Beiarusia wrote:Honestly I have an aversion to military characters only because of how many show up for things like this, which is one reason why I tend to go for more unusual characters. I don't mind military characters but variety helps. Your guy drove tanks, and as such I figure he'd not be much use with a gun, but given a vehicle he's your go-to man.

As for the current cast, I know that we have a smuggler, several soldiers, and a suicidal girl.

Tanker crews and other personnel are trained on weapons, but they aren't given as much as your regular infantryman nor do they go over a lot of the tactics they do. It's basically how to handle your weapon and what to do should you ever find yourself in a hostile situation where you need to use it outside of your normal occupation.

But it is mostly because military soldier is the easiest way to be a character. You have the skill needed for survival, while civilians usually don't have much, unless they are ex-military.

But playing as civilians are more interesting.

Yes! Sure, military characters have all the skills, but it's so much more interesting when people without the fancy skills are thrown into a situation. It becomes less about a soldier doing what he was trained to do and more so about people stuck in a crappy predicament and what they will do to survive it. At the very least I think military characters should be flawed somehow so that we get more of their human-side rather than their soldier-side.

That's where it goes to "people not doing it right". A soldier knows how to shoot, and has a lot of skills. Thus, a lot of people make it look easy with what they're doing, but tend to forget that there's a person wearing that uniform and that person has their own mind. The skills are there with the training, but there's a lot that goes on that isn't touched on a lot with them. You get a cardboard cutout of someone who just knows how to use guns instead of someone who may have to worry about who exactly they're pointing their gun at. There's a lot of tact that goes into realistically playing a military character.

But it seems like you know what you're doing so no complaints. Plus, as you said, your guy knows how to shoot a gun but I doubt he's gonna become Master Chief in the span of one gunfight.

I swear, half the reason she survived Outbreak was because we all loved her and wanted to see her grow. Hell, Gres revels in causing characters to suffer, and still ended up with Sarah doing everything she could to protect her.

Best. Character. Ever. Bei. I'm excited to see the next line of Tallows!
While she had no regrets about throwing the lever to douse her husband's mistress in molten gold, Blanche did feel a pang of conscience for the innocent bystanders whose proximity had caused them to suffer gilt by association.

Not every weapon hits what you aim it at on the first try. I suppose I'll get an app up soon then.

Thanks. Kimberly, the next in line, is a lot different from Sam. While Sam was rather strong willed and strove to rise above her disability Kim is broken and is lost, existing in a sort of limbo within herself. Sam rises to the challenge but Kim would fold if left alone. Still trying to get these kind of characters down but I'm optimistic that I can weave Kimberly into a sympathetic sight.

Heh. I saw the comment about how military characters were no fun and I decided that it would be better to roleplay something new, different, and not "easy". Will definitely be interesting.

When he heard that the Zone was happened, he gathered his equipment and tried to went there but was rejected as it is dangerous. Recklessly, he bought a passage entry through a black market to the Zone, with all of his equipment. Now, he's in the Zone, hoping that he gets enough photos and then published it to the world so that they know what happened, and forcing them to give aids.

Name: SSgt. Blake Hawkins
Gender: Female
Age: 28
Occupation: US Army Tank Crewman/Wheeled-Vehicle Mechanic
Appearance: B.H.
Equipment:
-Springfield Armory 1911 TRP .45 ACP Custom
-Five 8-round magazines
-OD TAC belt
-Holster
-Two double pistol-magazine pouches
-Two canteens with belt pouches
-OKC M9 Bayonet with scabbard
-Dump pouch
-OD Shemagh
-UCP ACUs
Skills: Tanker crewman, HMMWV mechanic, small arms training
Weaknesses: Hot-blooded, loud-mouthed, and stubborn
Personality: A boisterous and rowdy woman some times, but most laid-back with her presence. Doesn't jump her gun and keeps cool under fire, but her strength leads to her being stubborn with her actions.
Biography: Blake Hawkins was a rough kid growing up in the Midwest. Her big attitude got her a lot of trouble when coupled with her big mouth. She never liked things too quiet, but that didn't mean she didn't appreciate the peace every once in a while. She was far from the average girl in her childhood. A pure tomboy with an affinity for the military. Her dream was to show that she could do war like the other boys could. She grew up a strong girl in her teenage years, even when it came to love. Many of the other students would poke fun at her, calling her a dyke or butch because of her short hair and boyish fashion sense. Never did they call out in public such things to her, as they all knew what happened to those who enticed her temper.

When she reached 21 and wasn't up for going to college, she decided to enlist in the Army. Basic was a trip, but she passed with flying colors and became a tanker. Her first active duty tour saw her doing regular patrols in an M1A2 in Baghdad. She had reached up to the second skill level of the crewman occupation, giving her know-how on loading and driving as well as tanking place as the tank's main gunner. When an IED killed two of the crew in her tank during a patrol mission, she and her commander took charge and were able to drive the tank back to base. This would happen in her first year of active duty in 2005, with her tank suffering another attack the next year. Luckily, there were no casualties and the tank was able to continue operations. After getting out of her active duty, she went for her 4 years in the reserves and opted to change over to being a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

Blake was living out her last boring years in the reserves when that fated day arrived. She was en route to the Hawthorne Army Depot on a stint with some others coming from Fort Irwin. She doesn't remember much beyond their Humvee suddenly getting tossed around like a toy car. When she awoke, she found herself in the trunk space of the vehicle as it lay overturned. No sign of anyone else greeted her. No blood, no shell casings, not even footprints or drag marks. It was as if they had just vanished. Blake had counted herself lucky to only receive a minor bumping around, but counted her blessings that her love of the military made her prepared with her nice toys that she bought in her time. With her belt and weapons on her and a shemagh around her neck, she sought out any signs of civilization she could find.

I could always re-app Sakura into a starving half-dead girl who was recovering from an accident in the Zone, and the only chance for her to survive is to interact with the PCs, possibly selling her body for services and materials to survive.

It's only how much content is approved that's stopping me from going to an extreme :P
