Not only does this make them easy to dehumanise, it links them in with Cold War-era sci-fi where the aliens were bad stand-ins for communism in the western world. The combination of ease of dehumanisation, the easy comparison between both the inherent nature of an at hive, say, and communism and the generally large numbers of ants in any engagements with the qualitatively superior human beings makes them an easy comparison for a NATO vs Warsaw Pact engagement. In the Cold War, when memetic warfare was quite intensive, this was exploited to the maximum, to the point where even after the end of the Cold War we still have a lingering cultural dislike of swarms of alien bugs.

Simple, just use Psionic ambassadors. Convince the aggressive hivemind you, too, are a hivemind. It only dislikes singleminded species. Hivemind species are easy to get along with.
