Lafayette, Louisiana
Image

Larson decided to go and hit the campaign trail again, he must crush his opponent in a huge storm of campaigning if he had any hope of winning the goddamn of election. He already hit the suburbs, the rural areas, and the seniors. Now was the time to try and convert the Cajun population of Louisiana to his cause, he had to do that to win the great state of Louisiana.

"Bonjour Lafayette, comment ca va? "

Larson began with a few phrases of French that he memorized.

"Today I am here in Lafayette, while my opponent is doing nothing, I am out here campaigning all over this great state of Louisiana while my opponent is just cozying up with his globalist friends in Wall Street, and he is just there selling himself out to those big donors, but me I fight for all of you. I want to fight against corruption and I just want to fight for the people in Louisiana. That means fighting against corruption and globalism, fighting against the big banks, and fighting against the corrupt Wall Street goons. My credo is Americanism not globalism, and that will be my credo in the Senate!

I will start my fight against globalism, by limiting immigration into this great country. Right now there are so many illegal immigrants being granted amnesty right now that the poor American has become a beggar in his own home. Yes a beggar in his own home, the illegal immigrants are here taking lots and lots of jobs that otherwise go to hard working Americans. I believe that Americans should come first, once I get elected to the Senate I plan on working with the Representatives of this great state to figure out ways to punish companies who knowingly hire illegal immigrants in favor of Americans. Illegal immigrants must be taken care of, and amnesty is not the solution, amnesty is rewarding people for breaking the law, there are millions of people waiting to get into this country legally, but no apparently the Democrats do not want to help those who actually follow the rules, they want to help the Mexican illegals. Well here are some stats, almost 3% of all illegals have been committed of felonies, yes felonies. I will work with the House of Representatives to kick out any and all illegals who have been convicted of a felony, there will be no amnesty for the wicked, mark my words.

There is an amnesty bill going through congress right now, and I will get it killed. I will resign if that bill actually passes the Senate, I am actually going to resign from the Senate because then the institution is just too corrupt for me to be there. I will have to resign. The CIRA act will get killed by my own hands, otherwise my name is not Jason Larson! So I promise you the people of the greatest union, I promise no amnesty forever!

I promise to streamline the deportation process, right now we have too many steps preventing the illegals from getting deported, it should be one strike and you are out if you are an illegal immigrant. If they catch an illegal immigrant, they should immediately go and kick his butt back to Mexico. My opponent does not have enough courage to do that, but I do. I am not afraid to call a spade a spade, an illegal immigrant is ILLEGAL, liberals should get that through their thick skulls. I will streamline the deportation process by removing steps to ensure that the illegals if they are identified can be deported within 24 hours.

These people are some really bad people, and people like Mayor Walton in Seattle just do nothing but protect them, same with Mr. Cox of L.A. We need to punish those people, they are helping and abiding criminals, and we should not have any of that. If I have the distinct privileged of being the Senator of Louisiana, I will work to ensure that we strip Sanctuary Cities like Seattle, and Los Angeles of federal funding. If they put their political agenda of globalism ahead of the safety of their own citizens, they deserve to have their federal funding stripped for their reckless actions.

Thank you Lafayette, hope to be back here soon, as your next Senator!"

"Exactly. On a smaller scale, the "government" of the Libertarian Party collapsed, so we need something temporary to fill in for it. Informally, Blythe and I have already taken up that task. But I would prefer that we do all of it in a more formal fashion to prevent another meltdown. So we instate a new chairman to oversee the rebuilding process and to put temporary fixes to the immediate problems until we can have a true convention and make more permanent changes."

I like it. How long should this temporary administration have control?

Cal nodded, inviting the man to lay out his platform, and listened as he did.

"Well." he shrugged. "It's not like I can say I disagree with any of that, or think that those aren't good reasons. But, I would like to know what you were planning on doing to act on those motivations, if you were elected."

"Well, I'm a firm believer in positive legislation as opposed to negative legislation, but we obviously need a good balance of each. So I would want to introduce bills that promote the kind of healthy culture that has been deteriorating in America.

I'll list a few things off that I support:
I would firmly stand against anything that revokes tax-exempt status from churches.
I plan on introducing a bill that brings about a national right-to-work law.
I would support any law limiting abortions.
I don't know if I could write it, but I would like to sponsor a bill that reforms the welfare system while still giving the people who need it a hand.
I would support a Winstoncare alternative that doesn't break the bank.
I am against drug legalization, but in favor of reforming mandatory minimum sentencing to punish rapists and murderers much harsher than drug users, and doing everything we can to eliminate all forms of police brutality.
I am in favor of setting up a permanent infrastructure for the screening and acceptance of refugees with an emphasis on the acceptance of women and children.
I am in favor of taking a serious look at our policies involving transgender bathroom policies in public buildings with an emphasis on keeping our children safe.

One of my keystone bills would be something that I am already in the process of drafting. It's based on an Economist article I read awhile back that got me thinking. The Public University Affordability Act would make public colleges cheaper by taking the following steps. Did you know that a large portion of undergraduate tuition pays for graduate and post-graduate research? Research is a public good but there's no reason that undergrads should be footing the bill and taking on debt for it. So under the PUAA, research would no longer receive any funding from undergrad tuition.
Secondly, the bill promotes an increase in class sizes, so as to more effectively teach students under the salary of one professor as opposed to several.
Also, the program would offer incentives to either eliminate or consolidate programs that few students enroll in. For example, some schools teach nearly the exact same First Amendment Law class to journalism and marketing students. This program would put them into one classroom, saving the school a whole class worth of money.
Finally, and this is the big one. Administrative bloat would need to be ended. Universities employ hundreds of non-essential assistants, researchers, psychologists, secretaries, and in general, administrative positions that exist more because of tradition than necessity.
I know that bill might not be insanely popular because of everything it cuts, but that's why I want Congress to get their hands on it and figure out what works and what doesn't through amendments.
Here's the best thing: this guy, Vance Fried, who conducted the study that has guided my ideas, says in the article I mentioned that the cost of undergrad tuition at public universities would be cut to about $7,000 a year. That's a lot better than the $19-35k that it costs now, all without doing much harm to programs that students benefit from." Carter paused and took a deep breath, "holy crap...I think I just talked your ear off. So.....what do you think of all of this?"

There was no reason to not capitalize on the fact that Prejean seems to be content staying home, while Larson stumps across the entire countryside, talking with voters and making stump speeches. His team even started building a ground game! The Larson team has not built a good ground game, in fact it was rather shoddily made, powered only be fanatic volunteers, due to huge budget constraints, but it was still a ground game nonetheless. The Larson teams across the country were instructed to hit as many doors as humanly possible, with one team even managing to knock on 120 homes during a weekday! He was either going to win the election or lose in such a way that he would make a huge splash in Louisiana politics and possibly run for the House of Reps in 2018. Now he had to thank the Lord for the good fortune of a mostly inactive opponent, he would continue stumping all across the country.

"Hello Shreveport, the last time I was here we defied the entire world, and the corrupt and crooked establishment when we placed first in the Louisiana primary, and advanced to the second round. Do you all know why we were able to do what we did? We were able to do so, because we stood up against the crooked and corrupt establishment that dismissed us outright. They said we did not have a snowball's chance in hell of making it to the runoff let alone winning the election. Well guess what we placed first, we did not just defy expectation but we shot them up so much that we shattered the so called crystal balls of so many political experts that they were crying. Then they said we could not win the debate, it just was not possible according to them, our opponent a seasoned political office with connections to the most powerful institutions in the United States versus us, just the downtrodden, the beggars in our own country, the people that the establishment forgot, the masses who are unwilling to accept their globalist agenda. Ultimately it is the people versus the elites, it is populism versus elitism, it is Main Street versus Wall Street in that debate, and Main Street won, despite all of Wall Street's advantages at the end of the day it was us the people that won the day, we were able to defeat the representation of the establishment.

So Louisiana, currently we have defied all predictions made by political experts, now let us prepare to defy one more! Let us win the general election in December, let us show them that the people of Louisiana are tired of being played fools by Wall Street puppets like Mr. Prejean, let us show them that we are ready to elect someone who is actually ready to represent the farmers of Louisiana instead of the bankers of Wall Street.

In my first day in office I am prepared to drain the goddamn swamp of Washington of its corruption and ineptitude, I will ensure that the exploited people of this great state of Louisiana, and this great country of America truly has good people working for them instead of corrupt cronies of the big banks, we will have people that can actually do a good job. If there is somebody who is grossly unqualified and only chosen because he or she has connections with the President I will do everything in my power to obstruct their opponent, believe I will only vote for people that will serve the people of Louisiana properly. For instance, if President Reed goes and appoints corrupt New York billionaire Beaumont, I do not care that it is President Reed's appointment, that is clearly someone who is not qualified to hold a janitorial position, much less an actual political position. I will absolutely vote no on his appointment. I do not care who does the corruption, I will fight against it. We will drain the swamp in Washington!

I will lobby for a total lifetime ban on all executive officials from lobbying on behalf of the corrupt and crooked special interests. We are going to ensure that the nation does not go down the drain to a slow decline, we must do it. We must ensure that corruption is destroyed, we must ensure that we break apart the political machines that keep people like Winston in power. To accomplish that we must ensure that the corrupt and crooked elite in Wall Street have no ways of obtaining powerful political tools that they can use in their operations. We are going to ensure that happens.

I will also immediately push for a bill that bans ALL foreign contributions to our political campaigns. This is America, the last time I checked, not Mexico, not Guatemala, not Belize, but AMERICA. We need to ensure that the people of this great country are not subject to the influence of corrupt foreign elites, and with the help of God I will make it so. No longer will our country's representatives be able to sell us out to sea with their corrupt double dealings with countries like China, we are going to clamp down mightily on that by just outright banning all foreign contributions in our political campaigns.

But there are so many loopholes right now, so many. People can say that their not lobbyists but they clearly are, we are going to stop all of that, we are going to ensure that we close all of those loopholes. In Washington it is sometimes hard to tell what is what, mainly due to the bureaucratic nightmare that the Washington insiders have set up for themselves, it is so crazy and insane that the people of Louisiana do not even know what the hell is going on with some of these laws. I will close all of the loopholes for lobbyists so that people who are doing lobbying are actually labelled as lobbyists, not consultants and such. Furthermore, I will mandate that all laws written in complex legalese that only those who had an Ivy League education can understand, I will mandate that they be translated into plain English so that the elites can no longer hide behind that wall of lies and concealment.

So that is my promise to all Louisianans that I will drain the swamp of corruption and filth with my common sense plan. "

Well, as a rough idea, I'm thinking that we do it like this:
The day of the 29th will probably just be a good time for people to get together and stuff, but we open the convention hall at 3:00, hold opening ceremonies and the first keynote speaker starting at 5:00. Maybe have some sort of social that night.
The 30th will be the big business day. Speakers starting at 10 am going until 4 pm. Follow that up with the nomination and speaking of any candidates for chairman pro tem in the evening.
The 31st will be New Years Eve, so I expect a lot of partying. About noon that day, we will have the official voting for chairman pro tem, and then some more speeches through the afternoon. We should stop all official business in the mid-afternoon so everyone can get ready for the fun that night, with bands and comedians and the biggest Libertarian New Year's Eve Party ever. At midnight of the party, we should announce the new chairman and have them give a little impromptu speech, just for fun.
On the 1st, everyone will be hungover. So let's start things up with a big breakfast at 10:30 followed by some final speeches, with the last one being given by the new chairman about the vision for the upcoming year.
Well...I didn't expect to have all this planned out so much already. What do you think of that outline?

Perfect! I wanted the 1st to be something special, something spectacular. I chose that date for a reason for the convention. Think about it, the days ahead we plan, have speakers, get motivated. Then on New Year's Day, we announce "A New Year and a New Party!". It'd be a blast!

Same problem with weed as well. I dont have a problem with it, but we should still remain within the legalities of New Hampshire law. I'll see if I can get the local police department and private security forces to chip in.

That's a little bit of a concern of mine for the celebration on New Years Eve...I trust Libertarians to hold their alcohol more than most, but still, having a bunch of drunk people from a broken political party in the same place is a recipe for disaster. So again, it is crucial that we get the best security team possible for the event."

Same problem with weed as well. I dont have a problem with it, but we should still remain within the legalities of New Hampshire law. I'll see if I can get the local police department and private security forces to chip in.

Doug Stephens
Speaking of that, what are the New Hampshire laws on weed? I'm sure the local police would be glad to help with any event that draws as many people as I hope end up coming.

Cal listened with some level of interest as Carter rolled off his manifesto.

"Well." he said, after the man had finished. "That first list of yours sounds like a decent enough carbon copy of a lot of my policy positions I'd hope to step forward with, though I'm not certain about how a permanent infrastructure would work out relating to refugees, or if we should have one. The college idea though-I can't say I've heard that one before, but I'm not quite sure I agree with it. I'd hate to see those research programs dry up like that, and I'm not quite sure its the government's place to say where the tuition money ought to be going. If there are universities that hold off on spending on research, I'm sure they'll have a competitive advantage against the others naturally, in terms of undergraduate cost.

The other bits-incentives to change class sizes could be dicey, could work-I certainly like the idea of cutting down on administrative bloat, but that's certainly something that'd be a bit complicated, above my pay grade, though if it was possible, I'd be quite open to it, see what-Vance, you said? Vance Fried? Has put together."

"Yeah this Vance guy is some sort of professor at Oklahoma State. I read some stuff online and it seemed promising, still need to get a little more in-depth with it. I have no clue how credible some of it is, but the ideas seemed fresh and new. I obviously have a lot to still figure out with the college stuff, but it kinda became a bit of a passion of mine of a sort, especially in these times when a college degree is almost as necessary as a high school diploma for getting a job to support a family. I agree that it might not be the federal government's job to determine where tuition money goes, I just don't feel like state governments are monitoring university spending well enough." Carter realized he was getting into a lot of detail on the topic again, so he changed the subject. "Other than the college thing, obviously it's important to me that we eliminate any threats of radical Islamic terror, and get a grip on out-of-control federal spending. I also do want you to know that with me in the Senate, any bills you'd be interested in introducing, well, you can run them by me and if I like them I'd be more than happy to introduce them on the Senate floor or collaborate on things. So what do you think of what I have here? Sound like something you could work with?"

Metairie, Louisiana (Suburban New Orleans)
Marriot Hotel

Image

"Hello, Metairie!"

Phillip announced, with a wide grin on his face. The suburban area surrounding New Orleans, namely Metairie-Kenner-Harahan-River Ridge, were all his territory. The crowds were swelling log before Phillip even arrived at the hotel conference room, everyone quite eager to get a glimpse of the probable next senator to represent Louisiana. Many experts were giving Prejean a massive advantage, but he never bought into the idea that this race was a 'sure thing.' In fact, he pushed his team to campaign harder than they ever had before - as if they were a ten-point underdog.

"Great to be home, let me tell ya! Jefferson Parish has come a long way since I took office as your Parish President. Jefferson has grown in so many ways, and it continues to do so to this very day. I think it's not only a testament to good, effective leadership - but also to a proactive citizenship across the area. For that, I say thank you. Keep holding your politicians accountable. I want you all to know that I will remember where I came from, I want you all to know that I will not forget my roots and I will not forget about any of you should I have the distinct honor and privilege to serve as your United States Senator. I also want you to know that I will try my best to be one of the more accessible Senators in Washington, because you deserve to be able to make your voice heard. You have been speaking, loudly and clearly, demanding that the Unaffordable Care Act be repealed and replaced with something far more effective and far more affordable. I think the solution lies in freeing the markets, dissolving artificial boundaries along the state lines that prevent certain insurers from providing coverage across the nation, and allowing competition between excellent policies drive down costs. I'm also planning on ripping up the awful mandates that Winstoncare has forced upon our businesses, which has only made insurance even more unaffordable for many Americans. This has to stop, and I will do my part to stop it if I am elected Senator."

"The Unaffordable Care Act is just one of many failed liberal policies that the coalition of Winston has pressed upon each of you. For the last eight years, the liberals have been preaching about how responsible gun owners ought to pay the price for those who break the law. I don't know if that is their intent, per say, but I understand that it certainly sounds that way whenever the idea of 'gun control' is proposed. Listen, I've served in the United States Air Force as well as in the Marine Corps. I know that this whole 'gun control' thing is a bunch of malarkey, and I understand that it is the Second Amendment that protects the American people as well as the other Amendments of our constitution from domestic tyranny. As long as we abide by the United States Constitution, we will abide and support the Second Amendment and the rest of the Bill of Rights. You have my word that it is a non-negotiable to me. Finally, I want to end by saying this: I am a Catholic Christian. I believe God has blessed this nation tremendously and I believe that is not something we ought to be ashamed of. However, I believe God has created each and every single one of us in His image and in His likeness, starting from our formation in the womb until the day we pass from this Earth. I have always believed that abortion is an intrinsic evil, a practice that I will fight tooth and nail to end. I believe the time has come to raise our voices, to make our thoughts and our convictions and our principals heard on this matter, and to bring about the end of infantcide across the United States!"

"Together, we can bring about a political Conservative Revolution and to bring about genuine, competent, Conservative change. A new day is dawning, it's morning time, Louisiana!"

New Orleans, Louisiana
Lakefront Airport

Image

"Good morning, New Orleans!" Phillip announces to a cheering crowd, with some relatively quiet observers - perhaps nearby Independents or even Democrats who felt it wise to at least get a feel for Prejean during his stop in NOLA.

"My oh my, energy abounds right now! First off, my most sincere gratitude for each and every one of you coming out today to listen to the only candidate in this election who is offering serious and legitimate proposals to serious and legitimate problems. I understand that you've all had to put up with such unbelievable incompetence, ranging from President Winston to local politicians such as Mayor Nay Ragin. Ya know, a lot of these folks think that they can campaign for just a single election and presume that they have an automatic career. For decades, these corrupt politicians in Washington continue to be re-elected and they continue to get absolutely nothing done. Washington is an absolute mess! I get it, and I'm willing enough to challenge that status quo. Should I be elected as your next Senator, term-limits will be on my agenda. Not only will be force these bums in Washington to consider how life will be after they've served a few years here and there, we'll also get fresh ideas circulating and eager faces who are willing to work across party lines to make sure things get done and in a way that you, the American people, are the real winners."

"Incompetence is a major issue. Unfortunately, we see it in the White House with Albert Winston - and we see it in Jason Larson as well. This is all the same incompetence that has led Louisiana at the state-level, and our nation at the national-level, into some very difficult situations. Unlike my opponent, whose sole plan seems to be 'getting tough on China or Mexico' - heck you might even get both depending on what day of the week it is, I have a plan to defeat ISIS and radical islam, which includes a No-Fly-Zone. I have a plan to apply pressure on China, particularly to push them on doing a better job on reigning in North Korea. I have a plan to deal with Russia's antics in both Ukraine as well as in Eastern Europe. I have a plan expand our influence on NATO, to incorporate NATO more in our broader mission of defending our interests across the world. I'm willing to address the fact that the Iranian Nuclear Program is an existential threat to the United States, and I will do everything I can to ensure that each and every one of you are protected. I am willing to state that Israel is, perhaps, our most important non-NATO ally in the world and that I will not tolerate any more demonizing of them by our own government whatsoever."

"Our country is a mess, our world is a mess, and that is all because our national leadership is a mess. The liberal agenda has continued to fail America, and we must elect someone who has the competence to oppose it in favor of a truly conservative vision for America. I hope to do my part to usher in a new renaissance for our nation as a United States Senator. With the right, conservative leadership, I believe that we can overcome the challenges that Winstonian incompetency has left us with to bring about a new American century of prosperity. We need to be smart, we need to get this right. We need a balanced-budget amendment. We need to reform our immigration system. We need to secure our borders. We need to free the markets, whether it be with our healthcare or with our energy. There is a lot that we need to do, and I intend to work with President Reed to ensure that the people of Louisiana have their concerns heard, addressed, and resolved. Mr. Larson sure does like to talk often about getting tough on China and getting tough Mexico, so much so that I wonder if he is ever going to start talking about you, or the issues that affect you the most on a daily basis. Such as repealing the Unaffordable Care Act and replacing it with legislation that frees up the market and encourages even more competition to help drive down costs or to invest in river diversion to help rebuild our coast naturally - protecting us from both erosion and dangerous storm surges from hurricanes or other tropical systems. Regardless of whether you are a Republican, a Democrat, a Progressive, or an Independent, I ask you to cast your vote against the incompetence of Winston and Larson and to vote for conservative leadership on December 12th. Thank you, and God bless!"

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Phillip smiles, waving, and starts singing along to the hometown favorite bluegrass tune 'Callin' Baton Rouge.' He doesn't particularly care if he looks like a fool, for he was enjoying himself and was liking the overall laid-back atmosphere of the event.

"Well, embarrassing myself in front of a couple thousand people is always fun." He looks out to see someone wearing a giant Prejean face mask in the audience, causing him to chuckle as he started his address. "My word, where do they even make those?!" He says, pointing the fella out in the audience. After sharing a good laugh for a few seconds, Prejean clears his throat and continues. "In case some of you aren't aware what you walked into, my name is Sergent Phillip Prejean of the United States Marine Corps. I still identify as such to this day, because there is no such thing as an ex-marine. I also used to be the proud Parish President of Jefferson Parish, and I am running to represent the state of Louisiana in the United States Senate. In other words, I'm here to make sure Jason Larson doesn't become a United States Senator." He says, garnering a few laughs.

"On a serious note, though. I know that Louisiana has been struggling, mightily. In 2012, Louisiana was ranked dead-last in the 'Camelot Index,' which is used to define the overall state of affairs in each of the states. This year, Louisiana is ranked as the unhappiest state in the nation for people to live. Gallup has Louisiana ranked far below average on their 2014 well-being rankings. So, what gives you may ask? Crime is becoming out-of-control, corruption seems to only be getting worse and worse, and businesses are getting crushed with so much red tape, so much bureaucracy, and so much redundant government mandating. Healthcare is becoming more and more unafforadable, thanks especially to Winstoncare, and so many people are left in a cycle of systemic poverty. My opponent likes to talk about how illegal immigrants are stealing jobs, I guess it is because it makes for a great sound clip and a fantastic straw-man argument, and wants to 'get tough on China and Mexico.' Those are the two biggest things he wants to do if he is elected as your next senator. Last time I checked, people aren't killing each other because we're not being tough enough on China. Our economy isn't in recession due to illegal immigrants hopping over the border. Seriously, this is what Jason Larson has said time and again, and I believe he has deceived enough people."

"Truth is, the economy is very dynamic. Market forces have always dictated what jobs are past and what jobs are present. Jason Larson would have you believe that illegal immigrants ended the telegram and horse-carriage industries. We find ourselves facing a very similar predicament, folks, and we have to make sure that government is not an inhibitor of progress - let it be by clinging onto jobs that are on their way out or by crushing up-and-coming industries through bruising regulations and mandates. This is the sort of thing that stifles creativity and kills an economy. We have to keep our eyes on the future as well as the present. We cannot have an effective solution that excludes one or the other. The solution, in my mind, is to make re-training more affordable and to find a way to have workers of dying industries participate in the workforce and the economy of the 21st century."

(OOC: Italicized text in first ad = Jason Larson direct voice-over.)
Advertisement begins with Larson making his final statements during the debate.

"My platform is based upon uniting every Louisianan and ensuring that the people of Louisiana be treated with the respect and dignity that y'all deserve."

"But is it really?"

"During a speech in Baton Rouge, after promising to protect people who are on social security, Jason Larson supported cutting regulations that protect one of our most vulnerable of society: the elderly."
Image
"During another speech, after promising to cut taxes, Jason Larson then made a complete reversal in the same speech and advocated for new taxes."
Image
"During a televised debate, after calling for improved education standards, Jason Larson offered no reforms to actually improve our schools. Only more government programs, and more wasteful spending of your tax dollars."
Image
"Jason Larson used a racial slur against a Democratic Colleague of his in the House Chamber in Baton Rouge."
Image
"Another against President-Elect Cal Reed."
Image
"Another against Senator Gianna Carrollton, and many, many more."
Image

Cut-scene to Larson in Shreveport.

"So that is my promise to all Louisianans that I will drain the swamp of corruption and filth with my common sense plan."

Image
"I would like to reiterate my main point of contention in this campaign, the fact that I am fighting for you."

"After eight years of inadequate and incompetent leadership, it is time to make a change."
Image
"A former Marine Corps Sergeant, Phillip Prejean has the vision to provide conservative leadership for America, and the conviction to stand up for Louisiana in Washington."
Image
"He can help revitalize our school system, which currently ranks last in the nation, just as he has turned around public schools during his time as Jefferson Parish President."
Image
"He is Pro-Life."
Image
"He wants to enact a Balanced Budget Amendment."
Image
"And he is the only one with an actual plan to drain the swamp in Washington, DC."
Image
"Vote for Phillip Prejean for United States Senate on December 12th. Vote for conservative leadership."

Marlowe Environment Rally
Grand Park
Los Angeles, California

Image

"Welcome everyone!"

Scotty smiled broadly. He was dressed in a more casual way, a breathable dress shirt with a pair of comfortable dress pants. Nothing fancy, nothing that screamed authority. In fact, it screamed causal dad but that was besides the point. He could see that the rally was larger than expected, hence the move to Grand Park. It was far bigger and if they hadn't, they would have probably caused a safety issue. Emma gave him a thumbs up from the side and he waved. A few in the crowd waved back, confusing his wave for her as a wave to them. Laughing, he did wave at them and took a quick breath before beginning.

People crowded, ready to listen.

"I am excited that you all were able to be here. The fact that we had a predicted turnout that we had to move to a larger park is a sign that this city is ready to listen to me and believes in me! And I have to say that that really is a humbling experience. I entered this mayoral race to make a difference and now, I feel as if people are more than ready to support me. They want to make a difference. And that's a great thing. So before I jump right in, I do want to ask everyone here and all of your friends, and your friends' friends: VOTE! LA has had some pretty low turnouts and we need to fix that up! So get out and vote! That's the least that every good citizen can do to make a difference. Even if that vote isn't for me (laughter), get out and vote!"

People laughed.

"This park, it deserves to be conserved, in all of its beauty. And so do the other parks around this city, all of them. Because they give us a break from the city life to enjoy ourselves and to anyone who has every been to a park, you know how special it is. Especially within a city like LA. But if we want this magnificent beauty that nature has given us, we sure are going to need to work hard. This means increase protections, especially in regards to zoning. We can't afford to lose these parks, no matter the cost. Everyone enjoys these, but not everyone will enjoy, say another apartment complex."

People cheered.

"But preserving the parks is just one part of it. Building new parks, parks with playgrounds, and increase park cleanliness are all things that I will strive to accomplish. Because the environment deserves protection and cities can play an important role in that. New parks can create new places for us to enjoy life, playgrounds increase the safety of children, giving them a secure place to have fun. And cleanliness, that make sure these parks remain as clean as they every will be. That is why I hope to increase the number of people working in our Parks Department to accomplish these goals."

Several people, of the older demographic, applauded.

"Not only will this create jobs that are needed now during this recession but it will allow us to keep Mother Nature safe and for all of us. The second part to making our environment clean is making sure that what we do it keeps us safe. Large scale oil drilling and other construction have placed both the geology of the city in jeopardy and in turn, us. It is clear that we need to do something and while I am not an expert on the issue, I will seek to become on. That is why I am planning with meeting with UCLA officials to come to some proposal, some solution, to help solve this problem."

He takes a bit of a darker tone.

"Our safety, and in turn, our lives, are at stake. And we must strive to keep ourselves safe. And while our present mayor has ignored many issues, I will not ignore what this city faces. And one of those many things is our environment. Thank you all for coming out! I'll be staying for a while, to sign things, take pictures, and more. I hope you support me in this campaign to fix things in our city, demand real action!"

The crowd cheered as Scotty gave a thumbs up. He smiled broadly, before descending into the crowd with a few staffers to organize the fans.
