Let us begin with the facts. We will lose Governorships in 2018. I know this. This cannot be avoided. I accept this. But we will gain far more. Look at the map for the Senate again, more closely. See how perfect it is. Let us limit ourselves from too much excitement. The states that we know we can take. The coasts are open. In Vermont, we have the most perfect example of what a Republican candidate looks like that we could ever ask for. We have a deeply Progressive state more than willing to vote away from the Republicans or the Democrats, and a whipping boy in Fowler to make sure those votes in center come to us as well. In Massachusetts, we have an Independent Republican who will take votes from his own side and in a state that we won, and can win again. In Rhode Island we are moving and Thatcher will continue to move our message that we are the only ones that can drive out the illogical Republican dominance that has set up there. The people of Rhode Island do not want a wall-building, gun-toting, healthcare-cutting, abortion-bashing extremist like Egazarian. The Democrats have failed completely to stop him. We will be the ones that do. The other coast. Washington we would have won without that nonsensical change in election rules. We have an opponent who destroyed himself by trying to absolve Winston. Now it is ours. California, we already triumphed in. We can repeat.

Five states. Leave aside Maryland, Hawaii, Maine and all the others even as promising as they are. Just those five are eminently winnable. Five seats to pick up. And what of the Democrats? Do they truly think they can hold Missouri? North Dakota? Montana? The only liberal state with a Republican defending would have been Connecticut, but it will be a special election instead. No one is flipping Alabama, Wyoming, Texas. The Republicans will be gaining in the midterms if there is not a total collapse between now and then. Unfortunately, we cannot stop that. But the Democrats will lose. That is just as inevitable. It is what we make of these inevitabilities that matters.

In our first year we gained enough to have a voice, a small one, but strong, while the Democrats fall apart. Now we will gain again, and double our numbers, while the Democrats collapse even further. The nation will be ready to here our truth. The truth. We are the only party that can stop the Republicans. The only party that truly fights for the left. The Democrats are the spoiler, not us. We have a record of victory, they have a record of failure. We are growing, they are collapsing. Join or Die.

The Democratic party is rotted, but sways on its feet. While they still are there to split the vote, the Republicans will continue to win. We are the future of the left. They are the fading remnant of the past. The left will win again when all of America fully realizes that it is over for them. Our victories in 2018 will bring that realization.

2020 will be a landmark. We will cement ourselves with another candidate in the debates and on the polls. We will have them know we are a true party. But it is 2018 where our victory will be truly begun. After that is deresolution.

"I certainly intend to work on continuing to grow the grassroots. I am not overly confident in being able to secure many majorities. Likely Washington, perhaps Oregon, but we will most likely be the opposition or a plurality in most other states."

"Thank you for offering a different perspective, nonetheless."

She then glances down at her wristwatch to check on the time.

"Anything else you'd like to talk about? I'm sure you've got quite a busy rest of the day, so I certainly don't want to hold you up, but I've got plenty of time if there was anything else that you'd like to discuss."

"I have not gotten the chance to see any debates yet. I will be watching for the one opening next week. Regardless, I have been accused of being a cynic, but I do not think a victory is likely. At this stage, the Republican wave has not receded. That does not mean we will not put effort into the race. Defeating the Democratic candidate will be a strong showing for our legitimacy. I would not raise my hopes for a final victory just yet. I do not oppose enthusiasm if you wish to hope for it. Our strategy will of course depend on which Democratic candidate is finally chosen and who we find to run."

Buck Havich glances at his watch and notices the waiter lurking nearby. "Well, I am afraid that we have to go before they kick us out. The restaurant is closing." He flashes a winning smile and shakes the hands of both of the Brennans again, and Saga does the same after him. "I will speak to the President-Elect about the race. I am sure that there is a bargain that we can make."

Leaving a Benjamin on the table, Havich takes his wife's arm in his and leads her back to the waiting Viper before peeling off into the night.
