They took her into their arms, as Kasumi grabbed their hand. "It's alright, Kasumi-chan. I won't let you fall. I promise," they assured her. She was light and tiny, in Rabbit's arms. They felt sorry for this poor, confused girl, who was in a totally new place, and the only person who knew her was a sister who hated her. They were careful with her, and they hopped down one branch to check on the boys. "Do you two need any help?" they asked.

"Ummm..." Soleil turned and looked at Ozzi. "...I-I think we'll be okay...Just...make sure she's safe..." he suggested.

Rabbit nodded to him. "Oh don't worry. She is," they said. They then disappeared, and reappeared at the base of the tree. They then put her down, so she could stand on her own. "Are you hurt anywhere?" they asked.

She stared down at herself, gauging her physical state.

"I am... unhurt," she replied slowly. "Thank you, Usagi-sensei. I... I am afraid I have very little idea of what came over me."

"It is normal to be afraid, in a situation like that. All of you are still nervous and uncertain of yourselves, so I understand. But nevertheless, there is still something that can be taken from this," they answered. Looking toward the boys who had just made their way down, Rabbit nodded their approval. "Good! All of you are here. So, the point of the exercise was to show that the first step to controlling your mana is focusing on your self-control."

They looked up at the tree, and continued, "When you're climbing a tree, you have to be able to completely concentrate on the task at hand, and how you need to complete it. The same goes for using your mana. Hence why I allowed you to use magic on the way up, but not on the way down. Though using magic was not a bad thing, in this case. Considering it kept you all from getting hurt." Rabbit then looked at the group, and said, "Well? Do you all have any questions thus far?"

Ozzi's face reddens slightly; he did not expect Professor Rabbit to hear him say that. Clearing his throat, Ozzi looks at the ground to hide his embarrassment. "Oh, okay. Danks. Dat is good." Ozzi mumbles to the ground. "I can climb tings good, I just messed up. I guess I can be a bit clumsy." Ozzi likes to consider himself to be a fairly athletic individual, so he says this last part more to himself to boost his self confidence than he does to tell any of the others that he is athletic. Ozzi sees that as bragging, and he usually sees bragging as a less than desirable character trait.

"Well, as you've seen, if often takes all of your focus to climb up a tree, especially to the top branch. In the same way, it takes lots of focus to control one's mana. That will be our primary focus this week, learning how to focus so that one can summon their magic with any of their mana points," Rabbit explained to Kasumi. They then turned to the rest of the class, and addressed all of them.

"Once you know how to summon mana from any point of the body, then you can begin to learn how specifically to change that mana into the magic that you use," they explained. "So...any questions? Possibly? I'm sure all of you must be worried about something, considering our last exercise." The odd teacher continued smiling, under their mask. They were almost Cheshire-Cat-like, in how they smiled almost all the time.

Regardless of Rabbit's weirdness, however, they certainly did care for and enjoy their class, thus far. They were a fresh bunch, but also a very eager and likable bunch.

Question. Why am I participating in these seemingly-pointless exercises?

Observation. I wish to gain knowledge about magic and human interaction.

Further observation. These classes will increase my knowledge of magic and expose me to other people, leaving me with little choice but to learn about human interaction.

Conclusion. These exercises are not pointless, thus I will take part in them.

"My only concern is how often events like what just occurred will happen," Kasumi said evenly. She didn't really sound that concerned.

Liz studied the few students waiting for class to start. They seemed a good bunch, and she recognized a few of the from sorting earlier. Even with the sort notice, she was starting to think this would be a fun class to teach. Not to mention some of the magics she would perform during the lesson were sure to attract some of them to her theory class.
"Let's start out by getting to know each other a bit better. I'm Liz, and I really don't care what you call me, people who demand titles rarely deserve them. I'm teaching this class and the magical theory and ritual magic class later in the day. Hmmm, I was born in Yokohama, Japan 1868. Spent almost fifty years severing the Empire of Japan, then joined the Inquisition when it was forming. I've spent about the last sixty years ... alone studying magic. I joined the staff here this year, figuring by now I have at least some knowledge worth sharing. That's me, so why don't the rest of you introduce yourselves to me and your class mates."

Catherine de Sanguine Vivere

Maria huh, I don't know much about her, best to start off on the defense. Catherine scanned the room, looking for her partner. Well at the same time keeping a close eye on Aria and Alex. She recognized Maria from sorting, and approached.
"I believe it would be improper begin with this commotion going on. I would like to observe this as well."
Catherine said while motioning to Alex and Aria's duel.

Maria Hirsch

Maria picked up a small iron rod from the back of the room and got into a defensive stance. Seeing her partner doing the same, she decided to get her the first shot.
"Give me your best shot."
Maria's hands began giving off a trail of glowing gold dust.

"Well, we won't be climbing trees so often, but we will be doing other things. Because we have eight different mana points we have to learn about, there will be different exercises and different challenges, in order to master each one. Of course, there will be a midterm and a final, but I'd rather not call them that. I am required to give grades to my students, as a teacher, but I will be careful not to stress too much about grades, considering you will probably get plenty more of that from your other teachers," Rabbit answered.

Soleil breathed a sigh of relief. He indeed had enough stress already. He had an idea of the teachers whose classes he'd be taking, and he was already not looking forward to those.

Ozzi also lets out a relieved breath. The more that he does in this class, the more he wants to do. Ozzi finds himself wishing that his other teachers are like this one. If so, then any of his fears that Mana Academy would be less fun or more difficult than regular non-magical schools would be unfounded. Unable to contain these thoughts, Ozzi leans over and speaks quietly to Soleil.

Allistor. This is going to be hard. To fight with Allistor, I have to be cautious. One eye on him, the other eye in his snake.

The pairs were interesting ones. The Hirsch girl would fight Catherine, a rather creative mage in the use of her blood: Both of them had restrictions in their elements, but Henry would bet on Catherine, due to the friendship he had and her dedication to her studies.

The other one was the "fight of the century": Aria against Alex. It was a constant theme of discussion in his mind who would win this fight. Alex was talented, but apparently his sanity was leaving him day by day. The slight worry that Henry had about him crossing the line and trying anything against her dissipated when he remembered that the teacher would be watching, and that Aria was more than capable in a magical fight.

Henry stood up, straightening his cape while he walked to Allistor. They were acquainted, and Henry himself was betting on his opponent, or in a draw. The results didn't matter this time, the practice of fighting and thinking strategically worth it. Before he initiated the conversation, he directed a trustful smile to Aria, in a sign of wishing her good luck. With his mind set on the fight to come, he finally talked to Allistor.

"Allistor. Pleasure to see you again."

Allistor shifted his eyes from looking at the other class outside to look at Henry. "It seems that you're my opponent today, Henry." Glacia steered in her sleep and silently hissed, tasting the air with her long blue tongue. Allistor stood up, brushing his robes and his cloak, and eyed his opponent. 'This is going to be tough... I am not fond of fire magic at all.' He then looked around and sighed. "Seems that we will fight here inside. The space is not suitable for both of our magic." His hands glowed a wispy blue aura and Glacia's eyes burned white blue. Allistor's feet slowly left the floor a few inches and then smiled at Henry. "I hope you will not hold back. Shall we get started, Henry?"

Henry Von Kressel

"Sure. I will take a few steps back if you don't mind."

Henry took his steps. The control of his respiration helped in case he needed to breath fire. As he turned around, he started forming lava in his right hand, a more fluid variation that he liked to test. He decided to launch the first attack, launching it right at Allistor. Unrefined at first sight, but it would do in case he needed to put up his defenses in a counterattack from Allistor, or even use another means of attacking.

He denied it to himself, but he was holding himself back. He didn't want to harm Allistor at all, and lava tended to do it very often: The amount of heat often was uncomfortable even when Henry made it almost harmless, and it still caused some damage if it landed directly.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Catherine de Sanguine vivere

"An eager one I see. Don't die on me."
Catherine gently tossed a small metal canister at the girl. A tether thinner than hair wrapped around it and connected it to Catherine's blood. She sent a small pulse of mana along the tether. She didn't bother to voice the spell, in stead focusing on it purely mentally. Exsolvo. About a meter above Maria, just out of reach, the container burst into a shower of blood. Normally blood, being mostly water, was nearly incompressible. Thankfully, magic happened to be the perfect tool for bending the laws of physics. Catherine didn't just let the blood shower over Maria, even though that could give her a massive advantage in the fight. As it fell towards Maria it turned into something that rather looked like some one had kicked over a medieval weapons rack. While Maria was at least distracted by that, Catherine began her to form her defense.

Allistor clenched his right fist and raised it into the air, a shield of sturdy ice rose from the floor and took the hit. He then opened his hand and waved it towards Henry, a flurry of sharp shards and icicles went loose. He wouldn't want to use his frostfire, it would be quite devastating if he would. He then formed a ball of magic, within it is a blinding snowstorm. "Henry, show me the famed burning fury of the Von Kressels. Do not hold back!"

Henry Von Kressel

Could he finally set himself loose? It was safe? His priority now was his defense: The fluid lava that stopped at the Allistor's shield launcher itself it forming a wall exactly of his size. The icicles mostly melted before reaching it. Allistor's shield was his worry now. He lowered his shield by it's half, lessening the effort in case he needed to rise it again. Instead of destroying it, he transformed it into small lava balls that rolled around the ground, and tried to find a way around Allistor.

Henry himself inhaled and exhaled until he finally opened his mouth, letting out an impressive stream of fire at Allistor's ice wall. Both a distraction and attack, he made his best so his tactic couldn't be noticed, or to destroy the wall.
Nothing to see here, move along.

The fire exploded, revealing a gigantic and terrifying serpent that was once the harmless snake that perched on Allistor's neck. "Can you brave the fury of the Netherworld, Henry? His smile dissipated a little at the words of the girl. He was now taken aback by the sheer arrogance and cockiness of his dueling partner. He now grew a little bit of dislike, but curiosity for her now. "I see you know Sun Tzu very well. Well then...'The opportunity to secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.'". He said sounding poetic. "Hopefully you can back up what you're saying when it comes down to it, because if I know my enemy now, it seems to me that they're more talk, and no bite." He said while taking off his glasses to clean them.

"...I-I have the same classes...or...at least two of them...I have Elemental Science and Magical Combat...I-I think I actually scheduled Magical Combat for after this class..." Soleil said, remembering his schedule.

Rabbit nodded. Both of them would have Mr. Ruta, then, and considering they were both freshmen, he would probably not like them too much. Hence why the teacher was so kind to them-they were quite aware of how the other teachers would treat them.

Henry Von Kressel

"Here's my interest."

In an instinctive movement, pillars of flame and lava erupted, causing a fair share of destruction the room. It slowed the serpent down enough to give the cover Henry needed to reveal a small trick. He was now fitted in a lava armor, a lava statue at his side matching the height of the snake. To anyone who observed, the battle divided itself in two: The big creations and the mages below them.

And if a dragon's fire is hot as its spirit, Henry needed something to heat him up more. He grabbed every possible thought of everything that he needed to protected, everything that he hated the most and gave Allistor what would become his biggest firebreathing demonstration.

The flames were bigger, brighter, and hotter. It was directed at Allistor's direction with relentless fury while he manipulated the lava that came from the pillars in the shape of rings, in an effort to stop Glacia.
