Space, it is the final frontier that all races strive to reach and hold within their grasp, to expand their influence and grip on the galaxy's vast expanse to gain the answer to questions long since asked by each primitive race "Are we truly alone in the Universe?". As each species establishes their hold over a small piece of the massive pie that is the Galaxy, their answer eventually reveals itself through a number of scenarios that were long since thought hypothetical that they are not alone in the Universe. The Galaxy is teeming with life that you can unite under your rule diplomatically, or in a militaristic fashion akin to a hostile business takeover. However, as you leave your mark in the Galaxy, there is a very likely chance that you shall stumble upon nations of either equal or overwhelming power. How you respond to these foreign powers is up to you, but know that as the sun begins to set upon the Galaxy, the stars shall shine upon the Galaxy, it's majestic twilight shall replace the rays of the once mighty sun.

Welcome wayward traveler to the Twilight of the Galaxy, a Space Age and Future Tech RP that is a pure sandbox-type Rp where the individual player can forge their own story and make their own desires a reality in the vast expanse that is Intergalactic Space. In this adventure into obtaining an understanding of the stars that surround us, you have the ability to start off as one of the many Intergalactic Factions that have either made their mark in and around the regions that surround them, or even being a relatively fresh, young Empire that has formally established itself in the vast expanse that houses countless other species with a hidden potential, you could even play as an Early Space Age Nation that has only recently pierced the veil of their atmosphere in order to answer the long-wondered question that permeates our hearts and minds "Are we alone in the Universe?" If that isn't enough, then perhaps you would prefer to be a shadowy organization that has become either a influential or new face in the Galactic Black Market, or even play as a Smuggler or Bounty Hunter who simply desires to make a living by illicit means. Regardless of what path you choose for yourself in this Era of Prosperity, anything is possible as long as you, the player make it a reality.

While I believe that this will not be a problem here in Twilight of the Galaxy, I've also come to the conclusion that this could potentially be a lore-wise issue to anyone who is willing to Rp as their Lore-established nation, thus it is my own personal opinion to establish a limit to the sizes of certain Starship classes, which are as followed:
  • Star Dreadnoughts (Largest Ship you have): 81 Kilometers/50.3311 Miles
  • Dreadnoughts (2nd Largest Ship): 65 Kilometers/40.3891 Miles
  • Carriers (Usually used to house a vast Starfighter/Bomber & Ground Assault forces, not used for Offensive purposes): 57 Kilometers/35.4182 Miles
  • Capital Ship/Battleships (Mainstream Command Vessel for Fleets): 41 Kilometers/25.4762 Miles

Beyond Capital Ships and Battleships, I will allow a flexible size for any other ship class with the exception of the four ships that have already been categorized.

History Of Your Nation: The Jelarais Federation was first founded on the homeworld, 1,600 years ago, when the nations of the world united under one banner and ended the "Age of War," due in large part of the introduction of the universal religion of the Niktal: The Way. The Way is more of a lifestyle than a religion, and is followed to some degree by almost every member of the Nitkal species. It was founded by a wandering pilgrim named Golas Duhar during the Age of War, when the Nitkal were prone to severe and crippling wars over little more than imagined insults or small tracts of land. He preached that if the Nitkal continued on their destructive path, it would lead to the extinction of their species. He proclaimed that the only way for them to prosper was to follow The Way and seek true knowledge of themselves and, by extension, the world around them. The war-ravaged people of Jelarais found merit in his dogmas of cooperation and inner peace, and it soon came to be that most Nitkal were clamoring for their leaders to learn The Way and stop their campaigns of violence. Within two decades of Golas Duhar's death by old age, the Nitkal people were united under one banner and working together for the advancement of their entire species.

Unlike the mostly feudal systems that came before it, the rapid societal change brought about by the introduction of The Way into their culture prompted the creation of a democratic republic that has functioned smoothly for the duration of the Federation. When the Nitkal first achieved FTL travel via Warp Drive and began colonizing planets, the nine colonized worlds were given a voice in the representative body almost immediately after stabilizing their local governments, which were modeled after the Federation's own. So far, the Jelarais Federation has made no contact with sentient alien life, but they are searching.

Weapons Tech:
Energy Projectors: The Energy Projector is a weapon only found on Federation Battlecruisers, the largest and most heavily armed ships in the Federal Navy. The weapon fires a beam of extremely powerful and energetic particles. It is possible to predict when an energy projector is about to fire as it typically charges the beam before firing, creating a visible maelstrom of energy. The beam has an effective range of over 100,000 kilometers, when focused. The beam resembles pulse lasers but are tinged silver white, which is similar to the scintillation effect that is seen when a Federation ship's energy shields are hit. The energy projector's beam can be seen as either a needle-thin beam capable of gutting large starships from stem to stern with incredible accuracy; or a wide-angle, slightly less powerful beam with a limited range, used to sweep large contingents of smaller craft, such as fighters, when they close in on the Battlecruiser that the weapon is mounted on.

Antimatter Torpedoes:Torpedoes capable of traveling at a fraction of the speed of light, armed with an antimatter warhead designed to have a variable yield. The torpedoes can be set to destroy targets the size of a small radio tower, or to destroy massive starships with a direct hit to the right area.

Directed EMP Pulse Generators: EMP pulse generators are weapons built in to a very specific breed of warship, taking up every part of the ship's body that is not dedicated to energy or ship control. They are capable of delivering massive, powerful, and directed EMP pulses that can overwhelm most conventional defenses against EMP hardening. These weapons, when utilized properly, can disable entire fleets and end a battle before anyone actually gets hurt.

Handheld Directed Energy Beams: Phasers are classified as particle weapons and fire excited streams of nadion particles, capable of everything from disrupting the neural activity of most organic beings to completely destabilizing the strong and weak nuclear forces that hold atoms together, causing the target of the beam to completely disintegrate, depending on how powerful the beam is set.

Ship Tech: Warp Drive, Antimatter-Dilithium reactors, Neutronium-Titanium alloy hulls, dedicated cyberwarfare AI suites, ship design geared against boarding, unmanned Spacefighter Drones run by "Smart" AI designed to throw up sensor interference and attempt to do damage to any external ship systems their weapons can reach.

Personal Armor: Sealed suits of carbon Nanotubes, ceramics, reactive blast gel, motorized joints, personal shield powered by microfusion cell, and onboard computer run by "Dumb" AI.

Military Population: 1.2 billion

Military Branches:

Federation Defense Force: A force of over 1.2 billion troops, this is the name for the main body of the Jelaras military. It is not normally fully mobilized, and in peacetime only maintains a 20% readiness rating. This FDF includes all ground and space-based military forces for the federation, and contains several sub-branches within itself.

Federal Navy: This branch consists of every star ship and naval officer in the Federation, capping out at about 550,000,000 at full readiness. Jelaras ships are long and sweeping, reminiscent of a spear point, with the average size being between 800-1.2 km long depending on the class of the ship. These vessels are designed with maneuverability and firepower in mind, not sustained firefights or long sieges. The largest ships are the Golas-Class carriers, at over 3 km long and 2.5 km wide, filled with thousands of one-person starfighters.

Federal Army This branch consists of all ground troops and equipment, consisting of about 450,000,000 troops at full readiness. The Army is divided into Divisions, then Batallions, then Companies, and then further into specialized Units for specific jobs. The army is most effective at assault, hit-and-run, and flanking tactics, with low emphasis on head-on assault in any ground conflict. With this in mind, their equipment and mentality is based around mobility, able to pick up and move at a moments notice should it become necessary.

Rapid Insertion Shock Troopers (RIST): An elite taskforce of 150,000,000, the RIST are shock troops dropped from orbit in Single Occupant Insertion Pods (SOIP), oftentimes behind enemy lines. They are given the best training, equipment, and armor, because they have the most important job. If the normal army proves unable to take a hardpoint, the RIST's are deployed to soften up the enemy and open the way for the main forces to do their jobs. The Niktal in this division are the most physically fit, best trained, and most psionically capable members of their entire species. They are entrusted with one job and one job only: to do what no one else can do.

Engineering Corps: The engineering corps is 50,000,000 troops strong, consisting of combat and civil engineers trained to build and rebuild in warzones, or to help establish new colonies when habitable planets are discovered. While trained in regular combat, they are not intended to be front line soldiers for the most part, more to reestablish infrastructure and build when there is a need for it.

Military Strengths: Cyberwarfare, ground tactics, hit-and-run warfare.

Military Weaknesses: Prolonged firefights, fleet tactics.

Here, there be dragons.

An old warning drawn on the edges of old maps, warning sailors against traversing too far out into the deep waters lest they be consumed by the terrible creatures that lie beneath. An old warning. A promise. A challenge. And, of course, the eldest daughter of the house of Parker couldn’t resist a challenge so blatantly stated, almost as if the maps themselves were daring her to test their limits.

A quick wardrobe change, some coins greasing the right palms, and a mass of carefully wrapped bindings later, she was out to sea on the next pirate vessel that she could manage. Her father would worry, but he had seen to it that she could take care of herself should need arise, so he would not panic. She loved him for that, truly, but she needed to see what was out there. And it wasn’t like she had any pressing engagements to attend to back home.

As if any of those suitors back home could hold her interest. Blegh.

But then the storm had come, and even with all her skill as a rigging rat, a rouge wave had caught her at just the right moment to send her toppling overboard when no one else as around to see, leaving her floundering in the choppy, rough waters of the mid-Atlantic during a tropical storm. Even in the middle of the summer, the waters were deathly cold, and the waves swelled and crashed over her, sending her spinning under the water as her vision darkened from lack of air.

Strangely, she didn’t feel afraid. Only sad. Sad that this was how she met her end, before she ever got to know who she really was. Before she had ever loved, or lost, or even finished her first adventure.

And it was just as she was contemplating this, just as the last vestiges of consciousness began to leave her, that she saw the vague, blurry outline of what looked like a woman swimming towards her. Strange enough on its own, but then she thought she saw a fish’s tail where her legs should be…

And then she woke up.

Her head pounded and her mouth was dry and sticky from inhaling saltwater. A bright yellow sun shone overhead in a clear blue sky, no sign of the storm that had ravaged her ship. She groaned pitifully as she sat up, holding one hand to her forehead as she tried to remember what happened after she hit the water. She must’ve found her way to a dinghy, as evident by the fact that she was relatively dry and laying down in the boat. That was the good news. The bad news was that, as she looked around, she could see no sign of land anywhere in the vicinity.

“Well, that’s great,” she muttered, wincing as the words made her head throb again.

Species Name: Niktal

Appearance: Niktal are large and avian, with a large cranial ridge that sweeps up and behind their heads. They possess four, foward-facing eyes with a wide range of visible light spectrum, from deep ultraviolet to high infrared, with several irregularly shaped pupils. They have three long, thin slits along each side of their head to act as auditory receptors. Their nostrils are simply two holes right between their eyes, slightly larger than an average human's. They possess digitigrade legs, with long, flexible toes and sharp claws able to find purchase on almost any surface. Their arms are long and strong, and their hands are very dexterous. They possess claws on each of their six fingers, razor-sharp and capable of rending through flesh, bone, and even low-grade metals. They also possess a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth and a long, thin tongue. Their tail is long and prehensile, with a sharp barb at the end. Average height is between 2.5-3 meters at maturity, and average weight clocks in at 181.5 kilograms.

Biology/Anatomy: Niktal possess large, solid bones that are hard to break and hard to heal, as well as cerulean blood. They possess two hearts and two sets of lungs, allowing them to supply their extremely large body with enough oxygen to continue functioning. Every member of the species possesses what would be considered a feminine appearance to humans, and are all hermaphrodites. They possess no vocal chords and produce no sound of any kind. Their brains are six-hemisphered and extremely complex, capable of self-healing at a remarkable rate.

Natural Abilities:
Telepathy- Lacking any vocal chords, the Nitkal evolved with the ability to communicate telepathically instead. Every member of their race is telepathic, able to broadcast thoughts, read minds, and even implant suggestions or commands if their will and skill is stronger than their targets. The strength of their telepathy increases with skin-on-skin contact. Skill, power, and range vary per the individual.

Empathy: They are able to sense the emotional states of other life-forms, allowing them to quickly assess any situation they may find themselves in.

Powerful Senses- The Nitkal have a very broad range of hearing as far as frequency goes, a sense of smell equivalent to a bloodhound's, and hawk-like eyesight.

Natural Sprinters- Due to their physiology Nitkal are natural sprinters, capable of reaching up to 65 km/h from a dead stop in under three seconds. While they can only keep up this speed for around twenty seconds, it proved very useful in the days of their ancestors.

Superb Equilibrium- Due to their tail and natural abilities, Nitkal have a keen sense of balance and are able to keep upright through most anything.

Superior Strength: The Niktal are naturally strong due in large part to their predatory background, and are capable of lifting about twice their body weight on average.

Possible Genetic Defects: Caliar's Syndrome, otherwise known as "The Silence," causes the Nitkal to slowly lose their telepathic ability, usually starting at the midpoint of their lifespan and extending over two decades. Without fail, those who lose their telepathic ability become feral and dangerous, and are put down before they become a threat to themselves or others

Breathable Gas: Oxygen-nitrogen mix, with the ideal enviroment being a 35% Oxygen, 64% nitrogen, and 1% various gasses mix.

Average Lifetime: 300-400 solar cycles (300-400 years)

Reproductive Cycle: After 50 years of age, Nitkal are capable of bearing children. Unlike most species, the mono-gendered Nitkal do not necessarily need to engage in coitus to bear a child, though it is done more often than not for the simple pleasure of it. Using special receptors under their skin, the Nitkal collect DNA from another individual, randomizes it, and introduces the genetic material to a hard-shell egg to fertilize it before laying it. The egg takes about 5-6 months to hatch.

Intelligence Level: Highly intelligent and cunning, due to their ancient roots as a pack-hunting carnivore.

Species Type: The closest earth equivalent would be a dinosaur, which had more in common with birds than reptiles but possessed qualities of both.

History Of Your Nation: Approximately 2 thousand years ago was when the Modern Velocitians developed sentience and became what they are today. They started off in groups of warring tribes which lasted nearly 2 centuries until the first Volt was struck. This man united the bickering tribes together under him and they began to progress very quickly. Their powerful minds were now working together instead of against each other. This led to them reaching their equivalent to the Modern Age in merely a millennium. Unfortunately, good things don't last forever. Due to their incredibly high birth rates and powerful metabolisms food became scarce. Starvation became almost commonplace because it was difficult for them to grow crops and livestock at their rate of consumption.

Many prayed that the Sparks would help them, and with what solidified their faith in the lightning was it striking a man, an engineer. Food couldn't be grown at a fast enough rate to sate the hunger of billions of people who eat more in a day than a human eats in a week. The first breakthrough was his building machines that could grow food at rate that made traditional farms obsolete. This new technology allowed them to keep their society from falling apart. Technology advanced relatively quickly until they got to their pride and joy. The concept was similar to that of 3D printers, but much more advanced. The technology was called Digistructing, allowing them to convert matter to energy and likewise. This led to their planet becoming extraordinarily pristine and clean, with their refuse now becoming an energy source. They became more reliant on this technology the more it could produce. Food, homes, roads, vehicles, almost anything could be made with it. They reached a point where the energy supplied by their waste was not enough to keep it functional.

More and more people flocked to work in energy production and Digistruction became standard in virtually every household akin to a computer. The energy required to keep it functional soon reached a point where if you weren't there to fix the stations, you were there to work them. And as such it became a way of life with the majority of the population working the same job to keep the decadent lifestyle.
