Gothenberg Confederation

Months before, the formerly sovereign nation of Denmark had voted to join the Gothenberg Confederation, and shortly afterward several more southern provinces were transferred to the United Republic of Europe, as agreed, and somewhat to the disappointment of the Gothenbergi government, but a deal was a deal, and they did not want to pick a fight with the United Republic of Europe. At the moment, President Ernman and Minister Jakobsson were writing a series of missives to some of their allies, in particular the URE and the Northern Slavic Empire...

The Gothenberg Confederation is happy to enter into a trades union with the Northern Slavic Empire, though it should be made known that the Confederation is currently entered under the European Trade Union made by the United Republic of Europe. We believe that this may present a conflict of interest in the event of entering both unions at the same time. The Confederation would like assurance that, should the Confederation enter PECO, it will not have to leave the URE's Free Trade Union.
If it does not, we would be happy to join.
May our nations prosper in unity.Signed Patrick W. Ernman, President, Gothenberg Confederation

Creating a more shared economy
Coat of Arms temporary, this Coat of Arms is subject to change within the next 2-4 months.
As you know, the Gothenberg Confederation has recently gone through an economic crisis as a result of the former Nordic Treaty, and another collapse is projected by our economic specialists in the near future due to the collapse of the US economy. As such, we plead that you consider allowing the Confederation to enter under some form of a shared economy agreement, soas the Confederation's economy does not collapse completely, at least until the Gothenbergi economy can stand up on its own relatively well.
I pray that you will consider this with mercy in mind.
May our nations prosper in unity.Signed Patrick W. Ernman, President, Gothenberg Confederation

The citizens rejoiced as the Medical convoy rolled into the camp, carrying the first batch of the Ataxia cure bought from the URE. It would take weeks for all the people shipped way out in the countryside to get the cure, but in the end the Government never had to resort to as extreme measures as it had feared.

Lately, the nation had not been making as many military advances as it had wished, and despite the impending economic fall, President Patrick Ernman decided to begin a mass initiative into working on the nation's non-nuclear missile system, creating comprehensive first- and counter-strike plans in case the Russian nation decided to attack the Confederation. In addition, the government begins seriously considering implementing the missile defence system the Northern Slavic Empire had previously offered to sell to the Confederation. Finally, defensive fortifications are started along the relatively small Swedish-Finnish border in the case of a Russian first strike. The Confederation claims that this is only for defensive purposes.
The Confederation also starts looking into updating its aging Vehicle fleet, and updating its Gauss-based weaponry systems. The Navy also begins looking towards overturning most of its Nordic Treaty-era ships, moving towards a doctrine more based on Ship-to-Ship and Ship-to-Land missiles than tradition naval guns, and also begins research into laser-based Anti Air weaponry.
