Californian forces announced that no communication would be made unless the Texan troops laid down their arms, and surrendered to the Californians.

Texas would agree to have most men temporarily surrender to have communication. This was so that Mexico wouldn't find out.

Fortified Compound, Nadowess

The door came down with a crash-and the air was filled with hissing noises as it crashed onto a series of pressure plates-darts crisscrossed the room, clinking against the opposite walls with a deceptively cheery sound. Several seconds went by, the point man gulped, and stepped in, on top of the fallen door. He glanced about at the floor, and called back to the men behind him to grab some dirt. With it passed up to him, he tossed it on the floor in front of him, watching where it slipped into cracks or down inclines that indicated plates, and carefully stepped around those surfaces, with two more men taking positions on the fallen door.

"Don't matter, chopper's here."

The recognizable whupping of rotors was easily audible as an SA 341 touched down in the desert right in front of them. The burly man placed Assad down on one of the seats, and was given a thumbs up from another in the rear, who strapped in Assad.

"Good work, Louis! Keep it up and you might just get out!"

The chopper was getting back in the air almost before it had landed, turning towards Ar-Raqqah. The man turned to Assad.

"Glad to see you, Sir! We have a medical crew waiting on landing, but I can give you any basic treatment you need."

"Coming in now, Sir."

The chopper descended slowly into the partially-ruined city-many buildings were crumbling, some clearly blackened, and outside the walls, and across the Euphrates stood what was nearly another city of tents and lean-tos, dirt-encrusted people wandering about, occasionally interspersed with a more official-looking worker.

Upon landing, a fairly short woman with long, brown hair, dressed in an olive green uniform, hands tucked behind her back, waited, as the aide helped Assad to step down, where four officials enveloped him in a group hug.

Oh, no, not another woman who's probably going to hit on me for no clear reason! Assad was suddenly hugged by four random people. "Um . . . OK, so, what's this--" he pointed at the short woman, "about?"
