Birth of a New World
The year is 2020, an age of peace was brought about after the nuclear disarmament of the world in the year 2000. Nations came together to push for peace and cooperation, not war and violence. For 20 years, the world existed in a state of relative peace until a major military incident changed everything. The nation of Valturus conducted it's first major military exercise in ten years, with disastrous results - as the navy was training in the channel islands, practicing using decommissioned naval vessels, an unknown target entered the fray.
The training exercise had its first issue, the unknown vessel was presumed to be another target by one of the main battleships- using live ammunition the Imperial Battleship immediately bombarded it without communications with Home Command authorizing it, the vessel was quickly destroyed and everything seemed fine until Home Command requested to know what just happened. Soon afterwards it was discovered that the vessel that was sunk was a cruise ship, containing two thousand civilians from various nations on it. Baxtonian, Flynnvakian, Sulanian, Markotovian, and even Valdrinians were killed because of its destruction with few people actually surviving. Two hours afterwards permission was given for several rescue ships to attend to the sunken vessels, without informing any of the citizens nations, and at that point the rescue attempt turned up no active rescues. Valturus attempted to keep the sinking of the cruise ship quiet, but to no avail as questions were asked when the ship didn't arrive in Unfallious at the destined time. Valturus soon admitted to its blunder after vessels from other nations entered the Channel Islands in search, and an international summit was called to discuss the crisis.
