I second that.
One of these days, I'm going to have someone get actual brain damage when they get knocked out in an RP. IRL, you shouldn't be out of it for more than a few seconds, or else you can suffer significant brain damage.
Aaaaaand that's probably why I don't write for movies or television.

Right? Since I learned that, I can barely watch movies or TV now without thinking "Damn, he would be so dead right now." I guess it wouldn't be super interesting if the main character got turned into a vegetative state or killed by every little thing though

Having everyone crabby and injured all the time does tend to suck the levity out of a story, though, hence why I kinda break my own rules sometimes.
I think that's part of the reason that another RP I was involved in, No Man's Land: The Thaw, didn't work out. Things being dark is fine, but if you beat people over the head with it, it gets tiring. At least in my experience.

Someone once told me: "The environment should be difficult to survive in, but not impossible."

I think that was the problem with that RP. It was too depressing. Post-Apocalyptic is a genre that's really hard to get down right, and I think the people I worked with on it went a little overboard.
It's one thing to Break the Cutie whenever you can, but it's a whole other thing to create a horrible, soul-crushing experience.

A soul is what gives a character life. Take that away or destroy it and what's left is an empty shell of what was once someone with hopes, dreams, and courage. Not a very fun thing to play.

Exactly. It's why I prefer the weird, absurd stuff in this, rather than an out and out post-apocalyptic story.
I mean, it's basically the end of the world without being the end of the world.
Besides, being able to actually crack some jokes in this is surprisingly liberating. The Thaw felt like I had to be grimdark just because.

Though the atmosphere bleeds danger and death, there's also quite a lot of opportunity to turn it around and show that the Zone can actually be a bit of a different place then something that'll chew you up and spit you out.

That was the idea. Sort of like the SCP Foundation, in the sense that there's plenty of things trying to kill you, like Interdimensional Hellbeasts and unkillable lizards, but then there's a living blob of orange love that survives on skittles.
Which reminds me: We need a team pet soon. Any suggestions from you guys?
No, not you Greg. Nobody likes you.

Piss Zalgo is best pet.
But those weird mushroom guys seem cool too.

I had visions of Hawkins finding a sentient tank that the military was keeping hold of in locks and chains and surrounding by tank barriers because they couldn't get the thing to calm the fuck down and so she comes along and tames it.
I also thought about my LT finding a raven that could be a normal or maybe a not-so-normal bird.

ANTAGONIST? Hell no, he's the hero! Hes making people feel stuff and being polite toward Valerie! How could that be antagonistic?
