That would take a while, but I can give you the short short version:
Most of the player characters were initially hired by Miller to go to the center of the Zone, ostensibly with the intent of taking whatever anomalous materials they could to sell in the outside world. However, Miller never intended to pay them - he just wanted a lot of escorts to get him as deep into the Zone as possible. He intended to ditch them in Las Vegas and continue alone.
Miller, it turns out, was one of the scientists who were initially responsible for the accidental creation of the Zone. He planned to atone by heading to the center alone, a suicide mission. However, he didn't count on his partner Valerie Deckard becoming contaminated with...something...which made her a target for the Church.
The Church kidnapped Valerie and they intend to use her to bring their god into this world. If that happens, the Zone will expand worldwide and it will be a thousand times worse.
Meanwhile, other things have happened - Yuki was attacked by _____worms, and shortly thereafter she was murdered by a man who was possessed by a supernatural Zone inhabitant known as the Yellow Man. Through weird Zone shit, Yuki was resurrected and is now part-crow (it makes sense in context [it doesn't make sense in context]). At some point, the group picked up a robot cowboy named Asimov. There is a man in a leisure suit (Silvas) who possesses a sword - or rather, the sword possesses him from time to time. The sword is supernatural and has the ability to destroy Zone weirdness at a distance. There was a prostitute whose body is made of tens of thousands of leeches. There's a basically sociopathic pseudo-official government agency that does things; someone else will have to tell you about that. Jen is a double of Deckard from another dimension. There are three girls who are all interdimensional copies of one another. There's a guy who died...several times. And I'm sure I'm missing a few things.

Gender: Male
Age: 31
Occupation: Scavenger, Trespasser, Adventurer, Loner, Killer, Explorer, Robber.Equipment:MP-443 Grach, Izhmash AK-101, GP-5 Gas Mask, Military MREs, a few molotov cocktails, Accordion.(Image)
Skills: Accordion playing, good at surviving in the wilderness, and okay shot with most weapons.
Weaknesses: Almost always drunk or close to drunk, a bit too trusting of random people, more concerned with making money than with people's safety.
Personality: Jovial, casual, and generally hazardous, Boris is not really the person you'd want to be in a firefight with, but he's the guy you'd want around to keep up morale. Some say it's an equal trade off, most are unfortunately dead.
Biography: Born in Pripyat, Ukraine on 26 April 1985, exactly one year before Reactor 4 exploded into a hail of much fuckery. One could say Boris was born an anomaly, seeing but his whole family but him died of radiation poisoning. He spent from his second to tenth birthday in a Kiev Orphanage, before being adopted by a family on December 25, 1990, exactly a year before the Soviet Union dissolved.
The rest of his life was rather slow, decent academics, an interest in nuclear physics and programming, typical Eastern Bloc stuff. In his interest he went on a trip to Chernobyl, and later Pripyat, it was here he felt something reaching out to him, something not entirely natural. But he thought it was just radiation sickness and got the fuck out before he died. But regardless of his immediate fears, he couldn't shake the feeling like he belonged in a place like that.
Eventually he did become a computer programmer, after attending university for some time, and took a job in Donetsk on 6 April 2013 at the age of 28... You can probably see a pattern by now. Boris would later use his programming skills to make really shitty IEDs and unreliable sentry guns for Pro-Ukraine militamembers, he didn't get paid much, but they were better than nothing. Eventually the Pr-Russians caught wind, and Boris was forced to flee the country for fear of being shot in the face by a Mafiya hitman, and he figured the ZONE couldn't be much worse than Chernobyl, and more cost effective, so he thought: "Pahui, why not?"
His short time in the zone consisted of getting shot at, getting screamed at, being chased by very unnerving Jehovah's witnesses and a myriad of other weird shit. He even had a very civil debate on the pros and cons of Communism with a sentient pile of scrap metal, and had a very long and heartfelt talk with a skeletal Merriweather Lewis about whether or not he was murdered or committed suicide. The most notable is when he touched a very shiny fork and the twelve other people in his little gang were immediately flayed alive by an anomaly. He kept the fork as a good luck charm.
So far Boris hasn't done much very far into the zone besides look at it from Mount Charlestone. He longs for more.
