Except that Republic was actively at war with the Sith. Now there appears to be something closer to a cold war. Meaning the Republic would likely support the Jedi Lords but not directly intervene. Factor into this the decentralized nature of the Republic's military (due to the Jedi Lords' Feudalistic system) and presumably war weariness and it seems even less likely the Republic would directly move to Ilum at this time.

You must have misunderstood the setting a little sorry. There is no Cold War. There is direct warfare. Remember that the first post of the IC details how a Republic force was ambushed and destroyed. The Republic is straight up at war with the Sith.

No the military is not that fragmented. It is quite good at working with the Jedi Lords. Some officers are only loyal to the Lords but most work for Coruscant but are friendly to the Lords and are experienced at working with them. Even then they don't need to work with them if the Republic sends them directly.

Except the Jedi are necessary to reach Ilum. We have Sith who can do that. The Republic would HAVE to merge with the Jedi Lords, and if the Jedi Lords moved larg forces to Ilum then all the other Sith factions would immediately pounce. Since this is not a cold war the Jedi absolutely have to maintain frontier forces at a certain point, and if the Republic is so involved then it no doubt lacks massive forces to throw at Ilum alone. And again, the Republic officially has condoned the mining of Ilum.

Not sure if you would have access, I only know that the Empire/Umbranauts would, and Koja would probably pay the Imperium some of his profits.

But yeah, I figure we need rapid and covert mining operations to get the most out of the endeavors. Fighting Republic and Jedi forces would only dampen profits by fighting an unwinnable battle and wasting defense forces.

It only benefit is its wealth and again the Republic officially condoned the operation. If they go back on their word here it could alarm large corporations such as Czerka who also deal with the Sith. This could push them more into the Sith sphere of influence which would hurt the Republic in the long run more than mining Ilum would.

Saber crystals are used for other things then just light sabers, if I remember correctly, saber crystals are only second to...I cant remember the name, some sort of near priceless jewel.

Well I guess that makes sense the crystals be used for other things. Wonder if the crystals had medical properties?

Where'd you get zero strategic value from? Any planet the Sith are on has strategic value because it's an opportunity to kill Sith, let alone it's the most sacred Jedi world. The Jedi are integral to the war effort.

Let me explain the Republic defense. The Jedi Lords maintain the border, the Republic military responds to crisis points. So the Republic does have the numbers to respond to an attack on one planet.

How could the Republic officially condone the operation? The Republic doesn't know Ilum exists?
