Welcome to the vast space opera of Infinitium. Whatever brought you here on your travels, bet it curiosity, to believing you belong here. If you dare venture into the unforgiving voids of space, then you should fill out an application.

Infinitium is a nation-based, story-driven roleplay. New attendees and applicants alike do not need to know all that has happened so far, but you are welcome to ask any of the already present members. Civilizations that are accepted, or characters that are made will be worked in, allowing you plenty of time to learn story, setting and others.

This roleplay in particular is a sandbox-railroad roleplay. There is no prescribed storyline, however there is an overarching plot line that has been befit for you to discover. People as a result of this system are free wander where they will in the cosmos and find adventure where, and when they wish at discretion, or the bold may create it. However, there will be occasion, such as a major event where the space opera fluctuates between sandbox and railroad, based upon the necessity, and the discretion of the thread manager. Railroading to move the story on when people lose momentum. This allows people to be free when they wish to be, but gives structure when they feel lost.

New, and experienced members are encouraged to improve writing skills, fashion layered characters and civilizations rather than 2d caricatures, making a entity with a rich and diverse lore than can be fleshed out. It’s also encouraged for members to try their hand at controlling small sub-plots. Newer players are welcome here, and are free to ask for assistance.





LAWS

  • Hierarchy of Thread
    I, Vortukia am the OP of this thread, I act as the head of the roleplay . Currently the only Co-OP is United Jason Soviet, although I am open to appointing new ones should it arise. The word of the OP, and/or Co-Op is final law, and will not be changed unless deemed fit by us. Only we are allowed to change setting, change the story, break physics(if it calls for it), adjust time, or add any plot device to the roleplay. We are always available to answer questions, or settle disputes, however the Co-Ops won't always know ALL there is to know about the story, so you may direct major questions towards myself.

  • Rated R/Violence
    The world is bleak, and as such it will be played as such, I'm not going to stop heavy amounts of violence. But however we do have site rules, and as such you will not be permitted to overtly describe sex in immense detail. You can imply it, and that's as far as it goes. However you may as you wish play out violence as grotesque as you care to.

  • Loosing
    So, this has to be a rule, but it’s more of a reminder that you will scratch your head at but figure out once you read the story and start to see it in action. You’re going to be losing, and be put at a inherent disadvantage against a larger entity that seems to dwarf you in every way imaginably possible. Take the stress ball and sit down, I’m not going to let any nation or civilizations be totally and completely wiped out unless you wish for it.(Characters are a different story, characters are mortal). Just because you fight an enemy that is much larger than you doesn’t mean there are other SMARTER alternatives to fighting. Tactile advantages lie in those who recognize something they can’t win, and instead try to survive until an opportunity arises. Take the losses, there will be many more of them if you go at it head on. Because things may go on in your favor if you are patient.

  • Science
    This is a Hard Sci-Fi roleplay, meaning all things must be kept in total balance with science, and in it’s ever confining bounds. You have to love science. That it also tells you what can and can’t be done. Meaning you can’t go use the force, or be creating mini universes, or be using theories that aren’t very well proven.The only thing that I will allow to be bent, is Faster-Than-Light travel, simply for convenience. Now do note, that I don’t expect everyone to be Stephen Hawking, but if you break some physics law you will receive a courtesy notice in PR. Don’t argue because you can’t have your black hole shooting minigun, it’s not going to work. Please note if you wish to bend physics or use a very controversial theory of science, shoot me a TG and I’ll approve/disapprove it.
  • Applications Guide
    I don’t do much to restrict creativity, you’re free to make the most uniquely designed nation you wish, be it Avian, Synthetic Confederacy, or a fledgling republic. I am going to ask people stay in the bounds of the map, unless you have express permission from me to be a considerably larger nation, and you have to have a very good reason as to why you want this. When making your application, try not to use terms like; unimaginable, superior, unrivaled, and other such things.

    I reserve the right to deny applications without public explanation, however I will usually at least telegram you a reason why you were denied. I also do plan on fleshing out a larger application, previous applicants will be grandfathered in, but will be given a courtesy notice to remake a application.

  • Role Play Etiquette
    • Godmodding and metagaming are not allowed.
    • We don't use multi-colored or oddly formatted fonts for dialog. We also don't use asterisks to denote action. You must use proper punctuation and grammar; this isn't English 101.
    • If you have a problem with a player, take it to PR. If that does not work, bring it to the Op or a CoOPs attention. Do not turn the OOC thread into chaos, there is NO exceptions for this, even the slightest form of baiting or complain will not be allowed in the OOC whatsoever.
    • Bogging down other players through lack of posts or low-quality posts without offering satisfactory OOC explanation (esp. if posting of high quality in other RPs) will earn a warning; further problems will lead to player removal from the roster.
  • Personal Stories
    Players do not need to request permission to run stories unless that story will impact the overarching plot. creations of them must be authorized by the OP, not the Co-Ops, for example. A story involving a bounty crew searching for a bounty does not need to be cleared. Ignoring established IC canon (concerning the Sovereignty, it's history, or other players lore) in order to advance one's personal plots will earn IC & OOC consequences. If this becomes a problem, the offender will be ejected at thread staff discretion.

Be wary of what lurks in the darkness of space, those unstoppable forces you can not hope to comprehend, to predict, or to stop their unquenchable thirst of chaos and destruction. They are not interested in anything you have to offer but your own immolation. Empires have fallen beneath their feet, entire coalitions. Their power shines down like a vast and inverse sun. Be afraid of what lurks in the darkness, be afraid of the coming storm that could not be stopped.

This is not the kind of story where the hero wins.

WEAKNESS: Size of the Empire means it cannot funnel resources to one specific area. It has to defend and control a large amount of star systems so definitely order is of the most pressing concern.

The appearance of the Emperor on Imperia has since united this race and forged the Emperian Empire as the dominant force in the Andromeda Galaxy.

Just so nobody accidentally steals my idea, I'm planning on creating a species of starfish-like creatures who breath methane and communicate through bioluminescence, and their client race of blind, methane-breathing locust/hadrosaur hybrids.

Well, it's an idea I've used in an RP or two before (and the starfish creatures on their own have been used more than that), but never anything that's really got off the ground. So I've had a chance to refine the concepts a little.

GOVERNMENT: Meritocratic Representative Democracy
LAW & HUMANITY: Government guarantees Sentient Rights and Rule of Law.
SPECIES: Alvironian. No other recognized species. Most Non-Alvironians are treated with suspicion by both the Central Government and the General public.
HISTORY
PROVITY AND CULTURE: Alvironians take great pride in their culture, one that values Honesty and Intellect above all else, though not known for their sense of Aesthetics, Alvironian culture usually revolves around the way in which they interact with the universe, although very few follow religions, most are deeply fascinated with its spiritualism. Alvironian Society revolves around their adopted Pacifism, abhorring conflict and violence due to their dark past.
LANGUAGE: Their Language has been largely compared to Indo-European Languages from Earth.
ARCHITECTURE: Due to their origins from a world dominated by oceans, Architecture focuses on height and not size (hehe) Skyscrapers dominate cities and cities themselves are often self-contained in a few dozen skyscrapers with limited Suburbia. They have smooth, almost avian designs in their Architecture.
ECONOMY: Alvironia had several hundred years to let their economy mature, that said, Alvironia has a large and robust industrial/service based economy for its size. It primarily depends on the high-tech manufacturing sector for exports but most of the population is employed in the services industry. It imports large amounts of raw materials due to the small size of their territory.
INDUSTRY: Industry is mostly High-tech manufacturing, with about 10% of the population employed in it. They also have a growing shipbuilding industry kick-started by the military build-up.
DIPLOMACY: (In)Famous for their brutal honesty, Alvironia struggles to play nice with others, despite their desire for peace. Their efforts at diplomacy have been compared to something akin to a frowning politician, usually substantive but lacking in any real Charisma.
TECHNOLOGY: One of the most technologically advanced species in the galaxy, the Alvironians struggles to find a scientific field in which they do not excel. Focus has been largely given to FTL and Terraformation Technologies, but the Commonwealth's brightest minds struggles with applying their technology to a Military setting due to their pacifism. A gap exists between Alvironia and the rest of the Galaxy in terms of Military Technology, one that is rapidly closing, but a gap nonetheless.
MILITARY: Alvironia operates a Defense oriented Military, with a top-down structure with High Command Alvironia having overall control of both Planetside and Space Forces. Highly professional, Alvironia's Defense Forces are small but well trained but also inexperienced. The Ministry of Defense has hired many Instructors and Strategists from outside Alvironia to train the officer corps in the finer aspects of Interstellar Warfare.
STRENGTHS: High-Tech, Robust Economy, Educated population.
WEAKNESS: Small size, relatively small population, Inexperienced and small military, lacks diplomatic savvy.
NCE/TERRITORY: Alvironia is located in the Scutum-Crux Arm of the Milky Way, it has a small territory about 300 light years across. Its capital and Homeworld Alvironia is practically at the center of its space and is very well developed along with the rest of the Commonwealth's Worlds.

DESCRIPTION:

Essentially Humanoid, they are theorized to be an offshoot of Humanity due to their very similar appearances. They are taller than the average human but on average, of a slightly leaner build. Most of the species is hairless after puberty with some exceptions.
AVERAGE SIZE: 6 foot 11 Inches.
BASE COMPOSITE: Carbon Based.
RESPIRATORY GAS: Oxygen
BIOLOGY: They are Omnivorous Sentient creatures who live on average longer than humans. They can breathe the same atmosphere, eat the same food as humans, need water to survive and need to sweat to regulate temperature. They have slower aging but faster brain development. Puberty happens after 17 standard human years at which point most of the youth have finished their general education and moving on towards higher education. Their natural life span is 250 years old and with contemporary medical technology, they can live for nearly a thousand years.
SPECIES CLASSIFICATION: Humanoid
INTELLIGENCE: Very high. Philosophers and Scientists are often their leaders.
CULTURE: The species, due to their long-lived nature, is characterized by their patience. A common saying by elders to the youth is "Wait for the River to come to you". The species values Intelligence and Honesty above all else, making excellent scientists but rather poor diplomats. A popular stereotype of the Alvironians is that they have no sense of humor, they deny this of course, but in some planets, Alvironian Comedy Books are banned due to persistent rumors of the deaths of their readers.
HISTORY: The Alvironians, despite their calm, collected and intellectual exterior has had a violent and turbulent history. Like Humanity, before the rise of the Commonwealth, they were separated into nation-states of varying size and power. This changed when the world broke out into World War, one of many but this was to be the last one. One of the nation-states, a small Kingdom declared that they refuse to take sides, and unveiled a new secret weapon. A biological virus specifically tailored to target Alvironians themselves. The Kingdom threatened the release of the virus if the world didn't lay down their arms and disarm permanently.

Faced with possible extinction, the nations agreed to back off and established the United Alvironian Commonwealths. The virus was destroyed and the King of the small Kingdom was elected chairman by unanimous vote. The Commonwealth ushered in a new era of peace and prosperity. Over the next hundred years the Commonwealth expanded to their local neighborhood of star systems with the newly invented Star Drive. After more than a hundred years of exploration and expansion, The Alvironians, who had long asked themselves whether they were alone in the universe, received an answer. They were not, and made contact with a species known as Humanity, or Terrans, in many ways their cousins across the stars.

The Commonwealth, who, in their founding charters, forever swore to forsake Armed Force, began a large scale Military Build-up, creating the Alvironian Defense Forces. The Commonwealth still seeks peace, but now prepared to defend it.
ROLE IN CIVILIZATION: You mean their own Civilization? They are new to the universe and they have been completely independent of any other civilizations up to this point in their history and alien species' hasn't have the time to assimilate to their civilization.
NOTES: First Contact between humans and Alvironians happened only 18 years before the (IC) present.

NATION TITLE: The Vresh Hive
FLAG: None
GOVERNMENT: Matriarchal Hivemind, Ruled by the Hive Queen, who exerts power due to it's/her Hivemind control over the Vresh
LAW & HUMANITY: The law is the word of the Hive Queen. Slaves are kept in small amounts as farm animals for food.
SPECIES: All are Vresh
HISTORY: The Hive is thought to have expected for eons, however this has never been proven. What is only known is that the previous age of the Vresh ended in fire and death, with every Vresh settlement and hive being eradicated and the Vresh home world being lost to the histories.

What is known is the Vresh now, with the new Hive Queen coming out of hibernation when Vortukian scientists excavated a site on Sylax. This began a rapid rebuilding and expansion of the Hive to its current state, with several hive worlds across space acting as subunits of the glory of the Hive Queen. All Vresh to this day are offspring and descendants of the Hive Queen or Her brood in some way.

While aggressive and territorial at first due to their survival being threatened, the Vresh have now reached a point where they can again be safe of eradication, and the Vresh now attempt diplomacy with nations of the stars while subjugating enemies of the Hive so that they may breed and grow as food or biological material for the Hive.
CULTURE: Day to day society is marked with the billions upon untold billions of small Vresh going about their daily lives, toiling in service to the Hive Queen. They build equipment, they maintain ships, they breed, and they tend to the bio farms. They live and they die daily without the Hivemind's notice, without their own notice. The vast majority of the Vresh are little more than mindless animals, however the higher up the hierarchy one goes, the Vresh become more and more intelligent and independent and take on more important tasks, such as management, innovation, and local hive control.

BIOLOGY: For the most part, a member of the Hive has an exoskeleton, but there is no specific biology or anatomy for a species that has such a variance. Variation is acquired through the needs of the Hive. Almost everything is variable: color, limb number, size, etc. New adaptations can be gained due to the Hive Queen's desires or perceived needs. The Hive Queen and the Vresh engineers have some ability over determining this, though it takes some time. The base form of a Vresh starts out as an egg, and a small creature adapted solely for the purpose of finding a host and inserting it's embryo. The embryo will then siphon the life and nutrients off the host to grow, while inheriting some genes from the host. The host will die and the new Vresh eats its way out of the carcass. Afterwords, the Vresh will form a living cocoon where it will hibernate and grow and adapt based on its role, which is determined by how long it stays in hibernation as well as how it is tended to by its hive. Based on this, there is no true diversity in Vresh life, as all Vresh are borne from different species. The one ethnic variation are "noble" breeds, which the Hive Queen lays. these eggs are larger and bear a "noble" egg-layer which will ultimately produce a breed that has a purpose, such as a new queen for a local hive or another specialized role.
