Friends are supposed to...trust each other...Right, Leon?" He went to lighten the mood by bringing the cat into it, petting his head and getting him another platter of banana pudding. Putting it down on the bed, he then turned back to Shaun. "...S-So, now I that I understand you a little better...don't worry about it. We're learning about each other...l-like...friends are supposed to do." He gave him a big, happy smile, showing him that he was not offended or worried. "...We'll just have to explain it to Kasumi-chan...she probably won't understand it either...but I do...and...even having just one person understand you is good...r-right?"

Shaun Calhoun

Smelling the pudding, Leon looked up at Shaun with his light amber eyes as if signaling him to place him down for which Shaun sensed and brought him over to the bed where he sat him down and looked as he licked the pudding up once more. Sighing coyly, he turned back around to Soleil as he asked his question and smiled softly giving a nod to him. "I mean, one person to trust is better than having nobody to trust. But if it becomes too much trouble that I start to affect your relationship with Kasumi....chan?" He said in confusion as he didn't know anything about Japanese suffixes and thought this was just something that he called her along with everyone else. "Then I will stop it and try to not do it again. I don't want to make things awkward. But knowing me and my awkwardness, I might just call myself the...the Ultimate Socially Awkward Student or something."

With a small chuckle at his joke, Shaun combed his hair with his hand as the sunlight from the window peered through and landed onto his eyes, giving them a dramatic almost whitish-purple tint to them before turning around and looking down at Soleil, nodding. "Now...Can we go? I'm hungry; a reach craving for peanut butter is on my mind right now." Once Leon was done with his plate, Shaun picked up the plate and threw it away as the cat jumped down from the floor and began walking out of the dorm room since it was open. "Oh...Well let's make our way outside. It's about this time that I take him out to get his daily morning exercise and explorations.

The boy giggled, as he looked down at Leon. He enjoyed watching the little cat gobble down his food. He was a sweet creature. If only he could have a cat at some point. Perhaps Tsukiyomi could help him find one, once they were finally together. "...Yes...we can go...a-and...you don't need to worry about it..." Soleil answered. In order to calm his fears a little more, he slipped his hand into his and grinned at him. "...Don't worry about it...And yes, let's go eat...I-I haven't eaten either, come to think of it..." he answered, brightly.

Artosh furrowed his eyebrows as he tried to make sense with John's words.

A massacre. Five years ago. Memories wiped.

As hard as he could make his brain think, there really isn't anything that would pop on Artosh's mind. He's not the sharpest with Magical History and the name of the massacre sounds like an all out extinction of a Noble Family.

Artosh shook his head as he spoke. "No I don't know... The name itself doesn't even hit a nail. Why? What's the matter? What happened to Rabbit?"

He sighed. "...Five years ago, in Dallas, Texas...a Jaegar base there was attacked by Astraea, the Dark Mana Queen. She and her compatriots killed over 500 people, all while holding a group of Jaegars hostage, and then they killed the Jaegars there. The event was...it was horrific. And it was bad enough that most people who saw it had their memories wiped...Mine should have been wiped, but I escaped the process because I needed to know the truth."

He paused for a moment, knowing that Artosh would probably react badly to what he was about to hear. "I've done research for quite a long time, in order to hunt them down and to perhaps turn all of them in...and I've been considering it all again, since Katelyn's actions have put Rabbit on trial. The trial is in two weeks. We need to get this out the way, considering what Rabbit is. His records do not indicate such, but...I need you to question him about this for me. He trusts you... You need to ask him...if he was involved in the Massacre in any way."

John pulled something out of his pocket, and handed it to Artosh. There was a small box, with a wire attached. "...This is a wire. We need spoken testimony of Rabbit's uninvolvement with this event. Whenever you see him again, I need you to speak to him about it. I have a wire myself, and I will record the message. This will be what we turn-in to the judge, as written testimony of Rabbit's involvement. If he was not involved, it should prove his innocence, since Dark Mana Beings are usually bound to the will of their queen. Sort of like bees, but not quite. Are you willing to do this for me?" he questioned, putting his hands on Artosh's shoulders.

Artosh Luxenia

Artosh furrowed his eyebrows in annoyance and anger. Probably perhaps his emotions are amplified by his sleepy state and general grogginess. "And what does this mean for Katelyn? The. Girl. Is. Mad! And Rabbit's involvement doesn't change anything! You have said that this Queen of theirs must have control over the psychological aspect of Dark Mana Beings. If I am going to hypnotize you or puppet you then make you murder someone, that doesn't make it your fault. I'm sorry John, but I must decline. Find some conscience within you on how you're conspiring against a coworker who has done nothing but for the sake of our students. Do it yourself." He said as he swiped through the air, the door in front of him reappearing and separating the two.

And his smile didn't make it better for him as he raised his shirt above half of his face to conceal his deep blush.

He said as he swiped through the air, the door in front of him reappearing and separating the two.

"...Augh...Wrong choice, John...Wrong choice..." He turned away from the door, and stared at the ground, aggravated. He should have realized that Artosh would be too emotional to listen and to cooperate. He would ask Tsukiyomi, but then he realized that he did not need to get other people to do the work he needed to do. He held the wire-and-box in his hand tightly, and turned away. "...But that's fine. Like he said...you wanna get something done right, do it yourself," he mumbled.

He felt a tinge of uncertainty and anger at himself, as he walked down the hall, but he felt he was doing the right thing. Even if Katelyn was insane, and he was wrong, something was telling him to do this. If it came-up at the trial, Rabbit would be shown no mercy, and Katelyn (or her lawyer) would potentially twist the story to give him more involvement than he actually may have had. The story's holes needed to be filled, and they needed to be filled soon...

Soleil only continued giggling, as he saw Shaun's face turn red with embarrassment. "...N-No, it's okay...I understand...I'm unfortunately not very gifted in anything that...ehm...requires a lot of cooking...But we can find something different to eat...that might be fun..." The simple things, such as just having breakfast with a friend, calmed Soleil and helped him to get his mind off the questions of his heir-ship and of his future meetings with his aunt. They helped him to feel like an ordinary student-Mage, not the future Head of a clan of powerful Mages. Sometimes he wished he had been born as Shaun had been born, in a normal family of Mages with no titles and no external responsibilities. Yet nothing could be done about that. Right now, his duty was to enjoy the time he spent with the people around him, like a normal student and a normal friend.

Timeskip-Noon

The day passed in a peaceful fashion. Classes continued, and all of the students and teachers continued improving their skills. It was good to be back in a clear-cut rhythm, after the crazed, unpredictable week in Paris. Yet tensions still remained. Katelyn's declining psychological stability was an issue on the minds of all of the teachers. Thus, they all agreed to meet at lunch, to see what could be done for her.

Rabbit stood in the room, looking around at his fellow teachers. Behind his mask, he was extremely nervous. He could not shake the feeling that he was hurting Katelyn somehow. Yet at the same time, he knew that he could not simply leave her the way she was. He had to at least make his suggestion known to the rest of the staff.

"...Hello, everyone..." he spoke, "...I...wanted to gather everyone to...review our previous examinations of Katelyn, and to decide...what we need to do next. My suggestion is that we need to do a second examination, but first I wanted to ask you all what you think..." He bowed his head timidly, his anxiety overtaking him.

Cecily watched him, and she smiled sympathetically at him. "...You don't need to be scared. You're here in the company of your colleagues. All of us care about you," she told him, her eyes twinkling for just a moment. Especially me... she thought.

"...As much as I hate to put a student through such things, I agree," Aether said shortly. "Miss Starling is anything but in her right mind, that much is obvious to everyone. Baseless accusations, unprovoked violence... she was rough around the edges when she first came here, but this is a whole new level. If there's something we can do, then we need to figure out what it is."
"...Hikari-chan, how are you feeling?"

"Just the same as I was five minutes ago, Kasumi," Hikari responded wryly. "Aren't you taking this a little bit far?"

"I don't think so," Kasumi retorted. "You tried to commit suicide, Hikari-chan. I knew you were having some trouble, but I never knew it was that bad until..." The image of her sister lying unconscious in a bloodstained bathtub hadn't left her mind since that awful day. "...You have to tell me these things, Hikari-chan. You have to tell someone. If you really hate yourself that much, you need help."

"...Nah," Hikari said absentmindedly, turning her gaze from her bandaged forearms to her lunch as if trying to decide if she really wanted it. "I'm fine. Besides, I've got this little bundle of happiness clinging to my leg pretty much every second," she added, gesturing to Natalie, who was happily scarfing down cheese as usual. "It's not like I could try to off myself again if I wanted to. She hasn't let me go near anything even close to sharp... I had to convince her to let me use pencils."

John wanted to mention Artosh, when Aether spoke of 'irrationality', but he felt causing an outright fight in the staffroom would be counterproductive. After all, he was not the subject of the meeting, and they could talk privately later. Turning back toward Aether, he shook his head. "All of the students seem to be mostly stable now. Probably because we've been out of Paris for a week and readjusting to an actual schedule. But that's beside the point," he answered.

"No no, that is fine," Rabbit answered, softly. John wanted to mention Artosh, when Aether spoke of 'irrationality', but he felt causing an outright fight in the staffroom would be counterproductive. "If a demon attacked her, then there's almost no doubting that something is inside Katelyn, and plaguing her with a distrust of everyone around her. That is how demons work, correct? They separate the possessed from those they care about, before they take control? Tsukiyomi, you must indeed know something about this!" Cecily turned to her with urgency and confusion in her eyes. She could not do much at the moment. She had asked for a counselor for Katelyn, but if she was possessed, that was an entirely different issue. Katelyn's behavior might not even be her own. The thought sent a shiver down her spine.

Ms. Iolonos was among the gathering of teachers that had been summoned in order to discuss the well being of one of this institutions precious students. Truly, the matter of demonic possession, or even the presence of demonic entities in the Academy itself was not a deal to be taken lightly. Once Hestia came to fully grasp the situation at hand, she would do everything in her power to help the young 'Katelyn' combat whatever entity had seen fit to plague her. There were a few ideas in mind that could be useful, but none were spells that the Professor had significant experience with, the best bet being a mental projection to allow direct contact with this 'demon' and exterminating it where it resides.

"Foolish and dangerous". Hestia thought to herself. If one was overpowered by the demon, it may spread its corruption, or even migrate to a new host. No, she wouldn't even suggest it unless there was no other way. The only reason she had thought of it was a deep desire to see what the results of such an untested and rarely used spell would be, but not while there was a students well being on the line with so many other alternatives available to them.

In the meantime, the professor decided to listen to the input of her colleagues. Truly, what ideas would the esteemed Professors of this Academy be able to conjure up? Despite there currently being a student who was in need of help and guidance, she was anticipating the extent of the conversation regarding demons and how they should be handled. Useful surely, as Professor Iolonos' studies regarding Mana and Dark Mana Beings led her to be merely above average in the field of demons. If not for her scholarly disposition, she might actually have been merely average, hardly greater than a student.

Elizabeth Tsukuyomi

Liz still looked a bit... dim from her exertions with Soliel. Her body language almost made it look as if she was nursing a hang over. She was sipping on a gently glowing beverage, something to help restore her full strength. A powerful enough mana brew that it would be poison to anyone with a normal human form. She hadn't said anything yet, still going through her memories of the last attempt she had made to examine what ever it was that been residing in the deepest reaches of Ms. Starling's being. Thinking back to what had looked like a crack in her very soul. Could that have just been something inherently wrong with her, damage to her from the wrongs that had been forced upon her over her life? Or was it the access point for something else. This wasn't any normal possession, that would have been more obvious, with the other creature smothering Katelyn's being, taking control by stopping her from controlling her self at all, leaving her a prisoner in her own body. That wasn't what Tsukuyomi had seen, what ever this seemed to be trying to take over the girls soul, not just supplant it.

"I can't make another attempt my self. Well, I might be able to figure out what was going on, and what the creature was, but it would be a moot point, as we would be trying to sift her ashes out of the wind. As I am I lack the finesse to do a non-destructive examination. Think particle accelerator instead of MRI. I think the first goal would be trying to figure out what exactly it is trying to take over her, if anything. Is it a spirit from our world? Some other creature from the Prime attempting to corrupt her? Is it as you've been saying a demon, some type of outsider? It could even be some kind of farlander, something so alien to our world that it doesn't even truely know what it's doing. If that's the case it could just be trying to have a chat with her, and this is the result. All I know from the last time I started poking around inside of her is that what ever it is it seems to be able to defend itself from prying eyes. I didn't disintegrate myself on purpose last time. That, and that this certainly isn't some normal case of possession, if there is such a thing."
The year’s at the spring,
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hill-side’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in His heaven—
All’s right with the world!

hi!

That, and that this certainly isn't some normal case of possession, if there is such a thing."

"Then perhaps we will have to perform a second examination, something a bit more detailed. Increasing the magnification of the microscope, so to speak. My suggestion is that tomorrow morning, before class, we can perform a second evaluation to see what perhaps we are dealing with. If it is an alien, or perhaps another being from outside of our immediate jurisdiction, then we will have to deal with it in a radically different manner than we would deal with a demon. But first we must be certain, before we take action," he explained.

"And we're going to have you help," John answered, staring at Rabbit carefully. He wanted to watch his methods upclose. "...You and Aether are going to be the primary performers, since Tsukiyomi cannot do so, and you two are the only ones capable of such an examination. The rest of us, of course, will stand guard with you, in case you experience any other dangers."

Rabbit became even more anxious. He knew Katelyn would start a fight, if he joined in the examination, but this also provided an opportunity to prove his innocence. If the others watched his work and took notes, they could see and record exactly what his abilities were. This would work to his advantage. However, if he faltered, then Katelyn could be permanently wounded. He would be glad, then, to have Aether by his side.

"We could find another way, if you don't want to do it," John answered, turning and looking at them. He turned first to Aether. "Do you want to participate and give Rabbit a hand?" he inquired. "Or what about you?" He looked at Hestia, just noticing her. She was new, so he was not as certain about her abilities. "What can you do?"

"What can you do?"

Hestia had just finished heating her coffee with her hands when the question was poised towards her. Ah yes, it seemed as though she was expected to offer some input into the situation at hand. That was no problem of course, but how likely would they really be to listen to the suggestions of a teacher that was relatively unknown?

"Well, I suppose there are a few options I'm aware of, but for the sake of the well being of Katelyn, I suggest they be heavily considered when debating on their usage." Hestia started out. Indeed, her suggested method was dangerous and could hurt the student as well as themselves, but if time was of the essence, it might truly be a possible choice of action.

"One way we could handle this is by eradicating this otherwordly being at the source. By projecting a great deal of Mana into Katelyn's mind, while unconscious it would be possible to communicate with this 'demon' or whatever it is. Think of it as having an out-of-body experience. However, I know only of this method in theory, and if it were to be considered then a great deal of preparation and fault tolerance would have to be established. Should we combat the threat, it SHOULD be purged from the student, but the reprecussions could be severe. At minimum they might awake with a throbbing headache. At worst, if the extermination would take too long, it could possible damage the students mind irreparably." Hestia stared into her coffee mug with a serious and stern expression. This was a delicate and serious matter, and she was surely treating it as such.

"A less dangerous way of handling this would be to draw the demon out from Katelyn's body, allow this creature made of Dark Mana to manifest so that we may deal with it in a less volatile environment. Should we entrap it and purge it, all would be well and good. However, if we make even the slightest mistake or hesitation, we may find ourselves believing the demon to be vanquished when it is really not." Hestia shook her head and sighed.

"Once again, this is speculation as I've never had to deal with demonic possession myself before." She paused.

"Though treating this the same way your theory on Dark Mana Being's works and their possibility of binding them to a host, it may prove to be a serious advancement". Hestia thought to herself.

"Regardless of the action we may take, I'm of course willing to help in any way required of me. The well being of our students is top priority after all." Hestia added, not really expecting her suggestions to be taken into account when she added on the possible damage and failure it could incur.

Basil Smith

Throughout the whole discussion, Basil kept drinking his tea, looking at their opinions. All of them seemed invasive, but if there was something inside of Katelyn, they had to take care of it. However, at the mention of mental damage, Basil promptly interfered.

"This... Can end up being extremely dangerous to Katelyn. See, her mind isn't one of the strongest I know, even with her constant effort to hide it. This fact also brings up the matter of how we are doing this examination. It's important to remember that Katelyn was treated as a demon throughout a big part of her life, and talking to her in such a way could unleash drastic results, ruining our work in integrating her to the group."
Nothing to see here, move along.

We do not want to frighten her away, or drive her to despair, as you have suggested," Cecily answered. She herself could not be of much help in this situation, but she trusted that Hestia, who sounded very intelligent, and Basil, who she knew was kinder to Katelyn than most, would do well in aiding her. Her only concern, then, was Rabbit, who stood nervously nearby as he thought about all of the risks and hazards of the coming procedure. Poor, sweet Rabbit...So delicate and yet...so tortured...Poor, poor Rabbit...Once this is all over...I will comfort you and make sure you are not afraid anymore... she thought, rather out-of-place for the serious situation.

"...My own powers are...something to that effect," Rabbit answered her, turning slowly to face her. "...I can transfer my consciousness into another person, in order to purge their mind of darkness. It takes time, and quite a bit of Mana, but when it works the person is usually healed entirely...I can only be careful to not accidentally swallow a demon, if you will pardon to crude image, in my doing so. Perhaps you can assist Aether and I in this function? If not, then you can simply guard the room against any outside interference. The ritual will take place in her current room, by the way, so that she will be in a comfortable environment when we perform it. If we decide to go through with this in the end," he explained, looking around the room for some consensus.

Aether's eyes narrowed slightly as she listened to the conversation around her. "This is all very well and good," she said calmly, "but we don't know for sure if any of it will work. Worst-case scenario? We could all end up dead. Shouldn't we try to take a few precautions? After all, something of this nature could very easily end poorly." Something's bothering me about this... but I can't place it. I hate it when I get like this...

"Someone will have to place a barrier of some sort outside the room, before we begin the procedure. That way, once it starts, whatever is inside Katelyn cannot leave and try to hurt any other students. We're going to need someone who is good at forming barriers. Tsukiyomi, you could do this, I'm sure," John spoke to her, looking toward her, "and we could get Hestia and Artosh to join you. If they're fine with doing such..."

Rabbit turned and eyed Artosh. Hestia and Tsukiyomi both looked and sounded like they would be able to create strong barriers against the creature inside Katelyn, but Artosh was nowhere as strong as either of them. At most, he was a medic. This was without mentioning that his Arcane Magic was extremely dangerous and unstable. Yet he still wanted Artosh to help him exorcise his own demon tonight. He could see firsthand if Artosh would be able to handle such pressure. "...Artosh...are you fine with this?..." he inquired.

Artosh Luxenia

Artosh blinked his eyes at Rabbit and stuttered. "A-ah! Yes, I am fine... I am quite mediocre without using the arcane but this time might be a good deviation... It's been years since I've practiced and we all need the firepower for the ritual yes?"

Artosh knew what the consequences would be. Arcane is like the untamable waters of a raging sea. Just a bit will wash away your worries but even a tiny force of it can drag you down the depths. He sighed and raised his hand for a suggestion. "I once read about a book on occultism and the arts of warlocks and they practice a different kind of necromancy not the likes of the typical necromancer. I do believe that everyone's familiar with liches? Liches anchor their souls into a physical manifestation, more commonly known as a phylactery. A lich will continue to be nigh invulnerable until its soul's utterly destroyed. Warlocks can do the same: they can compress someone's soul essense into a soul gem, as a way of exorcising a soul out of someone's body forcibly. It is mostly another way to amplify their dark magic, to give themselves another lifeline and take someone's soul out but it gave me an idea."

He took a deep breath for a pause that he thoroughly needed and continued. "Soul gems are easy to create and very durable. We could get Katelyn into a state of coma and extract her soul using a soul gem. That way whatever entity's inside her can't harm her as long as the gem's out of the way. The thing is... we need demonic magic or high level dark magic for it."

Rabbit's eyes widened, and he stared at his friend, horrified. Artosh was capable of Arcane Magic, and while that was already known to most of the staff, that in itself was already disturbing. Yet the fact that Artosh was capable of using such incredible dark power...Sweet, kind, shy Artosh, who would never hurt a soul...who had cried over the death of a student...he could not possibly be a Dark Mage.

It's been years since I've practiced...

Yet Artosh indeed practiced Dark Magic. He knew all about it. Far too much, in fact, for a Mage his young age. He spotted John out the corner of his eye, and noted his own shocked expression, before he looked back at his friend. "...No. That is far too dangerous. Far, far too dangerous...No, if we apply such magic in order to try and save her, the creature could possess her and try to destroy her Soul Gem. We cannot risk such things...there has to be another way..." he whispered, shaking his head.

Artosh Luxenia

Artosh shook his head. "We only have four possible choices Bunny-chan. First, take the thing out of her body. Second, remove both of them out of her body and keep her soul in safety. Third, remove Katelyn out of her body but leave the thing inside. And fourth, destroy it completely while still inside Katelyn. All are dangerous, Bunny-chan. Whether it might be just a soul or an eldritch abomination lurking inside her, the risk of losing her life still remains. If our hypothesis of possession is true then Katelyn might be in the stage where the incubation process is near the finale."

He sat back and relaxed. He kept on weighing the consequences. Just like what he said all of those are high risk-high return scenarios. Either Katelyn dies, the entity dies or both of them. "And if our hypothesis is right... We don't have much of a choice... Even if I don't want to resort to such things..." He said in an almost whispering voice, reaching for a glass of water and taking a sip.

He said in an almost whispering voice, reaching for a glass of water and taking a sip.

Rabbit weighed the possible options, as did John nearby, and presumably everyone else in the room. Rabbit knew that removing a soul from the body was not always a safe option, but it was certainly safer than simply allowing him to enter her mind and to forcibly extract the being himself. The pain would be too much for everyone involved. Removing both from Katelyn's body, however, gave them the ability to protect Katelyn's soul from harm, and also to kill the demon and to keep it from Katelyn. Yet to keep it from getting inside Katelyn, some sort of protective barrier would also have to be placed over the body.

"...This will be very complicated...but by going with the second option, we can best control our environment and our chances of success. We will remove Katelyn's soul, and place it into a Soul Gem. We will do this before we perform the ritual. Then we will remove Katelyn's soul and place it in safety. Then we shall remove the creature. At that point, Aether," Rabbit explained, turning to her, "we need to put a Light barrier around the body, so the spirit cannot return and possess the body. John will protect you. Basil, Hestia, and I will fight the being, while Tsukiyomi, Cecily, and Artosh hold the barriers outside in place, in case it escapes. Does this sound like a good plan?"

John seemed uncomfortable with the entire meeting, but considering the precautions were all considered now, he felt slightly better about undergoing the ritual. He only hoped that the battle to save Katelyn would not result in her death, rather than her revival. "...I'll do what I can," he answered simply.

Cecily nodded in response as well. Tsukiyomi, as weakened as she was, would need the extra help holding the barrier. Artosh would also need it, as the weakest of the three Mages guarding the room. "...I will not let the monster get past us. You can count on me. And on Tsukiyomi-hakase and Artosh...right?" She looked around her at the other Mages around her.
