The Nahuatl word for Mexico, that is the Aztec name for the land which they dwelt in, is Cemanahuac. This translates roughly to "That which is surrounded on all sides by water". This is despite the Aztec geographic knowledge revealing a lack of river in the South, and mostly desert to the North. It is often believed that the reason why this became the colloquial name for the region is because Aztec was so lonely while the Eurasians partied.
