Number of Active and Reserve Troops : 274,000 active 184,000 reserves
Strengths and Weaknesses: not much strength except in size and some somewhat advanced weaponry, but rather weak because most equipment is outdated French and Belgian equipment
Historical Stuff
Brief History since PoD: in 1965, China supported a Maoist revolution in the former Belgian Congo which recently gained independence, leading to the Democratic People's State of the Congo. In 1970, the people's republic of the Congo was declared in what is today the republic of the Congo, with support from the Soviet Union after a successful Marxist revolution in 1968-1970. This put great strain and tension between the two communist nations. Both canted to prove their dominance. The PR Congo funded a successful Marxist communist revolution in Gabon. DPS Congo one upped the PR and outright invaded Central African Republic. Then came an inevitable war in 1976. China didn't fund too much, but was successful in funding more than the Soviets could, also receiving funds from Cuba and other communist revolutionary states. Victory was achieved and the United Congolese Socialist Republic was declared

Other Ethnic/Cultural Groups: African-American, Hispanic-American
Religions: Officially secular but Protestant Christianity is the majority.
Economic Stuff
Economy Type Full on capitalist.
Economy Description: Big business plays a major role in the economy as people who work hard are heavily rewarded. The American Dream is heavily emphasized and there is minimal redistribution of wealth through the current administration. The US GDP is the second on Earth just behind the Soviet Union, and most goods are made solely on US soil.
Military Stuff
Military Description: One of the best on Earth, with a huge size and state of the art equipment. The US military is divided into five branches, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The service rifle of the US Army is the M16A1 and for the Marine Corps the M16A2. The US military purchases all weapons from solely American manufacturers. The US military has bases in Kuwait, West Germany, South Korea, Vietnam and Japan.
Number of Active and Reserve Troops : Active Army: 650,000
Reserve Army: 500,000
Active Navy: 245,000
Reserve Navy: 60,000
Active Air Force: 120,000
Reserve Air Force: 55,000
Active USMC: 115,000
Reserve USMC: 70,000
Active Coast Guard: 45,000
Reserve Coast Guard: 30,000
Total: Around 2.3 million
Strengths and Weaknesses: The US military is arguably the strongest on Earth in combined calculation of manpower and technology, however the forces are stretched out trying to fight every conflict all over the place. The USA does not have nearly enough manpower to rival the USSR in all out conflict, however technology manages to keep the USA caught up.
Historical Stuff
Brief History since PoD: 1963-USA refuses to get involved in the Gibraltar War. President John F. Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas, Texas by a British immigrant for his refusal to involve himself in a European affair.
1964- In a collapse after the loss of Gibraltar, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson refuses to run for president. Nelson Rockefeller wins the 1964 election by an extremely close margin. Gulf of Tonkin incident is declared false by Rockefeller who refuses to send more troops to Vietnam.
1965-US begins sending arms and equipment to their ally of South Vietnam to defend against constant attacks. Rockefeller still refuses to send ground troops.
1966-NATO collapses. Rockefeller begins arming rebels in North Vietnam to fight against the Communist government. NVA forces supporting the Vietcong are soon brought north instead.
1967-Six-Day war sees US support for Israel increase. 3,500 US troops arrive post-war to rebuild and increase relations.
1968-Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy narrowly avoids assassination by Palestinian immigrant Sirhan Sirhan. He then goes on to beat Republican candidate Richard Nixon in the 1968 presidential election. CIA agents capture and kill Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara in Africa.
1969-US troops arrive in Vietnam and begin striking across the border. NVA troops, exhausted from fighting the pro-south insurgents since 1966 are rapidly crushed in both a bombing and ground campaign. Vietcong begins fighting in the north, increasing casualties on both sides.
1970-RFK orders a naval invasion to flank the NVA. 20,000 US Marines land in North Vietnam and soon the main NVA force is surrounded. Hanoi falls in September, however due to his controversial invasion of North Vietnam with little provocation RFK's approval falls below 40%.
1972-The southern US borders are filled with military forces as Communists take control of the whole Caribbean. RFK loses in a landslide defeat to Richard Nixon as the Democratic party splits in two. From them the Conservative party and the Libertarian Party are founded. The Conservative Party is supported by RFK supporters who backed the Vietnam War while the Libertarian Party is led by George Mcgovern and opponents of the Vietnam War.
1973-Yom Kippur war sees US be embargoed by OPEC for their support of Israel. An oil crisis begins in the United States and the US economy plummets.
1974-Watergate scandal, Ford becomes president.
1975- President Ford is assassinated on September 22nd and is replaced by Rockefeller who once again is President of the US. He is the last Republican president as of 1982.
1976-Jimmy Carter wins the 1976 election with the Libertarian Party. The economy plummets under him. He grants a federal pardon to all Vietnam War draft dodgers.
1977- US begins increasing relations with Ethiopia, South Africa and Rhodesia. Conservatives in Congress use this opportunity to counter Soviet influence in Africa.
1979-Iranian revolution and hostage crisis. Jimmy Carter fails to gain their freedom. His approval rating drops below RFK's.
1980-Conservative Party candidate Ronald Reagan beats Libertarian Jimmy Carter and Republican John B. Anderson.
