I won't let that info break out until they're well on their way to being assimilated. And since not even the average San Franciscan knows that the plagues were brought from China there's no way they'll find out.

Except you told him that the disease may have come from your people. Then combined with the fact that the first signs of the plague came from the men whom traded with your people... Kampowing is primitive, but he is not dumb, he and many others would reach a similar conclusion.

But most plagues come from animals, and I had been trading with other tribes before the plague and they didn't die.

Think of it this way.
I trade with them and they get sick.
They trade with another tribe that has never known I exist and they get sick.
Soon all of California has 70% death rates except for the regions I helped them in. So in the Bay Area, sure, maybe I caused it, but then again I tried to help and at least they're better off than the other guys. And outside of the Bay Area they just... die.
They will have never known I was the cause until it was too late.
