Is there an IC thread up yet?

Also, tag for interest. May have character application up tonight.

Name: Eshmunazar
Gender: Male
Age: 31

Appearance: Of medium height and somewhat overweight, his skin is tan in colour, tight on his face after years of spending time outside. He has thick lips, full checks, and yellowing, crooked teeth, a side effect of his near constant drug use. Slightly muscular, though only ever so slightly, his hands and fingers are worn, his nails stained brown after years of neglect. He keeps a short beard and has long, curly reddish brown hair. His eyes are of a sickly green colour.

  • Painting

Weaknesses:
  • Borderline Insane
  • Near complete dependence on drugs
  • Prone to vivid hallucinations/night terrors
  • Addicted to Pornography
  • Alcoholic
  • Sleep Deprived

Personality: Somewhat paranoid yet caring, though his overall mood and personality switches dramatically once he's high. Though still paranoid, he becomes increasingly hostile as the drugs kick in, though this depends yet again on which drugs he takes.

Biography: Born Emirhan Hamdi, the man currently know as Eshmunazar was born on July 14, 1985 to Atay and Sibel Hamdi in Barstow, California. His upbringing was pretty stable, with his father working in construction and his mother working as a secretary to a local chiropractor, while his elderly grandmother looked after him. Always eager, he readily became friends with the majority of the people he met, his charismatic attitude towards life, goofy smile, and calm disposition highly praised.

Attending Chico State later in life, he would fall into a string of events that would forever change his life. After a grueling semester during his sophomore year, he and some friends decided to go and have some fun, deciding to squeeze in some relief before diving headlong back into academia. With this in mind, they all chipped in enough money to buy themselves all tickets to Burning Man, as well as the necessary supplies needed to keep them going while over there. When the time came, they departed quickly, telling only a few other friends where they were going before all five of them jumped into a van and drove towards the festival.

To say that they had fun would be a massive understatement. Participating in everything and taking everything, when they eventually returned to Chico, the majority of them were in no condition to begin classes again, especially Emirhan. Having overdosed on several drugs and mind shattered after one to many LSD trips, Emirhan was completely broken. He began speaking of dastardly crows and their French masters, secret government ploys to paint the moon pink, and of an elusive drug that he called "Stan," constantly begging random people for a hit of it. Though his friends eventually managed to get clean and returned to society, Emirhan, who now called himself Eshmunazar, was to far gone, dropping out a few weeks after the end of the trip. Going home, his parents tried to get him rehabilitated, but he resisted all help, though he promised to come clean if they gave him some Stan. Disgusted, his parents swiftly disowned him, tossing him out to the streets.

From that point on to the emergence of The Zone, he lived on the streets, going city to city looking for cheap drugs, pornography, alcohol, and money to buy all those things. When The Zone began consuming vast tracts of the American southwest, Eshmunazar ran towards willingly, fueled by a LSD induced trip that told him that the mother load of drugs was to be found within its epicenter. As of now, he's made a few expeditions to the fringes of The Zone, selling whatever useful things he can find in order to fuel his addictions.

Do you remember Edean Liyn and his "weed guy" from back in NML? :P

We actually took him seriously.

Name: Tobias Salk
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Occupation: Former medical examiner; current scavver and "alternative medicine" supplier
Appearance: Looks young for his age. Very thin; average height. Black hair, pale skin. Van Dyke mustache. Wears badly-scratched wrap-around sunglasses and a tattered lab coat over a black turtleneck.
Equipment:
  • Leatherman multi-tool
  • specimen kit (containing specimen vials, specimen bags, syringes, Stryker reciprocating surgical saw, scalpel, surgical scissors, forceps, nitrile gloves)
  • pocket Maglite
  • coil of nylon rope with grappling hook
  • Ruger Standard (.22 LR)
  • Smith & Wesson Model 500 (.500 S&W)
  • folding tactical knife (American tanto design, teflon-coated blade, half-serrated)
  • Two MREs (expired)
Skills: In reasonably good physical shape. Very knowledgeable about medicine and anatomy, including first aid. Has been honing his skills with his Ruger.
Weaknesses: Operates poorly in groups. Though he insists on carrying the .500 revolver, he is not actually strong enough to wield it effectively. Extremely insecure; this is covered up by arrogance. Potential suicide risk.
Personality: Arrogant and dismissive of others. Poor sense of self-preservation and too much curiosity for his own good. Holds grudges against people and, irrationally, against inanimate objects.
Biography: This MUST be at least two paragraphs

Tobias Salk is a former medical examiner from Las Vegas. Although he excelled in classes and exams during medical school, he (and everyone around him) quickly realized that he had the bedside manner of a vulture. The more he worked with patients, the less patience he had for their sniveling. As a result, he went into a line of work where his talents would be put to use, but where he and the living would not have to suffer each others' company.

When the Zone came into existence, Salk was displaced from his home and his place of employment. He witnessed some anomalies firsthand, during those first hectic days during which the government struggled to reassert control and then finally contain the phenomenon. Among the things he witnessed were materials and organisms that produced...effects...in normal people. Salk realized the potential for profit in finding and selling such materials. He made a series of furtive excursions into the Zone, gathering all sorts of things - strange liquids that puddled on floors (or puddled on ceilings), secretions from mutants, goo from half-rotten Shrooms killed by other scavvers or by freak anomalies. He tested them on whatever animals he could get his hands on; he mixed and matched them with one another and with real medicines looted from abandoned hospitals in the Zone. To hear him tell it, he has a remedy for any ailment you can name, or an intoxicant for any taste, although some of them are not without their side effects.

At first, he tried selling the goods himself. Without connections or a reputation, or any charm whatsoever, he failed. A chance meeting with another scavver in the Zone hooked him up with the elaborate network of fencers and black-marketeers that had sprung up as middle-men to support and profit from the work of the scavvers. Salk developed something of a reputation for the nostrums he concocted. Some people swear by "Salk's tonics." Other people consider him a snake-oil salesman or worse. Many people think that there is no "Salk" and that black marketeers just slap an invented name onto bottles of antifreeze and mutant pus to create the illusion of legitimacy. Most people who deal in Zone goods, however, have at least heard the name.

Roleplay Experience: A bit, here and there. Here's a recent RP thread I participated in.

There is always room for rape.

Was thinking of subjecting my char to it, but perhaps it might happen in the IC, in a neutral taste of course.

Meanwhile, I'm a masochist, so it might be less neutral and more "biased" in that regard. :p
Also, as seen in either a certain Fate RP, or that Vampire: The Masquerade one, I've basically written rape worms into a character of mine twice. Of course, I've added a bit of variation from the canon ones in Fate, since those are literally just penises with fanged mouths. Because Japan.

On a related note, I keep thinking of this in relation to the shroom people.

I couldn't help but think that to be somewhat kinky. :p

Why you lately make trap characters, Vid?

Because I can. I find them a lot more interesting than generic male characters, and even before, my characters were generally at least bishounen level androgynous. Plus traps are always good in my books. :p

How to be legitimately recognised in NS? Be a proper Roleplayer.
In a community where knowledge should be used to uplift the teachable and be used as an interest instead of a necessity, the arrogant abuse of knowledge is interesting to watch.

If it comes down to the more descriptive stuff, you could turn to euphemisms.
I've seen some people manage to get away with writing sex scenes in such a manner without getting banned, anyway.

How's the idea of a somewhat over-confident poker pro, that in 2013 was on his way to the World Series when everything broke down? I was thinking the temperament suits the backstory quite well, and the bio up to the Zone's creation is done. Perhaps I'll change him a bit, but I'll see how it goes :)

And here we go. Any issues, I'd be happy to change (as always), as I haven't really needed to be concerned about the super-specifics of equipment :P
Here We Go Again

Name: Silvas Thompson (and no, the Vagrant’s last name is not Thompson.)
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Occupation: Traveler
Appearance:
Image

Much of the time Silvas has spent in the Zone has been without a good razor, giving quite a scruffy look. In his trips around Las Vegas, he often wears a tattered suit, the one he brought to play (bio), or a general shirt and shorts when it gets hot elsewhere. (As much as I’d like to make him edgy with a cloak, realism.)
Equipment+Obligatory Description:
Butterfly Knife (for showing off)
Hekler & Koch MP5 (not for showing off)
Three 30x 9mm clips for the above. (Will change if required.)
Thermos (idk, for coffee maybe.)
Canteen (idk, for water maybe)
Numerous packaged food bars (chocolate, granola, etc.)
Trail mix (the healthy stuff, not the ones with M&Ms.)
Deck of Cards
Skills:
Storytelling.
Poker. (Who knows. Maybe interdimensional beings like playing cards.)
Devious & quick-thinking.
Fast reactions.
Quite intelligent.
Weaknesses:
Mood swings occur at times.
Nostalgic
Over-confident.
Likes company.

Personality: Outspoken and boastful, Silvas chats up anyone that's not trying to kill him (and some who are), embellishing his achievements, finds and possessions in a very non-serious manner, coming across as arrogant but quite cheery. Irritating for some and warming for others, Silvas is generally nice to be around but its easy to get sick of him if you don't like him at first.

Biography: Silvas began his life in a struggling California family who barely survived day to day. Their living place shifted often, as did their schools, all of them public. Both his parents, and older brother Jimothy (haha) were extremely busy with lower-wage jobs, leaving him to his own devices. As he grew up into his teenage years, he fell into illegal gambling on the street, which he discovered he had a knack for it, especially poker. Amazing the people who played with him, he returned home one day with his winnings to find the police waiting for him, along with his parents. He received a slap on the wrist for it, lost what he had and gained a dislike for authority.

When he became old enough to visit the casinos, he played many hands, read many books, and educated himself on the legal side of poker. To the dismay of his parents, he embraced the profession full-time after winning a small tournament, and worked his way up. Discovering the wonder of online poker in 2004, he rocketed up his bankroll and made himself known both in the physical and Internet realms of poker.
After the collapse of American online poker in 2010-11, Silvas was extended sponsorships and much more, hoping to stop him from disappearing from the scene of the game. After an expanding run of wins in bigger and bigger competitions, he received an invitation to the World Series in 2013, all expenses paid, and made his way over to Nevada. Touring the fringe casinos and gambling houses around the state, he made it into a frantic, heated practise game played at high stakes a sizeable distance away from the Epicentre while the world fell apart outside, and the players, flustered and mostly broke, emerged into a changed world from the time distortion. In one of the more extravagant events, they had ended two and a half years past the beginning of their first hand.

Their World Series dreams smashed, the players raided the casino with the assistance of bewildered security, and parted ways, each with a large collection of the casino’s “holed” chips and cards, hoping to one day resume their match and actually hold a World Series in Las Vegas. Silvas has at this point abandoned the prospect of leaving the Zone after noticing the quarantine, and lives in the Las Vegas area, although often takes trips along the I-15 to keep his sanity.
Roleplay Experience: I am the Edge, the One Who Cuts, I am That Guy.

I know Grestin wanted us to start at Mequite but you've done a good enough job that I think an exception could be made. Weird, Kimberly has been living in a time distortion near Moaba (a year to her has been 3 elsewhere), and, rather fittingly, she has some playing cards with her. ACCEPTED unless Grestin states otherwise.

I could always have him be around the eastern area of the Zone, on one of his 'sanity trips'.

Although I do want that sad, sad picture of a man playing Solitaire for hours on end. :P

He can speak Japanese, English, German, Russian, Mandarin, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (these last 3 are closely related and apparently relatively mutually intelligible, according to an Italian I know). Stealth/subterfuge, deceit. Parkour/freerunning. Cooking. Stealing, both physical and technological (hacking).
Weaknesses: Physically weak, not exactly that durable, some issues of the mental variety. Overly sensitive to sound (including potential sound-based attacks by something in the zone).
Personality: Quiet and generally seeming apathetic, it can be difficult to tell whether Sakae is simply good at hiding his emotions, or doesn't care, though he often seems to be smiling faintly, commonly for no obvious reason, and does so to the extent that even he forgets whether or not his smile is genuine. He has something of an inferiority complex, as well as a darkly twisted, nihilistic philosophical view of things, being somewhat aware of the common concept of morality, but regarding it as foolish, flawed and inapplicable to the real world. He lacks much in the way of social skills, and in some ways is naïve, of almost childlike ignorance in regards to society and people, yet at the same time pessimistic and jaded, ruthless to those that get in his way, yet also expecting others to grind him into the dirt, or attempt to do so. He possesses a fractured and often contradictory psyche that can take bits and pieces of the way he once was in the past, and merge it unpredictably with the present, whilst also altering memories, or even erasing them, at particular points.

Accordingly, along with his experiences, he also developed masochistic tendencies, though whether he may have already had elements of that to begin with, is uncertain.
Whilst often cold, despite simultaneously seeming mildly amused or pleased, he can at rare times be remarkably fearful and eager to obey others, should he be cornered or overpowered. Sakae is usually emotionally distant, refusing to allow anyone to become too close to him, though he may not always succeed, and tends to come off as shy rather than harsh, a demeanour supported by a lack of experience in anything approaching a healthy relationship. He sometimes displays fear and anxiety at the touch of others. He has a fondness for most music, as well as nature, books and sweets. May be a tad tsun/dandere, and after properly becoming attached to someone, a little yandere.
Biography:

Born to a Japanese family in São Paulo, with Yakuza connections and links to a group back overseas in Osaka, it was all but certain that Sakae would be dragged into the world of crime from an early age. His father involved in gambling, weapons and drugs trade, was rarely at home, whilst his mother, although somewhat more on the fringes of that world, nonetheless had dubious affiliations, even if she had a more reputable job.

From a fairly young age, he was perceptive, and reasonably intelligent, so it didn't take him long to figure out the sort of stuff his father was involved in. He was an avid book reader, and he sometimes took more to reading than socializing. he displayed a fair amount of intelligence, and an element of rebelliousness. At school, Sakae was often remarked upon for his feminine appearance, and whilst there was an element of teasing or discrimination at times, rumours of Yakuza connections often intimidated those who might act further. Not being particularly socially adept, he tended to avoid others, and so a sort of self-perpetuating social barrier formed between him and those who may have otherwise been considered classmates and potential friends.

He sometimes made futile attempts to seem a bit more masculine, though they weren't always successful. Sakae ended up somewhere in the middle, at times remarkably girlish, polite, and quiet, with a fondness for cute things, animals, nature, sweets, anime, manga, games and books, whilst at times also attempting, sometimes halfheartedly, to play the delinquent, and came to further involvement in the "underworld" his father already lived in. Beginning to learn Karate of the Shukokai variation after his father recommended that he learn to defend himself, Sakae utilised his apparently fragile appearance well, and whilst never exactly what one would call tough or strong, he had considerable agility, flexibility and fast reflexes, even when he was quite young.

When he was around eight or nine, his father got on the wrong side of some people, ended up dead, and he, in due turn, found himself kidnapped and sold into slavery, likely as a "bonus" or something of that sort, a freebie, as well as a way of further punishing his now dead father.

Considering his particularly feminine appearance, it wasn't too surprising that there were very soon interested parties, though he was still quite young at the time. Thus began an involuntary entry into the sex industry, though he was usually not paid, and often drugged during the process. At some point he fell into the hands of someone who decided to keep him a bit more permanently, a Colombian drug lord named Luciano Esteban Gutiérrez, with links to Mexico and southern parts of the USA.

It could have been worse, Sakae told himself. At least he had food and shelter. Sometimes clothes, too, though they were usually those worn by women. It sometimes hurt, and Sakae sometimes suffered abuse that easily rivalled that of his previous "patrons", but at least he didn't die. Surely ceasing to exist was worse. Luciano feared he would one day cease to look like a girl, so Sakae was often injected with estrogen, which had a lasting effect on both mind and body. Along the way, he was sometimes told to run errands, eventually learning how to poison and murder the enemies of whomever owned him, often lowering their guard through his apparent femininity in the process.

Thus it was, that from a mere tool, he became a weapon. He would work his way into their trust, or at least a situation in which he could kill them and escape. Sakae came to target numerous individuals, officials, reporters, judges and the like, who had holier than thou attitudes, and a desire to stamp out the likes of the crime and terrorist networks in which his master was involved. If he didn't perform adequately enough, or even failed, then he would be locked up, imprisoned and tortured.

In spite of all these ordeals, it would only be after all that that things would get worse. The syndicate his owner was part of, had already established tentative links further north with certain parts of Las Vegas from their already established dealings in the southern USA, and was avariciously viewing the potential profit to be had from the city. There were some mafia groups willing to do business, but certain individuals, wary of a newcomer organisation making their presence felt, were doing their best to ensure that this particular endeavour failed. Accordingly, Sakae was sent to spy on them, and in due time, neutralise at least some of them. At some point during the exchange, the whole affair goes wrong, an encounter with an FBI agent in the east of the city raises tensions, and people begin dying. The mafia group orchestrates a pre-emptive attack, believing the Gutiérrez syndicate to be planning a takeover of their "family".

The syndicate's men in the city start vanishing, and they begin catching on. The syndicate organises a gathering a little to the north west of the city, near its outskirts, in order to consolidate and plan a proper course of action in regards to that family's recent actions, and their increasingly belligerent actions towards them, and these mysterious disappearances. The gathering is ambushed, and casualties are sustained on both sides. Then the Zone makes its presence felt. Chaos erupts. Things appeared and disappeared, abominations and maddening sights turned it into a bloodbath. What exactly happened to him is not something that he recalls, though he does know that it hurt a lot.

Not that far from death, bleeding and broken, his power emerged, and after a shockwave that may have broken some windows and ruptured some eardrums, he vanished in the increasingly chaotic streets of Las Vegas, somehow dragging himself out of there despite his condition. Some of the aberrant entities that had appeared earlier began following him, and he hid in the alleyways of the city. He doesn't recall how well his hiding served him, and it wasn't long before he collapsed into unconsciousness. Days later, he woke up and found himself at the edge of the zone. That was three years ago.

In the aftermath of that debacle, was finally on his own, assumed dead, though he still retained connections to shady groups. These days, he's something of an assassin for hire, though officially a student, information broker, and musician. May also be watching out for the authorities, his former boss, or Luciano's colleges, should they begin looking for him, though he doesn't know much about them. Whilst cautious in utilising that which the Zone has bestowed upon him, rumours have been circulating in the criminal underworld for several years, and he has begun accruing a certain reputation amongst contract killers and their would be employees, especially regarding certain cases where he seems to have killed a target through unknown means. Of course, mysterious disappearances and deaths would also attract the attention of the American authorities, some of whom have been searching for a suspect for a number of cases. Similar cases were also present in parts of central and south America.

In particular, the FBI have been faced with a growing number of suspicious deaths, and a number of bodies that were found in the west coast, including an entire family in a small town, one of whom had a gunshot wound to the head, whilst the others appeared to have suffered severe internal rupturing, and bled from the eyes, ears and mouth. All the mirrors and windows in the room they had been found in, were shattered, too. The peculiar nature of this case raised a number of alarm bells, and began fuelling a number of unusual theories regarding the perpetrator. More recently, he has joined a group heading into the zone, perhaps due to something he was hired for, or because it suited his own interests.

Well that's silly, isn't it?

I've seen some people manage to get away with writing sex scenes in such a manner without getting banned, anyway.

I've read enough fanfiction to know where this is going...

I don't know.

And hopefully won't. :p

Oh, and TR. I believe the term you're looking for is Butterfly Knife, not Flip Knife.
