Short Bio: Jimmy was born to a poor family who worked on a small farm in Florida. When he was 18, he joined the Army and was deployed to fight in the Vietnam War. After the war ended, he used the GI Bill to go to college and later Law School at the University of Florida. Jimmy went into corporate law before starting his own firm. In 2003, Jimmy ran for and won the position of Mayor of Jacksonville. In 2010, he ran for a closely contested race for the Florida Governor’s office. He won by only three point and assumed office in 2011. In 2015, he was re-elected to his second term by a much larger margin of victory.
Jimmy’s political views mostly align with mainstream conservatism. Economically, he is a strong proponent of the Reaganomics thinking: tax cuts, reduced spending, fewer regulations, and a balanced budget. Socially, he is against abortion, same-sex marriage and forcing businesses to serve same-sex persons, and against most types of gun regulation. For immigration, he supports strengthening the border and creating stricter punishments for business for knowingly hire illegal immigrants. However, he does believe in allowing a path to legalization for the illegal immigrants who do obey the law while in America. He also wants to allow a path to citizenship to young illegal immigrants who came to the country as minors.
