That's not what he did. He jumped backwards, and when the snake fell on the ground, he put his foot on it's neck to stop it from moving away.

He then picked up the fallen gun and shot the shit out of it.

But I think your following post is fine. I just don't know how it tripped him without him walking. It would probably have had to wrap around both his legs and wriggle a lot.
