Caldwell was surprised.

"I thought I told you about it in the e-mail? Anyway, let's get to work. Here's the draft of the bill I talked about."

Caldwell pulls out two papers and hands them to Enchanted and Alphonsey respectively

"I've been rather distracted these past couple of days."

Alphonsey read over the paper. "How on Earth will you get enough votes to pass this?"

I'm not even sure if @RepProssWV is being serious anymore. If he is, well then we actually have discount discount communist in government. The type of people my dad, a 2-star general, spent most of his career fighting against. This is more sad than funny.

Ella finishes looking over the bill. "We need a lot more details. This is the minimum wage, yes, but what about the wage for teenagers? What changes will we make for the minimum wage for tipped jobs? The changes should be more gradual, incremental. We could also discuss a making it a lower required wage for rural jobs and areas to help convince conservatives to join."

"If progressives want to stand strong as an ideology we have to work together. This is our chance to do so. And I'm not planning to do this entire thing on my own. There are still progressive democrats who would be willing to listen and support this idea. Party leadership will have to at least hear me out. Maybe it's too far-fetched in it's current form, but this is why we are here working on it."

Caldwell listens to Ella

"This is a good idea. I could've thought about it. I suggest a $12.5 minimum wage for rural jobs by 2024, maybe?"

The advertisement was supposed to be releases last week, on Thanksgiving. Winston's idiocy required it to by pushed back. Now, though, it was ready. The Progressives had a difficult road ahead of them in the years between the elections. This, to be aired nationwide, would tell the country what they were made of.

What happens next?

Times are changing. When the call comes for your support, who will you stand with?

Image

Image

Who will stand with you?

Image

In a time of deception, of shifting allegiances, of political bargaining, the Progressive Party will stand on principle-will stand for you.

United, we pledge to fight

We stand, as one, in defending a woman's most fundamental right, the right to her own body, her right to choose.

Image

We stand as one for true and full equality, equality in marriage, equality in adoption, and equality in being free from discrimination

Image

We stand as one for universal healthcare, for an America where everyone can be covered, and no one has to suffer without.

Image

We stand for holding the corrupt of Wall Street accountable-not being held accountable to them. We stand for the rejection of corporatism in politics.

Image

We stand for the protection of workers, we stand for a real, living, wage, and we stand for ending a broken tax system that has a billionaire pay less than his secretary.

Image

We stand for a military built for defense, and not for being the world's police. For diplomacy as the first resort, not the last

Image

We stand believing that preserving the environment for our children is worth more than the lucre of big oil, that conservation and renewable energy will lead us to a brighter future.

Image

We believe in treating all immigrants with the dignity and humanity that they deserve.

Image

We stand believing that no student should ever be denied higher education because of the inability to pay.

Image

We stand believing that politics should always be for the people.

Image

When all else is uncertain, you know where we stand.

We are the Progressive Party. And this is our Manifesto.

TREASON?

Leaks reveal secret release of Turkish prisoners in exchange for extradition of Secretary Garestaer

December 15, 2016

The story of Secreatary Garestaer has been a long and tangled one, the controversial young Representative, then Speaker, then Secretary of State weaving quite a tale, from the controversy of his potentially coerced appointment, to the attempted use of government resources to take Calvin Reed’s daughter, and to his relationship with, and possible defection to, President Erdogan and Turkey. Now, a new chapter is being added, and another to what seems to be the tragedy of President Winston as well.

Pieces of information and leaks have hinted at this controversy for some time, starting near the end of the election, but new revelations finally seem to paint a full enough picture to report on what may well be an impeachable offense.

First the background-Secretary Garestaer was known for making controversial statements in favor of Middle Eastern despots and authoritarian leaders, including Moammar Gadaffi, Bashar Al-Assad, and Recep Erdogan. On a diplomatic trip in the Middle East, Garestaer went to Turkey, and did not return. Allegations rose of defection and treason-others believed he was being held hostage.

Developments seemed to indicate the latter. Turkey stated that Garestaer would only be released if political prisoners and asylum seekers in the United States were released to the Erdogan’s government. President Winston, having previously pushed through a highly controversial action stripping Turkey of its membership in NATO, threatened the nation with “Unrestrained consequences” if Secretary Garestaer was not handed over.

No progress was seen over the next months, the Secretary believed to be held within the Presidential Palace in Ankara.

A sudden development came in the fall. The White House announced that a negotiating team lead by Henry Cain, currently awaiting Senate confirmation to replace Garestear as Secretary of State, successfully convinced President Erdogan to return Garestear to the United States in exchange for the removal of sanctions, and use of NATO logistics. The White House made two claims. The first, that Secreatary Garestear had “placed foreign interests above his own.” which “in simplest terms-is treason.” (It should be noted that this is not the Constitutional definition of treason.) The White House was unyielding in its presumption of Garestaer’s guilt, saying “we are not entertaining the possibility” that he might be found innocent.

The second claim was laid out quite explicitly. To quote, “No Turkish asylum seekers in the U.S. were traded. Let me repeat that, not a single one of Erdogan's requested citizens were turned over due to the strong negotiators we had. The United States made this deal, but did not sacrifice its reputation as a home for political prisoners.”

This second claim was doubted. President-Elect, then candidate Calvin Reed, who has a noted personal history with Garestaer, said on the campaign trail. “Secretary Garestear is going to be returned to the United States. I don’t rightly know how they got him back, and I don’t know if I trust it. Someone like Erdogan who said he’d never turn Garestaer over unless we released prisoners over to him deciding to acquiesce so suddenly raises my hackles. I don’t know what was done, but I don’t trust it, and I don’t think that we’ve seen anything from this President that indicates that he is worthy of receiving the benefit of the doubt.”

We can now say with almost complete certainty that the second claim made by the White House was a lie.

Scattered reports have now coalesced. At this point, we now have reports, image, a whistleblower testimony, and the testimony of an escaped asylum seeker confirming the story-asylum seekers in the United States were traded to President Erdogan in exchange for Jay Garestaer. Details will continue to emerge, but one thing seems almost certain-the White House directly lied to the American people.

The effects of this could be far-reaching. President Winston, currently under criticism for his handling of the Mississippi Affair, and at present the most unpopular President in American history, faces another hammer-blow, and likely impeachable offense. Henry Cain, whose appointment as Secretary of State has been stonewalled by Senate Majority Leader Kiser, is essentially guaranteed to be rejected, and will likely face charges. The Democratic Party, slowly climbing from its nadir, now faces another massive scandal against its most prominent member. Secretary Garestaer, under investigation from the Department of Justice and with impeachment proceedings in process in the House of Representatives, now has more questions on his situation, including whether he truly is the guilty party.

Whether treason, corruption, or perjury, the last note of the Winston administration is coming out sour.

"Smart. But also risky. Also isn't the average income close to three thousand dollars per month or something like that?"

Caldwell starts to count

"Fifteen times eight is... hundred twenty, times five... about... 600? that times four is... two thousand four hundred I think. By making it a certain percentage of that we might make it lower but if our economy would grow this could prove beneficial."

Caldwell opens one of the drawers in his desk and pulls out a calculator

"This might prove useful."

He then puts it on the desk and closes the drawer.

"I think the average income is forty-two thousand a year." She uses the calculator. "If you work two thousand hours, then half of average would be around ten dollars an hour. That's actually lower than I thought. Three-quarters as the final goal would be a better fit."

Schmidt's Office, Derby City Hall, Derby Conneticut

In his office, the mayor sat. He sipped a glass of water, and dialed a number on his phone. To who? Senator Chelsea Medina's AIDS charity. He let it call.

"Hello, this is Mayor Schmidt of Derby, Conneticut speaking. Is there any chance that I can be directed to Senator Median or a spokesperson?" Schmidt asked the Secretary on the other line.

"Would that be good in terms of numbers though. Let me see."

Henry starts counting on his calculator

"fourty-two thousand divided by four is ten thousand five hundred. Now that times three - because we're talking about three-quarters pay - is thirty-one thousand five hundred dollars. Divided by twelve it's two thousand six hundred twenty five..."

He then does a couple more of things on his calculator

"...this would give us a minimum wage of sixteen dollars and fourty cents. Something doesn't seem right... If this calculation is correct then this idea would be fantastic."

He then pulls out a pen from his jacket's pocket.

"There are clearly some changes that need to be made. This idea with three-quarters is good, but as I see this timing won't work. I suggest throwing both dates out and establishing a new timeline."
