwards as Anthony lowered himself, swept his leg across the ground, and tripped his much larger opponent. The moment Shitfuck landed supine on the ground, Anthony leapt upwards, butterfly-kicked away from his fallen opponent, and then landed in horse stance just a short distance away, his one hand curled into a fist and tucked at his side, for balance.

Now panting furiously, Shitfuck screamed a truncated cry of fury and threw himself forward in an attempt to squash his opponent, but blinded by his rage, he could not see Anthony leap deftly out of the way and, in one swift move, kick upwards and lock his knee round Shitfuck's neck. The large man attempted to dislodge the significantly smaller Anthony, but could do nothing as the boy tugged backwards forcefully, landing gently on his back, while tearing Shitfuck sideways and smashing his face into the cobbles.

The crowd went wild. As Shitfuck moaned and attempted to stymie the streams of blood that poured out of his nose and mouth, Anthony kipped up, silently surveyed the mess on the floor, and bowed.

"Thank you for the challenge", he said, "Mr Shitfuck."

"I'm not going to... give any money... to you!" Shitfuck screamed, on the verge of tears. "I... demand a..."

"Give him the money!" yelled somebody in the crowd.

And then everything went downhill, as the crowd pounced upon Shitfuck and proceeded to tear him apart. Koizumi made to stop them, but the Korean man grabbed his shoulder and shook his head.

"You've not seen half the things this man has done", he said.

As Shitfuck continued being destroyed by the spectators, Anthony emerged from the scrum, holding a large wad of banknotes that amounted to N$1,000.

"He had at least 300,000", he said, ignoring Shitfuck's cries for mercy. "I only took what I was entitled to."

The Korean man chuckled.

"You're an honest lad."

Then he pointed to a chalkboard sign, on which the names of several dishes had been scrawled, alongside prices.

"Might I interest any of you", he asked, "in a bowl of soup?"

"Kid?" Kalo twitched an annoyed eyebrow. "I'm fucking 30 years old, shábì!"

Upon noticing that Claudius's leg collapsed, Kalo was tempted to finish him for once and for all. But for some reason he was hesitant about killing a seemingly vulnerable opponent. Besides, it looked like Claudius's injury could do the job for him.

Kalo shifted his chainsaw back into a hand and swung a fist at Claudius.

Ackerman drooled when the man offered them soup. Xe glanced eagerly at Anthony. "This could be the food we need, we should take it."

Uska sighed, despite being just as hungry. "Don't be so eager, you glutton. You just seem rude by now."

"By the way, we've got money but we better know how to spend it well." Ackerman tapped xer chin. "We could allot the earnings while we eat."

Ammy
Thollorrat Village

The man had been wounded and disarmed, so Ammy merely walked up to the man and knocked him over.
"I'd give it up if I were you...If you move, I will kill you."
Her tail lashed back and forth as the Sun Goddess began to pace in front of the man at her mercy.
"Ammy, aren't you taking this a bit too far?"
"No. He has slaughtered countless innocents and needs to be condemned for his crimes."

Kanto Region

“Hylian?” Lusamine questioned Link. “I’m unfamiliar with such language. I’m speaking in English right now. As for the location…” Lusamine flinched a little, spooked that Reinhardt wanted to kill the new person. “Could you please relax Reinhardt! He doesn’t mean any harm. In fact, he might be a Pokemon Trainer.”

Link
Kanto

Link did notice the new person but paid no attention to him because he then heard something - something familiar.
"...What..."
Something was hitting a wooden fence nearby - no, a fenced in area - and Link headed towards the fence.
He found himself looking at a very familiar horse.
"Epona!"
The roan horse nodded, nickered softly and moved her head forwards a bit, then looked down at the wooden fence.
"I wonder how you got here..."

Reinhardt deactivated his hammer and turned. "sorry, as I am in an unfamiliar area and a former overwatch agent, I've been on guard". He extended his hand towards Blare for a handshake "Sorry for startling you, I did not know your intentions."

N-J

‘When we can’ is always! Takanuva’s mind rages. His eyes narrow and he prepares to utter a retort to Aestus.

Wait.

Suddenly the fury flows away, replaced only by void.

This isn’t like him. He is right, of course, but that doesn’t mean that the others weren’t well-intentioned or deserved of that verbal lashing - a lashing that he knows in his heart of hearts could have easily become physical. Terrifyingly, for a moment, at least, he had let the strange, new urges take control.

Worse, he had liked it.

That feeling, that unbreakable self-righteousness… The Toa of Light shudders once more. Mata Nui, but it felt good. I was enjoying lashing out at the others. Is - is this what being the Makuta is like? Another utterly horrifying thought. He holds his hand to the side of his Kanohi Avohkii. I really need to talk to someone about this. Preferably Aestus; Julian too, if she’s willing to listen. I’ll apologise to him when we make camp for the night.

Takanuva nods to himself, then lets out a shuddering gasp that he didn’t know that he was suppressing until that moment, leaning on his Staff for support.
We are the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System, not just a collection of people; please shorten to the pre-title or use the full name!

Emmet: You might see a mess -
Lord Business: Exactly: a bunch of weird, dorky stuff that ruined my perfectly good stuff!
Emmet: Okay. What I see are people, inspired by each other and by you - people taking what you made and making something new out of it.

The central Nimban cultural ideal summed up in an exchange from The Lego Movie.
