CASEY'S NEW RIDE

Months of bitter combat between the Chancellor Eberhardt and the railroad companies ended with a bang earlier today, as Governor Neumann broke out the big guns, and circumvented them entirely. Tossing aside plans for integrating railway systems across the nation-something Eberhardt constantly pushed for, but which the companies held back on, always conniving for a better deal, knowing the importance of such a project. No more, it seems. Chancellor Neumann has announced the creation of the Freedonian United Rail Initiative, FURI, a massive high-speed rail project designed to tie the widespread nation closer together. The main line is to be from the capitol at Kansas City to the burgeoning metropolis of Salt Lake City. The two main secondary lines will be between Oklahoma City and the capitol, and Salt Lake City and Phoenix. These massive public works projects are predicted to be extremely costly, but government experts insisted that the economic value of such rails is immense, and that the political and social benefit is incalculable, bringing people together like never before.

This project is just the speartip of an insane flurry of public works and capital spending pouring out from the Councilhouse of the People, in a rather tight collusion with the new Chancellor. Economists have expressed severe doubts over the projects, while admitting that such are predicted to be major elements of Freedonian infrastructure in the future, such Keynesian economics, many have said, will merely exacerbate the present employment bubble and inflation issues, and many have begun to question whether the Chancellor-the former head of STRATCOMM, even if he has an excellent head for logistics, is actually competent in the dismal science-and many wonder while the Councilhouse of the People and Councilhouse of the States, especially, seem to go along with him so readily.

Tuscon, Arizona is a rather locked-down town, and quite sparsely populated but busy, busy, busy-arms flowing out of the city like water-an endless, untrackable tide-or so one might think.
