Unknown to Humanity, the Galaxy did not belong to them, but another similar species, the Tagali. For thousands of years the Tagali spread across the Galaxy, ruling with a strong but fair hand. In 2067, they discovered us as well, helping us spread across the stars and teaching us we were one of many in the galaxy. Humanity came into the Galaxy during a time of peace. One that would last for a thousand more years until the Locusts descended on the Galaxy.
The Locusts, an insectoid swarm, arrived in the Milky Way, first attacking the outer edges of the Galaxy and devouring their way into the galactic interior. Whole planets were wiped clear of life as they infested planets and ate the inhabitants. To combat the threat, the Galactic Congress voted to give emergency powers to the Federation Military, suspending the civilian government. While the move was unpopular, it was collectively agreed upon that it was for the best to stop galactic wide extinction. After a long and bloody war, the Locusts were exterminated and the Galaxy began to heal and rebuild. It was a slow process, but the Galaxy began to return to normal, but the Military held on to power, stating it was to ensure Galactic peace.
As the Military didn't relinquish control as the years went by, opposition to their rule grew more and more. As the protests and petitions went unheard and the Riots became more and more violently pacified, a revolution was brewing. A group named the Galactic Revolutionary Front grew in the shadows, gaining more and more support as the Galactic population lost faith in the Military Government. In the year 3120, the Galactic Revolutionary Front made their move, one by one, entire nations and species violenty rose up against the Federation. While the Federation responded with Fleets and Maritial Law, they could not stop the sheer number of systems revolting. Within a month, large swaths of the Galactic North were in full GRF control. Now that they had a base for their Revolution, they set their sights on the rest of the Federation.
The Civil War had begun, and had split the Galaxy in half. While the GRF had gained a significant following, many systems and species felt that the Military Government was just or that at least they should work within the system to bring change. The Conflict unearthed many rivalries and strife between species. Humans were no different, with the Earth and other "Terran" systems supporting the Military Government while the Humans of the Traxus System and other far off human worlds supported the GRF Rebels, becoming a major suppliers of ships, Mecha, and weapons to the rebels.
The Civil War raged throughout the Galaxy for 50 years, hitting it's highest point when it reached Earth. The Battle was one of the bloodiest in the war, leading to the death of billions and even the destruction of the moon. Raining down chunks of debris onto the planet, causing untold chaos across the planet. In the End, Both sides were horrified by what they had done, calls for cease fire rang out across both sides as news of the battle spread across the Galaxy.
At first, both sides were committed to bringing the conflict to an end, but it was not to be. Both sides could not come to a compromise and the cease fire was broken on multiple occasions. While both sides agreed to stop major offensives for the time being, minor skirmishes occurred. The Cease Fire continued for the next 50 years, many more factions began to appear, some disillusioned by the leaders of the both the GRF and the Military and their failure to bring the war to a close. Others more radical or ideas of their own on what course the Galaxy should go. On top of this, Piracy has risen in the Galaxy once again, once a minor nuisance now a major threat to what's left of Galactic stability. It seems as if the Galaxy will be in turmoil for a long time.
There is hope, however. The New Leaders of both sides have agreed to meet for peace talks. A spark of light in a dark Galaxy. With the hopes of all across the Galaxy, will they bring about a much needed peace, or will they resume the war anew, molding the Galaxy in their image?
