Not sure what to do now as Pitch Black was suppose to appear before the children immediately after his release... Granis posted twice too soon.

Serah where are you getting that much electricity from? Does Mateo have anything more than batteries and his phone on him?
In addition, you have just described an entirely new power for Mateo, he doesn't possess the ability to infuse things with electricity or control the actions of electricity outside of his body.

Not when it's directly in contact with him.
Therefore considered as an extension of his body. But I can rid of it if you want to.

The electricity itself is literally tension in the air.
You know how sometimes a place can be described as electric when everyone involved is shouting at each other in anger, or when two people who cannot for the life of themselves get along don't speak to each other, but there's some tension in the air?
It's that. It's the electricity he gets from the environment.
The more emotional stress and animosity is around, the more he's going to get. This also works for actual electricity in the air when he's near a storm or an electric power plant.

But I can also scrap it. It was mainly to give a reason as to why they'd go one way more than another. Anyone in their right mind wouldn't have done what Filia did. And even if it was the case, no one would move from a place that genuinely looks safer than any of the other options.

And yes, he has a tesla coil modified to be a battery. It drives more electricity than Mateo himself, and allows for him to stock a significantly higher amount of it.
He automatically taps into it when he uses his power.

However, since he only made it recently, not only is it vaguely reliable, it only stocks about 1.5x of the amount Mateo has, he has also used it for training beforehand.
So they should both be at about 76kV and 55kV.
The outburst took about 15kV off the tesla battery.

Yeah. That's a huge stretch that doesn't have any basis in how his App is written or how he had been described before. Metaphorical electricity is useless to hi.
And the infusing bit also doesn't have any basis.

Keep in mind that an average cell phone has about 3.6V's, and about 1.5V's in D Battery and the lowest recorded voltage someone has died from is 60V's. (Although this is an outlier, the average taser is 50,000 volts.) We have handwaved some of Mateo's powers but let's remember we haven't gone full cartoon physics, and he's not turning anyone to ash anytime soon
I'm gonna repost Mateo's App here with the power changes we agreed on because they haven't be made to his actual app. Just for cataloging sake.

Super Identity: Il Dottore (Eel Doh-Toh-Reh)
Real Identity: Mateo Vasarelli
Is real identity known to the public: Not in Italy, otherwise, yes.
Hero, Villian, Neutral: Neutral
Age: 16
Gender: M
Appearance: Neck length caramel brown hair, bright green eyes, pharmacist coat and dark green pants, he also tends to wear masks from Venice, such as the plague doctor ones and carnival masks.
Looks to be 21.
Group Affiliation: NYMD
Powers:
  • Police training: Mateo is a well-trained combatant and has more experience and skill than your average mook about on par with a military combatant.
  • Railgun Fingers: Mateo can absorb and redirect electrical energy in his body. One way is to electrical charge pieces of metal to turn it into and impromptu bullet. Using 10% of a normal charge (Read Normal charge as Car Battery + some) Mateo can launch a coin like an assault rifle bullet.
  • Taser Punch: Mateo can focus electricity in his hands allowing him to serious mess people up. 5% can stun a person momentarily, 10% can serious daze them and 20% has a good chance of knocking them out cold.
Equipment:A rather heavy bag comprised of a lot of coins, of all shapes and sizes.
Weakness’s:
  • While Mateo is a competent fighter he is still a child and relies on his powers more than his fists. He is still a child and lacks the speed and strength of a full grown military professional. Against dedicated combatants or adults his mileage may vary.
  • Mateo frequently uses his own bodies electrical energy and therefore risks losing his internal bio-electricity. Using too much at once or over a short period will cause him to faint as his body shuts down to revitalize itself.
  • Short range: Mateo needs to be touching an electrical source to get power from it. His rail gun burns up coins giving them a range of only 100 Meters.
Background:
Mateo was born to a rich family in Venice, raised basically like nobility, he soon found himself able to do things nobody else could, such as bending electricity to his whims, something that he almost immediately used to try and help people.
Due to his family travelling, he was often very alone in his house, able to do whatever he wanted without really being repressed for it, as such, he had a very similar education to Heamet, as he was completely immersed into superhero stories, and that resulted in the first time he wanted to try flying.
And the first time he fell in the waters of the city.
Which made him learn about his main weakness, it being water, he also learned about his need to 'feed' on electrical currents

After a good five years, he chose his own cover and became something like the Italian batman, except with less capes and more masks.
During this time, his family discovered his occupations and sent him to someone they knew that was creating a superhero team.
And that person ended up being Heamet.

During his stay in America, he grew very close to Heamet due to the latter's knowledge of Italian, even considering him as a foster father and supplying information, should it be needed.
However, he often goes back to Italy, simply to check on Venice or his family in general.
Summary: A shock happy electric maniac that doesn't look or act his age at all. Has masks.

Filia had reasons to do what she did. Mateo might not agree with them and can call them crazy but they exist.
Your opinion of what is and is not safe may not be as correct as you think.

Flutter has a point about Serah's last post. They should have waited on me and Flutter to post first rather than entering some big thing with Micheal.
I think there just trying to remind everyone to take turns and wait until everyone else has posted before posting again.

I thought we agreed on having him be on par with a military professional.
Wouldn't exactly make sense for him not to be. Five years of constant training in and out of the field are reason enough to bring that up.

The taser punch doesn't make sense either. He has 100kV in him at full power. Added the tesla coil, he can easily fry someone's brain by hitting the head for an elongated period of time.
Keep in mind that his electricity isn't endothermic, it is very exothermic. The sheer heat could easily dissuade someone from attacking him, much less keep attacking once they get tased once. First to second degree burns are to be expected.

I seriously feel like that's just limiting his power even more than I initially thought. You're turning him into one of those stupid protagonists that know two tricks and basta.
I'd much rather have him back to what he was before with electricity manipulation but with harder restriction rather than simply restrict it to 'He punches and shoots electricity.' There's no variety, it's bland, and it's boring.

But anyway, as he isn't an antagonist, he's never going to get the power he was supposed to have at the start.
On to my boring ass character then.
I'll remove the last post then.

The big thing with Michael is tension between the two characters, which is natural. There wasn't a progression of the plot, progression inside the house or even a progression of the knowledge about Pitch Black. They are students, and tension among students it's even more natural than that.

As it was a discussion, Serah and Granis took turns: One answered each other normally without affecting the flow of the plot. I seriously can't see why this is even an issue.
Nothing to see here, move along.

But Serah and Granis aren’t the only ones in the scene. Filia is there and was mentioned, Brookes is there and is an authority figure, I am the location itself. What if one of us wanted to do something before Serah’s second post?

What if Flutter wanted to have Filia reply to Mateo? Or you wanted to break up the conversation? Or I wanted the house to do something? All would have been fine actions but because the conversation continues it now might feel weird. If Serah had said “Hey does anyone want to do something before I reply” in the OOC it wouldn’t be a big deal. But it seems like Flutter wanted PB to do something before the conversation kept going. Some people simply can’t post as much as others. Me for example. You all could write a dozen posts before I can, but all that talking would imply that nothing was happening or the that thing in the room was just standing there waiting for the conversation to end. This is a very minor issue I agree and I doubt it will effect anything but going in turn is a very useful tool to ensure that everyone in the scene gets the chance to add to the story.

The Flutterlands wrote:Yes please. Can we cut some posts, please? Like the last two?

I think were fine really. Irhk is right that its basically just to guys arguing. You can post your own stuff without too much issue, I think a whole redact would be a little much.

Serah wrote:I thought we agreed on having him be on par with a military professional.
Wouldn't exactly make sense for him not to be. Five years of constant training in and out of the field are reason enough to bring that up.

You are right about that sorry my mistake.
Serah wrote:I seriously feel like that's just limiting his power even more than I initially thought. You're turning him into one of those stupid protagonists that know two tricks and basta.

This is literally how most superheroes are set up. Rare is the superhero with a laundry list of superpowers. Most well-known heroes have two or three signature powers that they just use over and over again.

Serah wrote:I'd much rather have him back to what he was before with electricity manipulation but with harder restriction rather than simply restrict it to 'He punches and shoots electricity.' There's no variety, it's bland, and it's boring.

Then resubmit Mateos app, I'm happy to work this out with you. But keep in mind the power level we are pitching here I think you are still expecting a different kind of power levels and its creating friction. I’m happy to talk more about the power level issue if you need me to.

@EVERYONE. If anyone else is having trouble with what they want power levels to be like and what they are let me know and I will see if I can alter the application to make it easier.

Serah wrote:But anyway, as he isn't an antagonist, he's never going to get the power he was supposed to have at the start.
On to my boring ass character then.

If you think that the only way to have an interesting character is to have a powerful one then I’m sorry but that just not how the thread is set up. We have been over repeatedly how powerful character simply don’t work and how they have less potential than others. PLENTY of character have had their powers edited and changed, its easier to count the number of Apps I haven’t needed to alter than those I have.

It could be done in the same way. Serah's post didn't alter things drastically, it was basically an answer to a discussion. Mateo didn't attack anything or anyone. The posting frequency is an issue, and all that talking would imply that a discussion happened, and a quick one. It would also imply that the thing in the room could attack them while they were chatting. And that's it.

We know the posting frequency of the players, we've been RPing with each other long enough to know it. However, this whole discussion is about two posts that didn't change the scenario in any way, shape or form: It just helped to set a disagreement between the two characters, something that can be used in the future.

Thanks Serah.
I'll get an answer up eventually this week.
Say, should I already post about the docks in my next post? Like opening some sort of opportunity to jump in, talk with people and pick up the lead?

Super Identity: Swarm
Real Identity: Jack Tassiter
Is real identity known to the public: No
Hero, Villain, Neutral: Hero
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance: Normal Costume
Group Affiliation: Knights of America
Powers: Insect Control: Plain and simple, Jack's ability is to control arthropods. Bugs, spiders, scorpions, those type of things up to a radius of about half a mile.
Enhanced Senses: A secondary ability to Jack's insect control is the ability to see and hear what his minions do.

Equipment: 1x 9mm Beretta handgun 1x Heavy duty combat knife. His costume A swarm of hornets and ants kept on his body.
Weaknesses: Fire: His bugs unsurprisingly, are quite vulnerable to fire. Due to fire being... Well. Fire.
Extreme Cold: As sturdy and resilient as bugs are, they don't handle temperatures below freezing very well.

Background: Jack was born to a surprisingly decent family in Central Texas. Mom and dad who loved each other and him as well. He did well in school and seemed to have good plans to go off to college for his studies with his scholarship in computer engineering. However, fate had a much different plan in mind. While going out with his parents, a gun fight broke out between two rival gangs in broad daylight. The absurdity of that aside, he and his parents attempted to escape. Sadly, he was the only one who made it. The grief drove him to depression and anger, but there was silver lining. If one could call his ability to sense and control the tiny little things that infested the walls of his home and yard, a silver lining. At first this made him even angrier. Some people got the ability to toss cars and trucks around like they were hot wheels, and all he got was the ability to control bugs?! No! No. He was going to make this power work. He was going to become a force of nature that wielded insects, and he was going to be feared.

Jack was a smart man. Always had been. He was going to have to do research, get some planning done and spend a lot of time surrounded by nature's tiny denizens. And so he did. He didn't have to worry about money for a long time. His parents had a sizable life insurance policy and owned the house. All he had to do was pay utilities which would give him several decades of time, and he planned to be far wealthier before that time came. As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, he researched and gathered as many insects as he could find. Spiders, ants, wasps, hornets and spiders all buzzed and crawled in his basement and between the walls of his home. It took some time to adjust to seeing through insect eyes. They didn't see like humans did, and it took many of them to form an acceptable picture, but it worked and effectively gave him far greater sight . He practiced with his ability day in and day out until it was as natural as breathing. He could command swarms of bugs as easy as thinking about what he was going to have for lunch.

The hardest part was ironically the costume. First he went to a military surplus store on the outskirts of town. People out there didn't ask questions when a man wanted to by a few kevlar vests. Next, he had dozens upon dozens upon dozens of black widows emptying their web glands into storage. Their silk was of the best quality that he had access to since Darwin's Bark spiders were only located in Madagascar. That would have to be something he worked on later. Since that would mean he would have to basically import an invasive species and cause catastrophic damage to the ecosystem. While he didn't actually give a half ounce shit about that, he didn't didn't feel like flying to Madagascar for a few spiders at the moment. It would take months and months to even start making progress, and he was running out of patience as it was. He wanted to make a statement to both of the gangs responsible for the deaths of his parents. He was almost giddy about getting ready to maim and probably painfully kill dozens of people. Then again, he had spent the last several years talking to no one but insects and such, so maybe his brain wasn't all the way there anymore.

Jack hopped in his car wearing the body of his armored costume and headed straight for the gang run portion of the town. It didn't take long to locate both gangs who were responsible for the deaths of his parents. Their hideouts were absolutely infested with ants and spiders. Many of which happened to be brown recluses and black widows. He had a gleeful grin that bordered on creepy as he set the venomous biting creatures on the men and women who dared to piss him off. As it turned out, he could also hear somewhat what the bugs heard. It was far more broken up than the sight was, but he was definitely able to make out lots of screaming and even some gun fire as the idiots hilariously thought that bullets would be effective against bugs. It made him even wonder why he bothered making the costume if he could just have the bugs eat everyone alive. He shrugged and figured that in the event he actually needed it, it would be there. His dad always told him that "It was better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it." That, and it reduced the chances of him getting caught. Rarely did anyone think that getting mauled by bugs was a superhuman occurrence, and it was unlikely that anyone would care what a bunch of druggies would have to say.

The ones that survived anyways. At least 20 people died and he cheerfully helped himself to the dufflebags filled with cash from their drug deals. Wearing his costume of course. Didn't want anyone getting a look at his face and IDing him. He had his revenge and it felt so... Anticlimactic. He expected there to be far more fighting and violence. Not him sitting in his air conditioned car while bugs tore the shit out of his enemies. As hilarious as it was. After that he decided to head back home and then decide what to do next. It didn't take him long to decide to to just start cleaning up the rest of the state. It wasn't hard. Most gangs lived in infested shit shacks anyways, and even if they didn't all it took was a few minutes to get a nice swarm going to make sure everyone got theirs. He kept this up for months. He got good enough at it that he started multitasking. Swarming thugs and drug dealers with a huge amount of stinging insects all from the comfort of a burger joint a few blocks over. However, one day as he was continuing his "strategy" of eating while sending gangsters into encephalitic shock, he was a approached by a rather intimidating man who made him the offer of a lifetime.

Summary: Bugs, prep and wit.

Character number 1. Backstory is a bit short, but meh.

This looks great but I want to add one more weakness. He can only control his own weight in bugs. He can jump between different ones within the range but at one time he can only directly manipulate a number of bugs equal to a human's size. Add that and he's accepted.

This looks great but I want to add one more weakness. He can only control his own weight in bugs. He can jump between different ones within the range but at one time he can only directly manipulate a number of bugs equal to a human's size. Add that and he's accepted.

That's an arbitrary and meaningless weakness. Let's say he weighs 180 pounds. 180 pounds of bugs would be hundreds of thousands and have absolutely no impact or actual weakness whatsoever in any realistic scenario.

I don't see why to add it.

Because I think his powers are too strong, range alone isn't enough of a weakness, I think adding a mass would be important. Half a mile is a huge range and would likely encompass billions of insects even in a clean city. He could probably drown an entire city block in roaches in NYC. Either that or some other small weakness. Perhaps something that can sever his connection?

If you were to clonk him over the head or taze him, that would definitely disrupt his control.

He tries to be discreet when using his power. If he were to bring a humongous swarm, it would draw attention.

How is his power in anyway too strong? Any pyrokinetic or cryokinetic worth anything would shut his ass down hard. Or anyone with access to duct tape, gloves, goggles and long covering clothing.
