What remained of the Erie garrison, some seventy men, many wounded, and a quartet of artillery pieces, assembled bear the shores, twelve on watch elsewhere on the perimeter of the city, and began to set up the pieces to fire on the merchant ships. They cheered as they saw the flight sent against Florida return-with no opposition, the strike on Mayport had been an unqualified success.

The mass found themselves running into a thousand men waiting to ambush them from the men who retreated.Machine gun fire tore them apart as they advanced,they few that made it in fought bravely-but their numeric disadvantage outweighed their determination and they were defeated,putting up a truly heroic fight.

After war with Florida seemed Imminent the government proposed a temporary ceasefire so both governments could fight the Floridians.

Twenty minutes of rough labor had done its job, and the unit was prepared to breach. One was put on either side of the door, concealed, one brave sole in front of it, weapon ready, the others nestled in the best cover they could find elsewhere down there, establishing fields of fire, or sent back up top. With a nod, the fuze was lit, and the explosive blasted down the weakened door.

It was clear the Texans weren't going to do what Assad wanted. He felt his life flash before his eyes, and he encountered his menacing, traumatic fear of being kidnapped. He abruptly collapsed, not realizing he sat on his phone, butt-dialing President Sawyer.

Unlike the Erieans, though, they had access to reinforcements and fire support. A-10s would take some time to arrive, but with coordinates relayed, the artillery on the line opener up, indirect fire raining shells on hostile positions, though the scattered nature of the fighting prevented them from simply devastating them with that alone. A force was sent out from the line-four spearheads each of 16 Strykers. their men, and 200 Putschers swept out to cut through and encircle the foe.

Two Su-24's flew overhead and bombed the Strykers,with the heavy fire the thousand men found themselves pinned down with High casualties.

With the Erieans waiting for air support that never came, the spearhead assault was successful, managing to drive off or kill the offending men-though at the cost of heavy casualties to the initial group. The group successfully stripped the bodies, leaving them naked, in the Eriean way, before returning to the lines.

A Buckeye diplomat sent back a message agreeing to a cease-fire, but only on the condition that all Erieans remain at least thirty-five miles away from the Allegheny River and Line to prevent any incidents.

Weekly Recap

This passing week has been one of strife and tragedy across the nation, packed so few with happenings and events that scarsely a mind seems able to follow them all, ranging from the political to the military, and across every facet in between.

Peace talks have finally begun for the Peninsular War between California, and a Mexican-Texan alliance, with the Rocky Mountain Union also moving against California as a third party. These talks, notably, are centred around only the southern war, with the Rocky Mountain Union not included. California's Ambassador to the conference has been delayed thanks to difficulties in administration thanks to the ravages of war, and the Mexican and Texan ambassadors await them in Denver, hosted by the Constitutional Republic as a neutral third party. In a rather odd move, the Mexican ambassador has released their offer of peace to the public-focused around a straight border along a line of latitude, alongside opening of peaceful relations, and reparations. The Mexicans called this a generous offer, though opinion has been split on this. The Mexican-Texan advance has thus far seemed unstoppable, defeating every force that has stood before it, though with significant casualties among their militia, and many believe that the force is entirely capable of conquering the entirety of California-which makes this cease-fire a highly generous act. Others believe that the force has spent its momentum, and is simply trying to grab what it can. After the border skirmish with Californian forces invading the Rocky Mountain Union that left several Freedonians dead, bad blood towards California has increased-but only moderately. Zion, and James Boyert, continue to clamor for war-but reports of a Texan attempt to claim North Texas, with the aid of a traitorous Governor Taylor, though unsubstantiated at this point, have prevented the tide of public opinion from swinging too firmly against either nation.

Violence continues in the Midwest. After Understanding protesters turned violent and assaulted Unity protesters, killing three, a second protest went to the gates of the White House-and then assaulted it. The group, backed by known terror group DIAMOND, and consisting of Understanding measures, had their attack on the dictator's residence by use of extreme military force. These events have further polarized Freedonian positions on the matter of the Midwest and its status, with several groups beginning to form, largely across party lines. The smallest of the groups is staunchly pro-Midwest, seeking its independence as its own nation, the Commonwealth. Formed mostly of those with family benefiting from the present government, the group is loyal, but limited in its support thanks to deep-seated resentment at Midwestern government, though that rancor has been slowly fading with actions in California. More populous in the technically pro-Midwestern group is the anti-Stull movement, with a wish to punish the usurper for his treason against the United States and the Constitution. Somewhat bleeding support from it, however, is the Guidance movement. The euphemistically-named group stands against the actions of both the dictator Stull, and the DIAMOND-backed Midwest, believing that is it Freedonia's duty to place these eastern states under her hegemony, the only way to achieve lasting peace. Jefferson Ford, Governor of Alisonak, is the public head of this movement, supporting the cause-and the substantial military funding it would entail. As rallies in Freedonia have shown, though, not all are opposed to the United States-and a strong Unity faction is present in Freedonia. Though it has something of a papered-over ideological split around the members' view on Commandant Stull, with the subgroups either for the "President" or for unity for the United States as a whole. Growing in strength, though between Hawks and Doves, is a third movement, dubbing themselves "Eagles", seeking neither peace, nor war, in foreign affairs, but isolationism. The group itself is torn between a defensive movement, and a peaceful one-but with the disaster in Erie more and more Freedonians are wishing to turn inward, and evade the problems plaguing other factions-though others note that even in Freedonia is leaving other nations alone, they may not extend the same courtesy.

What would be the biggest story in any normal week, yet is fighting for space in this, is the situation in the United Provinces of Erie. After Eriean terrorists murdered the commander of the region, Vice General Aton, and sent military units to attack Freedonians living within the nation, officially repudiating the nation, a full severance with Erie was initiated. All Freedonian assets were removed or destroyed, all Freedonian citizens urged to leave-though some remained, unwilling to give up their new lands. Within Freedonia, all Eriean citizens or "collaborators", a dictatorially broad term, have been deported to their homeland. This removed several thousand vacationers, spies, and soldiers within the Constitutional Republic, but did not include Freedonian citizens formerly from the area, particularly those from the early migrations several months ago. The borders have been sealed-and with good cause-several attacks have already been launched, including a terrorist attack crashing an aircraft into a Freedonian column escorting refugees causing the deaths of several noncombatants. Calls have been raised for a nuclear solution to the "Erie Problem", and a motion to classify the people as hostis humani generis only narrowly failed-the popular mood seems to agree with the sentiment of the nations around them-to keep them penned in, and allow them to destroy themselves. An attempted Eriean breakout against Buckeye forces was cut apart, and it seems the border in the west is held in much the same manner.

Across the Carribbean, a series of revolts, many traced to the United Provinces, were launched on a series of small islands-some were defeated outright, others driven away by Borinquenos forces-but a bloody battle ensued on Antigua, and on Nevis war crimes were committed-human shields used, radon and polonium released into the atmosphere-mercifully in small quantities that have since dispersed, and slaughter throughout the island. With the aid of the C.W.S. New Jersey, and the famed 10th SOG, the island has been cleared-both small nations have now joined Freedonia as protectorates of the nation. On the larger islands, though, issues were more severe. A joint, or perhaps simply simultaneous, Texan-Alaskan invasion of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, culminating in missile strikes killing thousands of civilian noncombatants in Santo Domingo, Borinqeunos forces, combined with locals rallying behind a new party, evicted the invaders. The Dominican Republic has since come under new leadership of this party-while it appears that, in Haiti, new elections have brought force a radical Christian Socialist candidate. Both regimes seem to be on quite friendly terms with their neighbor Borinquen, and many suspect that additions to the LSA are imminent.

Outside of the killing fields of Erie, and onto the high seas comes more news, in a turn from bad news to the outright strange. A vessel, the U.S.S. Donald Cook, the vessel responsible for the attacks on Santo Domingo, a Texan ship, was boarded and taken over by a small Borinquenos transport-details are very scarse, but it appears that a presumably demoralized or treasonous crew surrendered almost without a fight. The Borinquenos flag was raised on the vessel, and it set off, but the Borinquenos were driven off the ship, at which time a pirate flotilla boarded and captured the ship. A Freedonian patrol group moved to engage the vessel-and was apparently joined by airdrop by Chancellor Eberhardt himself. A running battle ensued, in which the Chancellor, allegedly, thhough almost certainly not, equipped in medieval armor, led a boarding party, and with fire support from two other vessels, successfully captured the Destroyer against a vastly numerically superior foe. Though the Chancellor is military, a former Captain in the National Guard, and a hand-to-hand combat specialist, leading such a force is unprecedented-many have hailed the victory, many more have wondered just what, exactly, spurred on the leader of the Constitutional Republic to commit such an act-though the renaming of the ship, the C.M.S. Emily Lenserr, may be a clue.

Returning to Erie, even outside of the Eriean people, tragedy still struck. A Floridian attack group struck at the city of Erie itself-under Buckeye control, including Naval Base Erie-a Freedonian establishment. Flames destroyed the C.W.S. Blazer, but more deadly was the use of poisonous gas-a violation of the Geneva Conventions, and a war crime, killing dozens. The Floridians, previously strong allies of the Constitutional Republic, apologized profusely for the action, calling it a misunderstanding-but regardless, the deaths of Freedonians, particularly the means of death, have set angers ablaze. Calls for war are fairly popular-but with calls for war against the Midwest, Texas, and California also echoing, fulfillment of those dreams seems unlikely.

We close this recap with a recent event near-certain to raise tensions yet again. Two Texans were captured attempting to illegally cross the border into North Texas-both, when searched, were found to have materials and equipment for the spreading of pro-Unification propaganda. While the government has made no statement as to whether these men were acting individually, or, as some citizens claim, agents of Texan Intelligence, the capture seems to lend credence to the widely-spread theory that the Republic of Texas is attempting to integrate North Texas-with Governor Taylor's help. In the absence of the Governor, Vice Governor Shirley Barghsnip has demanded that the central government give North Texas custody of the two captured men.

With tyranny and violence criss-crossing the Western Hemisphere, and this week seeming a portent of the end times, we will stand and see whether this is a symbol of times to come, or a hiccup on a road back to stability. Tune in next week-and see it here.
