[The first Galactic Republic]

When I make a character RP I love storytelling. I don't like faction RPs though unless there's real gameplay involved.

That being said gameplay will be more important than story. But there is a story you can be involved with if you want.

There are roughly three actually. A more standard linear storytelling experience will unfold through random events. Those represent real challenges in gameplay by the way. You can't just talk your way out of them.

Another story aspect that only progresses though player interaction is finding out what the hell happened to Earth. After all if the whole system is just gone, surely that's something you want to look into.

Finally something I think is kind of unique and cool is slowly unveiling the backstory over time. From our time period right now RL to the loss of Earth the history of the Earth government and details about its structure will be unveiled as the RP goes on. For those who like backstory, they'll be rewarded as the RP goes on. You'll slowly learn more and more about how the government rose to power, humanity's first steps into the stars, the the increasingly oppressive policies of the government.

That last part especially is what I would appreciate contributions towards.

I would be happy to contribute to the backstory, I have something in the works right now. Actually we can probably integrate "On The Shoulder of Giants" as a prequel to this RP.

Sounds cool in general.

General populace and around the world on missions. Not everyone will like the fact a god blessed them randomly and forced responsibilities upon them.

Even worse: Teen Titans Go was shoved in our faces as "Your new favorite show!" (Mind, this had a half-star review on IMDB for quite a while). Now that they've rebooted Powerpuff Girls (with elementary-school girls twerking, and changing the focus to slice-of-life), they're packaging them both as "Your new favorite shows", despite PPG being almost universally hated from its premiere.

TTG around its start for like 2 months had 8 hour marathons, but they didn't have enough episodes, so it was like 8 hours of the same 2 really bad episodes over and over again. Sometimes, they'd marathon the same episode on repeat for hours.

That was annoying. That show ate up most of Cartoon Network rapidly with barely any episodes.

And now they're bundling it with a show that has near 0 support, reusing the same slogan.

After an Invasion by Aliens from another Galaxy (think Yuuzhan Vong from Star Wars EU) the Galactic Community disintegrated. In order to maintain control over the colonies, the United Human Confederacy (Earth Government) takes more direct control over the colonies. Slowly becoming more dictatorial. Angered by this, the Colonies rebel against the Earth and destroy it with something call a Planet Cracker. Earth is destroyed and history is rewritten so that nobody finds out the war crimes committed by the Colonial Alliance. Now it is a few hundred years after the destruction of Earth and people have forgotten about what happened, and now the Colonies are fighting with each other over who is the Confederacy's successor.

If you're serious about actually combining canons then I should probably explain how things are in my universe. Things are open to change of course.

Tech level is maybe a bit more primitive than Mass Effect or Halo. A big part of my RP is that technology would change over time. At the beginning the technology to have interstellar fleets and colonies just isn't there. Earth didn't let it fall into the hands of the colonies. Players discover all that. Eventually the colonies become more advanced than Earth ever was. You start looking at immortality, energy based weapons, large scale industrialization on a scale never before seen, huge interstellar fleets, super humans, etc.

Notably my RP wouldn't have any intelligent aliens. I thought it was important to emphasize that the conflicts and ideologies that arise in the RP are uniquely human. Having aliens undermines that. For example I think if there was an intelligent alien civilization, the colonies wouldn't want independence so much as they would be too afraid of it. It would create an us vs them situation I don't want to explore so much. I want to emphasize that human nature and behavior is responsible for this universe. For everything good and bad in it.

About the Aliens, maybe we can handwave it by having the Aliens stuck on their side of the Galaxy due to the war.

Well I was thinking this was humanity's first venture into the stars. Maybe three hundred years into the future is when the RP starts, with the first extra-solar colony being founded two hundred years from now. You have this idea that there is already a spacefaring humanity before the RP starts though. Could you elaborate a bit on this galactic community?

Also I don't know how I feel about the colonies blowing up Earth directly. It's important to the plot that Earth kept technology and weapons out of the colonies' hands. That's why players in the RP would start with very little.

Well it doesn't have to be destroyed.

The Galactic Community had a thing called the Orion Security Council, that served as the Alliance against the Aliens. Humanity is already pretty spacefaring during the war. Most of the technology is lost so it has a used future, firefly aesthetic.

The United Human Confederacy was formed in the 2070s due to pressures on Earth Resources. It was designed to pool together the resources of Earth and the Solar Colonies for the common good of mankind. FTL was discovered in the 2030s and from then on Humanity rapidly spread throughout the stars, having colonized 80 planets by the start of the 23rd Century when they come into first contact with the Galactic Community. After going to war with the Eid-Ordo Empire, they soon became a Great Power in the Galactic Community all the way until the arrival of the Scolasii (The Extra-Galactic Invaders) in 2380. The war lasted for 20 years before the Treaty of Rylon was signed, ending the war.

After the war most of the Galaxy was in ruins, dozens of sentient species was extinct or endangered and the economy was in tatters. In response to this the Confederacy's central government decided to exponentially increase the authority of the central government, causing the Colonies to rebel. Forming a grand fleet, the Colonials invaded Earth and destroyed every last vestige of the old Earth Governments. Erasing records of their deeds and erasing the Confederacy from history. Most historians just assume the Earth disappeared.

From then on the Colonies pursued their own path, carving their own empires from the remnants of the Confederacy. And the aliens? They're reduced to myth and legend as many Empires and Species no longer have the capability of leaving their local group of stars.
