A day after the Ultra Tuesday results came in, Senator Corey Patrick had gone back down to D.C. for a very important announcement. With the final primary being held in the city in just a few days, Patrick wanted to ensure that his endorsement counted. He would be making a speech at Howard University, a historically Black College, making this event all the more significant.
Once Patrick arrived on stage, the young, mostly Black crowd cheered wildly. The Michigan Senator waved back at them, as he went up to the podium, and signalled to the audience that he would begin.
"I would like to begin by thanking the University for allowing me to speak here today. It truly is an honor to be here at one of the most successful Colleges in America. Howard has shown their care for every student enrolled, no matter their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. This is liberty, my friends. These are the values of freedom and opportunity that this country stands for, and the same values shared between all of us, as Americans!" The crowd cheered at these remarks.
"We as Americans believe that everyone - no matter how poor - deserves a chance to succeed, and that nobody should be left behind when they are left off less fortunate. We believe that all citizens deserve to be treated equally, that the color of your skin does not make you lesser than others. We believe that everyone has the right to freedom of speech, that we the people should have a right to speak up without being silenced. We believe in a President that fights for all Americans, not just those at the top!" The crowd went wild.
"We have got to elect someone who will serve the American people, someone who will preserve minority rights in this country, and someone who ensure that America stays on track in the world. I believe that this election is a choice between the future, and the past. Do we want to move to the future, and put in place progressive policies that will protect workers, minorities, and women from discrimination? Or do we want to take America backwards, and undo the social progress that we have built in the past eight years?" Many in the crowd shouted "no!" at this.
"The choice in this election seems very clear. I believe that it is time we put a true fighter in the White House, and I believe that that person is Governor Robby Danders!" Many audience members cheered, but some Kuznetsov and Conti supporters stayed silent.
"Governor Danders has dedicated his life fighting for the common man. He has fought for the fast food employee, who struggles to make it on minimum wage. He has fought for the African-American, who still suffers from discrimination across this country. He has fought for the young College graduate, who would otherwise be buried under obscene amounts of student debt. Most importantly, he has fought for all of us! Governor Danders believes in real change! He believes in Progressive change that has been the driving force of this country, and he has never given up on it once!" The crowd cheered loudly.
"I am supporting Governor Danders because he is the only candidate who can effectively bring the common-sense reform that we have been working for into action! He is the only candidate in the Democratic primaries who has focused on America, not on attacking other candidates! He will be a leader for Democrats, Republicans, Independents, for all Americans together!" More cheering.
"When you cast your ballot next week, and in November, think about who has actually put in place criminal justice reform, tuition free College, and a working healthcare system. Governor Danders has done all of that in Vermont, and he will do it again as President of the United States! So, let's get out and vote next week, and let's win this thing in November!" The audience cheered wildly as Patrick concluded his short address, and slowly got off the stage. After shaking hands with a few people he passed by, he left the College, and went back to Capitol Hill.
