Catherine gently tossed a small metal canister at the girl. A tether thinner than hair wrapped around it and connected it to Catherine's blood. She sent a small pulse of mana along the tether. She didn't bother to voice the spell, in stead focusing on it purely mentally. Exsolvo. About a meter above Maria, just out of reach, the container burst into a shower of blood. Normally blood, being mostly water, was nearly incompressible. Thankfully, magic happened to be the perfect tool for bending the laws of physics. Catherine didn't just let the blood shower over Maria, even though that could give her a massive advantage in the fight. As it fell towards Maria it turned into something that rather looked like some one had kicked over a medieval weapons rack. While Maria was at least distracted by that, Catherine began her to form her defense.

Maria Hirsh

The metal rod grew white hot, and as Maria began spinning the rod the blood around her immediately evaporated. She increased the strength of her mana, the rod spooled out into tiny threads and flew toward Catherine. The white hot threads of what could possible be aluminum lashed at Catherine's arm, in an attempt to bind them together. Realizing last minute how lethal that could possibly turn, Maria focused her energy in cooling the wires and slowing down there speed before possibly slicing her limbs into samishi.

He released the blizzard ball and fired it directly at the stream of flames, exploding into a blinding burst of ice, snow, wind and hail. The lava that pooled on the floor slowly cooled until it froze solid into a black crystalline slush. "A dragon's fire is as hot as his spirit. Perhaps you're not interested enough?" In Allistor's hand, frostfire blossomed into life, more aethereal and unworldly than any other frostfire that other mages can conjure. Glacia leaped into the blue fire and her body was consumed by the flame. Yet slowly, the burning silhoutte of the snake grew and grew, until it was taller than Allistor. The fire exploded, revealing a gigantic and terrifying serpent that was once the harmless snake that perched on Allistor's neck. "Can you brave the fury of the Netherworld, Henry? Do not hold back now." Blue cold fire raged at Allistor's feet and with a gesture it blazed towards Henry like the heads of the Hydra.

"Here's my interest."

In an instinctive movement, pillars of flame and lava erupted, causing a fair share of destruction the room. It slowed the serpent down enough to give the cover Henry needed to reveal a small trick. He was now fitted in a lava armor, a lava statue at his side matching the height of the snake. To anyone who observed, the battle divided itself in two: The big creations and the mages below them.

And if a dragon's fire is hot as its spirit, Henry needed something to heat him up more. He grabbed every possible thought of everything that he needed to protected, everything that he hated the most and gave Allistor what would become his biggest firebreathing demonstration.

The flames were bigger, brighter, and hotter. It was directed at Allistor's direction with relentless fury while he manipulated the lava that came from the pillars in the shape of rings, in an effort to stop Glacia.

Glacia roared as she showed her fangs, diving straight into the lava that was supposed to slow her down. As her body made contact to the rings of fire, it would slowly become cold slush as the serpent rushed at the lava statue. Allistor answered Henry's fire blast with his own. His taunts were effective and soon Henry would be weakened enough with all the effort that he is doing. He concentrated and removed any unnecessary emotion that could hinder his spellcasting. His frostfire fought with Henry's own fire, and when the two met, frozen shards of red flame would hit the ground. The area surrounding Allistor would soon plummet to below freezing temperature, which didn't bother him the slightest. "Someone's been studying about magical constructs."

Catherine de Sanguine Vivere

Catherine had much improved her total defense spell since last year. By the time Maria's wires had reached her, Catherine was suspended inside a sphere of blood. If you had the time and the instruments to study it, you would find that many exotic carbon compounds had formed from the blood. In this duel, all that mattered was the sphere was hard. Very hard. Instead of the five eyes that Catherine had first learned to generate on the sphere's surface, this time it was covered by dozens of them, all blinking their diamond hard eye lids at uneven intervals to make for hard targets. Catherine felt the normal wave of nausea that followed her vision being extended to three-hundred and sixty degrees. When Maria's wires hit the sphere, instead of just deflecting them, tiny threads of blood extended from the surface and grabbed them. Then Catherine pulled, hard. All the while the blood that Maria had vaporized was beginning to slowly condense on surfaces around them.
The year’s at the spring,
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hill-side’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in His heaven—
All’s right with the world!

hi!

The battle extended unnecessarily. Allistor was a great defender, he gave him that. He could only hope that Allistor was nearly as tired as him. Glacia advanced furiously, and Henry only hoped that the statue would deal with the incoming blow. The statue itself was made of a harder density of lava, more resilient than the one he used for his attacks.

The battle would soon become a resilience test. In Henry's mind, it was a stalemate: Allistor had the advantage of Glacia, but somehow keeping her at that size must be costing him something. The temperature drop would certainly be something, as it increased Henry's effort. All he needed to do was to deliver a clean hit. Abandoning his use of lava, Henry used standard fire directed at Allistor in the form of straight, erratic firebolts aimed at Allistor.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Though he saw them, he couldn't do anything about it, resulting in a "fire meets behind" connection. But before it could cause any damage, he used his left hand to create a ball of water and placed it near the said flames were. The result left a small, but easily noticeable black stain on his pants. All he could do is laugh and look behind him. "I see. Fire." He formed another ball of water with his left hand. "It seems that me and her will get along real well; if she can handle me that is." He thought as he looked back at her. "Nice to meet you again madame." He said winking at her before walking back to his seat and sitting in his seat, thinking about how to go about having a relationship with that girl.

Allistor ended the stream of frostfire and met the firebolts with frostbolts. Yes, keeping Glacia that big is costing him but he learned with his duel with Arin that mana shortage is a life threatening situation. The chunks of ice around him slowly transitioned into pure pieces of mana, coming back at him to replenish him. If that isn't enough, he has spare mana potions in his robes. In the mists of cold mana and energy, Allistor bursted out, flying straight to Henry with his magic ready, frostfire trailing at his wake. They both wanted the duel to end with different ways and Allistor wanted to use surprise tactics. And he hoped that it would take the other boy unaware.

Henry Von Kressel

Suicidal. The adjective that could describe Allistor's tactic. Henry's first priority was bracing himself for the impact: The half of his shield jumped at Henry instead of trying to stop Allistor. At this rate, he knew that stopping Allistor was almost impossible, so he decided to prioritize his vitality. The temperature around Allistor was clearly low.

The lava from the previous shield reinforced Henry's armor. He stood still in Allistor's trajectory, fire ready to be launched at his hands. His lava froze under Glacia's influence, and as he let it go, he had more concentration to use in less things. Luckily enough, he would regain part of magical energy after a few minutes.

It was all a question of administration of resources: He had to economize, so he could use it better. Now, Henry had to be the defensive, passive one, with counterattack being the word of order.

Woodstovia wrote:Why the fuck was that bitch so fast? Alex wondered angrily. Large columns of fire rose around Alexander, protecting him from the waves which evaporated around him, causing large waves of steam to rise around him. Alex coughed a little and it was harder to see Aria but he persevered. His columns disappeared with a wave of his hand and Alex began sending great whips of plasma, imbued with fire crashing around him. One darted off and struck Ruta's desk but he wasn't going to be able to hit Aria with small, accurate bursts which were too quick. The only option was to send his plasma everywhere.

Aria Comnena

This was the best he had? Sending a few flames at her and even blinding himself in the process, before sending his own little retaliation attack? That was just plain pathetic at this point. Aria knew that Alex's magic was powerful, and that one false step on her part could mean her defeat. Instead of coming in close for an attack and running the risk of being burned, Aria instead jumped out of range of Alex's onslaught. This was rather difficult for her, as even though she was incredibly nimble, the blasts of plasma were far reaching, and a substantial amount of effort was required from Aria to dodge them all.

Aria was most definitely not in her normal state. The veil that once concealed the true colors of her eyes, due mainly to her lack of concentration on keeping it and the mana redirection which she had just conducted. Her friends might be able to recognize the shining, amber orange left eye which she had recieved after the Signas Incident, where her mind had been invaded by a force she did not so much as understand. The eye which caused her such pain, such misery, and showed her Hell as she knew it. Her right eye, which had once retained it's emerald hue, also had lost the protection of Aria's Veil. Now it was a midnight purple; a striking, piercing violet that Alex and the rest would be more than able to recall.

No longer did she need to hide. All she had ever needed to do was let go of her worries for but a moment and let instinct run wild. The smile which Aria always held on her face was the only thing that truly remained. And yet it too was warped and twisted, replaced with an insane, euphoric grin which gave off the impression that Aria was not right in the head. But now, the girl who relied so much on her appearances, her kindness, and the love she showered onto those she trusted, wouldn't even care. As of now, a second nature showed itself for all to see. It was only here, in this place that she called a battlefield, where Aria could let it show. Where none of her Lords could suppress it, where none of her teachers could make her afraid to show it, and where, in the end, no one truly cared about their opponent. Darting through the room, no stray bolt of fire would hit Aria, and only a few bursts could so much as singe her as she performed that deathly dance. For every shot that came from Alex, Aria fired two, and her vigor and endurance seemed to have been enhanced. Throughout all the smoke and chaos of the fight, only two things stayed constant: the glow of Aria's eyes through the fog, and the red lightning which burst from the Comnena girl's fingertips.

Luminesa wrote:"Well, as you've seen, if often takes all of your focus to climb up a tree, especially to the top branch. In the same way, it takes lots of focus to control one's mana. That will be our primary focus this week, learning how to focus so that one can summon their magic with any of their mana points," Rabbit explained to Kasumi. They then turned to the rest of the class, and addressed all of them.

"Once you know how to summon mana from any point of the body, then you can begin to learn how specifically to change that mana into the magic that you use," they explained. "So...any questions? Possibly? I'm sure all of you must be worried about something, considering our last exercise." The odd teacher continued smiling, under their mask. They were almost Cheshire-Cat-like, in how they smiled almost all the time.

Regardless of Rabbit's weirdness, however, they certainly did care for and enjoy their class, thus far. They were a fresh bunch, but also a very eager and likable bunch.

Aidan could not fully agree with the lesson: He had been able to split of a small fraction of his concentration to maintain the safety net while climbing - though he did remember, that this had been a skill he had had to practice very hard.

But then again, 'If you are doing a complicated task, focus on it' was not really a lesson, that was basically how human concentration always worked and had nothing to do with Mana Points specifically or magic in general.
"I still don't buy it," he called the Professor out, "and I would like to put it to a test: You stun my body from the neck down, so that I can only use my 3rd eye Mana point - that's what the one in the head is called like, isn't it? - and I bet, my spells will be just as strong as they are with all my shoulders and limbs under my control."
He did not know, why he just assumed that an anime-inspired professor with strong water - and other - magic was able to do nerve pinches to stun someone from the neck down but it somehow fit in his mental image of the Rabbit.

With the fall of the statue, Henry felt a substantial amount of mama returning to him. Constructs used too much mana, and it was a thing that he needed. However, he knew that both him and Allistor weren't going to give up, and that they could keep it going for hours straight.

What was once his armor became small "grenades", thrown in Allistor direction. If it exploded, lava would almost hit Allistor. However, with the armor gone, he needed another source of heat. Creating small fireballs in his hand, he put both of them together before releasing a full circle of flame directed at the frostfire.

If it didn't work, that probably meant that he was about to lose. However, Henry presumably would laugh at the end: Until then, the exercise was an excellent way of testing new tactics and ways of using his magic.
Nothing to see here, move along.

"So yes, please, let us not continue climbing trees unless it is absolutely necessary..."

Rabbit nodded. "Don't worry. Because of this exercise, I am somewhat more aware of what each of your skills and weaknesses are. Because you are all such a small class, then, I can work with all of you personally. So you, Kasumi-chan, will not need to fear climbing trees. I will help you masters your skills in other ways," they explained, understandingly.

Relief might have crossed her face, if that was normal for her. Instead, she just bowed gratefully. "Thank you, Usagi-sensei," she said.

Wha... wha... is that it?!

Rabbit turned and stared at him for a moment, seemingly thinking about what Aidan was requesting. "...Hmmmm..."

"A-Aidan, are you crazy?! If he paralyzes you from the neck down, you won't be able to cast any spells!" Soleil warned him. He then whirled toward the professor, frantically. "Professor, please-"

"No worries, Soleil. I will not bring any permanent harm to him," they answered, simply. They then summoned water in both of their hands, and the orbs of water then floated above the teacher, splitting into seven. "...One, two, three...four, five, six...aaaand seven," they counted-off. They then turned to Aidan, and they blasted him the seven magic-infused water orbs, hitting him directly in each mana point and knocking him back.

Soleil watched fearfully, wondering what would happen next. However, he noticed Aidan was actually still able to move his limbs. When he fell back, he did not become stiff. "...Professor, how is he not...paralyzed?" he asked.

"The mana points are not necessarily the same things as physical pressure-points. They may be close to them, but the mana points only disable one's magic in their respective areas. Thus, currently Aidan can move. But he can only use magic that he can generate from his third-eye point," Rabbit explained. They then turned to Aidan. "Now then...to continue on-topic with the lesson, I want you to focus and try to summon your wind magic with your mind."

Ozzi takes a step back from Aidan as he is hit with the magically empowered balls of water. He feels a rush of nerves and excitement as he watches the scene unfold. It really seems like he is dreaming. He must be dreaming.. Reality can't be this cool. Ozzi pinches his arms, behind his back. When he doesn't wake up, his excitement and nervousness only increases.

"Hey!" she complained. "Don't you have anything more to do?"

He looked down at his hand, which still had the ball of water in it. He tossed it in the air before snapping his fingers and making it dissipate. Still looking down at his hand, he spoke to her. "Well that's for me to know, and for you to find out." He chuckled. "We'll just have to wait and see. I don't want to show you all that I have so soon. Then my enemy will know me, and I can't have that just yet." He said quietly and calmly, but loud enough for her to hear. "A feisty and impatient one; no wonder she's good with fire."

Aidan took the Professor's spell with confident composure and immediately felt the difference. Yet he also still felt the connection to his magic. He looked at some leaves, concentrated and they started dancing upwards in the wind. This was the easy task. He focused on himself significantly more. He had cast flight so often, he casually put his life in the hands of his ability to cast the spell at various occasions, like this very morning, when he had interrupted the spell mid-flight to enjoy the feeling of free fall and recast it just in time not to crash on the ground. It was not that easy this time but still he managed and he was rising one foot into the air. He noticed, that he had lost control over the wind, that had been juggling the leaves and they were slowly falling back down now.

Still, he was quite satisfied. Even though he was weaker and therefor the professor's theory was kind of proven right, he was not significantly weaker, not like he had just lost 7/8th of his power. Maybe it was like the story of the blind man whose other senses sharpened when he lost sight, so Aidan's last mana point took over some mana channeling power from the other points.

He landed next to an approximately fist-sized stone for his last test. "It may be much lighter then me," he explained to the other students, "but since I'm no Solumn, density is much more important then weight." In fact he knew, that levitating a stone was pretty much to his limit and therefor a good test. He focused on the stone and as he felt the updraft around it, it started to wobble. Aidan's right hand formed a triangle of thumb, index and middle finger directed at the stone. Then, the index finger turned upwards and described a line through the triangle. That should be enough for the last push, he thought.
But it was not, his focus sign showed no effect. The stone toppled over a few times and then refused to move out of a small mold. Aidan dropped the attempts. He turned to Professor Rabbit, nodded and smiled. On the one hand he was disappointed, that he had not managed to lift the stone but on the other hand he was very content, because now he was beginning to understand.

Ruta shook his head at the student. If only he had come earlier, this entire problem could have been avoided, and yet his luck kept pushing him further back. This was the third troublemaker to come into his class, and he wouldn't so much as give his name this time. "Lance, I wasn't quite expecting many more students than I have already recieved. However, you are still welcome here. I believe that you could find another partner if chance allowed it, but if there is no such luck, then I will be your dueling partner."

"Well, I don't exactly have the best people skills," he answered. "So, it looks like I'm going to have to take you up on that offer." With that, he pushed himself from his seat and turned to the professor. His expression remained blank and uninterested. "Where do we start?"

Antonius Ruta

With a wave of Ruta's hand, the dark fire that had now ignited his desk was engulfed in a black gale and extinguished. Just about every part of this room, from the walls to the desks to even the books, had been proofed with magic resistance spells so that no damage could be done. So, despite just about every other teacher's objections to not taking the class outside, it was actually better to be inside. God only knew what kind of trouble or harm the students could get into. He did not want another gaping hole in the Academy's roofing because he couldn't keep an eye on the idiots who didn't know how to control themselves. And yet the two, Alexander and Aria seemed to lose themselves so easily to the flames of battle. Ruta concluded that it was the product of bad relations between the two. It could get dangerous, but so long as he kept watch, neither would be harmed, nor any one else.

Ruta looked upon Lance's pale face with a smile. The boy, like any Aquo, just looked dull and uncaring in relation to what was around him. There were battles going on here, that should at least stimulate some kind of excitement! But again, Ruta hated making a fuss, and so said calmly to the boy, "I suppose we should be beginning that little duel of ours, then. For starters, we find a place to actually begin." Ruta explained, leading Lance to the other end of the class from where most of the fighting was taking place. A decent amount of space really was necessary for this kind of endeavor. "So, Lance, make your move." he said as he put himself into a defensive stance and readied himself for any attack that could be thrown his way.

Alex did well to avoid most of Aria's attacks. He wasn't nearly as fast as her but her shots were inaccurate from having to run around the room in order to dodge Alex's bursts of plasma. But as Alex was getting confident a stray burst of Aria's stupid lightning magic kept up on him and hit him hard in the back. It felt like he was on fire and his legs buckled beneath him, sapped of their strength.

What if the alleyway was only a metaphor? What if the rain wasn't really rain? It felt as if rain drops were crawling beneath his skin. Was he going to die here? In some run down classroom overseen by some bigot of a teacher? One look at Aria told him all he needed to know: she was murderous and sadistic.

Alex gritted his teeth, pulling his mana away from his fingers and hands and towards his chest; he could feel it swelling until it burst out into a series of waves of plasma, arching out in all directions, trying to set everything on fire. Alex's normally dead eyes were alive and dancing. He was going to burn that stuck up bitch.

"I hope we won't need summer classes, though..." Soleil mumbled. It was only the first day of classes, he didn't want to even think of the possibility of failing. He knew his nervousness might hinder him, in other classes, and he wasn't looking forward to what he thought the other teachers might think of him.

"Excellent, Aidan," Rabbit praised him, clapping several times. "Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about. When you are in a battle, and you are running low on mana, you have to be able to use all of your remaining mana however you can. In order to do so, focus is key. Certainly, you weren't able to lift the rock, but in time, you will able to lift not just that rock, but perhaps much bigger things, with your magic. Very good, Aidan."

They then walked over to Aidan, and they took his hands in their own. Placing their thumbs right over his mana points, and concentrating their magic into him, they sent a shock of mana through him. Suddenly, all of Aidan's points were re-opened, so he could use them again.

"Wait...what are you doing?" Soleil asked, confused.

"Reopening his mana points. I can't let him go to his other classes, and have his teachers ask him why he can't use his magic like he should be able to. That would be rather embarrassing, wouldn't it?" Rabbit explained, with a laugh.

"...But...how did you do it?...Are we going to learn how to do that, in this class?" Soleil continued.

Rabbit thought for a moment. "...I should perhaps teach you this trick, though it's not exactly a beginner's technique. Sometime near the end of the course, perhaps. After all, you will meet opponents who are capable of closing your mana points. In that case, it will be good to know how to can reopen them yourselves, and for each other," they decided.

Lance

He raised one of his hands, pointing his palm towards the professor. Frost webbed across his hand and made its way up his sleeve before a sphere of ice formed. It floated in front of his hand, waiting for a command.

I need to stay calm... I can't let them see. Who knows what they would do if they knew.

With that final thought, he fired the sphere at Ruta. It continued to accelerate as it moved towards the professor, but he didn't let it move fast enough to be considered lethal. He repeated this process and sent an entire barrage.
