Luminesa wrote:Yet then she spoke to him, very softly but with authority. She had felt his presence. His eyes widened, and he gasped slightly. Instead of going back to the Academy, however, he decided to take a risk. He walked toward her, very slowly and very carefully. "...I-I'm sorry...I hope that I...haven't frightened you...Um...M-My name is Soleil...I'm a student here...I-If you're...l-looking for something...or someone...I-I can help you!...W-Wanna see?" He held up a hand, and he focused. The pain was dull now, but it still lingered, and he sucked-in breath as he created his construct. It came together as it had done in the past, turning into a ball of light. However, as he turned and looked at the dark figure, his mind wandered, and the orb exploded in his hand. It made a light, twinkling sound, and then a huge cloud of light-green butterflies filled the air.
They fluttered like ghosts, and yet they responded to their master's emotions. They began to float around the woman, with one landing meekly in her hand. Another group of them flew away from the crowd, into the forest, and some others flew back to the Academy toward Ruta. He would recognize them as he saw them, of course, though Soleil did not realize that he was on campus. Yet the butterflies did grant light, in the deadly-dark woods, and even the tiny insects crawling on the floor of the woods could be seen. "...A-Ah...H-Heh...heheheheh...I-I haven't summoned anything in some time...I-I meant to make something else...but...um...I-I hope this will do as well..."
He then calmed himself, and as he did so the butterflies began to act freely, spreading around the woods. There were thousands of them, all about the size of two fingers against each other. He himself felt comfortable here, despite being in the dark. Maybe it was because he had trained back here so many times in the past. "...A-Are you...really Yona?...I-I saw the dove, and...I-I've read all about you...I-I saw all of the letters you sent to Professor Ruta...Y-You two really loved each other...A-And...I always imagined...th-that you were my mom...b-because my mom..." His eyes got misty, and he stopped, simply smiling at her from behind.
Mirai Zanbaru
The huntress stood silent in the shade as the presence's voice and form were finally revealed to her. It was almost exactly as she had thought, a lone student whose curiosity had gotten the better of them, and thought that they might be of assistance in some way. As chance would apparently have it, this aforementioned student was one of those that had been mentioned by Cecily during her introduction to the Academy a few minutes earlier, noted for apparent difficulties in using magic. With only a slight frame and a childlike appearance, it wasn't hard for her to see why.
Despite her initial thoughts, however, the boy was in fact capable of using magic, apparently being of the Lightbearer archetype. Though Mirai was far from up for a demonstration, she found herself mildly impressed by his display, a grand flock of butterflies composed from the boy's own mana and the dim moonlight from above, with one of them even finding a home on her hand. Yet she still remained quiet in the verdant light, having already given her orders. She had been about to leave and dash off, but Soleil's next words stopped her dead in her tracks, and froze the ever-cold blood flowing through her veins.
Yona. The name that brought forth rage, envy, and remorse in her stone heart whenever it was uttered. She desperately tried to tell herself that it was only a voice in her head, something she must have misheard, some word lost in the wind...Yet the boy's next words somehow managed to convince her otherwise, and shake the huntress to her very core...
"...N-no...That is not my name, Soleil..." Mirai said with a shaky breath, her composure all but broken by the boy's words. A thousand questions rushed through her mind like water from a floodgate, disrupting her cryptic calm and diverting her train of thought from the mission at hand, her eyes wide with a terrible mix of fear, anguish, and bewilderment...
However, this too was soon interrupted by an outside occurrence, the tide of events reset once more.
A scarlet cross scorched the sky, the sacred icon set ablaze over the woodland and bringing upon the land a cruel crimson light so very reminiscent of hellfire. The Jaegarin snapped to her senses and shook off the shock of the previous moments, her eyes once again filled with grim determination. Unsheathing her sword from it's scabbard, the golden hilt glinting in the firelight as the long, curved blade revealed itself to the young Soleil, that fabled weapon which had felled countless betrayers in it's lifetime, Jaegars and otherwise.
"...Don't make me repeat myself after this...Get back to the Academy, now." Mirai restated, her tone carrying with it a heavy sense of urgency and dread. Katana in hand, she rushed off once more into the shadows of the night, her feet carrying her as fast as they could towards the source of the infernal cross.
