Blood in the Pacific

Fly envious Time, till thou run out thy race,
Call on the lazy leaden-stepping hours,
Whose speed is but the heavy Plummets pace;
And glut thy self with what thy womb devours,
Which is no more then what is false and vain,
And meerly mortal dross;
So little is our loss,
So little is thy gain.

For when as each thing bad thou hast entomb'd,
And last of all, thy greedy self consum'd,
Then long Eternity shall greet our bliss
With an individual kiss;
And Joy shall overtake us as a flood,
When every thing that is sincerely good
And perfectly divine,
With Truth, and Peace, and Love shall ever shine
About the supreme Throne
Of him, t' whose happy-making sight alone,
When once our heav'nly-guided soul shall clime,
Then all this Earthy grosnes quit,
Attir'd with Stars, we shall for ever sit,
Triumphing over Death, and Chance, and thee O Time.

- John Milton: 'On Time'

[CONTENT Advisory: This roleplay will depict the horrors of war as accurately as possible within a fictional narrative. Graphic descriptions of violence will be depicted, albeit within the confines and rules of nation states. Discretion is highly advised and respect for the subject matter is to be expected]

"Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan..." Those words, immortalized in time, have brought the United States to war, with Japan, with Italy, and with Nazi Germany. Americans everywhere are furious, every notion of peace is long gone. These words ring in your ears. As an officer in the Department of the Navy, this means the end of your hard-earned shore leave. Whether or not you were new to the business, or if you had begun to make a career out of the Navy, you know that soon, all eyes will be on you; the weight of the world will be placed on your shoulders.
Soon enough, the Navy gives you the letter detailing where you need to be and when. They even call you for good measure. You, and many officers like you, are to report for duty in San Diego in three days time. You have been attached to Task Force Seven, First Fleet, CINCPAC. You will be in command of a team, and that team depends on your leadership to stay alive. Goodbyes are said across the country as a nation goes to war.
When you arrive in San Diego, you report to the man at the front desk. He takes record of your personal information, checks your security clearances, and assigns you to your command. He tells you where the ships are moored, where the, planes have landed, and where to go to get some hot chow. Before he lets you go, he gives you a logbook, stating that the Naval Department believes in having skippers' and captains' personal records filed for "moral, ethical, and regulatory purposes". The young man's last words to you?
"Welcome to the Pacific!"

I like it. I'd accept, but I added two parts to that first app that I forgot about earlier: Rank and organization. Seeing as you went surface I assume you are navy...

Edit: Designation needs to be CA for heavy cruiser, and you need a number as well.

Northampton Class might be akin to what you are looking for.

Correct, I wanted to be a naval personnel as bombers and fighters are pretty freaking overpowered. I mean nowadays the U.S has 9 aircraft carriers that could destroy each major power 9 times over. It's crazy. So yeah. Rank and Organization? What do you mean by that.

Check my edits to the first app, it asks for your character's rank. I already know you are navy, now I need to know how high to place you on the chain of command.

Sweet. So just wondering. It says that you are part of a task force. Does that means the roleplayers will be working together on missions in this task force? Also, I'd say a normal sized task force in the navy is 6 ships.

Normal size task force in the Navy circa this time period would be about 34, split into two-to-four task groups. I want our group to have about twelve to fifteen.

Alright, I have a question. Are the characters deckhands, just normal sailors, or are we in charge of our own ships/air wings?

Just working on my app, so I thought I would ask.

You are a commander of a ship, and either the number one or two in a squadron.

You really shouldn't get into the habit of ripping bits of the OP directly from another existing RP.

True enough. What exactly are you referring to? I assume it is the content advisory, but other than that I am a little confused...

Note the striking similarities between the OP here and of an RP I am involved in. Not to mention the 'content advisory' is near identical.

That would be it, and the fact that the rest of the OP is clearly written in an almost identical fashion, if not worded the same. I think it's great that Reiser's thread has inspired you, but you should probably make some indication of that rather than simply throwing this up as if it is your own without any indication as to the source of inspiration, the original work.

I wouldn't say that, but it is very similar in tone and writing style to an already existing thread, and I wouldn't have a problem if the inspiration were noted in the OP.

The narrative format of the OP may be similar, but the only thing that was a direct rip was the content advisory, which I subsequently amended to fit the RP. If he requests I pull that bit, I would be more than happy to oblige, but to infer that this is not an original work is wrong.

Ahhhhhh

And the Content Advisory is taking directly from said RP. I'm sure this thread has potential to be a great story, I'd encourage you to join as I enjoy watching skilled writers depict these types of settings, but the OP should be cautious as to how closely he fits his own thread with the style and tone of another running parallel to it and not take certain things directly from it.

Just like this was likewise inspired by an old ODST RP I was in a while ago, and akin to a Guadalcanal RP after that.

If he asks me to make a change because he feels this defaced or detracts from his work, that's fair, and I'll amend, but I feel I've made an original creation here, and my sole intent is to it's success at our collective enjoyment.
