“How you doing Cavaliers? I know you guys are worried about the storm, and not being able to go back to your families. Its going to be a hard few days but I came to make those days a little easier. Inside these bins is food, water, and blankets for all of you; I know its not one of your moms home cooked meals but its the closest I could find and its all for you; and yes the faculty too. So come on down and get your supplies, and please be safe during this storm. You've already made it this far and you don't want things to end because you wanted to go to a Hurricane party.” Murray and the students laughed.

“Sir insiders at the White House are telling us that Secretary Turner just resigned,” Murrays campaign manager said.

“Yes, but I'm going to have to bargain. If I can negotiate with Indiana republicans, I can negotiate with Keiran Turner.

The campaign manager called Turner's number and handed Governor Murray the phone.

“Hello, Karien its Kailen, I just got the news.”

"Sir, Susan just transferred the Governor of Virginia to my phone," Alix, Murrays campaign manager said.

"What does the Governor of Virginia want?"

"I don't know he didn't say, he just said he needs to speak with you."

"Give me the phone but let me know as soon as Turner picks up."

Governor Murray switched phones with Alix and cleared his throat.

With one hand over the phone he said, "Whats his name?"

"Bell, sir."

"Ah thanks," he said removing his hand and placing the phone to his ear, "Governor Bell, what can I do for you?"

Bell breathed a sigh of relief as the call finally connected, pushing himself to his feet, and opening the door with his shoulder, his hand occupied with the phone, to take advantage of the brisk winter air as he took the call.

"Governor Murray, a pleasure to finally speak to you. I would welcome you to the Commonwealth of Virginia, but it seems you have already made yourself quite at home."

Governor Murray could sense the annoyance in his counterparts voice, "I do apologize if I've stepped on any toes, but I'm simply trying to help the people of Virginia since it looks like they're going to get the worst of the storm. I trust that you can understand that."

(OOC: I thought I had responded to this earlier in the morning. Apparently didn't. I've been busy, volunteering in Baton Rouge, helping with the relief effort there.)

The Senator, still at the cafe, just smirks and responded with two tweets to Governor Kuznetsov's one. By now, at least a few dozen journalists are dialing up their sources in an attempt to figure out what exactly is going on between the Kuznetsov-Carrollton feud that is evidently brewing. Twitter as a whole begins to get quite interesting, with responses and mentions being made of both of them -- some supporting either candidate, others not quite as amicable to either of them. Meanwhile, the underground journalist (realizing just how lucky he was to be at the right place at the right time) slowly picks up his phone, video-taping the Senator, as she gets up from the table, smirking widely, and stepping out of the cafe. He posts the video online, unintentionally providing proof to the social media world that Carrollton was, indeed this whole time, in Washington as opposed to Kuznetsov's previously-held belief. The video itself, as well as screenshot frames of it, begins to go somewhat viral throughout Facebook and Twitter. This quickly grabbed headlines on a very slow news day, only to be overshadowed by updates on Hurricane Bonnie as well as news regarding the sudden resignation of the Speaker. The latter two quickly overtook that Twitter exchange, and it became quite the busy news day.




Later that day...

Senator Carrollton exited the Capital Building, surrounded by a horde of journalists, asking her everything from the lack of a Democratic nominee for the Speaker position, to the approaching Hurricane Bonnie, to any ill-wills between herself and Kuznetsov, as well as for her opinion on the incredibly disrespectful actions of exiting-speaker Garestaer. Normally, she would never be bugged with such persistent questions. Why would she? She's just the junior senator from Ohio, but now things are different now that she is not only a presidential candidate, but one with the potential to start separating herself from the pack. That carries even more weight to her opinion, as she is quickly coming to learn. Simply shrugging off journalists would no longer be an option, so she decided to hold an impromptu news conference.

Reporter 1: "Senator, do you feel like the growing feud between yourself and New Hampshire Governor Irina Kuznetsov has gone a bit too far?"
Carrollton:"Feud? What 'feud?' I don't see any 'feud' happening at all. I saw an inappropriate attack at an inappropriate time against another candidate, and I responded to it. That's all it was."
Reporter 2: "Senator! Senator, some suspect that your defense of Governor Murray has more to do with the fact that you either seek his endorsement or that you seek to keep him from lashing out against you in a ploy to pull away the moderate, establishment votes away from you. What do you say to these allegations, that there is a greater scheme at play?"
Carrollton: "You mean a conspiracy? No, absolutely no conspiracy. The Governor and myself have notable differences of opinion, which I'm sure we'll engage each other on at some point, but we both have naturally optimistic campaigns. We keep it respectful, classy, and avoid the divisive bickering and childish banter you see among the Republican candidates. I think that speaks clearly as to which party's candidates have the more quality field, but I'm obviously biased... so."
*crowd of journalists laugh*
Reporter 3: "Senator! What are your thoughts on out-going Speaker Garestaer? Who do you wish to see replace him?"
Carrollton:"Well, I was honestly disappointed in how he carried himself. A man of such responsibility ought to carry himself with appropriate dignity. The Speaker is a tough job. Now, of course, the Speaker of the House has no bearing on our proceedings as the Senate, but I do wish to see someone who will be willing to take the lead and to unite not only both houses of Congress but both Republican and Democratic caucuses of each."
Reporter 4: "Senator Carrollton, it seems as though the Twitter exchange between yourself and Governor Kuznetsov centralized around Hurricane Bonnie. What do you have to say to those who think you are in the wrong on this issue?"
Carrollton: "Come on over to the light." *proceeds to smile*
*crowd responds with chuckling*
"But on a serious note, I think her actions ought to give us a moment to pause and reflect on what genuinely matters. There is a Hurricane approaching, and she's spouting off about someone's Twitter typo and then attacking me for pointing out the hypocrisy in her own actions. I don't know what else there is to say, but that her and I have a major difference in our priorities. I'm going to hold fundraisers tonight across Washington, DC to help with the relief effort, while she's posing for photo ops in the streets of Boston. Those things alone tell you everything you need to know about how and where we differ."
Reporter 5: "Senator, what do you have to say to those who cite Speaker Garestaer's strange antics as being due to concerted efforts by House Democrats to oppose him at every opportunity?"
Carrollton: "I'm not even a member of the house, so I don't don't know anything about any efforts to stop anyone. All I know is that I think I would give an apology if I were Speaker Garestaer, because that was just absolutely despicable. We deserve better from him, and to be quite frank, he deserves better from himself."
Reporter 6: "Senator! Senator Carrollton! Senator, have you seen the video and frameshots taken of you at the cafe, allegedly during your Twitter exchange with Governor Kuznetsov? Some suggest he was a plant. What do you have to say about that?"
Carrollton: "I say, I don't know what is up with you people obsessing over anything that happens between the Governor and I. Besides, no I have not seen anything of that sort as I have been in my office the whole day reading up on upcoming bills and proposals. One more question."
Reporter 7: "Senator, do you believe that the FEMA bill will be adequate financial support for the New England area? Or do you support bigger measures and authorizations?"
Carrollton: "Truthfully, I voted for the FEMA bill, because I knew that regardless of what happened, it would have been money well-spent. This is the sort of thing that Washington needs, and it's bills like these that I am proud to support. I cannot say anything about going up-and-beyond what we've done, being that we simply cannot foresee just how costly or devastating Hurricane Bonnie will be. I think we need to exercise prudence, by letting the storm take its' course, and for us to make appropriate legislative actions in response to the situation we have at-hand."

She then dismissed the others, persisting reporters as she heads back home. From there, she dresses up for a gala organized by the Carrollton Campaign to benefit the fundraising effort to raise the millions as-pledged by Carrollton herself and all the other candidates. After all, she wasn't a millionaire, but she did have contacts and (as of particularly recent) political sway.

As reports of the first refugees arrived they exceeded expectations, all of the, even the highest ones that people originally scoffed at. Twenty thousand refugees in total asked about accommodations in Vermont,not a small figure by any margin whatsoever even for New York, let alone Vermont. However very fortunately the donations just kept coming in, along with more than ten thousand households volunteering to a shelter for the time being. Now the problem was just getting the refugees in the state. However, the governor got another lucky break many companies eager to get free positive publicity eagerly lender the governor their trucks, buses, and any vehicle that could haul stuff would be working to haul people into Vermont and functioning as makeshift shuttle buses.

Crewed by volunteer bus drivers a huge amount of burly men from Vermont and other states, getting free meals provided for by the locals at designated 10 staging areas across the entire state, there the refugees would be helped into cars by the locals who volunteered to house the refugees. The entirety of the Vermont National Guard was mobilized to help the effort. Keeping peace at the staging areas and making sure that the areas do not devolve into anarchy.

The governor had did all he could do, and mobilized the entire state of Vermont to help with the evacuation of the refugees, however there was still work to be done. He had to contend with the resettlement of the refugees once the storm ends, and for that he could not do that alone, for that he needed the support of other governors in New England, the vast majority of the refugees came from the neighbouring state of MA, and the rest came from the other New England states.

"The Democratic race is growing hotter, as Hurricane Bonnie has led to infighting between the candidates. Today we have one of the front-runners, Governor Kuznetsov, here to speak about these fights. Welcome, Governor."

"Thanks, love being here. Let's get to it."

"All right, we will jump right in. Do you think that your calling out of Governor Murray was inappropriate?"

"Not even a little bit. When we have times of trouble we need to be even more on the lookout for politicians and elites trying to exploit or manipulate the people and that is what Murray was doing. He made an offer of money and that is great and all but then he changed it because he cared more about getting publicity then about actually giving away the money he cares about so much. He said he worked for it but all of that big money is from his parents. He never earned that much. Then he tries to lie to the people and say that it was about "raising" that much money which is a bunch of baloney. He keeps on trying to backtrack, and now we have Carrollton who I thought was a good and honest candidate defending him rather than holding him accountable, defending a doubletalker and a liar."

"You are totally convinced that Murray is irredeemable then?"

"If Murray actually got around and donated that twenty million or actually went out and gave away most of his inheritance, to relief then I would say that he redeemed himself, but he expects all the candidates to donate a million dollars and it shows just how out of touch he is thinking that everyone has a million dollars lying around. That may be true for him, but it is not true for most Americans, who do not know what it is like to have that much money right on hand. He worked for his money for a little while, but now he is back in the entitled class."

"What about the "feud" between you and Carrollton?"

"I was never looking for this sort of fight, but I guess she was. She actually came out and accused me of being corrupt because I was helping in Boston at the front lines. And where was she? She was helping with the hurricane efforts in South Carolina, hundreds of miles away from the hurricane? Do you know what state votes next? South Carolina. I had high hopes for Carrollton. I thought that she was a good, honest, politician, but when you ditch the people who are actually in danger, to "help", that is, pander, well behind the front lines, just to get votes, then you have forgotten what this election is all about. It is about helping the people, the oppressed and those in danger and I do not care if I do not get a single vote in South Carolina, I am going to help the people who need it most."

"You have been accused of undermining efforts to create unity in response to this threat. What is your response to that?"

"You want to see some unity? Carrollton and Murray don't have it. Have you heard about Virginia? The whole state is going crazy because he is doing one thing and the Governor is doing another, and no one is getting helped. Where is the unity there? He is just running around getting publicity, and making things worse for everyone. If you want unity look at Vermont and New Hampshire. Governor Danders is a rival of mine, but look at what he has done. He has gone and made programs to help the people without trying to pander, or make a publicity stunt. We are working together to actually help the people, unifying, not lobbing attacks like Carrollton. Helping people, not trying to manipulate them.

Now, if you excuse me, I have work to do."
